Once at the station they let Elizabeth walk freely inside where she is greeted by her friend and lawyer Matthew Lake. Liz and Matthew went to high school together for a while and when she moved back to town he looked her up. The two dated briefly but he couldn't handle Liz's lifestyle and eventually they broke up. He still holds onto some lingering feelings for her she can tell but all he ever manages to do is flirt and make suggestive jokes. However he is a damn good lawyer and Liz can look past the humor and his handsome face not to mention body because he always manages to get her off the hook.
"Matt, thanks for meeting me here on such short notice." Liz starts offering a handshake he reciprocated with a hug instead.
"I swear if you weren't so easy on the eyes you would be more trouble than you were worth."Matt jokes.
"You have a lawyer here already? How did you manage that? "The younger cops asks somewhat surprised.
"You may have made me ride in the back but you also let me keep my purse and cellphone. "Liz replies rolling her eyes.
The two cops escort her and her lawyer into an interrogation room at the other end of the precinct and down a long hallway. Before the cops even pull out their chairs Matt stops then, he can't help but have a slight smirk on his face as he does so.
"Officers I would like a moment alone with my client please. Oh and close the door on your way out." Matthew demands.
The short one huffs and goes to say something but the taller one puts his hand on his arm and practically drags him out of the interrogation room. Matt sits down in the chair across from Elizabeth bracing himself for what she was about to tell him. He hadn't seen her since her fiance came back into her life but she looks well. She had lightened her hair and gained maybe 10 pounds putting her at a much more healthy weight. Something she had trouble with when they were together as she worked out too much. Snapping out of his train of thought Matt turns his attention back to the legal matter at hand pulling a notepad and pen out of his brief case sliding it across the table to Liz.
" You know how it goes you write it all down tell me everything i make them take this written statement let them ask a question or two if they remain civil and then we haul ass out of this dump." Matt explains.
" Sure, its pretty simple, the little boy jason was dropped off by his mother to Devans birthday party.." Liz says as she starts to write.
" How old is he now?" Matt asks.
" He is 6 if you can believe that.. Anyway I noticed him playing during the party and remember him watching the clown do his act. I did not notice him after the clown had left either. When all the children had gone and parents had picked them up I just assumed he had gone home with one of the other children." She continues adding more detail into what she was writing but it was pretty much the same thing.
Matt takes back the notebook and reads it over quickly nodding in approval and adding his own signature on the bottom and getting her to do the same. While he reads the statement Liz roots in her purse looking for the paper she had written down the name and number for the clown on, its takes her a moment but finally she retrieves it setting it with the notebook. Liz looks Matt over discreetly, he is very much a jock, likes to work out played football in high school so he is tall tan and treats his body like a temple. He is also very intelligent but that is his downfall, he can't grasp that everything that they feared as children and heard crazy stories about is real.
He goes to the door, opens in it and lets the two impatient officers know that they are ready to talk with them. Everyone takes their seats around the square table, the cops have a file folder with them now but are eyeing the notepad that is sitting on the table. The shorter of the two has a coffee with him but seems to have forgotten it is even in his hand as the tab on the cover isnt even open yet.
" My client has written a statement for you to read over we have both signed it and also my client had a clown at her son's party that could very well be a viable suspect and she has given you his contact information." Matt states using his best authoritative tone.
The two officers look over the statement pointing and nodding and not saying a word even though it was very clear they were communicating. Then they each sign the document and take the page off the top of the notebook before sliding it back over to the two sitting across from them.
" So its seems you have a record Ms. Caine.. Petty theft, breaking and entering and kidnapping even, but your nice lawyer got you off on all charges." Officer Woodley practically sneers.
" Excuse me officer.. " Liz starts.
" Officer please refrain from antagonising my client. She is not being charged with anything so i think we are going to leave." Matt says bluntly not allowing Liz to finish her sentence or let her say anything else and ushering her out into the hall.
Liz follows Matthew all the way out into the parking lot, neither of them saying anything. They knew that the cops had nothing on Liz but her past with the law thanks to her hunting if probed would be enough for them to keep her and neither wanted that to happen. Liz just hoped that Sam and Dean would have a lead on the clown and that it wasn't too late for poor Jason. Matt leads the way to his red Mustang opening the door for Liz then going around to the other side and jumping in. Liz fishes her phone out of her purse and calls Sam's cell.
" Hello?"
" Hey Sam I am just leaving the police station with Matt where can we meet up with you two?"
" Dean grabbed a motel room at the Orchard Inn down on Cisco St. You can meet us there. Who is Matt?" Sam asks worriedly.
" I will explain when i get there. Hope you guys have something." Liz exclaims hanging up the phone.
" He doesn't know who i am does he?" Matt asks half heartedly.
" No i never really had a reason to tell him. They want us to meet them at Orchard Inn on Cisco." Liz states trying to avoid awkward conversation.
" That dive?" Matt asks starting the Mustang and backing it out of the parking spot and then pulling out onto the street.
" Not everyone can afford the Hilton.. " Liz retorts quietly.
" Liz i didn't mean anything by it.. " he says feeling bad immediately for saying it. He places his hand on hers keeping his eyes on the road. He can tell this whole thing is upsetting her.
" Never mind.. i snapped. Lets just go." She replies using the hand he placed his on to move her hair out of her face.
