A Fairy's Broken Wings

CHAPTER 4:

Pursuit

I do not Own Fairy Tail.

.~O~O~O~.

(Lucy Heartfilia)

Groaning, Lucy woke up. Her body ached, a lot. She tried moving and enduring the pain but a some point it was too much to bare. As she stood, she had to hold on to something, if not she'd fall. No more pain was dearly accepted. Her eyes took a few seconds to get accustomed to the darkness that surrounded her, she saw plenty of trees, and rocks. The smell of rain, bark, and water filled her lungs. She looked up at the source of light; the moon was full that night, it shunned beautifully, and to Lucy, it had been a while since she last saw the full moon. Because it brought many memories back to her.

"We're friends, Lucy," Natsu's voice made itself to her ears. She remembered Natsu hugging her tightly, telling her that she was special, and that she meant everything to him. "I'll never leave you behind." She understood that he had lots on his mind, and that his Dad had been ripped apart in front of him, after looking for him for so long.

"Natsu?" She remembered calling his name as he stood at the edge of the cliff where his Father met his demise. He probably didn't hear her because he was lost in thought or her voice wasn't louder than a whisper, but she did know that he was going through too much. Suffering was an understatement. "I'm sorry." Was all she could utter to him. She saw him Nod, and slowly fell to his knees. She caught him, holding him close, and making sure he was aware that he wasn't alone. She heard his soft whimpers, and his voice choking up (asking "why?" "Why now?"). Lucy didn't know what to say, her voice was caught in her throat, stuck and nowhere to be found. She slipped her fingers through his dusty, salmon hair, held him tightly and held back her tears. Natsu was suffering already, she had no right to cry.

It was until he'd calmed down, that he thanked Lucy, and walked through the crowd with Happy. Lucy didn't have a chance to tell him, even then, that she loved him. It was a perfect moment, but she hesitated because she didn't want to make the moment about her. That mistake would cause her a lot.

Feeling her warm tears, Lucy couldn't stop staring at the diamond in the sky. She missed Natsu's soo much, it drove her nearly insane. He didn't break her heart, it was mostly her fault. She should have said something.

"Feeling better, Blondie?" It was Laxus's voice. Yes, Laxus. The man who used to find pleasure in hurting people. She couldn't blame him, she, too, would have done the same thing if she were in the same situation. But there was something different about the Laxus now. He seemed to appreciate her in a way it made her forget Natsu. Not to mention how he made feel a couple days back.

She was confused beyond the point of asking questions. She simply wanted to discover why, why is he bothering with me? Because in her subconscious mind, she wished to forget Natsu. Maybe a little bit of Lightning was all she needed. Something to shock her into the future and out of the fire. A different type of warmth. Something more dangerous and tingly. Something that made her feel excited, and afraid at the same time.

She probably needed a little bit of Laxus.

A picture in which Natsu was't a part of.

"Sluggish," Lucy replied, not taking her eyes off the moon. "What time is it?"

"It's been two days, Blondie." He moved closer, she could tell because his voice became louder. "You've been out for two days. That fucker kicked you too hard."

"That's alright," she said. "Because you kicked his ass for me, didn't ya?" She smiled, and began to look around. She saw the look on his face, he seemed tired and out of it. "Everything alright?"

"No."

"Then what?" She inquired with a frown. "Is there something on my face?"

"You're too reckless," he spat. "Just like Natsu." He crossed his arms and glared. "If you continue to fight that way, you'll probably get yourself killed."

"Not you, too."

"I'm serious, Lucy," he got close, enough to make Lucy back up into a tree. The awkwardness increasing by the second. "I know you're strong. But you seem to make the wrong decision in the midst of battle. Just like Natsu."

Not taking it seriously, Lucy scoffed. "Look who's decided to call me by my name."

"I'm serious," he warned, getting closer. "Be smart. Don't be like Natsu—"

"Would you stop comparing me to him?" Lucy interrupted, pushing Laxus aside. "What do you want me to do?! I was on his team for over a year in a half, fighting side-by-side. He helped me get slightly stronger and though me the little I know. So I'm sorry that I resemble Natsu." She curled her palms and lost control. "You should probably learn a bit from him. He knew how to be nice—"

"He was Naïve—"

"But he was kind and cared about others feelings—"

"He was reckless—"

"He never stopped trying—"

"He left you."

The words hit Lucy dead center. She then punched Laxus in the face, hard enough to push him a couple feet back. He still had his mischievous glare. But Lucy was full of emotion and pain. Her bubble had popped and reached its limit. Laxus had thrusted the needle too far.

