Hello, Mam,
Awkward situations?! Oh, mother, where do I even start? I think Rhaspidy and Adraste have a competition going on which one of them can cause the most awkward situations because they revel in it.
Add to that the sheer number of cultural differences, especially when we're around other people- no offense to our human friends but around them in particular -and try not having awkwardness.
My point with that statement is the ladies and gents of the Horde are pretty hard to embarrass, and they're perfectly fine with discussing any number of things even we dwarves find inappropriate. Zhai once told me something that has stuck with me. The orcs, tauren, and trolls in particular are amazed at how nosy we are. The idea we simply have to get involved with the lives of complete strangers- for religious reasons, for instance -just baffles them. Especially since very few of their religions have moral codes or restrictions beyond respecting nature. To them, if it doesn't affect your skills in battle or hunting or duties, it falls firmly into the category of We Don't Care.
It's something I will forever hammer home: people who are not like you are really, really, really not like you. Thank the Light we have leaders who get that.
If I had to judge the most awkward, it would be a toss up. Between this little prat of a Gilnean noble (still human and not worgen, I might add) bragging to Jama about all the prospective matches he had with high noblewomen
Somehow he ended up stammering and red as a radish while he tried to explain to her what a virgin was.
Oh, she understood the what well enough but he couldn't make her understand why it was important. The tauren don't care, you see. They don't even have a word for it in their language. Then she asked if he was a virgin and then he had the fun of trying to explain why virginity was only really important for females, which she couldn't quite believe. I think the funniest part was Jama wasn't trying to embarrass him. She's Jama, she was just trying to work things through.
The lad didn't manage to convince her of anything but he did manage not to faint, I'll give him that.
I think my favorite, though, was when somehow Rowen's sister-in-law managed to be around all of us one time right after she'd just gotten married and was coyly bragging to Rowen about her 'wifely duties'. I don't know why. She probably thought she was being daring and bold. Liikaa, Jama, Zhai, and Hahji were all present and clearly had no idea what she was talking about. She said something about not knowing having him 'exercise his husbandly rights' toward her would be so enjoyable and Jama finally flat out asked her what those duties were and Rowen and Rhaspidy started laughing and Fanny got mightily offended and flustered. Rhaspidy finally said, "She's talking about sex." and Jama went, "Oh! That's a duty?" and Hahji looked at Fanny and said, "What, is he that bad?"
Rowen was on the floor by that point and I thought Fanny was going to explode. Then Hahji grabbed hold of Zhai and started yelling at her to 'grab him by the tusks and do her duty' which floored the rest of us and Fanny almost chipped the floor stomping out.
Feel free to share this with the rest of the Explorer's League, by the way. Or bring it up next time the Ironforge half of the family is yelling at your half, that'll probably distract them.
Love you, Mam. Give my love to Da and the redheads and I'll see you next time I pass through.
Love,
Mhere
