Chapter 3: Birthday Surprises
"NO!" a voice in Konoha's Hospital, which was the most busy place in the village, due to the shinobi who got injured due to their mission, shouted. Now, one of their latest patients was struggling as the nurses held him in place.
"Now calm down, Phantom-san," the doctor said as he neared the injured Phantom, who had bandages around his chest. The doctor was holding an injection as he walked near the restrained Phantom. "I'm just going to give you some medicine."
"Stay away from me, you psychopath!" Danny exclaimed as he struggled harder.
The doctor just sighed as the nurses strap leather belts around his arms and ankles. He was used to this thanks to one of his patients named Naruto Uzumaki. He ignored the scream of pain as he injected the young Phantom.
"Now that wasn't so bad, was it?" the doctor asked.
"Monster!" Danny shouted, though he stopped struggling. "Quack doctor! Sadist!"
The doctor just felt his eye twitch before signaling the nurses to exit. They did so, leaving Danny still strapped on the bed. They would have untie him, but he made many escape attempts for the last three days, so they just left him like this.
After saving Hinata from the Kumo nin and getting stabbed on the chest, Danny was rushed in the hospital by Jikan, where they managed to save his life. His friends and sisters were worried for him when they heard what happened.
Dani and Ino cried in relief when they saw that Danny was okay. Naruto had a big grin filled with relief, Choji was happy to see his new friend okay and Shikamaru said "troublesome," but there was a hint of relief in it. Hinata, when she saw Danny, hugged the young Phantom, crying in relief as she saw her friend alive.
Jazz…well, she was both proud and angry at Danny. Proud that her little brother protected Hinata, and angry that he would be so reckless. She was also surprised when he showed them his Shinigan. They all looked at his eyes in awe.
Jikan also visited him and gave him a sharp tap on the head with his staff for letting his guard down. He promised Danny that once he was fully healed, they will up their training. But he was also proud that Danny managed to unlock their Clan's Doujutsu at such a young age.
"Now just get plenty of rest and I'll give your medicine later," the doctor said as he exited the room.
"You'll never keep here!" Danny shouted as he started struggling harder.
The door opened a minute later and Danny smiled as his friends and sisters entered the room. The smile faltered a bit when he saw the bruise on Hinata's face.
"Hi guys!" Danny said with a huge grin as they stared at him and the leather straps. Naruto was just laughing at him since it was funny that it didn't happen to him for once.
"Shut up!" Danny shouted as Hinata and Dani undid the straps, freeing his limbs.
"Did you try to run away again?" Jazz asked as they sat down around him.
"No…maybe…yes…" Danny mumbled, looking down.
"H-h-here, D-Danny-kun," Hinata said as she showed him a bouquet of flowers. "T-these are f-from a-a-all of us."
"Thanks," Danny said with a grin.
"And this is from the Ichirakus," Naruto said as he gave Danny a bowl that was covered with a lid.
"Thanks," Danny said as he received the bowl. "I was hungry."
He removed the lid and paused when he saw that it was empty. Everyone stared at Naruto with a deadpanned expression. He gave a sheepish expression, scratching the back of his head. "Sorry…can't help it."
"H-h-here," Hinata said as she handed a plastic container filled with fruits. "I b-b-brought you s-s-some fruits."
"Thanks," Danny said with a smile as Hinata opened the container, revealing chopped apple, melon, mango and strawberries. He picked up a fork, but Hinata took it, surprising everyone, even her.
"Uh…I-I-I w-w-w-would l-like to f-f-f-feed you," Hinata stuttered, her face red.
"Are you sure?" Danny asked, feeling bashful. "I can feed myself."
"I-i-it's the l-l-least I can d-d-do," Hinata said with a small smile. "N-now s-s-say 'ahh.'"
"Aah!" Danny said as Hinata shyly fed him an apple. He happily munched the fruit.
Ino and Dani giggled at the cute scene in front of them while Shikamaru just sighed. Choji and Naruto looked confused while Jazz smiled. Hinata blushed heavily, but enjoyed doing it.
"So how have you guys been?" Danny asked once the fruit was gone.
"Nothing much," Dani replied, resting her head on the bed.
"We're just waiting for you to wake up," Naruto said. "It's boring without you."
"Yeah," Choji said as he offered Danny a chip, which he accepted. "It's no fun playing without everyone."
"Well, let's play now!" Danny said. "What can we play?"
"We can play Shogi," Shikamaru said with a yawn. "I'm pretty sure the hospital has one."
With nothing else to do, the kids started playing Shogi while Jazz just read. As the day go by, Jazz noticed something strange about the nurses and doctors. Half of them silently glared at Naruto while half of them waved at them while others just seemed neutral.
