Think I'm Cool

"Hey, can you come with me?"

"Where are we going?"

Maka fiddled with her thumbs. "To the library..." She replied quietly.

"Ugh. So uncool." Soul groaned.

His meister frowned, stomping her feet. "If you don't want to come, you don't have to! Shinigami-sama, Soul!" She turned and was out the door before he could say anything about it.

The white-haired male stood silent for a moment before running a hand through his hair.

"Fuuuuck."

The ash-blonde laughed at what he had said.

In moments like these, she was glad she knew him.

But somehow, those moments were ruined.

By the boy himself.

"Wait, hold on Maka. Your hair..." He stuck his tongue out as he fixed her pigtail.

The 5th time in that hour.

She sighed, lifting herself from her spot on the library. "Thanks for that Kid. But, I have to get going. It's my turn to cook tonight." She gave a tired smile, patting her friend's head.

"No problem. By the way, don't get so worked up over it." He smiled up at her before looking down to the book in his lap.

"How... How could you tell?"

He shrugged without looking up, flipping to another page. "I could sense it in your soul the moment you came in here."

Maka groaned, rubbing her face.

Kid chuckled slightly. "It's fine. Just ask him. You'll get your answer then."

"How do you know?"

"He told me the answer."

The scythe meister puffed her cheeks out and stomped her foot. "Then why don't you just tell me!"

He sighed before shutting his book and looking passively at the fellow meister. "Because it won't be the same hearing it from me." He stood up gracefully, collecting the books around him. "Now, go home Maka. It's getting late." He waved to her as he walked to the front desk.

"Whatever." She grumbled before turning her back and stomping out the library.

"Men."

When she stepped into the apartment, she didn't expect dinner already on the table.

She also didn't expect a bouquet of white daisies in her mother's vase in the middle of the table.

Her mother loved white daisies.

She got closer to the table, she spotted a note standing up in front of the vase.

"I'm sorry Maka. I know I'm hard to get along with most of the times, I'm actually surprised you haven't dropped our partnership the first day.

So, I just want to say that although I'm hard to get along with, I'm always going to be there for you.

No matter how annoying you get.

P. S. I won't be back till later tonight, sorry.

Your partner always,

Soul."

Maka smiled, smelling a single daisy and looking down at the dish he prepared.

Steak.

"That idiot."

The next day, she woke up to a very familiar sound she couldn't quite place her finger on.

She sat up, reaching for a glass of water on her bedside table.

Only to realize it wasn't there and a book had taken its place.

It wasn't a new book, no, it was a book she had lost years ago.

She hadn't been able to finish it and refused to borrow it from the library. She had been given that book when her father had actually remembered her birthday, had actually celebrated with her and Kami.

There was only one explanation.

As she thought about the explanation, she began to realize what the sound that had woken up to was.

She quickly slipped on her indoor slippers and quietly went out of her room.

The closer she got to the living room, the louder the sound became.

She smiled when she saw her weapon on the floor, playing a composition on a keyboard.

When he was done playing, she sat beside him.

"Good morning." She greeted with a nudge of her elbow.

Soul chuckled, pressing a white piano key. "Morning."

"So, where'd you find it?"

"On an old friend of ours. Along with these music sheets." He waved the music sheets that were in front of him in his hands.

"You want back there?" She asked in surprise.

Neither of them had gone in there for years, mostly because the duo were too busy.

"Yeah. Nothing's changed..." He smiled softly at her before turning back to the piano.

"Hey Soul? Can I ask you something?"

His heart started to race. Why did people always ask that question. "Sure. Ask away."

"Why are you so obsessed with being cool? I mean, I know it's practically your lifestyle but many times it annoys the hell out of me."

He was silent for a moment. Maka was oblivious to many things.

But there were many things one should just be blunt about.

This was one of those things.

"I... Can't tell you yet..." He closed his eyes for a moment.

He wimped out.

Again.

"Oh... Okay."

The thing about not telling Maka things was the fact that no matter how strong she seemed, she was fragile and soft.

Especially when it came to him.

The mistake he made was opening his eyes.

He only saw the heartbroken Maka before giving up.

"I only think I'm cool because... Because I have the coolest meister any weapon can have." He breathed out.

She looked at him in shock for a while, then processed the words further. He thought she was cool. It was the only reason he was obsessed with being cool.

"Thank you Soul." She smiled warmly at him before kissing him on the cheek.

She then turned and walked away, humming the tune of the song he played earlier.

Soul shook his head with a laugh, his face red from thinking about the kiss. "What would I do without her?"
