"Oi, Sasuke! We need to find a spot to spend the night in soon, it's getting dark!" Naruto called out to his teammate, who was currently several paces ahead of him. Sasuke paused, turning to look at Naruto with a brow raised in annoyance.
"Are you tired already?" Sasuke's voice barely carried the derisiveness that his eyes clearly conveyed. Naruto crossed his arms with a resolute glare. After two days of being more or less trapped with the jerk, Naruto was fed up with Sasuke's attitude. Likewise, Sasuke's nerves were worn thin with Naruto's obnoxious personality.
"No! It's just getting cold! Look, snow is already starting to fall and if we don't find shelter we're gonna freeze!" Naruto gestured wildly to the left, where white, crystalline flakes were slowly beginning to drift onto the ground. Sasuke sighed heavily, shaking his head as if the weather could understand his disapproval towards it.
This was going to hinder their time to Suna to retrieve a scroll for Tsunade, which he'd hoped could have been completed within the week. Judging by the snow and wind now whipping through the trees howling like a lone wolf, their time was going to be slowed considerably. Sasuke felt the wind bite through the thin jacket he was wearing, though he repressed a shiver. He loathed the cold with every fiber of his being; stupid, useless weather.
Sasuke glanced around the earth below them with sharp eyes, trying to locate a suitable place to sleep for the night where they wouldn't end up frozen by morning. No one had anticipated an early snow storm, it hadn't been nearly this cold when they'd left the village. Needless to say, they were a little unprepared to handle the snow.
Sasuke took off again, leaving Naruto to shout after him and quickly try to keep up. Snow fell off the tree branches as they moved, falling to the already covered ground. Naruto smiled lightly, his breath creating a mist when he exhaled. He liked to watch the snowfall, it was always pretty.
Sasuke came to a halt, forcing to Naruto to skid to a stop so he wouldn't collide with the raven. "Do you know how to warn someone?!" Naruto exclaimed as he quickly caught his balance, he didn't desire to fall out of trees today. Sasuke's eyes scanned the ground, blatantly ignoring Naruto's dramatics. He was plenty used to them by now. Sasuke's eyes zeroed in on an opening the mountainside below them, he nodded towards it,
"There, there's a cave. It should suffice for the night." Sasuke muttered, focusing chakra to his legs and gracefully jumping down from the tree. Naruto followed suit, landing in a mound of snow and sending it pluming into the air in a dust of icy snowflakes. Sasuke rolled his eyes, shaking his head at the childish display while he walked towards the cave entrance. He cautiously paused, assuring that there were no traces of anyone else nearby before he entered the cave.
The cave didn't seem to go back very far, but it was more than enough to shelter them while letting them be sure that nothing was lurking somewhere inside. Naruto bounded into the cave, shaking snow from his blonde hair. Sasuke gave him a disapproving look, folding his arms. "Since you're so eager to play in the snow, I suggest you go back out and get us some wood for a fire."
Naruto's eyes widened at Sasuke's dry statement as he spluttered for a reply. "That's not fair!" Naruto exclaimed, he narrowed his blue eyes into a glare when Sasuke turned away from him with nothing but nonchalance.
"How is it unfair? I'm the one that has to start the fire, so you should go get the wood." Sasuke replied as he knelt onto the ground, setting his pack down. Naruto started to argue again, though he knew very well that arguing with Sasuke was akin to arguing with a brick wall; you wouldn't get anywhere no matter how loud you shouted. So, saving himself time and a hoarse voice, Naruto turned and stalked back outside. Sasuke glanced sideways as he heard Naruto cursing, a smirk spread over his lips in amusement at the annoyed blonde.
"Freaking snow, freaking wood, freaking stupid jerk that he is." Naruto mumbled complaints under his breath as he wrenched another dead branch from a tree, adding it to the pile he had gathered. He looked over it for a moment, nodding in satisfaction that it would get them through the night. He picked up the bundle of branches and trudged through the snow, back to the cave. The wind was picking up and it was getting much colder outside, hopefully the storm would die down by morning.
