It was safe to say, that more laughing was done that meal than actual eating, although Gwaine certainly didn't think it was a laughing matter. And that when the five girls, Merlin, Arthur and the rest of the Knights went to turn in for the night, they actually hurt from laughing so much. It was safe to say that Gwaine was still mad to the point of screaming as he didn't stay longer than Arthur thought was necessary (which was most of the evening after all) but the others all had a good laugh at his expense. As he stormed back to his bedroom he tried to rip the dress off, but he found it rather harder than he imagined, due to the ridiculous tangle of knots trapping him behind the hellish pattern on the sickly pink dress. And then there was a knock at the door.
"Go away!" He yelled, not wanting anyone else to laugh at him, but much to his annoyance the door opened and in walked the five girls.
"Sir Gwaine?" said one, Holly he thought it was "We just wanted to apologise for our prank." She genuinely seemed sorry which surprised Gwaine a great deal.
"But even you have to admit it was quite funny," Emma tried to point out, but she was roughly pushed behind the small crowd who were trying to do the decent thing and apologise.
"It was unfair to ruin your reputation like that, Sir," Said Katie in a severely apologetic tone.
"We truly are very sorry, even Emma," said Lili with a small shout of
"I'm not sorry – I had to wear a dress too you know!" from Emma, who was once again hushed up by the others.
"Please will you forgive us?" Asked Becca, glancing around at the others who nodded their agreement. Gwaine looked at the five teenage girls, and realised that their prank was actually very well executed, and maybe even a teeny bit funny – after all, Uther's face had been a picture!
"Ok, but don't think that this will go unpunished," said Gwaine with a dastardly glint to his eye "Let the prank war commence!" And with that he got a group hug from the girls, nearly knocking him over in his surprise, and they ran out of his room with yells of
"See you tomorrow!"
"Ready to be thrashed on the Netball pitch" and other such farewells.
Ah well thought Gwaine, he couldn't really complain about the prank – he was of course, the pranking master! And so he was left alone to gather his thoughts, plans on revenge and the impending netball match tomorrow. Well that would certainly be interesting! And so he was left to try to untie the pink ribbons from his hair, and chuck them in the bin. All but one, for memories sake!
And so the girls first day in Camelot drew to a close, and they felt very impressed with all the mischief they had managed to cause! They went to sleep, dreaming about Camelot and how they were now part of the Arthurian Legend. Arthur and his knights however fell asleep dreading the upcoming match – they could not lose, surely? As for Uther? Let's just say that he was regretting not sentencing those five girls to death the moment he laid eyes on them. Everything that had happened that day was their fault – and he certainly wasn't going to let them get away with winning the netball match, and therefore their freedom tomorrow in the match. Not with him umpiring anyway!
That morning, Becca woke up first, went over to Holly and nudged her.
"Holly, Holly… wake up…" Becca whispered.
"Becca, leave me alone. I'm trying to sleep" Holly mumbled in reply as she turned over in her bed away from Becca who was standing next to her bed.
"Guys wake up!" She threw a pillow at Emma's head, but amazingly Emma was awake enough to block the pillow with her hand. "We need to get up, get dressed and prepare to beat the crap out of those knights!" Katie opened her eyes and suddenly burst out laughing.
"Katie, what are you doing?" Lili asked getting rather angry. She didn't sleep very well last night and wanted a lie-in.
"Nothing… it's just…" In between saying those words, she laughed. "Becca have you seen your face?"
"That's not the nicest thing to say Katie! Becca's face is completely fine…" Just as Emma was about to finish her sentence, she began laughing hysterically too.
"What's wrong with my face?" Becca asked.
"Becca, it looks like Gwaine got you back." Holly said trying to hold back the giggles. Becca walked over to the mirror that was in their bathroom and screamed. Gwaine had sneaked into their room in the middle of night, stolen Katie's eyeliner that she had in her leather jacket pocket and drawn a beard and a moustache on her face.
"I'm going to kill him!" Becca shouted. "Katie, do you have any face wipes?"
"There are some in my bag." Katie said, still giggling.
Lili had given up trying to go back to sleep and decided instead to get up and get ready for today's match. She dangled her feet over the edge of her bed and slipped her trainers on her feet "I'll do them up later…" She thought, too tired to be bothered. But as she stood up and tried to take one step, she fell flat on her face. Of course, this set Katie, Emma and Holly off, laughing hysterically.
"Ow…" was the only thing Lili could say.
"It looks like Becca was not the only one that Gwaine pranked." Holly pointed out.
"Yes thank you for that assumption Holly" Lili snapped back – after all she was in pain.
"Come on we'd all better get dressed, big day today!"
The five friends all decided to get up and change into the clothes they were wearing when they 'magically arrived' in Camelot – after helping Lili with her shoe issues and Becca with her moustache and beard.
A bit later on, but still very early by Arthur's standards, Arthur awoke with a start. 'Please say that it all was a dream. I will not tolerate being beaten by a group of silly little girls!' he thought, and still grumbling to himself, he watched a figure detach themselves from their place by the window.
"Merlin…" bellowed Arthur. "What are you doing? What is going on? Are those pesky girls still here? Why aren't you doing your chores? Answer me!" He was getting really angry now – feeling slightly strange at the same time…what was this feeling?
"Begging your pardon, sire, but I was just watching the young ladies, um, 'warm up'. Or at least, that is what they told me they were doing. I'm trying to get some hints, you see, but it looks a bit complicated to me. Oh, and sire, if you don't mind me saying, it is best to leave a gap between questions, so that I can try to answer them," replied Merlin, looking unusually alert for that time of the morning. And he hasn't broken anything yet, thought Arthur. As soon as that thought had appeared in his head, he heard a crash from where Merlin was stood. "Sorry, sire, I will get that fixed – I promise"
"Merlin, you are the most useless servant I have ever had, do you realise that?" and without waiting for an answer, Arthur continued, "oh, and Merlin, I don't think I can join you today – I feel quite peculiar. I don't know what sorcery this is, but I have never felt this before, so that is my only conclusion, I fear."
"What are your symptoms sire? I may be able to help, seeing as I help Gaius a lot…"
"Well, I feel all shaky, like I am cold, but I am not. I also feel as if I have drunk too much ale – sort of energetic, and I feel like there is something in my stomach, stirring it up…what is this? Do you know?" Much to Arthur's despair, Merlin burst out laughing. 'What was so funny?' He thought, and demanded that Merlin explained. He told Arthur that he had diagnosed Arthur with something gravely serious – whilst sniggering quietly to himself. Arthur had a case of the nerves. Merlin couldn't believe that he had never felt anything like this before – he must really be as hard headed as he looks thought Merlin, still chuckling.
While this was going on, Uther was peeing out of his bedroom window with Gaius stood a little way behind him. They were watching the ladies play around in the courtyard. They looked so ridiculous, and it was starting to worry both Uther and Gaius quite a lot. What if this foolish game made his son and knights look like fools in front of the entire kingdom, worried Uther. Word would spread fast, and it would reach Morgana and the kings of other areas. This whole plot could turn out to be some horrid joke, just to make him and his people the laughing stock of the kingdoms. This would not do. He shared his thoughts with the trusty physician, and was concerned to see that Gaius looked nearly as worried as he felt.
"My lord…What if this game is dangerous, more dangerous than how the ladies have explained it. What if it is a plot to kill your son and his best knights?" asked Gaius cautiously. But that eased Uther's worries a little. He gave a small laugh,
"These are merely little girls, Gaius. What harm can they do to my best fighters? Do you not think of them as worthy for this challenge?"
