Chapter 3:
Merlin's cobalt eyes followed the dark haired beauty as she left. He couldn't believe, or understand why, Arthur would have such a beautiful woman in his house.
"Arthur… Who was that?" He asked, breathlessly, much less confident than he expected.
Arthur's head turned toward his friend.
"Who? Morgana? She's my half-sister." He explained. "Why?"
He turned towards his friend, who was staring blankly at the kitchen door.
"Merlin?"
"Yeah…"
"Did you hear a word I just said."
"Yeah…"
"Liar."
"Yeah…"
Arthur laughed. Merlin just wasn't listening. Arthur picked a book up off the side and wandered over, hitting Merlin around the head with the book.
"Ow Arthur! That hurt!" He complained rudely, rubbing the side of his head.
"You were going all goo goo eyes on my sister, what else was I supposed to do?" He laughed, wondering why his best friend seemed so stupid all the time.
"Sister? I thought your mother died in childbirth? Your father never remarried, nor had a girlfriend to my knowledge…" Merlin muttered.
Arthur laughed slightly, in shock, hitting Merlin again.
"That's my father you're talking about… Anyway, half-sister, their mother… Well, it's a rather sensitive matter. The man they thought was their father died almost ten years ago now. They lost their sister recently and their mother's gone… A little… Mad. So they were sent here. So far, they seem to hate their father, but they'll come around eventually, I hope." Arthur explained.
"They? What do you mean they?" Merlin asked, still quite far away.
"There's two idiot. That's Morgana, she has a younger sister, Lucy."
"Oh…"
Merlin was unsure of what to say, but if anything, he wondered why he had had that reaction to a someone, not just a someone but someone he had only just met, it was strange, if truth be told, unnatural. He looked towards Arthur.
"Why did you invite me today? Did you want me to meet your sisters?" Merlin asked curiously.
"What do you think?" Arthur replied sarcastically.
"Maybe?"
"Idiot."
Merlin sat down, he suddenly had an urge to go and talk to the older. Morgana, so that was her name. It suited her somehow. Beautiful and mysterious, just as she was. He once again felt his mind going far away as he thought of the horror these two girls must have faced in their lives, how it must have felt to lose a father and then a sister, only to find that their father wasn't their father and that they were related to someone they had never met. He imagined the girls would be rather hostile for a while, they had cause to. You can't expect to tell someone that and have them call the person Daddy after all.
"Merlin?"
"Yes Arthur."
"She's in the kitchen."
"I know that."
"…."
Another awkward silence passed before Merlin got up. He brushed down his jeans and brown hoodie before stretching. He would go and talk to her. He didn't know why but he felt he should, felt it was a good idea. He didn't know why entirely but it didn't matter, he was going to. He slowly made his way to the kitchen. He leant against the counter in front of him and looked around, he couldn't see her. Morgana had heard someone come in, she wasn't sure who it is but she still hugged her knees and curled up in a ball, pressing her back against the counter, hoping whoever it was wouldn't notice her.
'Well there are two things that could have happened. She could have left the room or… She could be…'
Even before Merlin's thought had begun to process, he leant around the counter, seeing Morgana sat there, curled up in a ball.
"Morgana?" He called quietly, making her jump slightly.
She slowly and apprehensively turned to face him. She was instantly taken aback. From far away, he seemed special but from close up, there was something that made him seem completely unique in every way, similar to none, different to all. It intrigued her, more than she could say but this intrigue scared her. Why was she so interested in a man she had known the existence of for less than five minutes. It wasn't normal. However, this wasn't the only reason she was scared. This intrigue made her want to get closer to him, but she didn't want to be closer, she didn't want to be close to anyone ever again. Not after she had lost almost everyone, first her father, then her sister, and now her mother, she only had Lucy left and one day, amongst the gloom and the fall of the black rose petals they cherished so much, she would lose Lucy too. If she got close to Merlin, she would lose him too. That was a risk she refused to take. She turned around and stood up, not acknowledging his presence.
"Morgana?" He said, in a quiet and confused voice.
She froze. How did he know her name? How did Merlin know her name? She turned to face him.
"H-How do you know my name?" She demanded, stammering only slightly at the beginning.
