Chapter 4
Shelter
For Gohan, Saturday morning was accompanied by a strange sound, one he couldn't ever remember hearing before, an alarm at 5 a.m. It roused him from a deep sleep, being delivered via Krillin's voice, "Yo Gohan, Yamcha, get up guys, breakfast is ready!"
A small dose of anger came out of Yamcha, "Why do we have to train before sun up Krillin?"
Krillin laughed as he hollered out of the Kame house's kitchen window, "Because the Solar Flare looks cooler when it's dark!"
Yamcha rolled over from his spot on the beach and shook Gohan's shoulder, "Come on Kid, time to train."
The Half-Saiyan sat up with a yawn and a stretch, he wiped away some sand from his beach side bed when his nose caught a scent and he spoke of it groggily, "I smell food."
Yamcha stood, rolled his eyes, then spoke, "Saiyan's are such fatties."
The two of them made their way into the house and sat at the Kitchen Table. They were both relatively quiet until Krillin appeared with a plate filled with some sort of patties. Neither Yamcha nor Gohan had seen them before, they each grabbed one and bit into their respective pieces. The excellent flavor woke them both the rest of the way up when Gohan spoke with delight, "Krillin, what is this!?"
Yamcha nodded, "Seriously man, this is delicious!"
"Fish patties," Krillin ate one of his own, "I cooked and shredded some of that leftover fish, put it in a bowl, drop in an egg, some celery, some onion, bread crumbs, salt, pepper, onion and garlic powder, mix it up, make patties, and pan fry it. Boom, fish patties."
"You should teach these to me so I can cook them for my mom and Goten," Gohan looked at Krillin eagerly for a reply, he didn't know much about cooking, but was eager to try, it would give him excuses to take Goten fishing.
Krillin gave him a thumbs up, "Sure thing kid."
Just minutes later the three of them had finished eating, got changed, and now floated in the dark sky above Kame house. Krillin began his coaching, "So since Yamcha has never learned the Solar Flare, I'll be doing all the teaching on this one."
Both Yamcha and Gohan nodded as Krillin continued, "SO essentially were going to use our fingertips to channel a small amount of energy, but instead of focusing it into a ball, were just going to fire it out of body at an extremely fast speed, turning it into light energy. Kind of like the bursts of electricity you see snap around you Saiyan's when you go Super Saiyan."
Gohan cocked his head sideways, "So it's like creating an electrical energy flash?"
Krillin nodded, "Yup, best way to learn is to try it, so,' he raised his palms in front of his hand and spread his fingers, closed his eyes, then fired it. A massive burst of light shone out in the dark, causing Yamcha and Gohan both to wince even though it wasn't aimed toward them. Yamcha whistled, "Haven't seen that since the old tournament days."
Gohan nodded, "Didn't you use this on Frieza?"
Krillin laughed, "Yeah, and it threw him for a loop, it just goes to show you, even a monster like Frieza can be susceptible to a well-timed technique, especially one like this that attacks one of the senses."
Gohan nodded, "Cool, let's try it Yamcha!"
Yamcha joined in as the two of them raised their palms towards their foreheads, Gohan told himself to focus on bursting the Ki, not balling it, Yamcha doing the same. They yelled in Unison, "SOLAR FLARE!"
Miniature Ki blasts shot from each of Gohan's fingers, Krillin shifted back to dodge them while nothing emitted from Yamcha's hands. Krillin snapped, "Watch it Gohan, nearly took my eye out!"
Gohan laughed, "Sorry, this is harder than it looks!"
Krillin laughed, "Yeah it is, transferring the Ki into light energy can be tough, Gohan fired his Ki too slowly, and Yamcha didn't fire enough Ki, try again."
They did as they were bade, both shouting and trying, once again for Gohan, his hand shooting small spurts of Ki, but he winced as a massive burst of light shone from Yamcha's hands, the earthling yelling in triumph, "Yeah, check it out guys, I did it!"
Krillin gave his old friend a pat on the back, "Nice, that was quick!"
Gohan joined, "Nice job Yamcha!"
Yamcha could hear the hint of blue in Gohan's voice, so he encouraged, "Thanks, and don't sweat it Gohan, I just have more experience transforming the manner of my Ki, let's go again!"
