Chapter 3: Troubled Waters
Raising an eyebrow, Hibari stared at the brunet who was so hell bent on securing his company. Although Hibari's curiosity often got the best of him, he would not get tangled up in this mess. As long as those monstrous beings didn't disturb his Namimori again, there wasn't a problem. "No."
"...No?" Tsuna asked with a pout. What in the world was he supposed to do now? "Why not?"
"It doesn't concern me." Tsuna groaned at the skylark's stubborn nature, but something told him he couldn't do anything without the tonfa freak, as much as he loathed admitting it. Tsuna needed Hibari.
"I suppose Hibari can't handle it and is feeling insecure in his abilities to complete such a simple request." Kyoko spoke, feigning innocence. Blinking, Enma glanced at Kyoko worriedly; did she have a death wish? The school idol twirled around and smiled at the ginger. This was no ordinary smile; the dark aura Kyoko emitted was nothing to be messed with.
"Um...yeah, t-that's right! Don't worry Tsuna even I could do a better job than him." Enma nearly turned into stone after receiving a menacing glare from Hibari, who was, at the moment, overflowing with negative energy. Shielding his face with his hands, Enma awaited his death. He lived a good life, he never got the chance to go on a date or have his first kiss but-
The sound of heels clicking against the tiled floor interrupted Enma's final thoughts. "Excuse me, what do you think you're doing?" A fierce voice spoke up. The trio glanced at the newcomer, acknowledging her presence. She stood tall and possessed a slender build. Ebony locks cascaded past her shoulders. Defiant, scarlet eyes bore into steel gray one's. Hibari didn't bother peer over at her but instead, kept eyes glued to Enma.
Tsuna glimpsed between the two hesitantly and asked, "U-um, that question is for who exactly...?"
The young woman then set her eyes on Tsuna and replied, "To the Disciplinary Head and Enma." Hibari stared at her blankly. She had no idea what he planned on doing to the boy who had so rudely insulted him (But surely, everyone in the room could sense Hibari's chagrin).
"I feel no need to explain myself," Hibari said, finally shifting his gaze towards her. "especially to you."
"Adel, what are you doing here?" Enma spoke up, a bit taken aback by her sudden entrance. He was certain none of the others would bother coming to the school at this hour.
"I could ask you the same thing." She sighed, giving the red head a look of disappointment. "I told you, it's too dangerous for you to be wandering around during a time like this." She exclaimed. "And I definitely don't want you around him." She spoke with venom. An index finger pointed at Tsuna.
"Do you have a problem with Tsu-kun?" Kyoko entered the conversation, her smile faltering just a bit. No one would speak to Tsuna like that while she was around. "Because if you do…you'll have to deal with me." The school idol gave a sick smile before tilting her head to the side.
"Kyoko-san, it's probably best if you stick your nose in your own business."
"What was that?"
"Hey, hey, guys calm down." Enma said, worried. He knew it was a bad move on his part but he never meant to get acquainted with Tsuna. The brunet didn't seem as bad as history makes his ancestors out to be. "I'll come home if that makes you happy, Adel." Enma nervously cracked his fingers. "But first," He turned to face Tsuna. "What happened to Yamamoto Takeshi?"
"This weird guy called Mukuro Rokudo kidnapped him and took him to Kokuyo Land."
"Oh, really now?" Adelheid gave a sly smile and redirected her gaze to Hibari. "And what are you going to do about it, Disciplinary Head?" Hibari simply gave her an annoyed look. Ever since she transferred here she's been on his case about how she's more fit to be in his position but the skylark paid her no mind.
"We were planning on barging in and saving him after I awakened or something."
"So you plan on following the stranger's orders, I expected the carnivore to bear his fangs, not to comply with the enemy." Adelheid gave Hibari a hardened look before saying, "Come on, Enma. We're leaving." She strutted off with Enma following closely behind.
"Ugh, the nerve of that girl, insulting you like that." Kyoko seethed. Sure, she was a complete sweetheart but when it came to others insulting those who had done nothing wrong, Kyoko would not stand for it. Hibari nodded in agreement, but only because Adelheid put a slight dent in his pride. He was not obeying Mukuro's orders. He obeyed no one but himself.
"Really, it's okay Kyoko." Tsuna rubbed his head a bit, disorientated. "But more importantly, Hibari will you come with me?"
"Tsu-kun, I thought we already established the fact that Hibari is scared and-"
"I'll go with you." Hibari grunted while glaring at Kyoko. The idol smiled in victory.
Tsuna had a lot to thank Kyoko for. She was the only reason why Hibari was escorting Tsuna to the library over in the next town. The skylark reluctantly agreed to depart the next morning (12 am on the dot), and there Tsuna was patiently waiting at one of the round lunch tables. He poked at his dry cereal, tiredly.
"Good morning!" Tsuna glanced up to see Kyoko, smiling that dazzling smile of hers. He returned the greeting and scooted over so she could sit next to him.
"So tell me again, why I can't come along with you two?" A pout tugged at her delicate, pink lips. Tsuna couldn't help but stare. "Tsu-kun?"