Naruto tossed the wood in front of Sasuke and gave the raven a pointed look. "You're welcome." Naruto said, though it was nothing but sarcasm since he knew better than to expect any sort of thanks from Sasuke. Said Uchiha barely even glanced at Naruto as he arranged the branches, quickly lighting them on fire in hopes that it would spread warmth through the icy air around them. Sasuke was already shivering, much to his chagrin. Winter was definitely his least favorite season.
Naruto opened his own pack, pulling out his blanket and wrapping it around himself. He was never going to trust Tsunade again; the old hag had been wrong about this weather and had insisted they wouldn't need anything but blankets to sleep on if they even needed to spend the night anywhere. Maybe she did it on purpose so we would suffer, sadistic old woman. Naruto thought to himself bitterly.
Sasuke had tightly pulled his own blanket around himself as well, though it did little to ward off the chill. He knew it was growing later into the night and the temperature was only going to drop lower, he highly doubted that either of them were going to get any sleep tonight. Sasuke glared into the fire, trying to will the flames to give off more heat. He stubbornly grit his teeth to prevent them from chattering as he trembled.
Naruto glanced towards his teammate and raised a brow as he watched Sasuke shiver and try to pull the blanket tighter around him. He was a little cold, sure, but Sasuke looked as if he were about to freeze to death. Watching the normally stoic, "nothing ever bothers me" Uchiha shaking like that was an amusing sight, but still…Naruto couldn't help but feel bad for him. "Oi, Sasuke…you want my blanket? You look like you're gonna catch hypothermia." Naruto said, barely succeeding in keeping a smirk off his face when Sasuke sent him a baleful look, though he did roll his eyes at Sasuke's reply.
"No. I'm fine. Worry about yourself." Sasuke muttered, he turned away from Naruto and lay down on the ground, hoping to high hell that he could somehow fall asleep, curled up in the blanket. He tried to somehow will the blanket to warm him up more, as the cold seemed to bite more so now. Damn snow. Sasuke thought bitterly as the wind howled outside like a wounded animal.
Naruto leaned his back against the cave wall, watching the snow swirl in pretty patterns outside. He cast a look at Sasuke, who was still shivering on the ground next to the fire. I should let him suffer for being such a stubborn prick. Naruto's thoughts were pointless, because even as he thought them, he couldn't stand seeing Sasuke in any sort of pain; unless he was the one inflicting it on him in battle, of course. Naruto stood up and silently padded over to Sasuke. He lay beside the raven and wrapped an arm around his waist, pulling Sasuke's back to his chest and covering his blanket over Sasuke as well.
Sasuke was willing to lay there in a frozen daze until morning. He started slightly when unexpected heat pressed against him and an arm hugged him around the waist, though he didn't struggle as Naruto pulled him back, because damn if Naruto wasn't warm! It was as if the blonde was radiating heat! Naruto slowly rubbed Sasuke's arms. God, the raven's skin was like ice! "Sasuke, if you were this cold you should've said something!" Naruto muttered in a chastising tone. Come on, it was usually Sasuke that did the reprimanding, Naruto wasn't missing out on this chance. Sasuke mumbled something that sounded suspiciously like "shut up" to Naruto, who only smirked in response.
Sasuke slowly turned around so he could rest his face against Naruto's shoulder. He shivered, though this time it was in pleasure as he felt Naruto's warm hands slide beneath his shirt and up his abdomen. "I should get you cold more often, you're much cuddlier." Naruto teased, leaning closer and capturing Sasuke's soft lips in a kiss. Sasuke returned it, deciding to ignore the previous comment in favor of pressing himself closer against Naruto to steal his body heat. Naruto internally smiled, comfortable as he held Sasuke against him. He had no problems keeping Sasuke warm.
Besides, as if he would ever miss a chance to baby his normally distant and apathetic lover.
AUTHORESS NOTE:
Honestly, my Sasuke is the one that gets cold really easy, but if I end up getting cold I will hoard every blanket my family owns. Everyone else is on their own, may the odds be ever in their favor.
I'm in a mood and I needed something romantic and sappy. My medication is making me so emotional and I just can't handle my OTP without some form of emotion sky-rocketing.
Eh, this kind of reminded me of when Kiara and I were in fifth grade. Our teacher called her Snowflake. He had a nickname for anyone.
No one fucking ask what he called me.
