A/N: So here, lovely readers, is chapter four. Thank you all for reading, and please review. Now, on to the play date.
~Elizabeth's POV~
After Noah leaves, I sigh and rub my face. It is going to be an interesting night. I walk down the hall to the open door through which I can see Sarah playing. She looks so cute with both dolls and cars out. I knock lightly before walking in, she looks up and grins.
"Hi hi! You're ready to play? Do you like cars or dolls better?" She's rapid firing again and I put a hand up to stop her before she can think of anything else.
"Yes Sar-bear I'm ready to play. I like cars better, but I'm really good at doing hair and dress up so we can plays dolls if you want." I smile and kneel by her. She grins and laughs; her laugh is carefree and loud making it all the cuter. She seems to be vibrating with how quickly she's bouncing now.
"Can you do my hair? Momma used to do it before she worked so much and No-No only does it sometimes when he checks my hair for school. Can you do it for me? With the two braids down the sides of my head?" She is looking up at me with big brown eyes, fluttering her lashes, and bouncing, just slightly less now. I smile and nod.
"Sure Sar-bear, I'll do your hair with the braids. You'll have to sit still though, it's been a while since I braided hair. Okay?" She nods happily and jumps up. She grabs a hair brush and a bag of what looks like ribbons or hair bows before dropping them on the bed; next she tugs me by my hand to her bed and sets me down then plops in front of me happily.
"M'kay Liz-liz, I will sit still. Thank you." I pet her head gently laughing.
"No problem Doll, no problem at all." I start brushing her hair out as she chatters on about school, her friends, and the times when Noah used to do her hair every morning when Mrs. Puckerman first started the longer shifts. I part her hair as she starts talking about songs that she likes and that used be hair brushing songs. I pause after separating her hair and pull out my phone. I go to Youtube and search one of the songs she mentioned. She squeals as 'Hair' by The Cowsills starts playing.
"You're playing the song! You're playing Hair; just like Momma and Big Brother used to. You're the bestest Liz-liz!" I chuckle as she squeals this and settles. I tie up one side of her hair as she starts singing; I hum along to the music as I braid the left side of her head. The song ends before I can even start the right side of her hair so I type in a different song; she giggles as it starts.
"I don't have that long of hair though Liz-liz! Rapunzel had really, really long hair." I laugh.
"Your hair might not be that long Sarah but it is very pretty so I don't think Rapunzel will mind us using her song." With that said I go about braiding the right side of her hair. I finish tying blue ribbons, to match the shirt she's wearing, onto the ends just as the song ends.
"All done princess, go take a look." I pat her head as she hops up and runs to the mirror. She's grinning.
"They're perfect! Better than No-no used to do when he started. I love, love, love them! Thank you Liz-liz." She hugs me around the waist and I hug her back with a small smile; before I can properly reply she's dragging me back to her bed and sitting me down in front of it. She sits behind me and giggles.
"I'm gonna brush your hair now Liz-liz, then it will be all soft and down for No-no so he can ask you to be his girlfriend and then you can come over all the time." With that she starts brushing my hair out. I giggle, although I'll deny it, and sit still as she removes my hair bow letting my shoulder length hair free. As she brushes my hair I scroll through Youtube looking for another song to play before settling on 'Summer Love' by One Direction after seeing the Liam Payne doll she left out. Her squeal is nearly deafening when she realizes whats playing but she continues brushing my hair till it floats perfectly around my face.
With a grin she hops off the bed and announces that I'm done and now have to go help Noah cook. I check my hair in the mirror quite surprised with how nice it looks and nod.
"Ofcourse Sarah bear, I'll go help Noah right now okay?" She nods excitedly and basically pushes me out the door. I head downstairs quietly, not used to the Puckerman household. Before I turn into the kitchen Mrs. Puckerman walks out of the living room and puts a hand on my shoulder. In that soft spoken manner mothers have she speaks.
"Noah can wait a moment Dear, come sit with me. How're you?" As she asks this I can tell she genuinely cares and wants to know so I sit beside her on the sofa and clasp my hands together. I refuse to make eye contact as I speak.
"It's going alright Ma'am. I've had some difficulties and I have yet to find a way to tell my sister but things aren't the worst they could be. I have a roof over my head and food in the fridge, and I may be joining Noah's pool cleaning business. It just happened that Noah caught me on a bad day and the hockey team were... teasing me. Things are manageable though." As I finish the greatly edited version of my tale I smile at her. She clutches my hands between hers and studies me, and as I sit there smiling she sighs and pats my cheek.
"Such a good girl, I'm glad Noah found you. You'll come by for dinner every few nights ofcourse." And even as she says it, I know that I won't argue and will gratefully, if a bit shamefully, accept dinner. With another pat to my cheek she stands and heads down the hall saying something about hot showers and old bones. I stand and check under my eyes for wetness before going to the kitchen opening. With a laugh muffled behind my hand I pause in the doorway not ready to interrupt. In front of me is Noah Puckerman in only jeans and a soft green apron shaking his hips and singing along to a Katy Perry song, 'Firework' I'm pretty sure, while cooking what appears to be the inside of an enchilada.