"Arthur told me." He explained, a kind smile on his face.
"Oh." She muttered.
"I'm Merlin." He said, extending a hand.
She didn't take it.
"I know, I heard." Her voice was ice cold, as wad the look she gave him.
Merlin didn't understand, had she not felt the same strange feeling he had, did she not want to be his friend? He sighed a little, wanting her to say something that wasn't short or spiteful.
"Well... I guess I'll see you Morgana." He murmured sadly, turning away and starting to walk out.
She could tell, by his body language and the tone in his voice, that he didn't want to do that. He wanted to stay and talk to her and she knew it. She stood there, torn, not knowing whether to call him back or let him leave. She sighed, not knowing what to do. The thing that made up. her mind was a small voice in the back of her head that whispered to her, in a low and wise voice.
'You know you want to talk to him, and if you don't do it now, you may never get the chance.'
"Merlin, wait." She called submissively and he turned around.
"I'm sorry, I just... I've had a rough couple of months, my sister and my mother and-" She couldn't continue as she collapsed in a fit of half grieving, half apologetic tears.
Merlin had no idea what to do and did the only thing he felt appropriate, wrapping his arms around the smaller woman. Unsure what words of comfort he could give, he simply whispered.
"Shh, shhhh, it's okay." She kept crying into his shoulder, soaking the material of his hoodie.
"I-I want my sister..." She whimpered.
Merlin nodded, however, he had no idea of what the girl looked like, let alone what room in the massive house she was in. He led her out of the kitchen by a back route, so the others wouldn't see her in this state, and led her up a staircase she never knew was there, a back one, behind the kitchen. She made her way up the much smaller, less regal staircase, Merlin at her side, with little grace. She was still a mess. He helped her up each step, smiling, appearing to understand, but he couldn't, no one else could have gone through that, could they? She sighed to herself. A frown crossed his forehead.
"What's the matter?" He asked, concerned.
"Nothing it doesn't matter." She whispered.
He nodded a few times, continuing to lead Morgana up the stairs.
She lead him round the side to her sister's room where she saw the girl coming out of her room, still talking to Elyan, a smile on her face.
"Thank you sir, thank you very much." She said sweetly.
"Don't worry about it Lucy, it's all his pleasure I'm sure." He laughed, rolling his eyes a little, causing Lucy to giggle.
Morgana smiled. Her sister was smiling, properly, for what must have been the first time in months. She ran up to her sister, and hugged her tight, leaving a bemused Elyan.
"Lucy..." She whispered, her voice full of love.
"Morgana..." Lucy whispered back, smiling.
Merlin smiled, watching the two happily. They were obviously sisters and even if he hadn't already known, their strong bond tipped him off. The way they clearly relied upon each other for nearly everything was so selfless and yet selfish at the same time. he could tell they had no quarrels or fights, and had only devoted love and kinship for each other. This was the kind of love that kngs would fight over, strong, trusting and kind. He knew they could never be apart.
As they pulled apart, he got a closer look at Lucy. She was almost the spitting image of her sister. Her face was a different shape, her eyes were bigger and her hair was longer. However, the same deep, piercing, sea colored eyes starred back at him and her hair was the same raven color. He felt a different rush come over him than had over Morgana earlier that day, and judging by the confused, and scared, look on her face, she was getting the same. If he had thought the rush he got from looking at Morgana was strange, he hadn't ever dreamt of this. It was indescribable and unheard of. It was the sort of connection a leader would feel to his deputy. A sense of trust was also there, but how was she trustable, he didn't even know her. He blinked, tearing his eyes away from the gaze of the younger Pendragon sister. Still avoiding her gaze, he held out a hand to Lucy.
"Hi I'm Merlin, a friend of Arthur's." He introduced.
"Lucy." She replied with a sweet smile.
Morgana was astounded, her sister didn't normally talk to people like that straight away. In fact, she never had before. That Elyan was a genius, whatever he had done, it had worked!
"Why don't we all go back downstairs?" Merlin asked.
Morgana and Lucy nodded, wandering down. Merlin looked across to Morgana, who was walking next to him. She sent a small smile in his direction which was returned by Merlin smiling warmly and walking ever so slightly closer to her. They had a connection already, he could feel it. The way she smiled at him, the way her eyes shone, and the way she made his heart beat like a jack rabbit. He didn't understand it but he knew one thing.
