ADAM'S P.O.V
What did this mean? Had she left Warren? For me? Probably not, she just keeps running back to him. Not this time, I wouldn't let her. I didn't want her to get hurt again, she didn't deserve it. But for that night, at least, everything was perfect.
I don't know how she could sleep after everything that had just happened. I couldn't. I was staying on the sofa, she was in my bed. It had taken a lot of convincing but she finally allowed me to sacrifice my bed for her. I'd given her a tender kiss goodnight and sat with her as she fell asleep, I think it made her feel safe to have me there. Once she had dozed off, I went and lay on the sofa, closing my eyes every so often but I never fully falling asleep. I checked the alarm clock on the desk: 02.46.
My eyes were shut and I was breathing heavily when I heard a small, sweet, cautious voice in my ear: "Adam?". It was dark but I could make out Kirsty's figure in front of me. I sighed.
"Sorry – I – did I wake you?" She stuttered. She sounded hurt.
"No – no, sorry" I stumbled to find the lamp on the desk. Once it was on, I could see her face, her perfect, beautiful face… with a side of blood. I must have looked shocked;
"Sorry – I must have… caught it." Her lip was bleeding again and she looked truly sorry about it; her chocolate-brown eyes were glistening with a hint of tears and the innocence on her face accompanied by the bruises suddenly made me realise just how beaten up she was from the other night. My tiredness vanished and I was at her side in a second. I dabbed her cut gently with a wet tissue and kissed it sweetly better.
"There's just one more thing," She looked so guilty, I didn't understand. "There's some blood on the pillow..."
"You're so daft." I smiled softly.
"I'm sorry." She smiled back and shrugged her shoulders tiredly.
"You're sorry for bleeding?" She gave a small giggle and smiled widely. It turned into a yawn and she rubbed her eyes.
"Thank you," She sighed. "For everything."
I said nothing but picked her up, she was so light, she felt almost weak. Straight away, she laid her head on my shoulder and yawned again as I carried her back through to the bedroom. She got into bed, I chucked the bloody pillow on the floor, too tired to care, and brought the duvet up over her. I went to the door and turned back, "Night." She didn't answer, she seemed to be pondering something, I went to leave the room.
"Adam - " She called quietly, almost dreamily. I turned back. "Stay… please." I tried not to make it obvious but I was smiling ear to ear. We lay there, my arm wrapped tightly around her, her head resting on my chest and our legs crossed together. It felt perfect.
KIRSTY'S P.O.V.
I awoke before Adam and looked up at him. It was like a dream come true, waking up next to him instead of Warren. I sat up slowly, trying not to wake him but it didn't work. He smiled before his eyes were even open.
"Morning, Beautiful." He yawned.
"I look terrible." I was trying to tame my hair in the mirror again. He came up behind me, placed his hands on my hips and rested his chin on my shoulder.
"Yeah, you're right you do need a shower." He joked, smiled and went to kiss me on the cheek. I pushed his hands away and stepped back before he could, playfully, and threw a pillow at him on my way to the bathroom.
"Oh, sugar!" I shouted to him. "I need to go pick Nita up from her mate's… where's my mobile?"
"On the desk in the living room." He called.
I found it:
21 missed calls
9 unread messages
I scrolled through them; one message and one call were from Nita. The rest were from Warren. The text messages pretty much all said the same thing and they were close enough death threats. Adam walked in.
"What's up? You look worried."
"Huh…? Oh, nothing." I continued to stare at my phone.
"Oh, come on, Kirsty, you're literally biting your finger nails."
I hesitated. Adam looked concerned. I knew if I told him the truth he would only get even more involved. I needed to see Warren, come to some arrangements. "I've got to go."
"Kirsty, don't. I know what you're thinking. You can't go back to him. Not now." He stepped closer, as if trying to block my exit.
"I have to, Adam. I've … got to go get Nita." I lied. "We'll come straight back." I promised.
He screwed up his face and watched me get into my car in disbelief. " Please, let me come with you."
"I'm only going to get Nita."
"Kirsty, I'm not an idiot. You're going to see him. He'll trick you, Kirsty. He'll play mind games on you. Please-" He was practically begging.
"Adam, I-"
"Kirsty! Please! You want what's best for Nita, he's not it! A man who abuses his wife is only a stone's throw away from a man who abuses his daughter!" Adam was suddenly different. He was frustrated and impatient and as he brought his hand down on the roof of the car I jumped and flinched to protect myself again. I knew he'd noticed and I was trying to hold back my emotions, but I could feel my heartbeat in my chest.
"Don't you see what he's done to you? I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you, Kirsty, but I don't want you going back to him. He's hurt you so much, emotionally is bad enough but physically is just – just…" He sighed. I knew he wasn't going to take 'no' for an answer. He placed his hand on my cheek so gently. He didn't want me to be afraid of his touch. "If you're going to see him, let me come. I couldn't live with myself if he hurt you again."
I held my hands out in front of me. They were shaking like there was no tomorrow. I didn't say a word, I didn't even look at him but I shifted over to the passenger's seat. Adam got in and revved the engine.
"Speed freak." I sighed, giving him a sideways glance. He smiled, stroked the hair out of my eyes and kissed me on the cheek.
