Subject Zero: falling skies. part 1

naruto sat alone in the little hiding hole in the very bottom of the engineering deck. the slow methodical drum of the mass effect core humming away in the background gave him a sense of comfort as it had done in the past few months. it had been awhile since shepard had broken him and jack from the super max hell hole they had been locked in. freedom was a welcome change from being shackled in solitary stasis for god knows how long. the missions he could do without though. getting shot at on a daily basis was certainly not his definition of a good friday night… well to be fair his definition of a good friday night had been to shoot up on red sand, get into gunfights and maybe throw a hovercar through a civilians apartment but… eh, semantics. (was he using that word right? he had heard Tali use it once and he thought it would make him sound smart.)

naruto sighed. it had been hours since everyone had left with shepard to go on some important mission or something. he didn't really pay attention in the briefing. due to his crazy biotic capabilities, naruto often was overcome with crippling headaches partially due to the fact that at least two thirds of his biotic powers were actually a demonic fox lord living in his gut and his biotic implants were not designed to handle the extra strain those powers put on his body and implants. not that he was complaining mind you. the healing factor and insane natural strength that these powers came with were well worth the trade off of a couple headaches.

all that aside since he didn't go on the mission and he assumed they wouldn't be back for hours at the very least. he was stuck here. doing what he always did in these situations. cleaned, re-cleaned and modified his most treasured item on this whole damn rig. an M-77 paladin, heavy pistol. the jewel of naruto's very limited arsenal. he loved this pistol. picked it up off a dead spector who was foolish enough to come after him a few years back. salarian, so arrogant in their own damn intelligence. naruto used his biotic demon claws to rip him in half. fool never knew what hit him.

naruto was brought out of his muse as a tremor ran through the ship. he slid a fresh thermal clip back into his pistol and started up the stairs. what the hell was that? he thought as he slowly walked up the stairs. screams of shock and pain ran out from the upper deck along with a few rifle shots. but there was something else there to. no… he heard it. the ungodly scream of a husk. how can a husk be on the ship? then it dawned on him. we were being attacked… he slowly glimpsed up the stairs into the engineering deck. only to see the engineers struggling against husks as collectors put them into containers. one thing was made very apparent to naruto… the normandy had fallen. and he wasn't going down with this ship.

once again guys i would like to thank all of you who reviewed in the past. and the rest of chapter 4 will be up tomorrow i promise,
