Chapter 4: Mending a Broken Heart
Penelope was busy crying into Vivian's pillow as she and Minnie who came over later rubbed her back trying to console their dear brokenhearted friend. "Why?" Penelope brawled… "How could Silvester and Priscilla do this? Especially her… she was my best friend. Why would she—?"
"Priscilla's had her eyes on Silvester for a while since she first came here. It was bound to happen… Love is a b word sometimes. I knew a handsome little doggy. He was kind passionate pup, and I thought we were a match made in Heaven. That is… until MY F-ING BACKSTABBING LITTLE OLDER SISTER WENT AND STOLE HIM FROM ME!" Minerva yelled accidentally snapping her pencil. She held her face in her hands and started crying. "Wah Charlie; come back! I need you!"
Vivian sighed smacking her forehead with her hand. "Oh Lord Jesus in Heaven, grant me strength. Look you two, these things happen, the only thing you can do is just try to deal with it and hope to find something better."
"What do you know?!" The two weeping girls retorted. A sweat drop went down the side of Vivian's head.
She smiled nervously. "Relax you two, there will be other guys someday. Penelope… did you forget already?" She smiled reminding Penelope.
Brief images of Pepé went through her head. She wiped her face and smiled a little dreaming of him. "He may be a pervert and he may stink at times. But he have to admit, he is quite good at making girls' swoon like crazy. I think I may be falling in love with him after all."
"What about me?! I'm not happy, I didn't find an exotic romantic cutie to make me feel loved yet. Why does God hate me?!" Minerva whined and got up and walked slowly downstairs. "I'm going to go drown my sorrows in ice cream till my pants buttons pop."
Penelope sighed. "Sheesh, what a drama queen."
Vivian giggled. "Oh I don't know, both of you seemed pretty dramatic to me."
Penelope laughed and tackled her then tickled her. "Oh am I really that dramatic?"
Vivian laughed with tears streaming down her face. "Penelope! Stop, no! Bad kitty!" She sprawled out on the bed, then gasped and squeaked as Penelope gave her a little tickle near her breasts. "H-hey! Don't you dare!"
"Aww, what's a matter, no little girl fun to make me feel better? Are you chicken?" Penelope smirked.
Vivian smirked. "Don't test me woman."
Both the girls smiled at each other, then jumped as they heard a thud. They rushed downstairs to see what happened.
Surely enough, Minerva was on her butt with ice cream on her face, she looked at the cat and mouse. "Not... a... word."
Penelope kneeled next to her and scooped some ice cream off her cheek. "Mm... vanilla. I love vanilla." Just then, she smirked evilly and started licking the ice cream off her cheek.
"Hey; cut that out! Penelope that's gross! I know you like milk, but have some class!" Minerva gasped as Penelope started licking the ice cream in her neck. Minerva let out a soft moan from the friendly fire. "Penelope please! This isn't the time for—ahhn!" She jumped as her feline friend nibbled the glob of ice cream dripping onto her shoulder. At this point she panting, unintentionally turned on.
Vivian was sitting back laughing at the two girls. "Cats and dogs are usually supposed to enemies. This is so cute, I can't stand it! Ahahahahaha! Hey look at Penelope. She seems to like ice cream." Noting Penelope's tomato red face.
"I don't think she has ice cream on the brain." Minerva laughed and blushed as Penelope kissed her cheek.
"Oh Pepé, I didn't realize how... cold your face is... what the heck?" Penelope's eyes shot open.
Vivian burst out laughing. Minerva blushed looking away shyly with a sly smile. "That felt good chérie... plus! (More!)" She whined, holding back a giggle.
Penelope screamed. "Awwww!"
The girls giggled and hugged Penelope imitating Pepé's charm but failing at the accent. "I love you Pen. You know how much I love you right." Vivian smiled, kissing her cheek. "You have the fairest skin in all of Paris!"
"Just wait, after marriage, you'll be all mine, ripe and ready for our future family." Minerva whispered trying not to laugh.
"Okay, I think I get the joke; let's get clean up." Penelope laughed, heading upstairs with the others. "Marriage? That's right... I haven't heard him bring it up. After how horrible I've treated him, I never even thought about that... I've been so mean to him, and never even asked myself why..."
Penelope stayed quiet contemplating her thoughts, and thinking much more heavily about Pepé. She remembered how he felt when she saw him with his grandmother. He wasn't the usual flirty upbeat skunk that she knew. For the first time ever, she saw Pepé shed that mask, she had actually gotten to see a glimpse inside Pepé's psyche, then thought about all the Vivian said before she went to visit him. She remembered the pain on his face, eyes full of tears, forced to smoke and drink to feel better.
