A/N: Hey guys! *gets pelted by rotten fruit* ...yeah, I probably deserved that. But guess what? Summer break is coming soon, meaning more time to write! So, to satisfy (or not) your hunger, here's the last chapter of M&M!
Disclaimer: ...I don't own Fire Emblem. Michiru's heart broke.
"Thank you for the supplies, Miss!"
"You're quite welcome, and please, come again!"
Watching the satisfied villager walk away from her shop with their new wares, Annette turned to face the emerald-haired Manakete sitting behind her with a bright smile. "So, how'd I do, Jeine? Was I alright? Give me your honest opinion!"
"You were great, Annette." He flashed her a pearly-white fanged smile, giving her a thumbs-up. "Don't change a thing."
The red-haired woman clapped her hands in excitement. "Oh, this is great! I emptied nearly every shelf, I made a ton of loot, and I even paid off most of my debt!" Scratching her head, she added, "And then re-killed a bunch of zombies to get said loot back, but that's neither here nor there... Anyway, I couldn't have done this without you, Jeine!" Caught up in her happiness, she stepped forward and threw her arms around him in a hug.
Flushing slightly, Jeine mumbled "I-it was nothing. I enjoy spending time with you."
"Me too! ...wait. That came out wrong." She furrowed her brow. "What I meant to say was, 'I like spending time with you, too.' Which reminds me... I... I have something to tell you, regarding that." Letting go of him, Annette blushed, fumbling with her hands.
"Oh? Let's hear it."
"You see...um... Well, it's like this..." she tried. "Over these past few months, I've been spending more time with you, yeah?" He nodded. "And we've always been friends, but I've...kind of wanted to get to know you better. You seemed pretty distant. While we've been doing this training thing, I've learned a lot about you—"
"And I you," he interrupted.
The red-head pouted. "Lemme finish! This is important business!" He smiled again, silent, and she found it hard to keep his gaze. "And the more I learned about you, and the more I spent time with you, I... Well... The more I...fell in love with you."
His heart almost stopped. Eyes widening slightly and flush returning with a vengeance, he stuttered, "Y-you don't say..."
Annette paled. "Did I say it too soon? Am I going too fast!? Oh gods, I ruined it! Jeine, I'm so sorr—"
Cutting her off, he grabbed her hand, and tugged her into him, ignoring her surprised yelp in favor of catching her in an embrace. With his Manakete sense of hearing, he picked up her quick breaths, and could feel rather than hear her rapid heartbeat. "Don't apologize," he nearly whispered. Pulling away slightly, he looked at her face to gauge her reaction. Emerald eyes clashed with ruby ones as he said, "In truth, I've grown fond of you, too."
The look of utter shock on her face was, in his humble opinion, priceless. "You have?!"
"I don't know how it happened, but I've found myself thinking of you without trying. As time went on, my tutoring became more and more of a farce to just be close to you without it being suspicious." Offering a lopsided grin, he chuckled, "We're quite the pair, aren't we? Though I'm sorry about those last few sessions...we kind of didn't do much."
"J-Jeine..."
I can do this...
Her face burning and her eyes shining with anxiety and adoration, Annette gripped the sides of his face, stood on tiptoe and pressed her lips against his, her eyes fluttering shut. Jeine complied almost instantly, wrapping his arms around her middle to press her closer to him.
When they broke apart, the merchant girl looked the Manakete man, smiling as brightly as the sun itself. "Jeine, I don't care if I'm the best or the worst merchant in the world! As long as I get to be with you, I don't care!"
Mirroring her smile, he laughed, "Well, you have me now, and..." his expression changed to one of comical concern. "Hey wait, you're still going to remember those lessons, right? RIGHT?!"
Annette and Jeine attained Support Level S.
Annette — Merchant in Training
Jeine — Sublime Serenader
Annette left Ylisse to travel the world and become a traveling merchant, like her mother and aunts before her. Her husband, Jeine, often assisted her with her transactions, using his Manakete charms and wisdom to boost sales, and the two lived their lives with laughter and love.
