I'm back! Before my deadline too! I just want to give a big thanks to my Beta reader "Cats are my World"! It is all thanks to them that this is up.
I spent two days on Themyscira. Those two days were the hardest of my life.
When I left the jet I was greeted with a crowd of tall, muscle bound women. Each of which wore a white dress-like garment - that I later learned was called a tunic - and gold bracelets around their wrists.
Wonder Woman ran past me down the ramp and hugged a golden haired woman with a crown on her head. "Mother! I am so glad to see that you are well!" she said.
"As am I Diana, but what brings you back from the outside world? Are you not well yourself?" what I am assuming Wonder Woman's mom said. ('Though I guess her name is Diana.) ((A/N: Finally! I can stop using superhero names for a bit!))
"I am well, Mother. I have come and brought a new little sister to our island." With that - I am not kidding - everyone's head turned and looked back to the ship, or more specifically… me. I gulped and tried to hide, resisting the urge to go invisible and fly away. Diana pulled away from the blonde haired woman and slowly walked up the ramp.
"It's okay, little sister. No one will hurt you here." She held out her hand to me and I, feeling silly for being intimidated by stares, grabbed it. We walked out and went to stand in front of the blonde woman again. Diana bowed and pulled me down with her.
"I, Diana, daughter of Queen Hippolyta, do formally ask for refuge for a small time for both my companion and I."
Queen Hippolyta stepped forward and studied both of us intensely. "Do you swear to uphold our rules and live with honor?"
"I do." Diana said.
"I do." I copied.
"Do you promise to train with us, swear to our sisterhood and live it even in the outside world?"
I felt like this question was more directed at me but I figured I might as well, as they were offering us a place to sleep and it would be rude not to follow their rules while here. So again Diana and I said "I do."
"And, finally, do you swear to never let any man step foot on this island?"
That question really sounded pointed at me, and beside me Diana flinched, but kept her head down. She shouldn't get in trouble bringing me here, since I'm a girl now, but it seems that she has done this before.
"I do." We said.
"Then welcome to the island of the Amazon's. I am Queen Hippolyta but you may call me Mother, for we are all sisters here. Come, the sun has almost set, we must prepare a feast for the coming home of an older sister and the welcoming of a new one."
Everyone cheered, pulled and pushed us forward toward a large temple, it was massive with tall white pillars holding the roof up and large oak doors.
By the time we were seated at a long table, almost all the girls had come up to Diana, hugged her and then turned to give me a hand shake and a 'welcome to the sisterhood speech'. My hand felt like it was about to fall off, plus that and the burns from the fire didn't really help much, I was aching and just wanted to sleep so I could heal faster.
But the feast they had prepared kept me in my seat, it looked like they had just about everything I could think of, spread out elegantly. There was roast beef, ham, steak and even fish. Just looking at it all made my mouth water. Man, Tucker would love it here! It seems the Amazons only ate what they caught, there were very little vegetables on the table and no grains at all.
We feasted until there wasn't a scrap left to eat. "My daughters," the Queen stood, "let us rest for the night and get ready for training at dawn!"
I have never seen a dining room clear out so fast, in the blink of an eye, Diana and I were the only ones left in the hall. "Come little sister, let me show you where to rest for the night."
We walked out and toward a large white tower. When we arrived at the door, it looked more like a prison door than anything else, being made of metal and having bars over the windows, then a place to rest.
"This door is to keep men out of our chambers, should they ever manage to come to our island, go on, little sister, open it."
So this was some sort of test? If it wasn't then Diana would have opened it herself.
I walked up to the door and rested my hand against it, it felt cold to the touch, and I felt a sort of energy push back against my hand. It felt like some sort of magic, the energy slowly died away, before coming back, and gradually dwindling away again. It seems I confused it, I was a male, but right now I was female and allowed on the island, the magic in the door wasn't sure what was going on, so it just kept ebbing and flowing against my hand.
