So this is love chapter 4
Daniel forced himself to concentrate. Princes did not lose control. Princes were calm and concise role models. Still, it was bloody hard. Daniel could see his fingers clutching the chair going white with the effort. His eyes were trained on the man pacing in front of him. Watching like a hawk.
Neither spoke. The seconds just ticked passed both of them unwilling to unleash the white-hot anger flaring within. How could he have said that? The man had spent months, years even planning the moment his son would settle down, and now that he had finally chosen someone he loved. The king just turned around and said no, in a room full of kingdom officials no less.
Daniel tore his eyes away from the pacing figure afraid that if someone did not address this silence and offer him some kind of explanation soon he was going to be forced to break one of his father's beloved antique vases. And that would get him nowhere fast.
It was at that moment that the King cleared his throat, demanding Daniel's attention. His father faced him with tired grey eyes that looked as if they had aged a hundred years. Daniel found himself idly wondering, when it was the pump man last took a break from the demands of the kingdom. He was so committed to his people each and every one of them, he never regarded any person as less or more because of where they were ranked, except apparently Cinderella. The thought caused the boiling heat sensation to fill the Prince once more, the fire giving him the nerve to voice the questions that had been pounding though his head for the last hour.
"Just explain what's going on right now because I sure as hell would like to know!" Daniel demanded, his clipped voice earning him a stern warning look from his father, he didn't care all he wanted was answers and fast.
"As I'm sure you know Leirie is on the verge of war," the King begun, slowly perching himself on the edge of his huge office desk "and as you know during these tough times its imperative that we think logically about the alliances we make and the most simple way to make them is though marriage."
Daniel couldn't believe what he was hearing! Only a month ago the King was rejecting any offers made by fathers of princesses in neighboring kingdoms saying that the future Queen would be from only Leirie!
"But you said!" Daniel contradicted now standing at least a foot taller than his father.
"I know what I said, this is what I'm saying Now!" the King erupted, both their tempers reaching peak, both taking part in some sort of stand off, breathing deeply not willing to back down.
It was Daniel who finally broke eyes contact. He needed to leave; he needed to get out of that room away from everything so he could get his head strait and his emotions under control.
He felt his fathers eyes still trained on his back as he stormed off but he didn't care, he just kept walking having no idea of what to make of that whole conversation. His father never contradicted himself, it was highly doubtful that he would just start now. Having no place in particular to be, Daniel felt himself gravitate toward the room that had only been occupied yesterday. Of one thing he was certain, as long as he had anything to do with it that room would not be empty any time soon.
The king stared at the spot his son had just vacated and sighed. This was not going to be easy. Daniel was generally calm and quite easygoing, but ever since he was a small boy if there was anything he wanted or believed in he wouldn't back down until he got it. He was like that full of perseverance and hope. The King suspected that this time would be no different.
Be he wouldn't let this happen, not this time.
The king sighed, rubbing the migraine threatening to take over as he heaved himself into the chair. He was getting old, too fail, fragile to carry on running a Kingdom. Soon his job would be his son's, he would have to run it as a just, kind king as those before him had been.
The King looked up at Susanna smiling down at him, her brown painted eyes held his with all their mighty wisdom. She would know what to do at a time like this. There was not a day that he didn't think of what life would be if she were still here, maybe he wouldn't have made half as many mistakes. The mistakes he was sure his son would make, he would properly make nearly all of them, and he needed to, he needed to learn how to do things just like he had done before. He looked back up at his beautiful wife, tears threatening to overflow from the memories.
Daniel could make all the mistakes in the world, but not that one. He was determined to prevent him from making that mistake. He had thought that getting a girl locally would have prevented it. However when the blonde has stepped into the room, when he saw his son gravitating so naturally toward her he knew. He could all but see it happening again. He could see history repeating himself.
And that was something had to stop at all costs. He couldn't let his son, his only precious son go though what he had gone through.
Thick heavy clouds gathered across the sky, threatening to release their content at any given moment, truly marking the end of a gorgeous summer. With the royal wedding celebrations well and truly over, the people of Leirie prepared for what they were sure to be a brutal winter.
All except one. Hannah Regimound, the bakers daughter, had taken a moment while the rest of the kingdom slaved away to slip out of her fathers shop, quietly through the back door and was now making her way though the kingdom, crawling through the sharp shrubbery surrounding it's illustrious palace.
The young girl, still too naïve to question the reason ladies such as herself did not wonder alone, craved the thrill of her adventures. To her the adrenaline a drug, the danger her medicine to the horrors life dished her.
Hannah continued her journey fast paced through the net of bushes, stopping only when the towing palace wall blocked her path. She had finally reached her destination. Hitching her long checked skirt into her briefs the girl set to work, trying to find a space in the worn brick to place her hands and feet. Having finally found a crevice that she deemed suitable she started to heave her self up.
The girls angular face broke into a large grin as she landed with a thump on the other side of the palace wall, pride at her achievement swelled within her slim body. The feeling was short lived however having been disrupted by the unmistakable cough.
Hannah turned slowly to face her capturer, an icy cold fear replacing the warmth from before as she took in the two large palace guards looming in front of her.
The taller of the two spoke first, his voice rough and mocking sent shivers down Hannah's spine "Well, Well, Well I do believe we've caught ourselves a wonderin' beauty here Pete."
The second man, Pete, leered in response his eyes hungry, for what? Hannah could only guess "Sure does, doesin it Sam. Wonder what the new King would think about trespassers creeping about 'is lawn?"
The two men slowly started advancing forcing the girl to retreat, it wasn't until her back hit the brick did she realise she was trapped, terror dousing her body at the two men, still speaking in front of her.
"Well what the king doesn't know can't hurt 'er, right?" the Pete character continued
"Of course not mate," Sam agreed his voice thick with mockery "we could take care of 'er, and he don't even have to know."
The last thing Hannah saw was the wild grins spreading larger on their faces.
A/N: Hi there, yes I know confusing to the MAX chapter! It is now that the questions start being asked.
This I count as more of a filler chapter to help you understand things as the plot thickens. Don't worry EVERYTHING WILL MAKE SENSE SOON!
Just quickly – Dear Splatterson if you dislike my story that much please feel free to stop reading it, no one is forcing you to continue. Also I will be using the fairy godmother in my story but not at the moment she will only appear in later chapters (sorry if this disappoints you). If you could kindly stop spamming me that would be highly appreciated :D
On a lighter note, despite its confusingness please tell me what you think of the story and this chapter! Do you like it written this way or the old way (remember you have some control over the story and if you like it written the old way, I have no problems converting back!)
Thank you all so very much Lore x
