Chapter 3 - A Plan

Morrigan's POV

Seven days, we endured seven days of pure torture without prevail. We'd been sliced, slashed, beaten, whipped, burnt, chocked, starved, dehydrated, sleep deprived, and emotionally abused. We hung by the knot at the end of our ropes. It was noon on the seventh day when I decided we couldn't wait to be recued in precaution to not fuck up Carl's father's plan. It was time to make our own. Carl had been dozing off in the few minutes we had peace, but I had been deciding how to word what I wanted to say. I haven't spoken to other people in three years, I always knew what I meant but explaining it to others was the problem.

"Carl, don't sleep yet."

"Uagh, what? This is one of the few times we have peace, we should take the opportunity to get some rest."

"Carl, you didn't want to escape because you believed your father would come but it's been a week. If we stay any longer we will die. We need a plan, and I have one."

"A plan? What kind of plan?" He asked, both intrigued and skeptical.

"It's extremely risky, and if it doesn't work, we could be killed. But one more day of this and our death is set in stone." I answered honestly.

"I'm in, if it means we could get out of here, then I'm all for it."

"Okay, just before they come in, I'm going to start screaming bloody murder. I will start screaming and trashing and looking like I'm going to kill you. You have to look deathly afraid, like this is the scariest shit you have ever seen. If my plan works, they will untie me and leave me to kill you. If we're lucky, they'll leave me a weapon of two. When they leave me to kill you, we spring into action. Ill untie you, all while making it seem like I'm trying to kill you. We can escape out the window, and we run. We run as far as possible and as fast as possible."

"We're weak, they might catch us. We'll have to save all our energy now if we want to pull this off. We have to try, I know the way back, just follow me." He answered and I nodded.

It wasn't until late that night, maybe around eight P.M., that we heard the solders begin to return.

"Gah- gah- you piece of shit. I'll kill you. I'll fucking kill you, cunt. I swear I'll kill you!" I screamed at the top of my lungs, trashing towards Carl.

The solders came rushing in, curious about the situation.

"I'll kill you! I'll kill you. You'll pay. I swear I will slit your throats so deep I'll see you spine. I'll eat your intestines and feed your dick to walkers. You'll be begging for mercy. They said you'd do this. They said! I should have listened but I didn't Ha, haha. Now I hear them clearly, you'll die. Death calls your name, Carl Grimes. I'll kill you, I'll kill you!" I screamed, thrashing and pulling against my restraints as hard as I could, no matter the pain.

"How 'bout it boys, let the rabid bitch kill this cocksucker?" The leader asked which caused a roar of agreement from the others. He dropped the duffle bag, the duffle bag, on the table and turned to his men.

"Let's leave her to it then. Men, outside." He roared and they quickly filed out after untying me, the stench of alcohol followed them.

"Let's go, now." I whispered.

I rushed towards the duffle bag and pulled out the first knife handle my hands found.

"You little bitch, thought you could fool us, us! We are smarter than you. Stronger than you." I screamed cutting his restraints, careful about the puffy rope burns.

"Very convincing." He whispered back, a hint of fear in his eyes.

"Had practice. Now start screaming." I said, smirk on my face.

"No, please stop! We were friends!" He screamed, smirking back.

I grabbed the bag's zipper and fully opened it. I immediately saw a gun and my blood ran cold.

"They were coming to put us down like dogs." I whispered, harsh from fear.

"You were never our friend. Only one's friends but against two's. I hope you like the taste of flesh you fucker." I screamed, grabbing the gun and a magazine. Carl grabbed the other hunting knife and we climbed on top of the table.

We pushed the window open, and I stuck a knife in the jam to hold it open.

"On three." I whispered as I putt my legs through and Carl followed my footsteps.

"Three... two... one." I whispered harshly, and we fell the short distance to the ground. I grabbed the knife on the way down, causing the window to slam shut. We froze at the sound and waited to see if the men had heard it.

"She kill him yet?" One man asked.

"Let's check." Another said, and we ran for it.

We ran as far as our legs would go and when we felt we were a good ways away, we turned right and ran some more. All in hopes to find the prison. But eventually, the adrenaline from our escape began to wear off, and the affects of our torture caught up to us. Our bodies were sore and in extreme levels of pain.

"Carl, how far off are we. It's getting too dark, we'll have to stop soon."

"I can't tell in the dark." He answered weakly, his body starting to give out on him.

Our running turned into jogging, which evolved into walking. We walked for what seemed like hours until we heard a twig snap a few feet away from us.

"What was that." I said pulling out my knife, not wanting to revel us with the sound of a gunshot.

All of a sudden loud moans of a variety of pitches were heard. I squinted in front of me and the outline of at least fifty walkers came into view.

"It's a herd, a big one. Hurry, climb into a tree. We're too weak to fight them all off." I yelled and pushed him towards the closest tree roughly.

I kicked the closest walker in the thigh which caused it's leg to snap, then stabbed my knife into the rotting scalp. I killed the first few walkers until Carl was in the tree, then I began climbing it myself.

"Morge hurry, they're coming too quickly." Carl yelled, holding out his hand.

I grabbed it and he began pulling me up when I felt a cold hand grip my calf.

"No! Let go you fucker!" I yelled and kicked wildly until my foot met the squishy scalp.

I scurried up the tree until the walkers couldn't reach either of us.

"We'll just have to wait until they're gone, or at least far enough for us to run." Carl said feebly.

"The sun will be rising soon. Once it does we can get out of here. 'Til then, we have to wait." I answered shortly.

"Morge, what happens when we get to the prison?" He asked, looking me in the eyes for any type of answer. For some reason we can read each others eyes like a book.

"I'll take you back to your family, then I leave. Go back to my life." I answered coldly.

Honestly, I didn't want to leave Carl. I hadn't had a friend my age in a long time. Finally after so much time, I found someone who understood me even though I was a bit crazy. He didn't think I was weird, he just accepted it. But I couldn't risk either of us getting hurt. Everyone I love died and I'm left heartbroken. I couldn't let that happen to either of us, he had people who needed him and it would be my fault if I took that from them.

"That's not living. You're just surviving, out there, you'll either succumb to your wounds or lose your mind. The prison is big enough for you to joins the group. You can start living again." He retorted, his voice slightly angry.

"Everyone I come close to dies, it's just a fact of my life. You have people who need you, I don't. I'm just protecting you and your group." I snapped at him but his eyes don't leave my own.

"What about you? You try protecting everyone else but what about you. You're my friend, I don't have anyone. I have no friends, you're my only friend. Stay with us, we can all protect each other." He retorted, rendering me speechless.

He... he could be right. But I don't know these people. I don't know what they will think of me or what I of them. It could go horrible.

I was brought out of my train of thought by the pink and orange rays of light from the sunrise. The blackened sky slowly became a mix of all warm colors. The walkers slowly dispersed. Carl is right, I can't keep running from heartbreak. I have to stop merely surviving and start living.

"Let's get ourselves back to the prison" I said as cold and harsh as usual, but my eyes are soft and my mouth was slightly turned up.
