A/N: Hello, I am sorry for the very long wait on this story but I just lost inspiration on it and kind of wanted to drop it. But then I though about all the stories I've loved and how I couldn't read anymore because there wasn't ever going to be a continuation and I didn't want to be that kind of person. Here it is the third chapter of Battlefield. Hope you enjoy it!

Chapter 3

Yui knew one thing for sure. The letter that she had found was old. By the look of it, it may have been older than herself. That was the only thing she was pretty certain. No, there was something else. When she read it it was as if she could almost hear Reiji speaking. None of the brothers were this polite, but Reiji.
But what? Did Reiji think a few years prior that her father was a vampire hunter? Did vampire hunters actually exist? No, that was a misunderstanding. Well, yes, vampire hunters may exist, but her father wasn't one of them. He was a good priest and wonderful father.

Not wanting to stay any longer in the laboratory, Yui got out, not caring that she would end up eventually all wet because of the rain.

"Where have you been, idiot?"

Yui turned around when she saw the youngest sibling of the Sakamaki household. She was drying her hair with a pink fluffy towel when he entered her room, annoyed by the look of his face. Seeing her in a pair of black short and a baby blue oversized t-shirt that he had bought her a couple of months back, and her blond hair wet, he blushed. She looked all the more innocent.

"Subaru-kun, is something wrong?" her voice broke through him and without saying anything he went straight to her and sat next to her.
"You've been in the rain, haven't you, idiot?" he asked and she just nodded. Why say it out loud when the answer was obvious? "With who?" he pressed further.

"By myself. I was just walking when the rain started."

She didn't say anything about the laboratory or about the letter that she had found and that was now hidden in a drawer.

"Subaru-kun, can I ask you something?" she said, still drying her hair. When the boy turned his fully attention to her she continued. "Do vampire hunters exist?"

"Huh? What's with that? Do you want to kill all of us and don't know how?"

The girl just shook her head and sighed. She should have expected something like this coming from the boy. "Of course not, Subaru-kun. I was just curious."
The white haired vampire just laid down on her bed, his eyes never leaving her. After minutes Yui was starting to think that he wouldn't even answer her this much. "Yeah, they do."

She turned her attention to him, seeing how his beautiful red eyes were watching her, inspecting her. In the past months she had found him doing so quite often and at first he would advert his eyes and blush, but lately he would just continue to look at her.

"But vampire hunters don't come for us. I mean for me and my brothers, unless we call them to do a job." he said, moving his attention to the ceiling.

"A job?" the young human girl asked, hoping to get something more out of the vampire.

"Yeah, for example, a few years ago Reiji asked for a vampire hunter to kill his mother." he said while closing his eyes.

"To kill his mother?" she asked, not forgetting everything about her wet hair.

"Told you we're messed up." he shrugged and a few moments later his hand was searching for her and when he found it he pulled her so she would end up in his arms. His eyes were scanning her face, taking in her beauty. He had seen a lot of girls in the past years. A lot of sacrificial brides had been in Yui's place before and none of them really mattered to him. But Yui, she was different. Not only her blood, but she got under his skin and he didn't know how. This girl, she was the only one who had ever captured his attention.

"Subaru-kun...?" her voice was shaky but not out of fear. Yui just couldn't feel fear around him. He had been protecting her for some time now, he had stood up for her. Yes, he also called her an idiot every time he had the chance but she could see that behind his words, he actually cared for her.

"Shur up!" was all he said and next his lips found hers. Cold met warmth and at first Yui didn't know what to do. She couldn't believe that he was that cold or that his lips were so soft. They stayed like that for a few seconds and just before Subaru wanted to back up, thinking that he had screwed up everything he had build in the last months, she kissed him back.

That night they just stayed together, chatting and sleeping while some of the brothers were playing either the piano or violin, or were reading, or were playing with their favorite teddy. All thinking the same thing. That the younger brother wouldn't get too far with the human girl.

And another brother was just looking at them through the balcony window, his eyes full of envy.
