Story Notes:
Enjoy! :D I don't own AF or 'King of Anything' by Sara Bareilles
Captain Holly Short was in a meeting. It was no ordinary meeting, however. It was a meeting with Commander Trouble Kelp….
She sat at a table in Spud's Spud Emporium waiting for him to arrive. He was five minutes late. She sighed as he came in and rushed over to the table.
"Hello, Captain. Sorry I'm late. I have a lot of work to do."
"It's fine Commander. I understand."
He sat down and a waiter hurried over. "Good morning, officers. Can I get you anything?"
"A sim-coffee will be fine." Trouble turns to Holly. "Is there anything you want? My treat."
Holly shook her head and stared outside. The sprite walked off to get the coffee and the commander turned back to Holly.
"So, Captain. Let's get down to business."
Holly continues to look out the window. She even counts the cars that go by. The boulevard was just as busy as usual.
Keep drinking coffee,
Stare me down across the table While I look outside So many things I'd say if only I were able But I just keep quiet
And count the cars that pass by
"Captain?"
"Hmmm….?" Holly turned back to Commander Kelp. Apparently he had something to say. He was always full of opinions.
"Please pay attention please. This is important."
"Yes sir."
Holly noticed Trouble had brought a folder full of papers with him. He opened it and took out a few papers.
When he closed the folder, she could see the name FOWL printed on the front. Holly immediately knew what the meeting was about. She sighed as she waited for him to begin.
"Okay, now, the human Artemis Fowl the Second refused to answer my questions again today. I'm beginning to think that he's not worth keeping around and that we should just go ahead and mindwipe him."
Holly was incredulous. He was still going on about that. Unbelievable.
It had been a month after the incident with Turnball Root. One month since Artemis was diagnosed with the Atlantis Complex. He was improving, but occasionally Orion would still show up. It could be a while before he was back to normal.
Meanwhile, Trouble insisted on interrogating him.
Holly glared at him. "Commander. He's being treated for Atlantis Complex. He's not himself. Give him some time."
You've got opinions, man We're all entitled to 'em, but I never asked So let me thank you for your time,
And try not to waste anymore of mine And get out of here fast
"I know that, but just think. Look at all the stuff he's done! He kidnapped you, for Frond's sake!"
This made Holly angry. Who was he to be saying that? Yeah, he was the commander. But, Artemis had changed…a lot….
"Commander, he's changed! He's not like that anymore! Can't we just put that incident behind us?!"
The waiter came back with Trouble's coffee and set it on the table. The commander ignored it and continued on with the meeting. Captain Short was being unreasonable. She didn't understand.
"How do you know that for sure, Captain? It could be an act. He could be planning his nect move. He could strike at any moment!"
"But, Commander…."
Trouble picked up his coffee. "No but's, Captain.
I hate to break it to you babe,
But I'm not drowning There's no one here to save
Who cares if you disagree? You are not me Who made you king of anything? So you dare tell me who to be? Who died and made you king of anything?
Holly sighed and crossed her arms. Fine. If he's going to act like that….I'll just make thing's…Difficult…
"You were saying, Commander?"
Trouble sighed and put down his coffee. Apparently Holly didn't understand. He was just trying to protect her.
"Captain Short….Holly….Listen to me. I just don't want you to get hurt…This is for your own good."
Holly scowled. "My own good! Excuse me, Commander, but I think I can take care of myself!"
"Holly, you don't understand! I just…."
Suddenly Holly realized what Trouble was referring to. She laughed mockingly.
"This is about what happened last month isn't it! Well I hate to burst your bubble, but I never said anything about a second date!"
You sound so innocent,
All full of good intent Swear you know best But you expect me to jump up on board with you And ride off into your delusional sunset
I'm not the one who's lost
With no direction But you'll never see
You're so busy making maps
With my name on them in all caps You got the talking down,
Just not the listening
Trouble frowned. "But I thought…."
Holly laughed again and got up from the table. Several fairies head turned to their table. Suddenly things were getting interesting…..
"Well you thought wrong, Kelp!"
And who cares if you disagree? You are not me Who made you king of anything? So you dare tell me who to be? Who died and made you king of anything?
Holly walked around to where Trouble sat. All of the eyes in the restaurant followed her. Including Trouble's….
"Holly?...What are you doing?..."
The elfin captain was livid. She was tired of being bossed around. She was independent and she didn't need some gung-ho, egotistical commander, telling her what was best for her.
"I've had enough! Who are you to tell me what I should and shouldn't do in my personal life!?"
A crowd was beginning to form around them. Trouble opened his mouth to say something, but Holly cut him off.
"I respect you commander, but this time you have gone too far! So, unless you have anything else to say, goodbye!"
Then, without warning, Holly picked up Trouble's half-empty coffee cup and dumped the rest on his head.
Everyone stared. They could not believe their eyes.
Holly stormed out of the restaurant, leaving Trouble sitting there dumfounded.
All my life I've tried
To make everybody happy While I just hurt and hide Waiting for someone to
Tell me it's my turn to decide
Who cares if you disagree? You are not me Who made you king of anything? So you dare tell me who to be? Who died and made you king of anything?
Who cares if you disagree? You are not me Who made you king of anything? So you dare tell me who to be? Who died and made you king of anything?
Let me hold your crown, babe.
The waiter rushed over to the table with a towel and the crowd of fairies began to disperse. There was nothing else to see.
"Here you go, Commander."
Trouble took the towel gratefully. He was still in shock, however. What just happened…?
"I deserved that didn't I…."
The sprite nodded nervously. "I'm I may say so, Commander, yes, you did."
Chapter End Notes:
Haha. Trouble totally deserved that.
Oh, at the part in the song...'Who died and made you king of anything?' Well, I couldn't help but think of Commander Root. He was Commander and now since he died...Trouble is the commander...lol
