I don't own Harry Potter

Preparation and first task

"What are you doing Harry?"

Harry groaned in annoyance as he turned around to see Zoe. "I've heard rumours about the first task. Apparently there are dragons in the forest."

"And you wanted to see if they were true," finished Zoe before turning thoughtful. "You don't need to. As one of the judges, I know what the tasks are and yes, you will be fighting a dragon."

"And, of course, being as knowledgeable as you are, you must know all about dragons and their weaknesses." Harry smiled.

"Oh, don't get your hopes up. I'm only telling you this because I know everyone else is telling their champions. Go get your own knowledge."

Harry grumbled as he made his way back to his room. At least he had a starting point.

"That was quick," commented Lucas.

"Got caught by Zoe. And the rumours are true. We'd better start researching dragons."

The next day

Harry pulled down another book on dragons.

"Why are you reading about dragons?" asked Hermione as she walked over.

"Well, can't count out the possibility. The tasks could be anything. Anything." Harry turned to the first page before sighing. "Let's see…"

He pulled out his wand and muttered something before a pen started to write out notes.

"What the…. Isn't that cheating?"

"Nope. Instead of working through that giant book, the pen will write out notes which are much easier to read." Harry started to skim over the notes already made. "Pretty useful. Now. Don't you have classes?"

Hermione made a face before walking away. A owl flew over.

"What now?" Harry pulled off the letter before wincing. "No way am I going to meet with Blondie's Father. He needs to grow a pair."

"Anything interesting?" asked Aurora as she sat down next to him.

"Finally! Someone I can actually stand! Let's see, think skins, resistant to spells, eyes are weak… Not much that can help you."

"So I have to throw rocks at it in order to hit its eyes before getting to whatever we need to so," summarised Aurora as she stared at the thick book Harry had just put away.

"yep. I think we need to work on your dodging skills. And mine."

Later

"Ow, ow, ow, ow!" Aurora yelped as the rocks continued to hit her. "Dora did have to teach you how to make drawings come to life!"

"Sorry," said an innocent Harry as the painting of a launcher continued to pelt out rocks. "But at least it's being out to good use."

"I am so going to flambé you later!"

"You love him really," called Alistair as he did his chemistry homework. "With the way you make googly eyes at each other… OW!"

Harry twisted the painting so Alistair got hit with several rocks.

"Anyway, what's your plan?" asked Lucas.

Harry grinned before turning into an eagle and flying around.

"Mr Potter!" Professor McGonagall ran over. "What on earth do you think you're doing?"

Several lions wandered over with Dora on their backs. Harry turned back.

"Dora, I think you broke her," said Harry with a grin as McGonagall spluttered.

"Ah, that's bad, right?" asked Dora.

"You should know that by now Dora. Please keep what you do to a minimum. If you want to, that is." Harry grinned as he transfigured his clothes into swimming trunks and leaping into the lake.

"Mr Potter!"

"Hello Professor Dumbledore." Harry looked rather put out at having to get out of the lake so soon. "What is it you want?"

"I was expecting you in my office for a meeting." Dumbledore looked very disappointed. "And I find you swimming in the lake."

"Hey, swimming is good for you. And I consider it helpful for getting prepared for the first task." Harry shrugged as he dried himself off and turned his trunks back into his clothes. "And I don't really want to speak to Blondie's Father. I mean, I just made a few valid points."

"Anyway, now that you are… presentable, you will come to my office."

"Pervert!" Harry ran away in mock fear. "He's going to rape me!"

"Are you sure about that?" asked a worried Dora. "I mean, that's illegal, right?"

"He's joking Dora," said Aurora with a shake of the head. "And I don't know the laws here."

Dumbledore sighed before pulling out his wand. "I must insist Mr Potter."

"And I don't think a note to come to your office is really acceptable. If it's about my behaviour, pass it to one of the Muses and they'll sort it out. Me coming to your office could be seen as something bad. I mean, I'm part of a competing school to yours. Now, can you leave us to our practice?"

Dumbledore grumbled before deciding to see if he could get someone else to bring the boy to his office and left.

First task

Harry and Aurora pushed open the flap to the tent.

"You feel up to this Aurora?" asked Harry as he sent her a worried look.

"Yes Harry, I'm fine. What's the point of doing all of this if I wasn't?" Aurora playfully punched his arm as the judges walked in. Zoe sent the two a small smile.

"Well, good morning everyone," said Bagman as he pulled out a pouch. "I take it you all prepared for the task today. From this pouch, you will pull out a model of what you will be facing today. Ladies first."

Fleur pulled out a Common Welsh green and Aurora pulled out a Romanian Longhorn. Cedric went next and pulled out a Swedish Short Snort. Then it was Viktor who pulled out a Chinese Fireball. Then it was Harry. The boy frowned as he felt a charm trigger as he pulled out a Hungarian Horntail.

"Yes, dragons," said Bagman like if everyone was surprised, which they weren't. Harry watched his dragon move. "Your task is to get past the dragon and get the golden egg it is guarding."

"Ok, that's going to be annoying," said Harry as he stretched.

"And you'll be going out in the order of the numbers on your model," finished Bagman. "You'll only be allowed your wands."

"Hmph. Not like I've got one in the first place," muttered Aurora. Harry glanced at his number. He was last. The judges left and the two started to whisper together.

"What are you doing?" asked Harry as he glanced at the other champions.

"Let's say that I have permission to use other things than a wand," said Aurora with a small smile as she twisted a lock of her hair around her finger. They glanced as Cedric left the tent. Time passed then it was Aurora's turn. Harry nudged her towards the exit. He listened to the noise outside then a sweet sound came through the canvas, causing Harry to yawn and shake his head. Claps quickly came through. Then it was his turn.

Walking out, Harry winced as the bright light hit his eyes. Bagman was introducing him and Harry focused on the dragon before sliding his gaze to the golden egg before smiling. Bagman finished and Harry immediately turned into a eagle before leading the dragon towards the edge of the arena. Harry quickly flew out of the way and shot towards the egg, picking it up in his talons and flying back out. There was absolute silence before people started to clap.

"That was amazing," said Aurora as Harry dropped his egg and turned back before picking it up. "And you should have seen the looks on their faces!"

"And music, really?" asked Harry with a raised eyebrow.

"Yeah. Melody helped me. Worked pretty well, the dragon pretty much went straight to sleep." Harry smiled.

"MR Potter!" Crouch pretty much stormed in with two Aurors. "What is the meaning of this?!"

"Of what?" Harry looked confused.

"You're an unregistered Animagus," explained Dumbledore.

"I am not." Harry shook his head. "I am registered. But not in England. I'm registered in Greece and have an international license."

He pulled it out of his pocket and gave it to Crouch who studied it before reluctantly giving it back.

"What did I score anyway?"

"You got forty four," said Zoe as she stretched. "Now, I want to get back to my books. There's something wrong with this Tournament and I want to find out what it is."

"Fine. The next task is in February and a clue is in the eggs you just got," said Bagman in a hurry. "Good luck."

Harry rolled his eyes and immediately headed to the lake.

"What?" asked Aurora as she followed him.

"An idea." He placed the egg in the water before submerging his head.

Come seek us where our voices sound, we cannot sing above the ground

And while you're searching, ponder this: We've taken what you'll sorely miss,

An hour long you'll have to look, And to recover what we took,

But past an hour - the prospect's black, too late, it's gone, it won't come back.

"How very interesting," said Harry once he pulled his head out of the water. "We're going to have to look for something we'll miss underwater and we have an hour to do it in."