I realized that I must have been staring at the door for a good five minutes when Diana walked up to me and asked if I was alright. I nodded and pushed open the door easily, Diana smiled at me and we started to walk up the spiraling stair case.
"Diana?" I asked
"Yes, little sister?"
"I was just wondering, what is going to happen to Harley?" She hadn't come with us, instead she stayed with the heroes that we left behind.
"Batman has not said anything about Sister Harley, but I believe that there will be a meeting about her soon. She will most likely be given a test to see if she will betray us."
I smiled brightly, "So she's going to be alright?" I was worried about her, it was good to know that Batman was a good guy, even if his glares could probably send most the ghosts in the ghost zone running.
While we were talking, we arrived at my room, with one last reminder I was sent to bed, tomorrow will be interesting. I wonder what training with the Amazons will be like.
Danny was obviously different, I could see that easily. I am not one to boast, but we Amazons are known for being hunters. With that comes a big appetite, young Danny managed to eat almost as much as I did. The little sister was so skinny it was almost like magic watching her store so much in her little body.
Speaking of magic, the door, the one that tests the strength of spirit in Amazons, was almost rejecting Danny. According to legend the door will refuse all men who try to open it, nothing short of a nuke could even scratch the surface if a man shot at it. A woman would have her spirit evaluated and her strength tested.
The door wasn't even the most curious part, after I woke Danny from her hypnotic state she easily pushed it open. Such strength in a small body! All newcomers have troubles with that door yet Sister Danny didn't even look winded! I was so excited to start training tomorrow. How would Danny exceed my expectations? I was so busy imagining what might happen that I almost missed her question.
"Diana?" She sounded nervous, I also noticed that in big crowds, or when the attention is on her, she seems to shrink away from it.
"Yes, little sister?"
"I was just wondering, what is going to happen to Harley?" I was surprised, after finding out that Danny was from another world, I has completely forgotten about Harley. Danny certainly shows a strong personality for friendships.
"Batman has not said anything about Sister Harley, but I believe that there will be a meeting about her soon. She will most likely be given a test to see if she will betray us." I might be lying, truthfully, I don't know what Batman thinks, and I hope that it's like this. If we hurt her then Danny wouldn't be able to trust us, no one should have to be all alone in a place they don't know.
I was almost blinded by this little girl's smile, curious, for some reason I feel at peace. All my excitement from earlier is almost entirely gone. This girl has a mysterious effect on people.
We had reached her room almost before I knew it. I bid Danny goodnight as well as a reminder that we were going to be training at sunrise. With that I left and headed to my own room, it was still in the guest tower because I was still being punished from bringing men to Themyscira. I miss my old room. I felt a peaceful feeling settle over me again and, slowly, I closed my eyes and fell asleep.
I swear, I had only just closed my eyes. It couldn't be morning already could it?
Apparently it was, and, apparently, Amazons wake others up by dumping water on their sleeping heads.
I woke up to a downpour of cold water, I gasped in surprised, only for some to go up my nose and start a coughing fit.
I coughed slightly, before saying in a slightly nasally voice, "I'm up! I'm up!"
When my eyes opened, I saw Diana standing above me, smiling. I also noticed it was still dark.
"Doesn't Dawn mean when the sun is up? Why are you waking me up this early?" I was still trying to get the water out of my nose, so I sounded stuffy.
"Training begins at Dawn, Sister, breakfast is first. Come!"
'Ugh, morning people.' I thought. I obviously wasn't going to be able to go back to sleep and, judging by the bucket next to Wonder Woman, she wasn't above dumping another one on me.
I got up and started pulling on one of my other black shirts (I slept in my bra and underwear) when Diana stepped in and handed me a white cloth.
"And this is?"
"It is your tunic, you must wear it when you visit Themyscira. Outside clothes are not permissible."
