A/N: So just to repeat myself-this is simply a conluding summary to let people who have wanted to know what happens know what happens with Kyouya, Haruhi, Ai-Ling, and Tamaki. I am in college and no longer have time to write fanfiction, and neither am I very much into Ouran Host Club anymore. But if I have time, I might just write an epilogue, just for ya'll. We will see about that.
Disclaimer: Ouran is not mine. If it were I would have a much easier time paying my college tuition and would probably not be writing fanfics in the first place.
Concluding summary: So, after the last chapter where Haruhi and Kyouya have a moment together and seem to part ways, Ai-Ling (because she remains unsure of the fact Kyouya would truly give her the undivided attention she wants when they are married, as well as her skepticism of what both Kyouya and Haruhi are saying) hires someone to follow Kyouya around. She realizes that Kyouya has visited Haruhi, and she confronts Kyouya. Kyouya denies it and tells her "foolish women have nothing better to do than let their imaginations run free", or something to that effect. So instead she changes tactics. She can't blackmail Kyouya or else her reputation would look bad, so she has a fellow, good looking friend that is a well-established lawyer seemingly change firms and start working at Haruhi's non-profit workplace. She has him strike up a friendship with her, and tries to set Haruhi up to where it will look dirty on her part (she thinks as long as Haruhi looks bad, that's all that matters. Ai Ling is smart and knows Haruhi doesn't really love Tamaki). Although he keeps inviting her out to coffee Haruhi is uninterested, saying she is engaged but really just still upset about Kyouya's engagement. Meanwhile she is working hard on the case about the farmer's, and learns that the Japanese whole foods business that is cheating the farmers and covering up their business records so the farmers suit would be unfounded is really a foreign business in disguise, choosing to adopt a Japanese name a Japanese people to run its branch in Japan so they can evade tariffs and whatnot.
Tamaki, oblivious to all of this, asks Haruhi when she plans to get married. Haruhi is unsure of herself, and keeps saying "after the case, after the case." Meanwhile as Kyouya's wedding day approaches, he too is unsure of himself. He thinks of her a lot still, and plans to contact her again when he sees in the news that Haruhi supposedly has committed adultery on the Suoh heir with a lawyer at her nonprofit workplace. He is furious. In actuality, it was all a setup. The lawyer offered to give her a ride back to her apartment one day when her car broke down (all due to Ai-Ling, she had people poke holes in her tires that day). Haruhi took the subway to work. He offered to take her back, and said it was dangerous at night. She refused, but he insisted. So she grudgingly accepts. On the car he confesses his "so-called" emotions for her, and she firmly tells him she is engaged. Not to be deterred, he kisses her on the corner of her mouth, which was all that was needed because Ai-Ling's hired men got a picture and sent it to the paparazzi.
Tamaki doesn't read the newspapers though, he is too busy with his own silly stuff. However his grandmother hears and demands an account on Haruhi, where Tamaki also finally hears about it as well. Haruhi sticks to her guns and says she is not guilty, recounting all that has happened. Tamaki believes and wants to get married to her still, but Tamaki's grandma is postponing the marriage-in the fact that it may not happen.
Kyouya and Haruhi coincidentally meet, though Kyouya was determined not to, in a business venture/matter that the Ohtori group at with their organization. Kyouya is determined not to look at her, or speak to her. Haruhi is hurt. They and some other people in the same business matter are talking together on the balcony of a five star restaurant, when the others leave and Kyouya is alone with Haruhi. They talk tersely, and their conversation becomes an argument. Before Kyouya leaves, Haruhi sees through his soul again, and says he is hurt because he is still lying to himself, not that she is lying to him. Kyouya can't say anything to that, and leaves, but his heart is breaking, and he wants to return. Instead, he receives a call from his dad to come back to sort out business with him in the joining of Chen's conglomeration and their own.
The next day Haruhi is on the way to work, when the paparazzi crowd her car, and tail her, ending in a car accident. Tamaki is already at her side when Kyouya, having heard of the situation, drops all he is doing and runs to the ER. She is unconscious. Tamaki and Kyouya exchange talk, and Tamaki tells him how much he cares for her. Kyouya is numbed by his own emotion and guilt, and cannot speak. Tamaki receives a call from his dad telling him he needs him, and Tamaki does not want to leave. But Kyouya could see his weariness and shadows under his eyes, and says he must take a break. Tamaki claps him on the back and says he is a good friend, and to look after Haruhi.
Haruhi mumbles in her sleep and says Kyouya's name, and Kyouya's heart stands still. He confesses his own frustrations and feelings to her, and that he was lying to himself. He says "I'm sorry, I'm sorry." Soon enough the Hikaru who also heard of the accident arrives, and reluctantly he lets him take over. Hikaru heard of this confession though, and is angry at him for not telling Tamaki. He says he needs to come clean to Tamaki or else he isn't a good friend. Kyouya admits all these things, and agrees in his heart, but says nothing. He leaves.
The next few days are Tamaki and Kyouya routinely visiting Haruhi. Tamaki doesn't suspect anything and thinks Kyouya is just being "a good Mother". Ai-Ling is jealous of all this attention he is giving her, and tells his father. Kyouya has a conversation with his father, where his father tells him the truth: their company will not be able to survive the next 5 years, and they need to join businesses with Ai-Ling's father's corporation to survive. He knows that Kyouya still loves Haruhi, and he had in the past wanted to arrange a marriage between the two. But times are tough, and when times are tough there is no such thing a delicacy as love that they can afford in business ventures. Kyouya is impassive to all this, and says nothing. But already the cogs are turning...
