Birdcry poked her head into the apprentices den and smiled. Today was her first day out with her new apprentice!
"Spiritpaw" She called softley to him. As quick as a flash, he was by her side.
"Where are we going, Birdcry?"
"Lets go work on hunting." Birdcry decided, and flicked her long, fluffy tail in excitement.
The silver tabbycrouched with his legs in a jumble and his tail as straight as a stick.
"Spiritpaw, spread out your legs and lower your tail." Spiritpaw's deep amber eyes met hers and she was filled with strange feeling. What? Oh, please no. No no n-
"Birdcry?" He interrupted her thoghts. "Am I doing it right?" Birdcry checked his stance and his tail.
"Way better, now hunt that leaf there." Spiritpaw nodded before swiftly pouncing on the leaf and giving it a quick nip. "Good! Now try it on something real." Spiritpaw tasted the air and began stalking. Several minutes later, he had a mouse in his jaws.
"What a fast learner! The elders won't be hungry tonight!" Pride glinted in his eyes and they walked back to camp.
When they got back to camp, Spiritpaw settled in next to the other apprentices.
"Great catch!" commented Icepaw. "I learned what burdock was used for!"
"Well, I learned battle moves!" Mistpaw boasted.
Birdcry chuckled as they argued and a deep voice whispered in her. "We need to talk. Cherry tree. Moonrise. Tonight." bBirdcry whipped around, but no one was there. She sighed and strode into the nursery.
"Soulfog?"
"Mmm?"
"What did you do when you discovered Swallowstride liked you?"
"Well, I talked to him, and was happy to be with him in my free-time. Why?"
"N-no reason. Did any other toms like you?"
"Yes, but I didn't like him back."
"What did you do?"
"I simply told him."
"Oh-okay... Thanks, Soulfog!"
"Anytime!" Soulfog called after her as she ran out the nursery.
So I've made my decision. I'm going.
