A few weeks have passed now and my birthday is coming up. My dads are becoming ever so noisy, but also cuddle and kiss a lot more. It's sweet. I always play third wheel. They've been treating me to wet food and treats, along with extra long strokes and they don't even pick me up! Maybe they do realize my birthday is approaching, tomorrow to be exact, and are being nice to me. It's really strange. They aren't bad dads, but always either laugh whenever I fall over or pick me up. I slept in early and to my surprise no noises arose. I appreciated the silence and wanted to take in as much as possible. I closed my eyes and stretched out, my back arching. I relaxed into Mitch's bed. It was lonely. Usually I'd sleep with one of my two dads, and to spite them I'd fall asleep somewhere inconvenient. I didn't want to disturb them and frankly I didn't want to witness what was causing the noises so I avoided Scott's room. As I started to slip away from consciousness I was snapped awake by two big hands wrapping around me. I was picked up and cradled like a baby. Scott had grabbed me and taken me to their room. He set me down between him and Mitch and put his arm around the sleeping man. Scott slowly fell asleep himself, smiling contently. I was going to walk away from this strange maneuver but this was rare, so I would take advantage of it. I settled down with my two dads.

Scott had shaken Mitch, which resulted in disturbing my sleep too. Mitch stirred and groaned as he got up from bed. They seemed to take no notice to the fact that it was my birthday. I guess the increased love and attention was just them being friendly. I mentally sighed and wished myself a happy birthday. This was kind of disappointing. I walked to the living room where Scott and Mitch were grinning like idiots, giggling and mumbling something I couldn't make out. They then got themselves ready to go out and headed out of the door, completely unaware that I existed. I laid down on the wooden floor in defeat. I ran round the house for a while to burn off some energy and wore myself out, so I ate the remainders of my cat bowl and gulped some water down. My food had reverted to the dry stuff that was nowhere near as wonderful as the wet cat food. Now, my meals were bland and dull. I walked to the couch and thought a nap was the best way to pass time. I shrunk down into a comfortable position and just lay there, unable to sleep. They had forgotten my birthday.

After a few hours I heard footsteps. I was thinking of ruining some furniture but my claws had been cut to a useless length and I didn't want to upset the two. I felt so lonely recently. I looked up and saw the two. Mitch was holding something in his arms. A blanket with something lying on top. He was smiling with sheer beauty and looked as if he'd returned from the hospital with a newborn. Scott was looking over his shoulder with just as much bliss. Their faces cheered me up and I looked to see what the source was. They looked up and walked over to me slowly and quietly.

"Hey, Wyatt." Scott whispered. "Meet Aphrodite." He smiled as Mitch presented a girl to me. She looked beautiful and only slightly younger than me. I approached her slowly, making sure I didn't seem threatening.

"Happy birthday, Wyatt." Mitch's tone was filled with delight but he spoke a voice so soft I've only heard it once before, and the adoring looks on their faces only belonged to one special memory. When they adopted me. They had got me a new friend, they did care. They cared so much as to go to all this trouble to get me a friend when I'd get lonely. They weren't replacing me, they were making sure I'd never get lonely or sad. That I'd have someone there when they couldn't be. The two humans sat on the couch as they set Aphrodite on the floor, letting her explore. I offered to help. I meowed at her.

"Hi." I meowed quietly.

"Hello." Her voice was innocent.

"My name is Wyatt." I wanted to make her welcome. She was a beautiful sphinx.

"I don't know my name. My mama never gave me one." She hung her head but I stepped towards her.

"Well, your two daddies have named you Aphrodite. That's Scott, the bigger, blonde one and Mitch is the smaller one with black hair." I looked up when Aphrodite did. She relaxed.

"Aphrodite." She tested the name on her tongue. She then ran a circle around me, bounding and smiling. "I love it." She exclaimed. Mitch and Scott giggled and hugged us, kissing us both on the head. They played with us the entire day and even gave me a cake made out of wet food. Aphrodite watched.

"You want some?" I asked, she looked hopeful for a second before backing down.

"No, thank you." She peeped shyly.

"You do, I know it. Come on. I won't eat it until you help me. I won't finish this on my own." I encouraged her as she grinned and walked up to the treat. We both finished it within minutes. Aphrodite and I talked while chasing each other and learned a lot about our pasts and interests. I learned that the female sphinx loved to run and would always cuddle to other cats. Her favorite colour was Mitch's brown eyes, as she described, because it was the first thing she saw of her new dads. We then sat down and watched SpongeBob. She watched intently at the yellow and pink characters moving around like goofs. They kind of reminded me of Scott and Mitch. Funny and slightly annoying but never able to become parted, no matter what came their way and always thinking of others. I and Aphrodite had leaned into each other, Aphrodite being smaller so I rested my head atop hers, her chin on her two front paws. After a few episodes, we decided to call it a night. I and Aphrodite headed to Mitch's room. I thought the humans would occupy Scott's room for some privacy but they joined us. We rested at the foot of the bed and cuddled, while Scott and Mitch snuggled into bed in a similar way. I stared at my family caringly. Family. I had a real family. When I went up for adoption I thought I was unloved. I have a family who loves me with all their hearts. I put my head on the bed and stared at Aphrodite. She was staring back at me. It wasn't awkward at all. Aphrodite had deep, shining eyes that were a perfect colour of blue. They looked similar to Scott's eyes, but a darker blue, although they had the same energy and innocence. It was peaceful. This was my family.

Me, Aphrodite and my two daddies.
