Megan scribbled her name on the visitor check in sheet along with Remus Lupin's and Sirius Black's, yawning. The small break that she had managed to get in from the time that she got off of work at had allowed her only enough time go eat and enjoy a small nap, but she wasn't sure it had helped could only be dissuaded to avoid seeing his friend for so long when he was in the hospital, which Megan had to admit wasn't any different than if Lily had somehow gotten placed in the hospital. Hopefully, however, her best friend would remain safe enough so that never happened.

Megan pushed open the curtain in James's room to reveal the Marauder sitting up in bed, eyes slightly glazed over as he stared out the window. Sirius bounded over and sat on the chair left to the bed, eyes appraising James quickly in a quick health check, apparently.

"How are you doing, James?" Megan queried, eyes watching as her boyfriend narrowed his eyes at his injured friend, looking suspicious.

"Fine, I guess." James didn't look at any of them, still staring out the window. Sirius's lips tightened and Megan tilted her head slightly to the left. What was wrong with her boyfriend, for Merlin's sakes? She sent her own appraising eyes over the three boys and decided that they might need their privacy, just some guy time, perhaps.

"I can go talk to your healer. Just le me find out who it is and..."
"It's Lily." James's voice came out half chocked, half croaking and Megan's face paled almost immediately. Lily? Oh, poor Lily. Who knew what it was doing to her, being forced to care for her ex boyfriend whom she still loved and having to pretend that he was just a regular patient?

Remus's head popped up in surprise and he glanced at James again, studying him. Sirius's entire face tightened and he scowled, crossing his arms in front of his chest. Megan surveyed all three's expressions and let out a small sigh.

The door opened and the aforementioned red head wandered in, a clipboard in her hands and her eyes adverted to the ground as she walked. Megan moved closer to her friend as she stepped further into the room, wanting to protect her as much as she could from the emotions she must be feeling.

"Still awake...uh...hi!" The false cheery tone that Lily shot out didn't reach her face and Megan fixed her gaze on her boyfriend. Lily stopped immediately at the sight of the two additional boys and then fixated her gaze of Megan. "Do you want me to come back?"
Sirius opened his mouth to say yes, but the extremely dark look that Megan shot him kept him quiet. "No, Lils, it's fine. I'm sure you're busy and exhausted enough without having to worry about arranging another time to do a checkup."

Lily shot a look of gratitude at Megan as she began her exam of James, marking quick dashes on the clipboard as she did so. Sirius's eyes followed her the entire time, expression completely dark and angry and Megan bit her lip, wishing that she was close enough to punch him. She pleaded that Lily wouldn't turn to see him.

Megan didn't miss the flinch that Lily automatically did when her eyes came into contact with Sirius and how quickly she spun around. Nor did she miss the way her hand shot up to her eye and she rubbed something away as she practically ran out the door, forgetting her clipboard on the counter by the bed. Megan stalked over to Sirius and slapped him swiftly across the face. Sirius grunted and grabbed at his cheek, wincing, but holding his ground. "What? She deserved it. He," Sirius gestured wildly at his best friend on the bed, whom eyes were trained on the door that Lily had just vanished through, "Hasn't been the same since."

"I am so freaking sick of you judging my best friend when you have no idea what she is going through. You have no idea what the story is, so just don't!" Megan's words sliced through the air and brought Sirius to his feet.

"Why don't you tell us then, if the little brat has it so bad?" Sirius's words came out as a hiss and Megan jumped towards him, but Sirius spun around the chair, leaving it between them. Sirius momentarily glanced at Remus, whom was staring intensely at a piece of parchment. Sirius raised an eyebrow at him. "What are you reading?"

Remus's eyes widened and he looked up with a pure expression filled with shock. "You jerk! You a..."
"Did Lily drop that?" Megan interjected, staring at the paper with widened eyes. "When she spun around, did that fall out of her..."
Remus nodded and Megan bit her lip, nodding to herself. She had thoughts about returning to give her boyfriend another swift punch, but decided her best friend needed her more and turned around. "I need to go find Lily." She took a few steps before pausing and turning to look at Remus again. "Hey, Rem, would you want to come with me? Maybe you should..."
"Coming." Remus followed her out of the door, turning to glance at his two friends before shutting the door behind him.

James glanced at Sirius, his expression still pained. "What just happened?"

Sirius shrugged, rubbing his reddened cheek.
