"Astrid?...wha-what happened?" Hiccup stuttered. Everybody in the room was staring at him with a kind of dazed horror as he slowly regained his senses. "Did-did I miss something?" Hiccup trailed off as Astrid's expression turned from shocked to disappointed to furious. Her face turned so red it looked like she was going to explode and her nostrils flared as she heaved in and out angrily, fingers twitching erratically by her sides.

Yeah. Astrid was mad.

And wasn't that just the biggest underestimate of the year. (A/N: Quote from Beyond The Clouds 777)

"Oh, no Hiccup, don't worry! You woke up just in time to witness the demise of Stoick Haddock!" Astrid shrieked indignantly. Her fingers wrapped themselves around the handle of her Axe and she gripped it hard, ignoring the splinters that had latched themselves onto her calloused palms.

As she was about to stride out the door and end the reign of Stoick the Vast, Hiccup's nasally voice calling her name stopped her in her tracks. She abruptly turned on her heels and glared at Hiccup with the most evil glare she could muster.

He shrunk back into the shadows and whimpered while tucking himself into a ball. Astrid ignored it though. She was too angry to care.

She turned around and was about to exit the healers hut, when Hiccup's voice rang loud and clear through the air again; "Astrid, please don't do this. Now is not the time for revenge for what happened in the Great Hall."

"But Hiccup! The things you said in your sleep and the way you screamed!...No one should be treated like that and Stoick is going to pay!" She yelled heatedly as she fisted her open palm.

"Astrid, revenge won't get us far! While it may be good at first, what happens when the Berkians get revenge on your revenge? Then you'll get revenge on their revenge on your revenge! Then they'll get revenge on your revenge on their rev-" Hiccup's lecture was cut short by one very angry Astrid as she pointed her sharp, shiny axe at his throat.

"I DON'T CARE WHAT YOU THINK HICCUP! YOU'RE JUST USELESS AND SMALL AND WEAK AND AN OVERALL...WELL...HICCUP! INFACT, YOU'RE BEING A COWARD! YOU'RE AFRAID TO HURT YOUR FATHER BECAUSE YOU'RE JUST A BIG BABY! I BET THIS IS WHY VALKA LEFT YOU WHEN YOU WERE BORN! GO JUMP OFF A CLIFF AND DIE OR SHUT UP AND LET THE REAL VIKING HANDLE THIS!" Astrid boomed, and as soon as she finished, she realised what she had done. Her hands flew to her mouth and she gasped loudly while shaking her head, shocked that she had stooped that low.

"Hiccup… I…" Astrid trailed off.

"No. I get it Astrid. You hate me. You wish I was never born and that I'm a mistake... Don't worry though, I believe you! I mean who in their right mind could ever love a small, little, pathetic mistake like me anyway?" Hiccup wiped away the tears streaming down his face.

Astrid took a step back, fearful of what she had done. "No! That's not true Hiccup, I was just-"

"STOP ASTRID! You've done enough damage for one day." Snotlout glared daggers at her. Truth be told, Snotlout loved his baby cousin and hated seeing him upset. He had learnt to see Hiccup in a new light, and he was proud to know that he was related to such a kind, caring and intelligent person.

He had also had a crush on Astrid ever since he first laid eyes on her, but know he also saw here in a new light; he had always thought of her as tough, beautiful and unafraid to speak her mind. However, she had always seemed to know when enough was enough if something wasn't going her way. He knew she had anger issues, (He sadly, spoke from experience) but this-this was really low for her!

Fishlegs shook his head and folded his arms neatly across his chest, while Ruff and Tuff looked purely disappointed that she would even say that at all. For once, the twins were no longer fighting.

"Not cool 'A'. Not cool at all." Tuffnut muttered and avoided her gaze.

Astrid locked her stare with Hiccup's, silently pleading for him to see that she didn't mean any of what she said. Her icy blue eyes searched his frantically, looking for any type of sign of forgiveness, but all she found was a blank, cold stare that chilled her to the bone.

Astrid suddenly found the floor very interesting.

"I should probably teach you guys how to make peace with dragons. Maybe Berk will listen to you if the runt of the village is gone." Hiccup's voice broke the silence in a barely audible whisper as everyone turned to face him.

