Last Chapter:

"But 'Mione, how am I supposed to be mean now?" Sirius whined.

Hermione's sniggers stopped at the familiar nickname, "Wh-what did you just call me?"

"Mione, I thought you needed a nickname and it just fit, is something wrong?" He asked uncertainly.

"No, it just reminded me of something. Come on Sirius, who is your victim?" Abruptly changing the topic.

"Um… The lovely Lily Evans, truth or dare?"

"Truth… there is absolutely no way I am trusting you with a dare, even if you have to do it as well!"

"Well then, shall I start of nice? Nah! Do you currently have a crush on someone?" He smirked, winking in her direction adding: "You can tell me if it is me love, I won't mind."

"No, it is not you! I'll have you know that I have higher standards than that!" Lily shrieked.

"What? So our Jamesy here then" Sirius grinned.

"That is none of your business and to answer your question I do have a crush on someone" Lily said hotly.

The train roared as it speed along the track, increasing it's speed as the tension in the compartment became thicker.

"Truth or dare Hermione?" Lily said directing all the curious glances from her to Hermione.

"Um… truth?" Hermione asked uncertainly.

"Why is everyone picking truth?" James asked exasperatedly.

"Only two people have picked truth, and only three people have been asked! Continue Lily." Remus said.

"Hermione... do you… um… What's a good truth for someone that you know nothing about?" Lily asked the remaining marauders.

"Start simple ; ask her what her favourite colour is" Sirius supplied.

"Okay, Hermione what is your favourite colour?" Lily asked dramatically serious, failing an attempt to raise one of her eyebrows questioningly. Laughter rang through the compartment and filled the corridor as Lily stopped what she was doing, now looking confused.

"Lily, please don't ever do that again" Hermione gasped out through her laughter.

"Do what?" She asked.

Hermione delicately raised one eyebrow, both answering Lily's question and saying 'do you really need to ask'.

"Anyways, my favourite colour is gold. James, truth or dare, or shall we just skip to dare after all your complaints?"

"I'm no chicken! Hit me with your best shot."

Hermione smirked "I dare you to only speak in dramatic 'one liners' for the rest of the day."

"What?" James spluttered.

"You know, 'I'll be back' kinda stuff." Hermione laughed.

"It shall be done." James silenced the hysterical answer. "Sirius, you are the chosen one. "

"Well then… Dare!" Sirius exclaimed.

"Dress in a tutu for the rest of the day and ask to make a speech after the first years have been sorted."

"Okay!" Sirius hyped as he transformed his pants into a sparkly, bright pink tutu. "Hermione, truth or dare?"

"Dare."

Sirius stood from his seat, slinging his robe over his shoulder, only to have it fall down again.

"I dare you and I to sing a song for the first years." Sirius announced after a dramatic, anticipating silence.

Hermione rose from her seat, acting regal. "Sir Sirius, shall we go and practise?"

"Of course milady." Offering his arm to Hermione, the pair skipped out of the room.

"I guess we're done with the game now." James assumed.

"Nah, just because they left doesn't mean we have to stop." Lily said as she shot James a shy smile.

With Sirius and Hermione

Breathless Sirius and Hermione panted their way into an empty compartment. During their skipping search for a compartment they found that a) looking was tiring, b) they didn't like looking, c) skipping is definitely exercise and d) the only empty compartments were at the other end of the train.

"So… what song would you like to do?" Sirius asked as he sat across from Hermione. "Do you know Dancing Queen." He continued.

"Yea, my parents sent me the lyrics for my birthday last year. Do you want to sing that?" Hermione said, thinking back to her last birthday.

Flashback

Hermione sat in the Great Hall surrounded by the chattering students. Silently reading the Daily Prophet while waiting for Harry, Ron and Ginny to show.

Hermione became immersed in the reports of what was happening in the outside world that she only noticed Harry, Ron and Ginny when the seventh exaggerated cough sounded.

"Wha-what?" Hermione asked

"Happy birthday!"The trio sitting across from her exclaimed loudly in unison.

Three gifts were pushed towards her.

"You shouldn't have." Hermione said, reaching for the gifts anyway.

First was a small, square, flat box from Harry, inside was a delicate charm bracelet that held multiple charms representing their life at Hogwarts and all the adventures. Reaching across the table Harry was tugged into a bone crushing hug.

"Thank you Harry, it's beautiful." Tears leaked out of Hermione's eyes, expressing the beauty and feelings that the bracelet gave her more than any words could.

Ron's gift was next, predictably it was a book about Quidditch, everyone had a laugh about Hermione being the one to read it. Ginny had given Hermione a scrapbook of her time at Hogwarts and the Burrow.

"I love it Ginny."

"Its from the whole family." She said modestly.

Hermione sat appreciating the gifts she was given as the owl post arrived, dropping two letters in front of her.

Reaching out, gently Hermione picked up the first letter.

"Its from the Ministry of Magic, wonder what they want?" Hermione questioned, getting three shrugs in response.

Miss Granger,

It is the ministry's honour to congratulate you on your 17th birthday. You are now a witch of legal age, the trace has been removed from you and your wand. Please remember to be responsible with magic, keep in mind the statute of secrecy and don't use magic in the muggle world.
Once again congratulations on your coming of age.

Ministry of Magic

"I'm free of the trace!" Hermione cheered, now reaching for the second letter she assumed to be from her parents.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY HERMIONE!
It is still sad that we can't be with you on your birthday but we know that you will have a brilliant birthday with your friends at Hogwarts.
We still remember the first letter you sent us, how you said that you had no friends and would never be able to make any with the people at Hogwarts, look how that has changed.
There is a very special present waiting for you when you get home, heres a hint its a car! As we can't send that over to you we have simply enclosed the lyrics to one of your favourite songs, Dancing Queen, we feel that it is quite appropriate for the occasion.
Have a happy birthday and write us soon.

Love,
Mum and Dad

The lyrics fell out of the envelope, making Hermione smile and play the song in her head.