"Ah, um, well." He struggled for words, "Gokudera-kun told Yamamoto to make sure nothing happens to me but he went off somewhere and now Yamamoto has been abducted. I'm sure Gokudera-kun will return soon and I won't be here. I know he has a bad temper so I'm hoping you'll be able to calm him down and tell him everything in my absence."
"Hmmm, why am I stuck with such a boring job? I wanna investigate too!" She whined while twirling a lock of hair between her fingertips. Her hazel eyes took note of how Tsuna played with his food. "You'll never finish your food like that."
"Huh?"
Kyoko grasped Tsuna's hand and took the spoon into her own. She scooped up some of the cereal and brought it to the brunet's mouth. "Say ahhh."
"Herbivore, can't you feed yourself?"
"Oh, looks like Hibari's here." The idol grinned, securing the spoon in the small bowl of cereal. "I'm sure you two will have fun." She waved as Tsuna stood from his seat. Tsuna was sure he could never have fun with Hibari being a constant threat to his wellbeing.
Tsuna trailed behind Hibari, struggling to keep up with his long strides as they walked across the parking lot. "So how are we getting there?" Tsuna didn't receive an answer and continued to follow the skylark until he halted. There in front of them was a sleek, black motorcycle. "Oh." Tsuna paled.
"By the way, you just left all those students in there with no one in charge."
"The female herbivore that is fond of you"
"Kyoko? She's in charge?"
"Until Kusakabe shows up."
"Why him?"
"Herbivore." That was Tsuna's queue to shut his mouth but so many questions were plaguing the brunet's mind he couldn't help but continue his assault of questions.
"You do have helmets right?"
"…No."
"Are you crazy?"
"…No."
"Why-"
"Finish that question and you'll be walking." Tsuna immediately shut his trap and patiently waited for Hibari to get everything ready. Hibari nonchalantly signaled Tsuna to hop on but Tsuna was…confused. Was he supposed to wrap his arms around Hibari while they were riding? If he did that he'd certainly earn a blow or two.
Starting up the motorcycle, Hibari cast Tsuna a bemused look. The brunet was clutching to the sides of the bike with dear life. "If you plan on dying, don't do it while I'm driving. Put your arms in the right place." Hesitantly, Tsuna followed Hibari's instructions and wrapped his arms around the skylark's mid-section. And with that they were off.
Less than five minutes into the ride, Tsuna was hollering at the top of his lungs. "Why did I do this to myself? Let me off, let me off!"
"Herbivore if you don't shut up, I swear."
"B-but-"
"Herbivore." Hibari would narrow his eyes at the brunet right this second but he couldn't take his eyes off of the road. "Just bear with it for a while." He hated this too; he didn't like being so close with Tsuna. He just couldn't wait to reach the library that was so conveniently located far away. Well it wasn't that far. It just seemed like it. That's what happens when you have a blubbering idiot behind you.
Now that morning had finally arrived Gokudera was free to do as he pleased. Gokudera specifically followed Bianchi's instructions and left at 12 am, which was basically morning.
He left the headquarters building and walked towards the school. "Damn Reborn, he did this just to piss me off!" Irritated, the albino fished out a cigarette from his pocket and promptly lit it. "Fuck that guy…" Gokudera muttered as he blew out a puff of smoke.
"Tch." Gokudera could only ponder why such a drastic event had to occur in his lifetime. Caught up in his musings, the delinquent's eye did not catch the duo that shuffled past him as he neared Namimori High. The duo scrutinized him with wary eyes before shifting their attention back to what they were doing.
"That's Gokudera-kun right? Should we tell him?"
"He's affiliated with Vongola, let us not approach him for now."
"Whatever, just gotta pick up this loser and bring him back to Reborn. Hopefully Yamamoto didn't screw up."Gokudera muttered. If only he knew, poor fellow.
He entered the school and sauntered into the cafeteria. Aquamarine hues scanned the area but failed to lock on to the two individuals he was looking for. "Shit."
"Oh Gokudera-kun" Kyoko popped into his line of sight. "I've been expecting you." She said while pushing a lock of hair behind her ears
"What do you want?" He grunted, he was not in the mood to deal with fangirls.
"Tsuna's gone." Kyoko placed a finger on her chin while staring at the delinquent curiously.
Okay, okay! Gokudera took anger management classes and in situations like these he was told to count until he calmed down. "One…two…three…"
"Oh, and Yamamoto's been kidnapped!"
Gokudera heard what she said in the midst of his counting and apparently the number that comes after three is, "FUCK!"
A/N
Nothing much going on in this chappie, but hey, I updated! This is the shortest chapter so far. This chapter was supposed to end farther ahead but I figured this was a good place to end. Once again I apologize for my mediocre writing. It's been roughly a year since I uploaded this story. –Throws Confetti-
I am approaching my senior year of highschool and I'm sure it's gonna be hella hectic but summer is here for now and instead of promising frequent updates I'll vow to write at least 200 words per day. I'll focus more on this story since, –Looks at all the people on the alert list who don't review- it's the most popular one.
Until next time, cheers!