They continued this way through sun up, Krillin coaching Gohan and Yamcha firing repetitive bursts of ever growing light. When the sun finally did arise it brought Master Roshi out of his sleep, the elder man rubbed the dust from his eyes and made his way downstairs in nothing but his underwear and glasses, leaving his bed in disarray. The normally tidy man didn't care to clean when he remembered that he had a triple deluxe strawberry cake waiting eagerly for his teeth in the fridge downstairs. The day before he'd taken a trip to a small town called Candy Village to pick it up. Not only did he enjoy the flavor of this legendary cake, it was made by a woman with legendary beauty. In the old master's mind, eating the cake was a close second to dating her. The more he thought about her pretty hands baking the thing, the faster he moved to the refrigerator. He started to laugh aloud in the way of a mad man when he ripped the door to the fridge open…but he was met with shock, his heart sank when every shelf in the thing was full of zip lock bags, each bag reading, "Leftover Tuna." Roshi screamed aloud, "NOOOOOO!" He ripped all the bags out with no luck, "WHERE IS MY CAKE!" His last desperate attempt warranted ripping the freezer open, "MORE FISH! KRILLIIN!?"
Outside amidst the training Krillin heard the voice, so the short man left his two companions to train and hustled into the house. He quickly moved into the kitchen where he found his master standing with menace glazing his eyes, so Krillin asked, "What's wrong Master?"
Roshi's muscles began to expand until his body grew to three times its normal size, muscles and veins gaining definition as he snapped, "Where's my CAKE!?"
Krillin decided for a joke, he patted his belly as he jeered, "Oh, that thing was tasty."
Steam began to mist off of the elder man's muscles, "Now you have to die Krillin."
The short man laughed and pointed towards the blue Kitchen table that stood behind Roshi, "Look over there old man."
Roshi slowly turned his head until his eyes met with delight, his cake sat next to his breakfast. The massive mass his body had attained reverted, he stepped to sit and stuffed his face as he ushered a thank you. Krillin shook his head as he headed back outside, "Bi Polar old man."
…
Across the ocean and far from Kame House sat the metropolitan of Satan City, the small town had once played host to just 90,000 citizens a few ten years prior. The aftermath of Cell and the Notoriety of Hercule had influenced the city, it hadn't even been named Satan City before the man "killed" Cell. After the renaming, the city grew exponentially just from eager people craving the safety and fame of living near the world's savior himself. Smack in the middle of town a massive mansion had been erected, and why not? If a man seeks enough attention to be a narcissist, shouldn't he put his mansion right in the middle of a massive group of cult like fans? This was obviously the reason for the bushes in the front garden, they had all been trimmed to show the likeness of their owner beating up random people. That way the first thing you would admire on entering the grounds was his overflowing strength! Next you see the house, which towered four stories, showing off the grandeur the man shared with the building…at least as much grandeur as the zoning codes would allow. Next you walk into the den, the front door being basic enough, but the den, if you could call it that, was a monster shrine dedicated to the self-absorbed man. In fact, the entirety of the house was one large exploit built to please the man. Ironically enough, two rooms alone were left untainted by the self-absorption. The irony falling on the massive room in the west wing of the fourth floor, it was a dojo, dedicated to actually training, yet it was the only room the MASTER of martial arts rarely graced, in fact, his daughter was the only one who was seen to occupy it. She would be there or the only other room that wasn't built for Hercule, her own bedroom, where she now lay in a deep sleep. Snuggled like a cat would be the most apt way of portraying her beautiful rest. The raven hair she grew long past her shoulder blades was smothering her face as to not show off the identity of the person, and her massive satin blanket smothered the rest of her frame when a loud ring shocked the room. It rang again, then again, then once more, until finally the sleeping beauty extended just an arm out of the blanket burrito and snagged her screaming phone off of a small stained end table and pulled it back into the blanket, placing it on her ear she beckoned, "Hello?"
An almost irritatingly squeaky female voice came through the line, "Where are you girl? I'm out by the front gate right now!"
"Eresa?" The sleepy girl thought groggily, "Oh, I'm sorry, what time is it?"
The blonde on the other side of the phone spoke whimsically, "Well, I'll be, Look at me, I'm Videl, My friend is waiting patiently, and all I do is sleep!"
The black haired girl finally sat up in her bead and laughed, "Why are you rhyming?" She pulled the phone away from her face and checked the time, "Oh, I'm sorry Eresa, it's already 11! I'll get dressed quickly!"