He would not fall for her...
At least not until they knew each other better.
They all sat down on the same sofa the girls had sat down on earlier. Lucy on one end, Morgana in the middle and Merlin on the other end. A silence fell. Arthur had just been about to ask Gwen out to a movie or a town trip or somewhere, but his stupid friend and sisters had to go and ruin it.
The three of them looked at each other awkwardly, knowing they had interupted something. Arthur glared at them, annoyed.
"I forgot, I haven't... Finished unpacking yet. Er..." Lucy lied, getting up and scuttling off.
Quickly getting the message, Morgana thought.
"And I... Merlin's staying for lunch so I'm going to go and make some." She decided, getting up and dashing off.
"And I'm... Helping her." He decided quickly, pointing to where Morgana had gone before following her.
Arthur was fuming. They had made it so obvious that they were trying to leave them. He then turned back to Gwen to continue their conversation.
Morgana got herself out some eggs, bacon, a few tins of baked beans and bread, before turnover around, coming face to face with Merlin.
"Merlin, what are you doing?" She asked with a laugh.
"I sort of told Arthur I'm helping you with lunch." He said, hoping she wouldn't shove him out.
Instead, she smirked.
"Can you fry eggs?"
"Yeah."
"Well get to work then, we need two for everyone, that's... Twelve, twelve eggs." She explained in a rush, getting the bacon out and starting to count it out.
Merlin nodded, getting out a frying pan and six plates. He began cooking the eggs, two at a time.
After Morgana had put the bacon and some of the toast in, she went over, pulled out another frying pan and began to help to toast the eggs.
About five minutes stern, when they had for around half the eggs, the toast popped up, Morgana hiked out of her skin, clinging to Merlin in that split second, before they both burst out laughing and Morgana ran to change the toast over, put the baked beans in and butter the popped up toast.
When all the toast was buttered, the eggs, fried, the beans, piping and the bacon sizzling on the plate, she left the kitchen and called.
"LUNCH!"
In the time it took Lucy to get down there, she was the first one in, Merlin and Morgana had set the table. Lucy and Morgana sat where they had sat for breakfast, with Merlin on Morgana's other side. Arthur sat next to Gwen and Merlin and Elyan, finally emerged from the library, sat on Lucy's other side. Conversation was loud but seperate, with three different conversations going on at once. Merlin and Morgana's conversation was just about each other, the music they liked, TV, books and anything else, learning a great deal about the other. They just... Clicked... They got on so well with each other, Morgana couldn't believe it and their conversation ran deep, right to the washing up and right to the moment that Merlin had to leave. The two exchanged numbers, hugged and promised to see each other soon, as Merlin stood by the door. Morgana waved as Merlin got into his blue BMW and drove off.
"He's nice isn't he sister." Lucy said to her, a slight smile on her face.
Morgana just nodded, hearing her phone go off from her pocket. She read it.

Merlin:
Who says texting while driving is stupid, just checking this is you and you didn't fake the number. Haha
She grinned and replied.
Merlin, if you crash, do not blame me! Be careful.
Meanwhile, Merlin was driving at a careful pace, casually listening to songs by Arctic Monkeys. He heard his phone go off. He looked over at it, lying there on the passenger seat.

Merlin, if you crash, do not b...
He smiled and sped up. He would have to read that, and reply later.
Lucy was up late, late, late on her phone that night, texting constantly, and not going to sleep until the early hours of the morning. She wondered if Morgana would notice her either sleeping in or, if she set her alarm, her tiredness. She shrugged to herself, unbothered to set her alarm. She typed one last message before curling up in her bed and setting her phone down.
So... What do you think :D It's terrible probably, I wrote this around March time, and my writing has improved quite a bit. At chapter five, you will notice a significant difference. The next chapter will be up soon ^^
As for Lucy, she is powerful {not as much as Merlin of course}, more so than her sister, but she finds the control very difficult. She can't control her power, you won't find out what it is for quite a while, there are two main plots in this fanfic, they may overlap a little, but not much. This should end up quite long, with a lot of fluff along the way of course.