"NO WAY DUDE! WE'RE NOT LEAVING YOU! YOU'RE GONNA TEACH US TO RIDE DRAGONS!" Snotlout and Tuffnut hollered in unison while Ruffnut and Fishlegs nodded eagerly.

"But guys, you have a home, a family! You can't just give all that up for me!" Seeing that the teens confident expressions didn't waver, Hiccup gave in and smiled a genuine smile. " Wow… thanks so much… it means a lot to me." After a moment's pause, he continued on.

"I guess Astrid will have to come along too, considering she'd be marked a traitor for aiding me." Hiccup added reluctantly. Astrid's head snapped up in shock and she stared wide eyed at Hiccup's form.

'Why would he help me?' The young warrior thought to herself. `I was so mean to him and yet, he still wants the best for me! It's not fair, it's not right! He already had low self esteem and I only dragged him down even further! Why does he care? Is it possible he still has feelings for me even after what I said? No. That's impossible' Astrid chastised herself.

Hiccup staggered to his feet and Snotlout draped Hiccup's arm over his shoulder for support. They hobbled over to the door, eventually followed by Ruffnut and Fishlegs. After they had walked out, Astrid was about to follow them when Gothi yanked her back and pulled her into the corner of the room.

"Be careful what you wish for, Astrid" Gothi tapped her finger on her nose, knowingly.

"Wait! You can-HEY!"

As Astrid was massaging her aching leg, Gothi started scribbling in the dirt.

'Hiccup is the one from the prophecy.' she wrote, 'you must protect him from all harm, for he is our only hope if we want to end this pointless war.' She stopped her frantic scribbling to let Astrid translate her warnings.

She faltered for another second before continuing on, 'And Astrid, please remember, don't be selfish about your love for Hiccup and be careful what you wish for.'

After smiling sweetly at Astrid, she whacked her on the head and pointed to the Dragon Killing Arena, signalling for Astrid to go there. "But what if…" Gothi raised her staff menacingly. "OKAY, okay, I'm going!" Astrid trudged the door blearily and dragged herself over to the Arena.

By the time she arrived, everyone else had their new dragons except for her. Avoiding the glares of the other teens, she walked up to Hiccup and was relieved to see him give her a half smile. "So...um…" Hiccup scratched the back of his neck nervously as he stared at the young girl, unsure of what to say to her. He decided to just keep it natural and be civilized for now. 'Just avoid conversations and you should be okay.' He told himself.

Hiccup motioned with his head to step forward and he immediately started to advance on the Nadder; the last dragon left. "Hey girl, it's okay, I'm not gonna hurt you… don't be afraid" Hiccup cooed reassuring words to the dragon, hoping it would put the dragon at ease.

The nadder chirped happily at Hiccup when he offered her a chicken leg and quickly gobbled it up. After her snack, she gladly pressed her snout into Hiccup's open palm and followed him to Astrid.

When Hiccup's soft fingers wrapped around her hands, Astrid's heart skipped a beat. She wanted so badly just to kiss him then and there but she refrained from it for now. Their relationship was already tattered and she didn't want to make it any worse.

He gently pulled her forward and placed her hand on the dragon's snout. "Now, slowly make your way to her tail and start stroking the spines" Hiccup ordered. Astrid did what she was told and five minutes later, Stormfly, her newly named dragon, would not leave her side.

"Alright gang, we need to head off so that the guards don't catch us" Hiccup stated, eyeing the gates warily.

"But you don't have your dragon back yet." Ruffnut piped up.

"Okay, that's true, so we need a plan" Hiccup thought aloud.

"Hey! How about you ride with us! We can head over to the ships and blast them into oblivion while you grab Toothless! It's a win-win scenario!" Tuffnut suggested eagerly.

"That...might actually work...Tuffnut your a genius!" Hiccup yelled.

"YEAH! Wait… what did I say again?" Ruffnut groaned and slapped her forehead.

"All right then! Let's go!" Ruffnut stated. She grabbed Hiccup's arm and started to pull him towards Barf (Great name. I know). "I can go with Snotlout if you want…" Hiccup added uneasily.

