AN: Ok so this is my first author's note! Thanks for reading this and I'm sorry if it's horrible. The characters are so OOC and idk how to help it! I just wanted to explain how the story works if it's confusing at all:

- italics: this could mean inner thinking, flashbacks or just plain old emphasized words

- ALL CAPS: this means shouting or extremely emphasized words

- •••: all flashbacks will start/end with three dots

- bold: ANs will be in bold

Hope you have a nice day!

Natsu's POV

I'm not quite sure what prompted me to be so friendly to the new girl. Sure, she was weird, but something about her just made me want, no, need to protect her. I knew I was going to get teased, I've never had a girlfriend, I'm not even friends with a lot of girls. Everyone I've met just isn't right… not that I think Lucy is the one or anything… I'm just excited about telling everyone about how she had to rescue the weak-ass ice princess. Yeah that's the only reason…

It's not like I feel more complete with her near me or get butterflies every time she laughs…

Nope she's just like my other nakama. Exactly like them. No difference.

Anyway, I easily sprinted with her over my shoulder (a little too easily, she probably needs to eat more) and slid to a stop in front of Fairy Tail Dorm: my home. Staring up at the huge doors, for the first time I sort of didn't want to go inside, didn't want to share Lucy. I gently set down the fuming girl in front of me.

"Natsu! You are more annoying than Voldemort. I can walk myself you know." She scolded, poking me in the chest, well, more the stomach because she was so short.

I laughed and pulled her into a hug, just glad she wasn't shy anymore. "Ready to meet my family?"

She took a deep breath in and hugged me back tightly. "No, but you'll be there so it's ok."

I was glad she had her face buried in my stomach so she didn't see my tomato-red face.

"I'm home!" I shouted opening the doors to what we call the guild hall. Lucy nervously walked behind me, holding onto the back of my jacket.

"No one cares, fire breath," a gruff voice yelled, causing Lucy to jump.

"Well I have an announcement."

The entirety of Fairy Tail looked up and Lucy gave a small squeak, still hidden from view. Before I could say anything, the doors flew open once again and a deep voice rang out.

"Flame brain I know it was you who knocked me out! Fight me!"

The now non-unconscious Gray climbed onto a table and hurled a chair at me and Lucy. Time seemed to slow as I instinctively curled around Lucy, letting the chair hit me squarely in the back.

Glancing worriedly down at the shocked girl, I threw her over my shoulder once again and turned to my confused dorm mates.

"Back to my announcement: This is Lucy, she's the new girl and is staying in this dorm. You can all be friends with her but she is my best friend. Hurt her and I will smash your brains out! We're going to get something to eat now because frosty the ice idiot almost killed her. Let's go Luce."

I walked out the door, ignoring the shouts of protest from my guild mates and set her down in front of the doors again. This time, instead of yelling at me, Lucy let out a breath and rested her head on my stomach. "That was overwhelming."

Staring down at her, I began to feel ashamed of myself. This cute girl was depending on me to— wait did I just call her cute?!

I was jolted out of my thoughts as the guild's doors opened with a creak.

"Lucy, is that really you?"

And all of the sudden my new friend was giving Fairy Tail's residential playboy the biggest bear hug I had ever seen. Only one thought ran through my head:

WHAT THE HELL?