Erase laughed. She stood next to a sleek black sports car with a hand on her hip, "Don't worry, the game doesn't start until 1:30 anyways, as long as we make it on time we won't have to listen to Sharpener whine about missing any baseball. We just have less time to shop now. And make sure you brush your teeth and take a shower, I can wait a little longer."
A voice beckoned from the car Eresa stood next to, "I don't want to wait any longer!"
Eresa hunched over so she could look into the car, "Can it Sharpener, we can wait a few more minutes, the game doesn't start for a couple more hours anyways!"
The man did in fact can it when Eresa continued on the phone with Videl, "Be quick, but take a shower alright?"
Videl was already walking into her massive bathroom, "Yes mam."
…
It was almost lunch time back at Kame house. Krillin had gone into the house to prepare some food while Gohan and Yamcha were still outside training. They now stood on the bank out behind the house, Yamcha had started the teen's Wolf Fang Fist training. He'd already covered concepts of how the wolf is a smaller animal, but it uses its claws and paws to tear, and powers them by using its body weight to tear through much larger opponents. Even going so far as to bite the target. It will use the speed to overwhelm and terrify the opponent as well. They'd gone over a simple stance that kept your body balanced and square, using your center to throw a stronger punch by pivoting your foot and hip. They were currently learning the first punch when Krillin stepped around the Kame house, the short man was clad in an feminine flowered white apron when he yelled, "You Yamcha, your cell phone won't stop ringing in there. Some guy named Todd."
Yamcha looked toward him, "Todd, I better check then, "he glanced at Gohan, "Keep practicing that punch on both sides, turn your shoulder back and turn on the ball of your foot so you can throw your full body weight."
The half-Saiyan nodded, "Yes Sir!"
Once inside Yamcha was shocked to find that he indeed had twenty missed calls from his friend Todd, he went to call back when Todd called him again, Yamcha picked up and placed it to his ear, "What's up Todd?"
Krillin stepped from the Kitchen to eavesdrop, the short man could hear a flustered voice speaking with haste when Yamcha himself answered with surprise, "No way, Tony and Nolan both got injured?"
Yamcha listened to the man called Todd for a few more seconds before Krillin heard him reply, "Yeah, No problem, I'll be there in an hour."
Yamcha hung up and turned toward Krillin when Krillin asked, "Gotta go?"
Yamcha nodded, "Yeah, two of our strongest players were injured in a collision last night, they need me back or they'll have to bring a rookie up from the minors…and these games are deciding the playoffs…so I gotta go."
Krillin nodded, "No problem, go grab Gohan, we can eat on the way."
Yamcha raced outside and stopped Gohan from practicing, he explained the situation, then asked, "Want to come watch me play since we can't train for a few hours?"
Gohan shouted, "Yeah!"
Krillin came outside holding several tuna and vegetable shish kabobs. Roshi accompanied him to the group when the old man spoke, "Let's go!"
Krillin glanced at his master, "You want to go Master?"
The elder man nodded, "Yes!"
Moments later the four of them were flying in the direction of Satan City. Gohan was enjoying his food, as was Yamcha, but Krillin wasn't. How could he? After preaching about how he couldn't fly, Roshi tied a horse saddle on Krillin's back and was currently using it to hitch a ride. Krillin yipped with vitriol up at his master over the wind, "Comfy up there?"
Roshi ate his shish kabob, "Yeah, but I didn't know you were so slow Krillin."
Gohan and Yamcha laughed at the comment, but Krillin's chagrin spilled out, "Slow huh?"
Krillin built up his Ki and blasted off with alarming speed, sending the old Master reeling off of his back and falling quickly toward the earth. As Krillin disappeared over the horizon, Gohan followed him, leaving Yamcha to catch his falling teacher, he swept him up, placed him over his shoulders piggy back, "Hey master, didn't you know a man should never mistreat his horse or he's likely to buck?"
…
Popcorn and beer, they seemed to be the only things you could smell in the Stadium. It was hot, 84 degrees in mid-august was typical, and it sure seemed fitting for a game of baseball. Being that this game was a decider on who was leading the division, it was sold out. Most fans had settled into their seats and eagerly awaited the first pitch. A few however had crowded a small lane out past the pitchers dugout, if you fought for a spot, you could look down into the tunnel where the players came out and see back into the locker rooms. Much to their delight, a few players had come through and waved hello to the fans, even signing a few balls and throwing them up to the crowd. Three of the spectators stood against the fence in front of the rest when one of the three posed a question, "Hey Sharpener, shouldn't we be watching the home tunnel, this is the tunnel for the West City Taitans, I thought that the Devils were your favorite team?"