She then asked herself if he did all this after the day was over. Did he actually listen to Penelope's cutting words and just denied them? Did he intentionally endure her insults until he got home, then took it out on his grandmother? She only asked herself why she was so mean to him more, why did she hate him. What had he done to make her so angry? He was only trying to acknowledge her beauty right? The beauty that no one else seen, that everyone ignored while her sisters got all the affection.
When she thought about how bad her step-mother treated her, then looked back at how she treated Pepé; the guilt swelled up inside of her, to the point, she started crying. She was angry because she was doing the same thing to him that her wicked stepmother did to her, and it disgusted her.
While everyone was asleep, she tried to stay up thinking about Pepé. His flirting, his charm, his optimism until she passed out.
Something strange has occurred, she was looking at a bunch of faces, that looked blurry. She scanned around at her surroundings, and looked down at what she was wearing. It was a beautiful white gown, striped at the arms, exposing her shoulders but still hugged her body nicely. She could see white sparkling three inch heels, open toe, her toenails, a shade of dark blue. She looked over her shoulder and saw Vivian and Minerva smiling at her, but something white was obstructing her vision.
She soon went into shock as organ music started playing the familiar melody "Here Comes the Bride". She could've sworn she saw her mother Tiffany ushering her down the aisle toward the alter. She stopped at where the priest was standing and looked at a shadowy figure standing across from her; her hands in his. She was in utter shock at what was going on; of course was a wedding.
The priest started residing what was usually said as she tried to peer through her veil to see who it was. Penelope was instantly snapped back to reality when she heard her groom say "I do."
She immediately recognized the voice and panicked. When the priest asked her, she stammered trying to hold it in but it was as if her heart was taking over her instinct. She replied with her "I do" as well. When she realized this she nearly fainted, surely enough, her veil was lifted to show Pepé smiling. She turned red at how nice he looked in his black tux. She was literally his blushing bride. Pepe dipped slowly in his arms as he closed his eyes to kiss her. She didn't try to fight back like she wanted to. Her heart starting beating out of control when a loud alarm rung throughout the church.
She opened her eyes and sat up to see the alarm bell ringing from Vivian's Tom and Jerry themed clock. Vivian hit the button on the clock to stop it and sat up yawning. "What the heck was that just now? What just—?"
"Good morning Penelope. Come on, we gotta get dressed and head to school; Mom made breakfast before she left." Vivian said.
"O-okay." Penelope stammered sweating and panting.
The three went downstairs, ate breakfast and proceeded to school: Penelope in a black sweater and jeans, Vivian in a pair of brown khakis and a white dress shirt and Minerva in a dark purple shirt and jeans with a jewel stuttered stripe down the side.
They walked into the hallway of the school, until Vivian stopped. "Hey Penelope are you okay? You're usually quiet, but this time you're starting to scare me." she said.
"Oh, I'll be fine, just something on my mind."
"You mean Pepé?" Minerva smirked.
"Hey!" Penelope's face turned red. "Well a little..."
Penelope went to her locker to get her books. "See you guys at lunch!"
Silvester, decked out in baggy jeans and a red football theme shirt. "Hey Penelope, I didn't see you last night. Where were you?"
"Oh, something, unexpected happened while I was on the way, and I had to leave." Penelope shut her locker with some force behind it.
"Are you okay? You seem angry about something." Silvester said going to grab her arm gently.
Penelope clenched her fists trying not to cry. "I'm fine; just leave me alone!"
Pepé wearing a brown jacket, white t-shirt and jeans torn at the knees, rounded the corner and saw the two cats. He started to seethe with rage sensing something was wrong.
Silvester grabbed her arm. "Why won't you talk to me? What is wrong with you?" he hissed angrily.
"Don't act like you care! Get away from me!" she screamed trying to fight him off.
Silvester pinned her against the wall. "Hey, you need to calm down."
Pepé separated the two, and pushed Silvester against the wall. "What the heck do you think you're doing to Penelope!"
"I'm not doing anything! She just started going ballistic!" Silvester yelled. "I think she may need counseling, or maybe to get laid, since she seems to be PMSing today!"
Pepé glared at him. "I think you need to leave, now!"
Priscilla ran up to them and separated the two boys. "Hey, what's going on here?" She knelt at Penelope's side. "Pen what's wrong?"
"Your boyfriend is two-timing!"
"What?!" All three of them gasped.
"I went to go see Pepé last night after hearing about his mother, before that I was going to go to the movies with Silvester. When I got there, he was sitting locking lips, tongue all in—." Penelope started sobbing.
