J:Dream of me, dream of me nightly

When we've said goodnight.

Walk the streets of Derse or of Prospit

Do take in the sight.

Then you'll feel that again you could live,

A peaceful life that's evil free,

But if you could spare a moment,

Pause and dream of me.

We never said our quadrant would stay red,

In the waking life we knew before,

But if in dreams you can remember,

Remember of me.

Recall the memories of

Our young Alternian lives,

Don't give a thought

To things unseen.

Dream of me, dream of me waking,

Right here by your side.

Imagine me trying too hard

To push your image from my mind.

Fantasize, think back to all those times,

Of the worlds we left unexplored,

There will never be a passing sweep,

Where I won't dream of you.

D:Am I blind? Isn't that John?

Bravo! Bravo!

Back in the day, back in those distant days

On Pesterchum we'd chat before,

He may not recall of me,

But I recall Egbert.

J:Twin suns fade, the youth of our lives fade,

Controlled by sweeps with you and me,

But vow to me that sometimes,

You will dream of me.

"Bravo, bravo dear John…"

"John! Where are you? John!"

The concert had just ended, and the curtain had fallen to the sound of an enormous applause from the audience. John's replacement of Madame Serket came out as an incomparable success. The patrons that night to the opera house were unprepared for this flawless performance from a cast of singers who had before only been regarded as above average. Madame Pyrope had already claimed to smell the news travelling across their region of Alternia.

The cast has decided to hold a celebration right after the performance to congratulate John on his great success. However, the one cast member absent is the boy himself. Rose and Jade offer to look for him.

"Egbert please do come and enjoy the party. There is no such thing as a cast party without the star member." Rose calls into the empty hallway.

"John we know you're here! We've looked all over for you. The last place you could be is here!" Jade echos. The two girls walk down the narrow corridor, trying doors and continuing to call John's name. Suddenly, one of the doors Jade tries creaks open slightly, and light floods the dim area.

"Oh!" Jade gives a startled reaction, then peeks into the door, "John?"

"Huh? Oh hi Jade, hi Rose."

John sat on a wooden bench in the small workroom. His head was bent, and he was writing on a sheet of paper. He had responded without up from his work.

"John what is that? It's not like you to disappear just to write something like that. May we see?" Rose inquires. John's head shoots up from his work and his hands attempt to cover the parchment.

"Um, no, haha. It's nothing special; just don't mind it. I'll just put it up now…"

Despite this, Jade manages to snatch it out of his hands.

"Got it!" She squeals, and hands it to Rose for the two of them to read. John is horrified.

"Jade! Why'd you do that! Give it back, it's nothing that the two of you should s-"

"John, your still write to your father? That's so sweet!" Jade says.

"Um, actually…"

"Jade, his father passed away six years ago." Rose says blandly. Jade's face immediately turns a sickly white.

"Oh my goodness, John... I'm so sorry… I didn't mean to-"

John runs a hand through his hair, and forces a small laugh. "It's no big deal Jade, forget it. It's okay."

"Your father was really important to you wasn't he?" Rose asks, prompting a start in John, "Here you wrote that you had finally fulfilled something that would make him proud. Your last line is even, 'Are you still proud of me?'" John's face flushes, and he refuses to answer. After a short minute of silence, John starts singing softly.

J: Father told me of an angel,

One who would rid me of fear.

Here as I sing I do feel him,

I can sense he's here.

Down in this room, he whispers to me,

He's all around, hiding.

All where I go he's right beside me,

He, mysterious genius.

R: John dear what have you been seeing?

Visions as such are not true.

Ja: John, please, this nonsense is worrying,

You are not like you.

All: Angel in hiding, hide no longer,

Elusive and quiet angel…

John suddenly feels a wave of dizziness and falls back into a chair.

"Oh, John, your face is pale!" cries Jade.

"Hurry, we must get you something to drink and in a warmer environment" continues Rose.

The two girls grab the light-headed boy and drag him back to the main hall where there are more people. As she closes the door behind them, Rose feels a chill of air and shudders. If she had the mind to believe in ghosts, she would have sworn she had heard a ghastly sort of applause whispering its way into her ears.