"How do you wear it?" I asked, it seriously looked like a roll of white cloth and a golden buckle. I felt slightly dumb for asking, but then again I had never worn a tunic before.
Diana walked over to me and started twisting the cloth around me. It felt like I was wearing a dress. When we were finally done she pulled my arm and we took off to the dining hall.
Yesterday we had a feast, it looks like today we were having a buffet. Besides having a little more food I could not tell the difference between yesterday's meal and todays.
After we ate, everyone gathered out in a clearing next to the tower I had slept in.
"Since we have a new little sister we will start with a run around the island." Said a tall woman with red hair and blue eyes. Everyone nodded and crouched near the edge of the clearing, a conch shell sounded and we all began running.
Note to self: when Amazons say a run around the island, they mean a full out sprint, with hunting along the way.
I was doing my best to keep up, but it wasn't surprising that I was at the back of the pack. I may have ghost powers, but flying wasn't grating on my stamina and the farthest I had ever run before was at the presidential test in gym class last year. The only reason I was keeping up was because I didn't need to breathe as often as a normal human, which meant that I got more out of my muscles for each breath. Panting, for me, was about the normal breathing rate for a human being.
We, as a group, were about two-thirds into the run when a passel of wild hogs rushed right in front of me. Being boars, they were angry that I would dare be in their running path, so they started to try and attack me. There were several Amazons next to me but I probably looked (and was) the weakest.
Three tried to attack from the front while two others tried to slow my movements down. These boars were smart! None of the Amazons were helping so it was another test for me to get out of. 'Now, what do I know about boars?'
'They mostly travel in groups of females' unless its mating season' then the males will drive off others to mate with the sows…Uh…. Uh when was mating season?'
The three in front of me were almost on me, and I jumped as hard as I could. Luckily I gave myself a little gap so I should be okay for a bit, I needed to focus….. 'Mating season, when was mating season? ...uh I think Wiki said sometime in the winter…'
The boars were coming back around for another run before they suddenly slowed down, beside them were little piglets. 'So we must have run across a nest, the mothers were only protecting their young.'
I mentally wiped sweat off my brow and tried to catch up to the Amazons, it didn't take long. They were watching.
"Well done little sister!" One said. "Those boar are not ready to be hunted, but next we will be hunting for ram. Be sure to keep up!" These people were crazy!
Diana started to jog beside me, she looked a bit worried. She was biting her lip and pulling at her hair before fiddling with her hands and starting the process over again.
"I am sorry Danny! We do not usually lead new sisters to wild sow nests, I do not know why they did that!" She did seem genuinely sorry so I believed her. Diana stayed next to me for the rest of the run, there were a couple of times the I felt that I was going to pass out, but Diana would always allow me to stop and take a breather before we caught up to the other group.
Ram hunting was fun, it was amazing how the rams could scale a mountain that looked to have no footholds at all. Luckily Diana protected me and told me what to do and what to look for when hunting.
"Always look for the older rams, the young studs will bring on the next generation. We do not want to dwindle their numbers too much either. We need a balance." We ended up with five goats to bring back with us. Two were still alive and three were going to be made into dinner. The two alive were going to be used for milk and cheese, since they killed the old ones to make last night's feast. I felt kind of bad that they were killed to welcome us, but it tasted really good.
We ended the run about mid-day, no sooner had we gotten back than we had to head to another arena.
It looked strange, half of the Amazons lined up against the wall, while the other half walked behind a couple of bales of hay. It looked to be one bale for each station.
I was given two golden bracelets and told to stay next to the wall. Something told me I wasn't going to like this.
I was completely right.
The Amazons next to the bales of hay took out guns and started firing at the Amazons lines up against the wall. Said Amazons used the bracelets to deflect the bullets. I stared wide eyed at them before a gun shot off near me and a bullet whizzed by my ears.
"Don't gawk sister! Pay attention!" With that lovely note she started shooting at me.
'What the hell! Why do they suddenly think I can do this?' I thought.