Sharpener had his entire muscular frame pressed against the fence when he snapped back, "Yeah, they aren't my team, but my favorite player plays for them, I want to see Yamcha!"
A shorter raven haired girl looked up at him quizzically, "What's so great about this Yamcha guy?"
Sharpener seemed insulted that someone would question the greatness of his idol, "You really don't know him Videl!? He's amazing, they call him the home run King!"
Sharpener turned and grabbed Videl by the shoulders, "What are my two favorite things in the world!?"
Videl thought a moment, "Uh, baseball and boxing?"
Sharpener nodded then pressed his face back up against the chain linked fence, "Right! H's my idol because he became a great Martial Artist before he became a great baseball player, that's my plan!"
His over hyper energy was hard to follow for both girls, and baseball wasn't exactly their favorite things, but Eresa had heard Yamcha was a looker, and Videl was obsessed with the Martial arts, so she pried, "Just HOW great of a martial artist?"
Sharpener laughed, "Really good, He made top eight in the world Martial arts tournament twice when he was younger."
Videl nodded, "Nice! Now I'd like to meet him too."
Eresa cut in, "He's supposed to be gorgeous too."
…
The Sigh of Relief that Yamcha's coach let escape his lungs was heard throughout the locker room. It drew the attention of the whole club, so they all let out a unanimous sigh as well when Yamcha laughed, "Sorry guys, I'm back."
The locker room was much cleaner than one would expect for a room full of sweaty athletes, no doubt a result of the money that was earned by major league baseball. Though this was the away team's locker room, the sense of comradery between teams lead to it being stocked with fresh equipment and a ton of food. The food was being eyeballed by the half-Saiyan that stood behind Yamcha when Yamcha turned to face his three friends, "Hey guys, come meet the team."
The next few minutes were spent with Yamcha introducing the entirety of his team to Gohan, Krillin, and Roshi. The last person they met was the skipper, Yamcha placing a hand around the old gray haired man's shoulder as he sang his praises, "This is the best coach you'll meet."
The old Coach shook each of their hands, "I'm Mike."
He was still amidst shaking Gohan's hand when he noticed the teen was lost in dreams while staring at the table of food, Mike asked, "You hungry kid?"
Gohan nodded, "Sorry sir, but yes I am."
Coach Mike became coach hero when he pointed at the table, "Hack at it! We won't eat all that!"
Gohan's eyes grew a shine that his company recognized from their days with Goku, Roshi commented, "Big mistake."
Suddenly Gohan appeared by the table, yet unlike his father, he actually sat and made a plate instead of stuffing his face, meats and cheeses became victims along with their fruit cohorts. As Gohan ate, attention shifted back to Yamcha and his coach when the coach spoke, "Want to play second or left field?"
"I'll play second," Yamcha turned towards Roshi and Krillin, "want to see the field?"
They nodded then followed Yamcha, leaving the teen to his mini feast. After walking through a short tunnel they emerged into the light and the field was visible. The sun was piercing as Yamcha was pointing out all the neat features of the Satan City Stadium when a loud girlish shriek screamed loud enough to cast over his voice. Yamcha looked up to the fence where the fans typically stood and spotted a crazy long haired blonde guy, he was shrieking, "Oh My God! Yamcha! Yamcha! AHHHGHHHH!"
Krillin looked up and laughed, "Fan club?"
Yamcha gave his short friend a frightened glance, "No way, that guy looks psycho."
Roshi noticed the two young girls with the kid, "His friends are good looking, why don't you invite them down!?"
Yamcha laughed, "No Way, I ain't got time for crazy," the ball player handed over three tickets to Krillin, "Those are your seats, I need to warm up."
Krillin nodded as Yamcha headed out onto the field, "Good Luck."
…
After snagging Gohan from the locker room, Krillin and Roshi joked about how the teen had ate three full plates thanks to the slight training they had done that morning, "Your mom will kill us when you eat after a full day, We're creating a monster."