She mentally filed that info for later.
Soon it was time to go home for the day. Ino, Choji and Shikamaru were picked up by their dads as Jazz, Dani and Naruto were going home, since Naruto was asked to sleepover at the Phantom Compound. Hinata decided to stay a little longer, waiting for someone to pick her up.
They bade the two goodbye and promised Danny to visit him tomorrow. Hinata and Danny then started talking about things like how was their day.
"D-D-D-Danny-kun," Hinata said after Danny told her how he bravely fought against the sadistic doctor who forcefully gave him an injection along with his army of savage nurses.
"Yeah, Hinata-chan?" Danny asked, looking at the girl curiously.
"I-I-I w-want to t-t-thank you," Hinata said as she looked at her hands. "I-i-if it wasn't for y-y-y-you…"
Hinata started trembling in fear. Ever since the kidnapping attempt, Hinata has been having nightmares about Danny dying as she was taken away from her home.
She started when she felt Danny wrapped his arms around her, comforting her.
"I told you that it's nothing, Hinata-chan," he said softly as he let her go. "We're friends, and a Phantom never let the innocent get hurt."
Hinata smiled, grateful for the comfort. The door suddenly opened and the two turned and saw Hiashi, much to Hinata's surprise. She's never seen her father walked in a public area before.
"T-T-Tou-sama," Hinata stuttered, hiding her surprise.
"Hyuuga-sama," Danny said as he tried to stand up and bow.
"Please don't bother," Hiashi said, stopping Danny. "I'm just here to pick up my daughter…and to thank you."
Danny and Hinata's eyes widened when Hiashi kneeled down.
"Thank you for saving my daughter," Hiashi said, his head on the ground. "I and the Hyuuga Clan will forever be in debt for what you've done. I thank you as not as a clan head, but as a father."
"Um….there's no need bow, Hyuuga-sama," Danny said, a little uncomfortable that someone like Hiashi Hyuuga would bow down to him. "I did what anyone would do."
"Neverthless, you have done both the Hyuuga Clan and Konoha a great service," Hiashi said as he stood up. "As gratitude, we of the Hyuuga Clan will aid the Phantom Clan when they require aid."
"Thank you for the kind offer, Hyuuga-sama," Danny said with a grin.
"Let's go home, Hinata," Hiashi said.
"H-hai, Tou-sama," Hinata said before turning to Danny. "I'll s-s-see y-you tomorrow, D-D-Danny-kun."
"Bye, Hinata-chan!"
Danny laid his head on his pillow once the door closes, looking forward for rest. Suddenly, the door opened and a bunch of nurses rushed forward and tied him up before he could react.
"What the!?" he shouted as the nurses parted, revealing the doctor from earlier, holding an injection.
"Time for your medicine, Phantom-san," he said.
"HELP!"
Three Days Later…
The Sandaime was enjoying his small freedom from doing paperwork, by reading his copy of Icha-Icha, one his students work.
He was giggling when he got to the part where the mermaid princess Umi moaned wildly as the handsome prince Shu gave her his life energy by using his love spear to penetrate her virgin-.
"Hey there, Sarutobi-sensei," a voice in the window greeted. "I see you're enjoying my work."
The Sandaime dropped the book in shock and turned around and saw a familiar face that had red markings and a wart on his nose, long, spikey white hair tied to a ponytail, dressed in a green short shirt kimono and matching pants; under which he wore mesh armor that showed out of the sleeves and legs of his outfit. His outfit was completed with hand guards, a simple black belt, traditional Japanese wooden sandals, a red haori with two simple yellow circles on each side, and a scroll on his back.
This was Jiraiya, known as the Toad Sage of Konoha and one of the Three Sannins.
"Jiraiya," the Sandaime said, coughing to hide his surprise. "I wasn't expecting to see you."
"Well, I've been gone for too long, so I decided to visit," Jiraiya said as he hopped in the room through the window, looking around the room with both a nostalgic and sad expression.
He remembered the last time he was here; the air heavy with grief as Sarutobi held little Naruto with a sad expression. He himself was present there, having arrive too late to help his student. Not only did he Minato died, but so did Kushina, and Naruko, Naruto's twin sister, was lost.
Jiraiya tried to adopt Naruto, but the council, the Civilian side, said no, due to his spy network being too important. They even thwarted the Shinobi Head Clans that tried to adopt him, saying that it would be unfair.
Jiraiya, in his grief, left the village once Naruto was safely in an orphanage. He hasn't return to the village since then, giving info to Sarutobi through his toads. A week ago, Jiraiya decided that he had grieved enough and went back to Konoha to face his responsibilities.