Apparently, luckily for me, dodging ecto-blasts is similar to this. Normally I just get out of the way, but the point of this was deflection.
I raised my arm up as another bullet came and felt my wrist go slightly numb as the bullet hit and deflected elsewhere. Three more rounds were fired and I deflected them all, I fell into a rhythm while hitting them away, and soon the other stations went quiet. I didn't even notice, the bullets were coming faster and faster, pausing every once in a while to reload and give me a breather. It was in one of these that the Queen came outside.
When she saw that I was up against the wall she stopped the training. "Daughters! What do you think you are doing? I did not authorize terrorizing our newest little sister!"
It was only then that I realized that I was being glared at. Why? I only met them yesterday, what could I have possibly done to anger them?
The red head from the run walked up to the queen and bowed. "Mother, we believe that Danny is a witch. She could feel the magic of the door, and kept up with us during the morning run. Now she even mocks us using her magic to dodge the bullets." I almost burst out laughing until the queen turned her glare on me.
"Is it true? Do you use magic to aid you?" She looked like she was livid, aren't Amazons supposed to be immortal? Shouldn't they be used to magic?
"W-what! No! I don't have any magic!" I really didn't, but apparently magic was taboo, and if they believed I had it, they might be superstitious enough to go all Salem witch trial on me. They all looked at me and glared, except for Diana. She looked scared but I think that was for me.
"Know this Sister, if you are found to be lying you will immediately be expelled from this island." The queen said. I nodded and everyone dispersed, it seemed it was free time now. Diana walked up to me.
"I am sorry Danny, I do not think you are a magician. We have many in the league, but you do not have the same feeling about you. But my sisters are stubborn and they will continue to believe this until you prove to them otherwise. For now stay with me."
For the rest of the day and the day after that, I stayed with Diana. She taught me about the gods that really existed, who to trust and who not to piss off. She also told me stories of the league and her first adventure with them.
"Martian Manhunter ended up pulling the thing into the sun and it started melting. It attacked Manhunter and fled to its ship, before trying to fly away, we ended up destroying before it even got a hundred meters away!"
She might not have been the best story teller, but it was fun to listen to her talk about all the good she and her team did. Kind of makes me miss home, when my secret was still a secret and Tuck, Sam and I had to protect Amity by ourselves. I know 'twas selfish but it was fun.
Batman had finally contacted us by the end of the second day, and Diana and I both decided that it was a good idea to leave as soon as possible. The Amazons really didn't like me and it was starting to get a bit dangerous to live here. So far they had, put laxative in my food (an herbal remedy), tried to lead the run into a snake pit, at the shooting range three people shot at me at once and the queen didn't even try to make an excuse on why she was ignoring me. Diana was my only help.
We still didn't really know why they hated me so much, magic couldn't be the only reason. I had a theory that the island itself was rejecting me, this island was made for girls so I don't think it liked a male (no matter how female that male was) on the island.
Diana and I said goodbye and boarded the jet as fast as we could. We were in the air and headed back to Happy Harbour, Rhode Island.
Uncle Flash would not let me live it down, after we dropped Harley off at a holding facility of the Bats (where she will stay until Bats gives the okay, but we can visit anytime) Flash teased me the entire way home.
"So, Wally….. Think she's 'the One'?" A huge grin was plastered over his face, I just wanted to hit my head against the wall. This continued on for two days, and what made it worse is that I really did think that she was someone who would be special to me.
I mean, she was strong and pretty, obviously smart, since she was the one who lead us out of Cadmus and she was able to spot the trap in the warehouse even before Robin did. It didn't hurt that she was sarcastic and funny either, the others may not have heard it but, at the HQ tour, I heard her reply to Robin's comment about being 'whelmed'.
She seemed to have this aura about her, it was peaceful but, at the same time, dependable, like she had been doing the super hero thing for year's maybe. In her dimension she might have, I wonder if she had a boyfriend?