Gohan had felt nice and full when they arrived to the designated seats. A small and round man had showed them up past the normal stadium seating and into a VIP box, he brushed his toupee when he spoke with a bow, "Enjoy sirs."
The fancy room earned a "Woah" from the group. There was a mini bar stocked with many different forms of alcohol, a small flat iron stove with an eager Chef standing behind it ready to make whatever the three desired. A massive glass window showed the full field, and also held two flat screen televisions above it with the day's play by play. Two fancy black leather couches were sat parallel with the window's when Roshi exclaimed, "Yowza! This is Fancy." The elder man planted a seat on the couch and mysteriously pulled a pair of binoculars from his marsupial pouch underneath his shirt and affixed them to his face, then affixing them to random chests in the crowd. He was mumbling to himself perversely when Gohan and Krillin sat down next to him, Gohan laughing, "Wow, this is like a high class hotel, just how much money does Yamcha make I wonder?"
Krillin placed a hand to his chin, "I'm not sure, but he is the best hitter in the league, so probably millions of fol per contract."
Gohan's eyes went wide, "I had no idea that baseball players make that much money!"
Krillin laughed, "It's certainly unbelievably ridiculous sometimes."
Gohan thought a moment, "Yamcha must really be a humble person, he doesn't even spend that much money on himself."
Krillin grinned, "Yeah, he really is a good guy," Krillin glanced up at one of the TV screens above him, "Looks like the game is about to start."
Gohan nodded, "Cool, you may have to explain some stuff about baseball."
Krillin laughed, "Sure bro."
Just then the Chef, who had been quietly listening, walked his thin apron clad frame up and asked, "Would any of you gentleman like some food?"
Gohan's stomach turned, so he let his face follow as he looked up at the man, "Can you make a mushroom and Swiss burger?"
The man nodded vigorously, "No problem, that's easy," the Chef looked at Krillin, "You sir?"
Krillin nodded, "I'll try one too, and why don't you make one for yourself and come watch the game with us bud?"
The man was taken aback, he was tearing up, never before had anyone extended such kindness, this guy wasn't another rich pompous jerk! He exclaimed emotionally, "I will sir! These will be the best burger's you have ever tasted!"
…
Yamcha was batting cleanup, the most important run supporting position in the lineup, and he had to wait until the second inning for his shot to bat since all three of his teammates had struck out the prior inning. His at bat was against whom many considered the best pitcher in the league. His name was Aaron Cook, and he had yet to face Yamcha a single time. As Yamcha approached the plate, he glanced up at the scoreboard and read aloud, "Down by just one huh?"
Yamcha settled into the batter's box and glanced at the crowd in the outfield when the first pitch flew by him for a strike, yet Yamcha didn't care, he took the time to spot the luxury box that his friends sat in when the second pitch whirled by for a strike. Yamcha's fans booed and his coach could see his aversion and screamed, "Yamcha, get your head in the game."
The pitcher garnered a passively overconfident grin and decided to float a pitch across the plate to take advantage of the home run king's distraction and get a quick strike out. Much to his misfortune, Yamcha had spotted his target and let a quick swing go, crashing cleanly into the baseball and rocketing it toward left center field. The Stadium announcer screamed, "That one's out of here, and oh my, it just crashed through a press box window, can we get a close up?"
Fans cheered as Yamcha rounded the bases, meanwhile the broadcast cameraman zoomed a camera into the press box to find an old man knocked out on a couch with a baseball sized bruise in his face and a smashed pair of binoculars in his hands. The announcer jeered, "He'll feel that in the morning."
Krillin and Gohan had watched the ball approach and jumped clear of it when it came crashing through the window, but Roshi had fixed his binoculars on a plump chest, so he didn't regard it until it smashed into his face, leaving the old man with a busted jaw and a priceless baseball from the home run King. Yamcha could see the picture of the elder man cast on the stadium jumbo screen, he laughed as he yelled, "Sorry Master Roshi!"
…
It had just entered the fifth inning when Gohan and Krillin had requested some stadium dogs from the chef, the cook feeling poorly when he told them that they would have to venture to the merch booths and out of the luxury box to hunt down hot dogs. They didn't mind though, it was in fact Gohan's first time in a ball park and he wanted to explore the fanfare. So they set off, in search of yet more food for the Saiyan grinder.
