Grasspelt gasped when he saw the Moonfalls for the first time. It was a large circular gorge where three different waterfalls flowed down the cliffs and sent a bright luminescent spray of mist, hiding the bottom.

"Watch where you put your paws, it's slippery, I don't fancy breaking my neck tonight." Sandpelt meowed as she walked down a path that seemed to lead right around the inside of the gorge. He followed her, the track was narrow and slick with water and slimy moss that grew on the rock.

At the bottom was a large pool filled with rippling water that seemed to glow by some mysterious power, as if it were full of stars. There were large pale white rock that jutted up just enough that they broke the surface, providing a path of stepping stones that lead to a wide flat rock in the center. There were already two cats there, one a pale silver tabby tom with yellow eyes and a smaller, white she-cat with ginger patches and light blue eyes. He followed Sandpelt across the stepping stones, praying silently to StarClan to let him not slip and fall in the water.

"Silverwing, Robinpaw." Sandpelt mewed briskly, dipping her head to each of them

"Greetings Sandpelt." Silvertail meowed, the silver tom looked to Grasspelt and said,

"Who are you, You smell like StoneClan, but where is Willowtail?" He seemed courteous and curious, without a mousetail of suspicion. Very much unlike what he was used to seeing when meeting a cat from another clan.

Grasspelt dipped his head. "Willowtail was killed by a fox a half moon ago when she was collecting herbs near Redstones. As you know she did not have an apprentice and as such, we were left without a Medicine Cat, until Maplestar received a sign from StarClan that I was to be the new Medicine Cat." He mewed quietly.

Both Silverwing and Robinpaw dipped their heads.

"She will be missed." Silverwing mewed.

"She was funny I liked her a lot." Robinpaw looked up to the sky, which was somehow visible through the mist above them. "She hunts with StarClan now, that is at least some comfort." she mewed.

Silverwing nodded, resting his tail on his apprentice's shoulder.

"There will be time to mourn her later. Now, There is a ceremony to conduct." Sandpelt meowed sharply.

"Step forward Grasspelt." The tabby tom did as he was told standing a tail length in front of Sandpelt. "Grasspelt, is it your wish to enter the mysteries of StarClan as a medicine cat?" Sandpelt meowed, looking at him her bright blue gaze unnervingly sharp.

"It is." He replied

"Warriors of StarClan, I present you with this apprentice. He has chosen the path of a medicine cat. Grant him your wisdom and insight so that he may understand your ways and heal his Clan in accordance with your will."

Grasspelt felt his spine tingle as the wiry she-cat spoke. Briefly she touched noses with him as she might with any other apprentice. Though something about the simple gesture was disconcerting. She turned away and lay down near the edge of the stone, she seemed to touch her nose to the glowing water and was instantly asleep. Grasspelt followed her suit and crouched down near the strange glowing water. He drank a few droplets and felt his body turn to ice as everything else around him went black.