As I was pondering I felt a tap on my shoulder…. 'Shoot, I forgot about Uncle Barry.' When I turned around, the smug smirk on his face was all a needed to see to know he knew exactly what my thoughts were about.
"So, she might be, huh?" He said, I didn't want to reply. If I said anything, I would just be digging myself even deeper than I am right now.
"Let me give you some advice,"
'Huh?' I thought.
"When I first saw Isis, I pretty much took the first thing that came to my mind and ran with it…. You can't do that. Girls are delicate and need to know that you can protect them."
Oh. My. God. Is he giving me 'the birds and the bees' talk?
Yes, yes he was.
" – and you need to make sure that she is always first, both in your heart and mind, no more looking at other girls anymore, you have to show her you're serious."
I have never wanted to run away from my uncle before…. But there is a first time for everything.
I took off running as fast as I could with my uncle talking to me every step of the way.
We flew home in silence, I knew Bruce was royally peeved at me. He wasn't very 'gruntled' with me, he was very heavy on the 'dis'. When we landed Bruce just walked over to his computer and started some more experiments. It was a clear sign that I was to leave him alone.
To be perfectly honest I had no idea why I left without him, usually, I would just wake him up if he fell asleep waiting for results and together we would go find the Joker, before beating him and rescuing the victim.
Maybe that was it, Danny wasn't just a victim to me. She wasn't someone who had a regular life and was supposed to be protected as an 'innocent'.
Maybe it was all the stress that had been piling up, first with Speedy leaving and then the whole 'you aren't train to be part of this team' that lead to the whole Cadmus mess, I mean, I barely knew Danny for more than 4 or 5 minutes before we walked into the 'Hall of Heroes' and then we were distracted. Although she was funny, normally people don't get my word plays, but when she answered my 'whelmed' question back at the hall, I felt I found someone I could actually talk with.
Then Cadmus, apparently, she managed to get away from Supey before he caught her, and then she kept her head and helped us escape, she even beat that monster! I had an inkling that she had super strength, sure "Blockbuster" could have been beaten using martial arts, but it would have taken far longer than it did and when she hit it in the stomach it wouldn't have affected it much if she didn't have super strength….. 'I am getting distracted. Why didn't I tell Batman?'
I had finally returned with Superboy to the apartment after being dropped off by my king and a couple of other hero's with the League. I could tell my king was disappointed with me. I normally do not fail to follow orders.
When Robin had texted, I am ashamed to say that I reacted first, without a thought of my previous orders. I went to aid Danny.
She reminded me of Tula, strong, both in mind and body, but also shy and mild-mannered. I could not just leave her!
Though I do wonder why Danny had managed to become so important in such a short time, these next few days I will have to ponder on this.
I am so angry. 'How could I just let Danny take the blast like that? I should have been the last one out of the building!'
When we fought, I could tell she was strong, and she had some power that let her escape from harm, but I couldn't see very well in Cadmus, so I don't know exactly when she did. 'Why didn't she put up one of her green shields?'
'How could I have been so stupid? Since the time we met she has been saving me from everything, why? Weren't girl supposed to be weak? Shouldn't they be protected?' (Yes, I know he is a bit sexist, but give him a break! It's the third day out of a pod, he will learn girls aren't to be messed with)
I was just going around in circles in my head, she was smaller than me, why is it that she seems to be stronger than all of the 'sidekicks' combined? The thoughts in my head kept circling around until I finally settled in front of the blackened T.V. screen and watched the static as my mind was taken elsewhere.
'Stupid Justice League! I will show them. I will get in their little club all on my own! I don't need anyone's help. But I wonder what that girl is doing? She was pretty cute…. What was that? Cheshire?'
And done! Sorry I am not very good at the other p.o.v's if you have any advice for me or just liked the story please review! Next chapter the "team will finally be formed and we will be able to meet Megan" till next time! please R&R
