Castle spun around once in the room, confused. Beckett knelt down by the bed that Trender was found dead on.
"It doesn't look like anyone was killed here," Rick said, pointing at the bed.
Kate looked up at Castle, "Rick, how many of these murders have you helped me with?" Castle opened his mouth, about to answer, but Beckett cut him off. "Haven't you learned that not everything is as it seems?"
"Wow, Beckett," Castle set his hand on his heart. "That was very deep and poetic. You could almost say that it pertains to our relationship."
"No, I wouldn't say that."
"Oh, Beckett, stop playing ignorant. We both know you're attracted to me," Castle joked.
"Shut up, Rick," she snapped with a faint smile on her face. Rick returned the smile.
The way she says my name is so sexy, he thought to himself. Just as he knelt down next to Kate, her phone rang. They both sprang up, bumping shoulders.
"Sorry, Castle," Beckett mouthed to him. She turned away from him, confidently saying "Beckett" into the phone.
"Kate! We've got news from Laney," Esposito said. Beckett straightened up.
"Great! What do we know?" she asked. Castle tried to lean in close to Kate in an attempt to hear what the two detectives were saying on the other side, but Beckett simply put her hand up and stopped Rick from getting any closer. He moved too swiftly though, and her hand ended up sitting lightly on his chest. Neither of them moved. Castle had to hide a smile.
"Amanda Trender was poisoned," Ryan said a little dramatically. Kate gave a small smile and removed her hand from Castle's chest, shoving it in her jacket pocket.
"No, but get this," Espo started, "she was poisoned with common household bleach."
"What are they saying?" Castle demanded. He wiggled his finger at the phone, "Speaker! Put it on speaker!"
Beckett held up a hand, telling Castle to hush. "Household bleach?" she asked.
Castle was confused. As he raised his eyebrows, he mouthed "Suicide?" to Beckett. Again, she waved her hand to shush him.
"Yeah, so we don't know…"
"If it was murder or not," Beckett finished with an angry sigh.
"I was right? It could be suicide!" Castle said excitedly as Beckett hung up, promising to contact Espo if she got any more information.
"What happened to the daughter being a murderer, Castle?" Beckett asked. She flipped her hair out of her face, only distracting Castle more.
Castle's mouth opened and closed, reminding Beckett of a fish, "Well, I'm open to other brilliant ideas on my part."
"It wouldn't make sense though," Kate said. "She had so much money, no husband to have an affair with. Why suicide?" She glanced up at Castle, determined. "It was murder. It had to be. There's no other option."
She began to walk out of the building. As she went she muttered thanks to the police there. Castle stood contemplating before realizing Kate had left. He rushed after her. "So, the daughter slipped the bleach into a drink. Mom drinks it. Obvious," he stated.
"See, here's the funny thing, Castle," Kate stopped once they were outside and faced Castle. "You blurt out actual theories, but you make them seem so far-fetched by using your writer voice. And now I can't believe anything you say."
"Writer voice?" Castle sputtered out.
"Yes, your writer voice," Kate nodded, not understanding Castle's confusion.
"Is my writer voice… appealing?" he said, raising his eyebrows.
Beckett rolled her eyes, and she led the way away from the building. Castle pondered that for a moment as he walked. A writer voice. He could work with it.
"I could use that," he decided, trying to catch up with Beckett.
Back at the precinct, Esposito and Ryan were pacing. They were as stumped as Castle and Beckett.
"We need more suspects. All we have so far is Trender's daughter and herself!" Esposito complained.
"Are you sure there isn't a boyfriend or a girlfriend or a boss or someone that would have hard feelings for Amanda? I mean she did have a lot of money. Maybe she got threats?" Ryan offered, trying to calm Espo down.
At that moment, Castle and Beckett entered the precinct. They seemed to be laughing and having a good time, something Ryan couldn't understand. There was a really confusing murder, or suicide, on their hands at the moment.
"Any ideas, Kate?" Ryan asked once she was in earshot. Castle put his hand out, stopping Beckett from speaking, and he stepped forward.
"The daughter slipped the bleach into her mother's drink, killing her," he stated, looking for approval from Esposito and Ryan. They glanced at each other before answering.
"You see, that's actually a nice theory," Ryan started.
"But you used your writer voice, bro. And you made it seem like the plotline of one of your novels," Espo finished. Castle glanced back at Beckett, who smirked in reply.
"But, guys, come on! Think about it! It's the only logical answer!" Castle exclaimed. Ryan and Esposito glanced at Beckett for direction. She bit her lip and looked at the ground, trying to think of what to do next. Finally, she looked up at them.
"We need to talk to the daughter," she said.
"But how?" Ryan asked. "She said she doesn't want any detectives…"
"Detective Beckett!" Gates said, walking up to Beckett.
"Yes, sir?" she asked.
"I've got a piece of information on the daughter. Esposito sent word to the hospital that we were looking to interview her as a witness, and we got this in reply," she said, handing a paper to Kate. Kate's eyes scanned the paper, and a smile appeared on her face.
"Thank you, sir."
As Gates walked away, Ryan asked, "Well? What about the daughter?"
"Oh, we won't be sending an NYPD officer in," she grinned, looking at Castle.
"Oh? Oh, me! You're all depending on me!" he cried, making a big show. Kevin and Espo looked at each other, laughing at their buddy.
"Yes, Castle," Kate rolled her eyes, "we're all depending on you."
"Oh, Kate, I'm truly happy this day has come. And when I prove my theory correct, you have to admit that you're attracted to me."
"Shut up, Rick."