"No! It's okay! Tuffnut and I don't mind!" Ruffnut responded.

"Okay. If you really don't mind..." Hiccup remarked before obliging and walking over with Ruffnut to her dragon.

"So...Hiccup, did I ever tell you how amazing you are.." Ruffnut drawled.

"Ummm…."

"Of course not! Not even words could describe your beauty." Ruffnut uttered ridiculously.

Astrid watched as Ruffnut flirted with Hiccup and an old, angry knot expanded in her throat. Hiccup was hers! Not Ruff's! ALL HERS! Astrid had never felt this feeling before. She didn't know what it was, but she didn't like it.

"You can climb aboard first, Hiccy." Ruffnut declared.

"Thanks… I guess…" Once Hiccup had helped everyone onto their dragons, he sat on Barf and pulled Ruffnut up with him.

"Oh dear! There's not enough room for both of us to fit separately!" Ruffnut stated in fake horror. "Don't worry, though! I have an idea!" Ruffnut immediately pushed Hiccup closer to the front of the dragon, then positioned herself on his lap. "My, your cosy, Hiccup!" Ruffnut purred as she snuggled into him further.

Astrid suddenly knew what this feeling was: jealousy. She was feeling jealous that Hiccup was sitting with Ruffnut, on her dragon, rather than with Astrid. But what angered her the most was when Ruffnut claimed that Hiccup was cosy and pulled herself closer to his chest. Astrid was just about to speak her mind when Snotlout yelled frantically that the guards were coming.

Well that got everyone going. They immediately flew into the air, away from the Arena, and towards the boats where Stoick was holding Toothless hostage.

"Does everyone know their positions?" Hiccup asked. After receiving his confirmation, he and Tuffnut steered Barch down to the ship at full speed. "Ready… aim….. FIRE!" Hiccup yelled, and everyone obeyed. Barch lit the ship with Toothless on it on fire and Ruffnut helped Hiccup hop off Barf so he could pull the chains of Toothless' form.

"GO HELP THE OTHERS!" Hiccup screamed over the blasts and the twins flew off towards Snotlout, Fishlegs and Astrid.

The ship was sinking fast, so Hiccup wasted no time trying to cut off the chains that held Toothless hostage. "I'm sorry bud, I'm so sorry for getting you into this mess." Hiccup murmured.

Toothless crooned, letting Hiccup know that he didn't blame him. "Thanks bud", Hiccup responded. "Now let's- argh!" Hiccup yelled as the boat capsized, throwing him into the ocean.

Toothless sunk to the bottom because of the heavy chains, so naturally, Hiccup followed him down to help. He started tugging on the chains again, but they wouldn't come undone. Toothless tries to warble for Hiccup to resurface- to not worry about him- but Hiccup ignored the dragons protests and kept tugging.

Hiccup's lungs were screaming for air and he was choking on the water. But that didn't stop him from trying to get Toothless free. His energy was slowly draining and the water was sucking the life out of him, yet he still didn't stop tugging. Hiccup's movements suddenly started to slow and that's when Toothless started to panic. Hiccup was dying, and all to save him!

Toothless tried to push Hiccup back to the surface, but his snout shoved Hiccup's stomach a bit too harshly, causing all of the air that he had left, to be knocked out of him. Hiccup's hands left the chains and wrapped themselves around his torso. On instinct, his mouth opened as he tried to suck in the air that he needed, but instead of the much needed air, more salty water gushed into his mouth and through his nose, burning his throat and clogging his airways. Hiccup started to choke and hack violently. His hand stretched up towards the surface, silently pleading for help.

But no help came.

Hiccup's eyes closed without permission.

A/N: Ummm… plz don't kill me! *Everyone takes out their weapons* OKAY! I didn't mean to ship Ruffcup but the story needed something! And plus, if you keep reading, you'll understand why I made Astrid say those things! If I delete it, I ruin the story! I have been told to try make the chapters longer, so I will try to do that too. Um also, sorry about the ending, I'm not good at Hiccup drowning but I think i'm actually pretty good with everything else. The next chapter is where the story really starts to begin, the first 4 chapters were just some fluff I decided to add. Thx for all the reviews! Love u guys!
Thx!