So here he was, back in the room where his sensei and student used to occupy. It hasn't changed much since he was last here.
"So how's the gaki doing?" Jiraiya asked as he sat down in front of the desk.
"Naruto's doing well," the Sandaime replied. "He managed to make some new friends not a while ago."
"He just made friends recently?" Jiraiya asked, narrowing his eyes when he saw Sarutobi flinched a little, which would go unnoticed by a civilian.
He sighed as he rubbed his temples with his hands, looking very old.
"Naruto…didn't have a great start," he said. "A lot of the villagers see him as the Kyuubi. I made a law that that forbids the older generation of talking about it, but it did little good as they found a loophole: they told their children to avoid Naruto."
"…I shouldn't have left him," Jiraiya said both in anger and sadness. Angry at both himself and the Civilian Council and sad for Naruto. "I should have brought him with me."
"If you had, he would have been in more danger than he was within the village," the Sandaime said.
"But I still left him," Jiraiya said as he stood up. "I was his godfather, but I left him because of my grief."
"We were all hurt by what happened, Jiraiya," Sarutobi said. "But we can now focus on the future than in the past."
Jiraiya nodded, feeling a bit better. He stared out the window and looked at the Hokages' Monument.
"So, who are these friends of his?" Jiraiya asked, turning back to his sensei.
"The last Phantoms."
Jiraiya's eyes widened when he heard that. He heard a rumor of the Phantom Clan still alive, but he didn't knew they were back in Konoha.
"So the Phantom Clan still lives," Jiraiya said. "What are they like?"
"The only boy in the family…reminds me of Dan," Sarutobi said, as he met the Phantoms a few times before. Danny looked like Dan, and he had the same aura as him. "He will be a strong shinobi. As for Naruto, he is happy to finally have friends."
Jiraiya nodded, feeling happy for Naruto.
"So, any word from Tsunade?" Sarutobi asked.
"No," Jiraiya said, shaking his head. "I haven't seen her since that day. She took Kushina's death pretty hard."
"So, will you finally introduce yourself to your godson?" Sarutobi asked. "His birthday is tomorrow."
"Maybe I will," Jiraiya said as he walked towards the window. "Now if you'll excuse me, it's time for some 'research.'"
Sarutobi sighed at his student's perverted antics, but smiled at having him back in the village. He then returned to his book and started giggling.
Meanwhile, Jiraiya was walking through town, ignoring the stares and whispers. He did greeted the shinobi who greeted at him. He stopped in front of a store and saw a toad wallet displayed on a window. He smiled before entering the store.
In the park, Danny, who was finally allowed to leave the hospital, was sitting on the grass with his friends, just sitting around and relaxing since he was still recovering from his injury. The boys were cloud watching while the girls were picking at flowers.
"This is relaxing," Danny said as he watched the clouds float by.
"Yes it is," Shikamaru said as he enjoyed cloud watching.
"I'm bored," Naruto commented while Choji was snacking on some chips.
"You're always bored," Danny said as he stretched. "So, tomorrow's your birthday. What are we going to do tomorrow?"
"I…I don't know," Naruto said, looking to the side. "I never had a birthday before…"
"Really?" Danny asked, looking at his friend. "Why?"
"Because of…the festival," Naruto replied quickly. "Because of the Kyuubi Festival, I couldn't celebrate my birthday."
Danny and Choji nodded a bit at his explanation, but Shikamaru narrowed his eyes a bit. Being a Nara, Shikamaru is much smarter than any kids his age, so he noticed how Naruto avoided looking at them when he told him about the reason why he never had a birthday.
His birthday is on the same day as the Kyuubi's death? He thought to himself. That's too troublesome to be a coincidence.
"We're back!" the girls shouted, snapping Shikamaru out his thoughts. The boys sat straight and saw Dani, Hinata and Ino carrying crowns made of flowers for each of them. They already have one on their heads. "Here!"
They handed them the crowns, which they took. Danny, Naruto and Choji wore theirs while Shikamaru refused, until a slap on the head by Ino made him wear his.
Everyone laughed at Shikamaru as he rubbed the lump on his head. Naruto's mood got better and the kids just hang out. Maybe tomorrow wouldn't be so bad.
The Next Day…
"Is everything ready?" Jazz asked to the guests for Naruto's surprise party that were gathered in the Phantom Compound. The guests were Hinata, Neji, Ino, Choji, Shikamaru and their parents, along with the Sandaime Hokage, the Ichirakus and Jiraiya, which surprised them except the Hokage.
