The rest of the train ride we decided not to talk about savant stuff. Sky probably noticed that I didn't like talking about it and because we were getting some weird looks from people around us, we stopped talking telepathically. I would find it weird too if two people looked at each other, smiled, nodded but didn't talk.
'Where are you staying?' Sky asked after we told each other a bit more about ourselves.
I found out that she lived in Wrickenridge with her parents and that she had a boyfriend (who of course was her soulfinder) named Zed. She loved reading, had a lot of fantasy and she could play three instruments. Three?! You can imagine how untalented I felt, playing none.
'I'm staying with a friend of mine, she lives close to Rawlins and I wasn't expecting to go so I probably couldn't even stay at a hotel anyways. Way to expensive and I'm guessing that they're already full with lots of other-' I stopped my sentence when I realized I was gonna say savants out loud.
Sky understood me though, so she just smiled. 'We're also staying at a friend's house, he's not home and it's big enough to fit all of us.'
I raised my eyebrows 'All of you? With how many are you?'
She giggled 'Thirteen.'
My mouth fell open 'Thirteen? Holy crap that's a lot.'
Sky giggled again 'Well, they're all family.'
'That must be nice, a big family.' I said, thinking about my own small family.
I only had Connor, Olivia and my dog Ranger. Of course we had more family but they all lived in the Netherlands and we barely spoke to them anymore.
The blond girl nodded 'It is, at first I really needed to get used to it but they're all so lovely and they took me in like I was one of their own. I'll introduce you to them tomorrow, I'm sure you'll love them!'.
Before I could answer I heard they called my stop 'This one's mine, I'll probably see you tomorrow.' I said to my new friend.
She smiled, grabbed my arm and wrote her phone number on it. 'Text me if you get there, or when you need to talk to someone. Take care Alexis and don't freak out as soon as you step out of the train okay?' she winked.
I smiled at her, grabbed my suitcase and made my way towards the door that would let me out 'See you Sky!' I yelled over my shoulder.
I felt how her gift slowly stopped working on me and as soon as I stepped outside I took a deep breath of fresh air. I tried to ignore the feeling of panic and I pushed away my nerves. I had to do this on my own now. There wasn't always a Connor or a Sky who could help me. To my surprise it was not as bad as the way I had felt at the beginning of the journey and when I saw my friend Hayley I immediately felt better. She knew how I felt about all of this and even though she didn't have a gift like Con or Sky, her pep talks did the same magic.
When she saw me her lips curled up in a big smile 'Lex! Omygod it's so good to see you!' she said happily while throwing her arms around me.
I hugged her back 'I missed you too Hayls,' I laughed.
'I'm proud of you Lex, I couldn't believe my ears when Connor called me.' She said while dragging me with her to the parking lot.
I wanted to say something but nothing came out of my mouth so I just sighed and gave her a fake smile.
'How was your trip?' she asked, ignoring my silence.
'Good, I met a really nice girl on the train and she's also going to the convention tomorrow.'
Hayley grinned 'You made a friend? Wow Lex, you're growing up so fast.' She teased.
I rolled my eyes but I couldn't help but smile 'Are you going tomorrow?' I asked my friend.
Hayley also didn't find her soulfinder yet and I kind of hoped that she was coming with me. I could use her support.
She squeezed my hand 'Of course I'm coming you silly, I think I'm ready to find him and I need to make sure that you don't run. There's only one thing though.. I have to go to work first, I have an early shift so you have to go there yourself and then we can meet there.'
Hayley worked in the local hospital and she loved her work more than anything.
I smiled 'No worries, that's totally fine with me.'
'Are you sure? I don't want to leave you alone if-'
I stopped her 'It's okay Hayls, I can always call you or Sky if I freak out on the way.'
I suddenly realized that I didn't even know why Sky was going since she already found Zed. I thought about it for a while before I decided I would just ask her tomorrow, maybe she was just there to help out. When we arrived at Hayleys house we were greeted by her two cats who immediately started circling around our legs, asking for some attention.
I let go of my suitcase and picked the red one up 'Hey there boy,' I smiled while hugging him to my chest.
I was a huge animal lover and one thing I always used to say was that I would be just fine with Ranger and a few cats. I mean come one, who needs a boy when you can have a puppy. Animals were so much better than people, they're loyal, cute and my dog always seemed to understand me better than any of my friends. I don't even feel ashamed by saying that Ranger was my best friend. I didn't need a soulfinder as long as I had him. My mind wandered off to tomorrow. What if I did meet him tomorrow? What if..