Silvester stood there in shock. "What?! No, that's not true! She asked me out and I said no, but she begged; only to end up not showing!"
"But wait, you told me! You weren't seeing anyone else that night!" Priscilla hissed.
"I wasn't! Penelope was just a regular fluke, probably looking for a quick make out."
"YOU SON OF A—!" Penelope scratched him.
Vivian and Minerva came down to check on Penelope and saw the fight, they pried the angry, crying Penelope off of Silvester who was bleeding under his eye. "Penelope easy; calm down! He's not worth it!" Minerva shouted holding her back from attacking.
Pepé looked back at the crying Penelope who was being consoled by her friends.
Silvester chuckled. "You know, you two make an interesting couple. A bipolar pussycat and a smoke blowing drunkard skunk... you two deserve each other. At least you two won't be alone anymore! You can be miserable toget—."
Pepé punched Silvester and knocked him unconscious panting heavily. He growled shaking his hand. "That's enough out of you 'player'." He walked to Penelope and knelt to her caressing her cheek. "Are you alright Mon amour?"
Penelope eyes started watering as she hugged Pepé tightly. "Thank you Pep, thank you."
Minerva and Vivian smiled at the sight. Priscilla looked at the couple hugging then looked at Silvester in disgust. "I can't believe I ever saw anything in you. When you get your act together and learn how to treat a girl right, then talk to me; goodbye Silvester." She threw a handful of tissues on his chest then looked at the girls and hugged them. "I'm really sorry for all this. I shouldn't have been so blinded by a handsome face. If I want a cute face, next time. I want to make sure he has Pepé's level of loyalty."
Vivian and Minerva smiled. "Heh yeah." All three of the girls laughed.
Pepé and Penelope smiled at each other. During lunch, they were sitting up in the secret rooftop explaining what their life was like growing up, much like Pepé did with Naomi. "Oh, I see, so no one saw you as beautiful during your childhood. It must've been really tough for you." he said.
"Yeah, my sister seemed to get all the guys. I was just an invisible kitten to them. I don't know why people hate me." Penelope looked down and hugged her knees.
Pepé wrapped his tail around her waist. "Well, I know you don't like me, but I think you're the most beautiful creature I've ever laid eyes on. You're so kind, and strong, I've never seen such courage in a girl before."
Penelope blushed turning red and smiling giggling gently. "Pepé, I'm really sorry about the way I treated you before. I guess I was just so worried about everyone judging me if I ended up with you that I didn't see how sweet and cute you are." She smiled cuddling against him.
"You really think I'm cute? You don't think I'm a pervert or a nuisance chérie?" Pepé gasped blushing deeply.
"Mhmm... Pepé I think I... really love you." She smiled and got on his lap and wrapped her arms around his neck looking into his eyes.
Pepé stammered gently trying to gently push her back. "Don't you think it's a little early for a make out? I mean we haven't even went out on a date yet. We should know more about each other first."
Penelope smiled, surprised at how nervous little Pepé Le Pew was being. She kisses his cheek causing Pepé to blush in shock. "Hard to believe the big romantic skunk is such a shy one."
"Well, it's been a while I actually kissed someone." Pepé said blushing. "How about you?"
"Well, I have a confession... I've only ever kissed one person, it was a cute orange alley cat back in the high school I went to. He was a very nice fellow, but I had to move away. Last I heard he met a nice wealthy type cat with some cute kittens and decided to stay with her."
"Hmm... well, I really am glad that you finally told me about your life..."
"Same, and I'm really happy. If it wasn't for you protecting me from him. Or being so concerned, I wouldn't have realized what a great guy you are." Penelope smiled and leaned in close then pressed her lips firmly against his.
Pepé gasped then closed his eyes gently as he started trying to massage Penelope's lips with his tongue, but was stopped shortly after.
"Not yet Pepper lips, date first, make out session later." Penelope winked.
"How about tomorrow night? Eight o'clock? The movies?" Pepé asked, holding her hand and helping her up.
"As long as you're not making out with my best friend like Silvester."
"Why do that when I have you?"
Penelope giggled gleefully clinging to his arm. "Fair enough."
Pepé smiled and looked at her. "Je t'aime mon amour. That means I love you."
"I'm aware. I know that much, and I love you too. We better head back." Penelope smiled back.
Pepé hooked his arm with Penelope's and walked downstairs with her. "Pepé Le Pew... you gave me the love I thought I could never have... thank you..." She leaned against Pepé as tears of joy fell from her face.
