Ok, first of all, I AM SOOOO SORRY for not posting in a while. I have been working on it, I just haven't had the time to finish and publish it due to school projects and tests and whatnot. I know that that is no excuse for being gone so long, but I promise you that no matter how long it is until I post again, that I will NOT forget to finish the story!
Anyway, I know it's not terribly long, I'll try to work on that. But, unfortunately, I'm not off until Easter now, so don't expect much from me until then. (I might though because of all this snow ;)
So, ENJOY!
Chapter 4
"Oh man!" Laura whined disappointingly.
"Now what?" said a very annoyed Raphael. It was bad enough taking care of one human, now there was another one, except this one was almost exactly like Donatello.
Laura looked up at Raph with such agony on her face, that he couldn't help but feel pity for her. "I must've left my phone at the hotel so no one would steal it!"
Raph didn't want to show any sign of feeling sorry, of seeming weak.
So instead, he said, "Nice going Dorkatron. What's next? Your mom forgetting to turn hers on? Or, how about not-"
"Raphael!" Suddenly, a giant rat came out into view from the dojo. Laura was introduced to Splinter the first night after the turtles rescued her, but she never really had time to talk to him since. "Obviously Laura is very upset about this. After all, how would you feel if there was no way for you to contact your brothers or I?"
Raph stopped to think. "I guess I would feel somewhat trapped and hopeless, too. Sorry Laura."
Laura shrugged. She wasn't really trying to sound like a scared little girl, but she was definitely on the brink of breaking. "Finding my mom just got harder than I wanted it to be." She started resting her head on her knees, when Donnie spoke up.
"Couldn't you call her on one of our phones?" He asked.
"My mom doesn't really fancy picking up when a random stranger's number is on the screen." Laura said discouragingly. "Besides, she's probably on the phone with the police 24/7, so it's not like we'd get a hold of her to begin with. Actually, none of my friends, if I even knew their numbers, would even think about picking up!"
"Well that's stupid." Raph said. He was answered with a well-intentioned staff-to-foot hit from Splinter. "OW!" He screamed as he fell to the floor, holding his foot, while wincing in pain.
"Anyway, maybe we could take you topside and try to find her that way." Leo suggested.
Donnie started to have a hint of worry in his voice. "Wait, what?! But what if DogPound is out there? You know we can't take him alone."
"Guys it's okay, I'm not helpless." Everyone stopped and turned toward Laura. They didn't want to admit it, but they all thought she was at least a little helpless. "I mean, have you seen me at dodge ball?" Everybody shook their heads, the most obvious answer. "Well, I hate dodge ball's guts, but when someone is trying to pelt me with an unnecessarily fast ball, it's kind of my goal for it to break through the wall instead of my face!" she was seriously getting off track. "What I'm trying to say is… if all else fails, I can dodge anyone who comes my way."
"Seems legit." Everyone nodded. "What do you think boss?"
Leo looked up, obviously deep I thought. He sighed. "I guess it'll be safe. Donnie," he looked to Donatello, worry in his eyes. "Can you keep an eye on Laura- just in case something happens?"
"Um, sure Leo." Donnie looked over to Laura, then back to Leonardo. "But, why me? I mean, shouldn't you or Raph do that instead? I just don't think-"
"You'll be fine. And it's not like none of us will be with you. We just need someone that won't walk off and get into a fight or something. You're the guy who can get Laura out of a situation the quickest." Leo explained. He didn't like when one of his brothers-especially Donnie-said that he "wasn't qualified" for the job he assigned to them. There were reasons for his choices.
He was about to speak more, when Raph piped in, probably trying to get the ball rolling. "Yeah, that's one way to put it. The other is that you brought her here, you cared for her, so now you look after her!"
"I'm not a baby!" Laura whined, while at the same time Donnie yelled, "I'm not a babysitter!"
While the others left to get the Shellraiser ready, Donnie stayed behind so he could talk with Splinter.
"My son, this is not the first time I have told you that something, or someone, is your responsibility."
Donnie was a little unsure about himself, but he said anyway, "I know Master Splinter. I promise I will do whatever it takes to keep Laura safe." After a quick bow, Donatello ran swiftly out to help with the mission.
By the way: Remember to check back over the summer especially, because I get really bored over break, sooooooo….
THANKS FOR STICKING WITH ME! You guys are the GREATEST! :D