"I was wrong!" She yelled, causing the birds that were asleep to awake and fly away. "You're still a jerk! You're still the same guy! To top that all, you treated me like a slut!" She slapped her hand onto her mouth, feeling ashamed. She held back the tears fell to her knees and blankly glanced at the soil. It was wet and fresh, it had recently rained. She didn't hear anything anymore. Laxus probably left her just like everyone else. "I think I went overboard," she muttered.

"You did," she heard Laxus say as his orange eyes shun. "But I was initially trying to burst your bubble." He had his hand extended.

Lucy slapped his hand away. "Why?" She asked, still holding her tears back. "Why do you want me to feel this way? What did I ever do to you?"It was as if Laxus held back words he'd wished he could utter. "Cat caught your tongue?"

"Spar with me," said Laxus, lightning crackling. "It helps." Lucy didn't get up, she started on the ground, doubting herself. "Not strong enough?" Laxus taunted.

Natsu would have never— Lucy sprung from the ground like a rubber band, in pain, her stomach burning. "You'll regret that," she muttered, getting into a fighting stance. She decided to use the Magic Aquarius left her with. In seconds, water surrounded her, changing her clothes. Her fists surrounded by blue light and water. "I'm not holding back."

She was frustrated and emotional. Never in her mind she though that sparing would make her feel better. Not to mention, sparing with Laxus Dreyar himself.

Laxus tried punching Lucy in the gut, but she dodged, swiftly creating a Triton with the water around her. Having very little idea on how to use Aquarius's abilities, she used it like a simple staff and began to toss it around, successfully hitting Laxus several times.

It was until Laxus somehow got behind her, pinned her to the ground, her palms above her head, being restricted by his strong hold. His knees around her waist, holding her legs together, their faces really close. Very, very close. Dangerously close. All her anger had disappeared by now, and her only though on Laxus. She wondered how his eyes shined so beautifully, like a owl at night. In the day, they looked gray, while at night, they were nearly fluorescent orange.

In that instant, Lucy forgot about Natsu.

It was until she remembered the other night, and how he had her pinned to desire, that her legs twitched and butterflies fluttered in her stomach. She saw he looked at her, no lust, no desire, just a calming look that made her skip a heartbeat. "You mentioned something about the other night, Blondie," he muttered. Lucy knew where he was going; she couldn't stop him. But being honest to herself, she didn't even want to stop him. "I never saw you as a slut. Not even close. You're too much of a woman to treated that way." He now got closer to the point where Lucy found feel his breath on her neck. Just like the other night. "The money was for… the undergarments I teared off."

Her cheeks reddened and reddened by the second; even the tips of her ears felt hot. "Don't worry about it Laxus," said Lucy, and awkward smile on her face. "I was angry. I spoke out of anger and the spar helped me." She avoided his eyes. "Besides, I don't remember a lot—"

"Stop lying to me," he interrupted. "I know you're in love with Natsu. I know you are, but I remember something you tasked me on that night, and I still have to make it happen." He got closer, gingerly trying g not to ruin the moment. "You told me to make you forget him. And I intend on making that happen." He held a smirk on his face. "One of these days, Blondie. I'll make you forget Natsu and you'll be all mine. One day."

Lucy pursed her lips. "Why are you so good to me?"

"Why can't I just be good to you?"

Lucy flipped him over, getting on top of him. Being turned up by the moment, she cupped his face and landed a kiss on his lips. It was her first kiss with a guy, (Cana once kissed her while drunk, but she probably didn't remember.) She pulled away quickly, mentally cursing at herself for being driven by the moment. "Why'd you do that?" Laxus asked, a smug on his face.

Lucy felt a boost of confidence in that moment. "Because sometimes, it's good to play with a little bit of lightning and seize the day."

"Yeah," said Laxus, pulling Lucy close. "Let's seize the day."

The two melted in a sweet, hungry kiss.

Sometimes, It's better to mess around with Lightning rather than Fire, don't you think?

A dark building stood in the middle of a field with dead trees. Inside sat a man in a throne made for a king. "Oh, I see," said he with a smile. "The girl is still alive."

"Yes, your honor," a shorter creature uttered. "Lee failed to kill her."

The man sitting on the throne raised his eyebrows. "Don't worry, Doctor," he reassured. "We'll just have to proceed to plan B."

"You can be serious!"

"Oh, Indeed I am," said the man. "Prepare the Demons. We'll kill Lucy Heartfilia on the spot."