Ai-Ling, seizing this chance (thinking that his father had sorted everything out) starts laying claim to Kyouya again. Kyouya brushes her off, and gets angry with her. Through their conversation, Kyouya begins to realize (since he is reading that book Inspect Your Opponent: How to Spot Deception In and Out of the Court) that Ai-Ling may be hiding something. He orders men (who are better trained than the investigation units Haruhi has to rely on) to look into her father's conglomeration for business malpractice. In the meantime he continues to visit Haruhi, and at one time he visits, she awakens.
They have a quiet conversation. Kyouya does not know if Haruhi heard what he said that day he confessed to her when she was still unconscious. The nurse brings in some hospital food, and Haruhi requests some coffee. Kyouya tells the nurse that he will make the coffee, and Haruhi is moved. He brings the coffee to her, and they talk of better times, of the novelty of instant coffee when Tamaki wanted to try it out at the Host Club, how Kyouya for the longest time did not drink instant. Haruhi teases him for that, and he admits instant coffee had its uses, but he liked his grinded still.
Tamaki arrives, he leaves. When he arrives home, Ai-Ling demands to know where he has been. Because he does not respond she says she knows where he's been the entire time, and she says he does not honor their engagement. He asks her "what is this engagement to you?". Ai-Ling shows a side of her he has not seen before-the side that suffered while he was paying all his attention to Haruhi. She says she wants a beautiful wedding, she wants to keep that prestige she was born into, she says she does not want to lose her reputation as one who was tossed aside for a commoner. As she is crying and yelling at him, he tells her in his heart he has no more room for these things. He tells her he knows that his father has been swindling money illegally, that he in actuality owns the companies that are cheating the Japanese farmers out of their practice. And that is her father's fault, not his, and he will not pay for his mistakes. If their family loses their reputation, her father will have to deal with it, not him. But you cannot pretend to create something that was never there, and you cannot take away that which will always be there (talking about his and Haruhi's relationship). He leaves her crying in the room.
Meanwhile he sees a thunderstorm building up over Tokyo, and he begins to worry for Haruhi. He sees he has thirteen missed calls from Tamaki, saying that he was needed to go abroad to do business with his dad, and he could not get out of it. He wants him to take care of Haruhi for now, and the weather looked ugly. Kyouya quickly goes to the hospital, only to find Haruhi missing. He discovers her shaking in the janitor's closet. He carries her in his arms back to the hospital bed, and puts earmuffs over her ears, which he brought just for the occasion. As she sleeps, he tells her he has a solution, and he will not rest until it is worked out.
The next few days he spends at the hospital working on his laptop to find ways to save his father's corporation, and visiting and talking with Haruhi and taking her on walks. Their relationship strikes up again, and they are comfortable around each other, being intimate (like holding hands, whispering in each other's ears) when people aren't looking. Ai-Ling is reserved when he comes home, and no longer tries to confront him or get him to spend time with her. His dad asks why he no longer spends time with Ai-Ling. He tells the truth about Ai-Ling's father to him, and he also proposes his plan to his dad that will carry their corporation through the next few years without fear of bankruptcy. If he could just cancel this engagement, that's all that matters (he knows Haruhi is still getting married to Tamaki, but he does not want a fake marriage while he still loves Haruhi). His father says nothing, but nods to him saying he agrees.
Meanwhile he still spends time with Haruhi. Tamaki runs in on them holding each other (he had come back from the business trip early) and is in shock. He is furious. He hits Kyouya, and Kyouya does not block him. Haruhi begs him to stop. Tamaki says nothing, then turns away and leaves.
Kyouya is in anguish over his betrayal to Tamaki. Haruhi gets well the next few days and returns to her work. The next few days are in suspense. Ai-Ling tells Kyouya she no longer wants to restrain him, and leaves the country. Meanwhile the situation about her dad's business malpractice has become public as Haruhi's units of investigation have finally found out the truth (with a little help from an anonymous person delivering evidence, who was actually Kyouya), and Ai-Ling leaves in shame. Ai-Ling makes one last visit to Haruhi's apartment before her flight and confesses to her that she never lacked anything growing up, all that she wanted was given to her. But what was missing was love. She said she wanted that very thing that Kyouya had for Haruhi but she did not have. She says Haruhi is a very lucky woman. She leaves Haruhi to ponder all of this, and beginning to audaciously hope that she and Kyouya can still be together.
Haruhi and Tamaki were scheduled for a dinner to discuss their wedding plans. The dinner is silent, with Haruhi trying to bring up idle talk. Then Tamaki says, if you wish, we can cancel the engagement. I would rather you be happy with Mother rather than stay with me. Haruhi asks him if he's feeling well. He brushes that off and says, just do what you feel is right.
Haruhi finds ways to try to text Kyouya this situation, but can't. Before she does send a message, Kyouya rings her doorbell, and said Tamaki called him. They sit together in silence, not knowing what to say. Haruhi says she heard him confess when she was unconscious, it was like a dream to her, and she didn't know if it was real. He said it was real, and he still loved her. She smiles to herself, and tells him he came at a bad time, I need to wash the dishes, and do grocery shopping. Kyouya asks if he can help out. She smiles and says yes.
And then THAT is the end. The epilogue consists of them having children and doing commoner's stuff like family picnics and stuff. She has her first child, a three year old boy, who is running around. She is pregnant with her second child, a girl. Kyouya keeps wondering why they couldn't just eat at the best sushi place in town. She says that way you have the best of both worlds-expensive ootoro and sushi, and the commoner's world (Kyouya ordered from the best sushi place in town for their picnic). And that's it.
Inspirations for this story go to: Kalachuchi, Miss Rose (a Taiwanese drama with the same kind of concept-a commoner in which a wealthy manager falls in love with, and a very possessive ex-girlfriend who is the daughter of his boss and she does not want to lose him because of her reputation.
