Chapter 4: Mess Hall
After returning from Atlantis, Kye greets the girls she met in the locker room.

Once I landed at Pandora Airbase, I wondered around for a bit looking for that young pilot I met in the locker room. I found her at Mess with the other two girls from the locker room and snuck up on them. I was about to greet them, but their conversation was interesting.
"Don't you think the President is hot?" one said.
"God yes," the pilot girl replied. "And she wants to have a mock battle with me!"
The third girl sitting across from them saw me and got quiet. I put my finger to my mouth and kept listening.
The pilot girl continued, "Do you think she might be bi? I'm getting excited just thinking about it."
The first girl looked over at the pilot, "You really want to sleep with the President?"
"Oh god, if I could. Somebody like me would never get that chance."
"You shouldn't-" she stopped mid sentence having noticed me.
I continued in her place, "Maybe if you can beat me, we could arrange something."
The pilot girl froze in place. The third girl waved her hand in front of the pilot's face. "Jess?"
"Jessica?" The first girl poked Jessica's face.
"I think you broke her."
I smacked the back of her head with my right hand. Jessica jumped up from her seat and bowed to me.
"Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry!" she said. "That was very inappropriate and I-"
"Attention!" I said. All three were very quick to stand at attention. "What you were talking about is very inappropriate and unbecoming of a Paragon Officer, especially in Mess." I could tell they were nervous now. "But I don't care. As you were." I sat down next to Jessica. "So, Miss Jessica... you were saying?"
"Uh... I..." she fumbled. "It's too embarrassing."
"Go on. You were saying somebody like you would never get a chance to sleep with me. What was next?" I was staring right at the girl, but she couldn't meet my gaze.
"I'm sorry, Sir, I can't! I don't want to upset you."
"Upset me? Ha. I have a lover who's given me five kids, and had a husband whom I was married to for seven years. You think you can tell me something dirty that would surprise me?"
"Well, when you put it like that..."
"Come on, tell me. What would you do to me?"
"Kye!" a familiar voice shouted from right behind me. I was so surprised that I jumped up and over the table with my hands out ready to fight.
"Holy shit," the three girls said in tandem.
I saw the source of the voice and hid behind the third girl.
"Stop torturing the poor girl," Nagase said. "You're gonna give her an anxiety attack."
"But she was complimenting me."
"And you respond to that by messing with her?"
"I... plead the fifth."
"We're not in Osea."
"Paragon has the right to remain silent, too! I just don't know what part of the law says that. I'm Osean dammit!"
"Tangent."
We both sat down. "Anyway..."
"So what's going on?"
"I'm having a mock battle with Miss Jessica here. I'm sorry I don't know your names."
"Second Lieutenant Whitney Barnes."
"Second Lieutenant Jessica White."
"Second Lieutenant Rebekah Morris."
I nodded. "Pleased to meet you, girls. I'm Lieutenant Colonel Kye Akari and this is Captain Kei Nagase."
"President Kye Akari," Nagase corrected.
"Look, my military rank matters! I didn't retire when I accepted Hatsumi's job."
"Yes, yes. So, Lieutenant White, you're having a mock battle with Kye?"
"Yes, Ma'am, as per her request."
"A little tip. I've been her wingman for years. I know how she works. You're screwed."
"Nice choice of words, Nagase," I said, "considering what were just discussing moments ago."
She raised her eyebrow at me.
"To answer your question from earlier, Jessica, I technically am bi, but only for one woman. I hope I didn't scare you girls. I was just going along with the fun, I meant nothing by it. While I'm not interested in anything sexual, I wouldn't mind having a girl's night out with the three of you sometime, assuming you can tolerate those two looking over our shoulders." I pointed at my agents near the door.
"Oh, no, of course," Whitney said. "You're the President, we'd expect nothing less."
"And how about this?" I continued. "All three of you are pilots, so why not have a three on one match? I'd like Nagase to join us, but..."
"Doctor's orders," Nagase said. "I was shot at the DMF and haven't fully recovered, or so the doctor says." She glared at me. "If you catch him, I want to kick your brother in the face."
"Done."
"Unfortunately, I'll have to watch the mock battle."
"What do you three say?"
Two nodded and Jessica said, "Yes, Sir!"
"Sir?" Nagase asked.
"Amusing isn't it?" I said with a grin. "Fifteen hundred hours, ladies. Be ready."
"You mean today?" Jessica asked.
"Of course. I have... uh... President stuff to do tomorrow. I'll see you there."
Nagase and I stood up and walked out, listening to the girls chatter as we left.
"You're not really going to go easy on them are you?" Nagase asked as we walked down the hallway.
"Well, they're training in F-16s, so I'll fight them in that and give them a handicap. I have to get a ten second lock on all three of them within three minutes to win, whereas only one of them will have to get a five second lock on me."
"How do you know what they're training in?"
"Oh, I know who they are. Knew before they introduced themselves. I know everything about this base. Those three are already proficient with F-14s, F-15s, and F-18s. It was actually my order that they start training in F-16s. They're pretty good. They'd have fit right into Wardog at the beginning of the war back then."
"You think?"
"Mhm. They don't know that it was my order or that I've been watching their squadron, though, so keep that to yourself."
"Are there any men to their squadron?"
"Yes, five. They're an eight man squadron. Pandora's 10th Air Division, 115th Fighter Wing."
"No name?"
"Not yet. The Paragon squadrons name themselves when they complete training, and they're not out of training yet."
"I see."
"I'm hungry, wanna get Pizza?"
"We were just in the Mess Hall."
"Yeah, but I want to go into town for Pizza."
"You buying?"
"Don't I always?"