The surprise party was the twin's idea; they asked Jikan if they could throw the party at the compound, which he did, much to the twin's delight. They went to fetch Naruto at his apartment.
They all replied yes. The older Ino-Shika-Cho trio were chatting with Hiashi and Hizashi about old times as they finished putting the banners and balloons, Jikan was conversing to the Sandaime and Jiraiya, and Jazz was talking to Hitomi and the Ichirakus. The kids were just playing with Shiori, waiting for the rest of their friends. Well, they made Neji played with them since he was stubborn.
"It was nice of the twins to plan this party," Hitomi said as they set the table.
"He's their first friend in this village," Jazz said with a smile. "Besides, he's a great kid."
"Yes he is," Teuchi said with a smile as he looked at the kids. "It's nice to see him with such good kids."
Meanwhile, outside the compound, Danny, Dani and Naruto were rushing back towards the building. The twins found Naruto in the park, hiding in the bushes. They asked him why he was hiding there, and he told him that some bullies were chasing him, but he managed to slip pass them.
They told him that there was an emergency at their home and they needed his help. Naruto didn't ask what the problem was and started following his friends towards the Phantom Compound.
"Hurry, Naruto!" Danny shouted as he gestured Naruto to run faster.
"I'm almost there!" Naruto shouted as he ran through the entrance and towards the house, not seeing the grins the twins have.
Naruto ran through the wooden floors and stopped in front of the wooden sliding doors. He opened the doors and…
"SURPRISE!"
Naruto jumped up as he saw his friends, Jazz, the Ichirakus, the old man Hokage and some people he never met before.
"W-w-what?" Naruto stammered, looking at the people in front of him, as well as the room, which was decorated.
Danny and Dani appeared behind him. Danny slapped his back as Dani hugged him.
"Happy birthday, Naruto!" they said in unison.
"B-b-but what about the emergency?" Naruto asked, looking at his friends.
"It is an emergency," Dani said with a grin as she pulled him in. "We can't have a party without the guest of honor!"
"So what we gonna do first?" Danny asked a he slung his arm around Naruto's shoulder. "We got food, we got games, and we got presents."
Naruto slowly grinned, feeling happy to celebrate his birthday for the first time.
"Games!"
Later…
"Thanks guys," Naruto said as he was holding a bag filled with presents; he got a book about seals from Jazz and Jikan, who told him about Uzumakis being high-class seal masters, some snacks from Choji, flower seeds from Ino, a book on how to play shogi from Shikamaru, a book on chakra from the Hokage, a fox plushy from Ayame, a sleeping cap that looked like a dog from Hinata, a toad wallet from the strange man with white hair, and his favorite, a pair of green goggles from the twins. He was currently wearing the goggles. "This was the best day of my life!"
The twins and Jazz all smiled. It was late in the afternoon, the sky a brilliant shade of orange. They were currently sitting on the compound's backyard, the others already leaving for the day.
After playing, everyone ate the food; sushi, barbeque, dango, ramen (which was mostly eaten by Naruto), and a big cake. He never ate so many food before besides ramen.
The biggest surprise was knowing that he had a godfather, who did a weird dance when he introduced himself. He cried when he realized he was not alone as he hugged Jiraiya, who awkwardly patted the crying boy. He then explained why he couldn't take care of him and was sorry for not being there.
Naruto forgave him, happy that he had someone close to a family.
As Naruto was smiling, Danny was rubbing his chest.
It was bothering him this morning on how painful his chest felt. He first shrugged it off as nothing, but it started affecting him after the party.
"Are you alright, Danny-kun?" Jazz asked as she noticed her little brother rubbing his chest, looking like he was in pain.
"I'm…fine, nee-chan," Danny said, lookin at Jazz with a grin. "Just…a little…hack!"
They all started when Danny started hacking and coughing uncontrollably. Without warning, he started coughing blood, alarming his sisters and friend.
"DANNY!" they shouted in panic as he fell to the ground, his body convulsing.
"W-w-what's happening to him!?" Naruto exclaimed, watching his friend with horror.
"His injury! It's acting up!" Jazz shouted. They heard rapid footsteps and Jikan and Jiraiya rushed towards them.
"What's wrong?" Jiraiya asked before he saw Danny on the ground. He picked up the young Phantom and was about to sunshin to the hospital before Jikan stopped him, saying it might make Danny's condition worse
"I'll get him there, don't worry!" Jiraiya said as he started running towards the hospital, carrying the unconscious boy, Jikan right behind him. Jazz stayed to comfort the kids, who were crying.
The two shinobi rushed through the street, trying not to jostle Danny. They ran pass the civilians who were preparing for the festival. Jiraiya turned to a corner and bumped into someone. He somehow managed to hold on to Danny.
