Happy Beginnings: Calm

She laid her head back onto the soft bed of grass to look up at the stars. The sun had long but faded into a glowing moon, and everyone was indoors, asleep. This was her favorite time of day though, and after traveling the world for almost a year, often having to go to bed early to rise before dawn, she had made a promise to herself that she would try to spend her nights in peace after this war was won. After all these years of caring and worrying she needed some peace.

Even if it was just for a hour or so in the dead of night.

She inhaled. Taking in the sweetness of the rose garden that cornered her. It was truly beautiful in Ba Sing Se. She had always believed so subconsciously, but not until returning to the magnificent city had she actually thought the words themselves. She could now take in her surroundings for all their worth, and process them into her head.

In fact she had been able to process a lot more things now that the world was at peace; and in truth, that put her at peace. She had never felt so relaxed in her life, and she was the most tense person she knew.

She closed her ocean eyes, and began to let her ears take the place of her eyes. Not only did Ba Sing Se look wonderful, but come to find out, it sounded just as beautiful. Crickets, and birds, and frogs all sang in an orchestra of sounds. A wonderful lullaby that could rock her to sleep any night. However, there was one exceptional sound that sung sweeter over the others. Flawless was the only word that could even begin to describe it.

"Hi." She fluttered her eyes open, smiling. What a sight for sore eyes. He was just as handsome as he sounded.

Her boyfriend sat to her side with his legs crisscrossed. He smiled down at her. If it were anyone else she would of tensed up, reverting back to her normal self, but if someone understood, and wanted peace more than her it was Aang. "Hi." She responded simply back with a little giggle that made him blush slightly.

Instead of saying anything more, he slowly took a piece of her fanned out hair, and began twist it between his fingers. She sighed in contentment; closing her eyes once more.

This went of for several minutes, until there was not a single strand of hair left on her head for him to occupy himself with. "Katara?"

"Hmm?" She laid there still like she had minutes prior.

"Are you happy?" He asked calmly. It was quite odd. There was no pressure or curiosity like questions usually posed. It was just simple. It deserved a simple answer.

"Very." Her eyes opened. They shined with truth.

Just like she had never been so calm in her life, she had also never been so happy.