"Hey! Watch where you're-Jiraiya?" a voice said.
Jiraiya looked up and saw a familiar face. A beautiful woman with long blond hair tied to two ponytails, amber-colored eyes, a diamond mark on her forehead and a very big pair of breasts under a gray kimono. She was also wearing a green coat that had the kanji for gamble on the back and gray pants.
"Tsunade-hime," Jiraiya said, feeling incredibly happy to see his old teammate.
Behind her were three girls, one was the same age as Jazz that had black, shoulder length hair, black eyes and was wearing a black kimono while holding a piglet that was wearing a red vest. The second one was a girl that was the same age as Danny with black hair that had a ponytail on top, purple eyes and wearing a black dress. And the last one was a girl that looked like Naruto; blue eyes, whisker marks on her cheeks and red hair tied to ponytails.
"What's wrong?" Tsunade asked as she noticed the boy Jiraiya was carrying and immediately noticed the blood.
"Tsunade Senju?" Jikan said, as he helped Jiraiya up, looking at the woman. "Konoha's Strongest Kunoichi and medic-nin. It is fortunate we ran into to you."
"We need to heal this kid," Jiraiya said as Tsunade motioned him to set Danny on the ground. She began to rip off his shirt and the girls started checking for any injuries.
"It looks like his chest suffered injuries," the girl with purple eyes said as she examined his chest. "His aorta seems to be damaged by wound not too long ago."
Tsunade nodded at her student before she looked at Danny and placed her hands on his chest. Her hands released a green glow as she healed Danny's injury.
Jiraiya watched with shock. He knew about Tsunade's fear for blood, due to Dan Kato, her lover, dying when she tried to save him. Now here she was, touching the boy's blood covered chest and not batting an eye.
Slowly, Danny started regaining color back on his face as he felt the pain go away. He slowly opened his eyes and saw that he was on the ground, surrounded by Jikan, Jiraiya and four females he never met before.
"What happened?" he asked as he rubbed his head.
"Glad to see you better, Danny," Jikan said, hiding the relief in his voice.
"You scared us there, kid," Jiraiya said with a grin before looking at Tsunade. "Thanks, hime…so, what brings you here?"
"Can't I go home in my home village?" Tsunade asked as she wiped the blood of her hands. "And besides, Naruko-chan wanted to see Konoha."
Jiraiya's eyes widened when he heard the name and went to look at the red-haired girl.
"N-N-Naruko…" he stammered in shock.
"Hai," the girl said with a smile, a smile that reminds him of Kushina.
"Why was she with you, Tsunade?" Jiraiya asked, looking at his teammate, who had a confused expression on her face.
"Didn't Sarutobi-sensei told you?" she asked, confused at his reaction. "When Minato, Kushina and Naruto died, I took Naruko with me."
"Naruto?" Danny asked, getting their attention. "But he's not dead."
Tsunade's eyes widened when she heard that. So did Naruko, who was told that her twin died.
"W-what?" they asked as the other two girls stared with confusion.
"Naruto's alive, Tsunade-hime. He's been alive this whole time" Jiraiya asked, looking suspicious. "Who told you he was dead?"
"One of sensei's ANBU told me," Tsunade replied, looking confused and shocked.
She was told that her godson died, but he was actually alive this whole time. Naruko was also shocked to find her twin, the one that was said to be dead, was actually alive.
Jikan was suspicious. Someone was lying to them, and he was sure it wasn't Sarutobi.
And cut! Weren't expecting that, weren't you? Naruto isn't alone! He has a twin sister, who was told to be missing! And she was told that he was dead! What is going on? Anyway, since there's a new girl in the story, I decided to add another new girl, Satsuki Uchiha, Sasuke's likable and nicer twin sister, who will be in Naruto's harem! And now, as promised, info on the Phantom Clan's Ekuton.
During the age of Rikudo Sennin, one man ate a mysterious fruit that gave him incredible powers over the supernatural. He could see the dead and converse with them and could see things no normal man could.
This ability made him the first person to meet the Shinigami without dying and formed a pact with the death god. The Shinigami gave the man and his descendants the element unlike other elements, his blood; ecto. With it, the man was able to mimic different elements with the right hand sign, giving him an almost unlimited arsenal of techniques called Ekuton. In exchange, the Shinigami wants him and his descendants to punish the wicked, protect the weak and sooth the souls of the dead.
For generations, new, unnatural abilities were discovered by those who were descendant of the man who met Death and thus the legend of the Phantom Clan began.
Well, that's where Ekuton came from, it's as old as the sage. Next chapter, family reunion and the truth! See you later!