Across the stadium in the seats next to first base sat the trio of high schoolers who had been eagerly watching the game. Every time Yamcha came to bat, Sharpener lost all earthly sense of sanity, wearing a Satan City jersey and cheering for a West City player may have drawn a few looks, but to Sharpener it didn't matter. His company didn't share his elation, but Eresa did find pleasure in staring at the baseball butts before her, while Videl studied the mechanics of each pitcher. Since Yamcha wasn't on the field and it wasn't his turn to bat, Sharpener took the opportunity to leave his friends and go find food. He had just procured three stadium dogs from a small man at a vendor when he turned around to leave and stopped to stare at the two people in line behind him, one was tall and around his age, the other an older man who stood close to his waist in height. Sharpener looked at the short man for a moment before the tiny man noticed, "Uh, can I help you kid?"
Sharpener leaned over and peered closer to the short man's eyes, "Haven't I seen you before?"
The short man spoke, "Uh, I'm Krillin, have we met?"
The lightbulb went off in the tall blonde's head, "OH MY GOD! YOU'RE THAT GUY WHO WAS WITH YAMCHA EARLIER!"
Sharpener threw the hot dogs he held sky high in the air as he took a knee and grasped Krillin's hand, "PLEASE, YOU HAVE TO INDTRODUCE ME TO YAMCHA!"
Krillin pulled his hand away at once, "Oh no, that psycho kid, come on Gohan, lets jet!"
Krillin ran away, quickly followed by Gohan, yelling at the younger man, "That kid must be stalking Yamcha, Lets go find another hot dog stand."
Gohan nodded, "Okay!"
Back at the stand, Sharpener was tearing up and wondering why they fled when he stood up with resolve, "I will hunt you down tiny man."
The blonde remembered his hot dogs, feeling stupid he turned to ask for more…until he noticed the clerk standing there with a freshly thrown mustard dog on his face, the clerk wiped it away as he screamed, "GET OUT OF HERE IDIOT!"
…
After an eventful few hours, the game had come to a close, the West City Titains had won on a two run home run from Yamcha. Fans were still screaming when Yamcha snuck off of the field and out into the player parking lot. It had also been where Yamcha had instructed his friends to meet him, so as Yamcha approached, he spotted His old master and two buddies, and they all met up when Gohan shouted, "Congratulations!"
Yamcha grinned, "Thanks kid."
A pair of broken binoculars were then hefted at his face, along with an angry snap, "You broke my binoculars you brat!"
Yamcha laughed, "Sorry Master, Let's go buy you a new pair."
So with that, they group headed off in the direction of the Satan City mega mall, but not before Yamcha had a chance to run back to his locker and remove his jersey, swiftly replacing it with a hoodie that concealed the defining features of his face, making it easier to sift through any would be fans waiting around the area to hound him. After quitting the stadium and hitting the main road, Yamcha retrieved a capsule from his pocket and activated it, revealing a convertible red hover car. The four climbed in and headed out, unaware that a small car followed their every turn. The trailing car was full of complaints towards the driver. One such complaint uttered from a raven haired girl that sat sprawled in the back seat, "Are you really going to stalk this guy in front of someone who fights crime Sharpener?"
The man driving snapped back, "I'm not stalking him Videl, I just want to meet him!"
Videl scoffed, "Yeah, without his knowledge of your following him, sounds like stalking to me," She turned her head towards her friend in the passenger seat, "What you think Eresa?"
Her friend giggled, "I never have seen Sharpener so obsessed with a man before, that's for sure."
Both girls laughed at the teen as he took a left into the Satan City Mega Mall, following the car that held his idol. He jumped out of the car as he snapped, "Come on, we almost caught up."
Videl and Eresa stepped out of the car when Videl yawned, "No thanks."
Eresa snagged Videl's arm, "Let's go shop, See ya Sharpener, good luck."
The girls disappeared through the crowded parking lot and headed into the building, leaving Sharpener to stalk on his own.
…
Even though it was the weekend and the mall was slammed with a ton of eager shoppers it didn't take long at all for Gohan and company to track down a sporting goods store where Yamcha bought his old Master a new pair of peeping tom scopes. The magnification was three times higher than his last pair! With that done, and several hours of light left in the sky, they had decided to head back to the Kame house and continue training for the day. So they made their way through the Crowd and were about to head outside on the first floor when Krillin stopped the group next to a kids toy store, "Hey guys, Hold on a second, I'd like to grab Marron a present while we're here."
They all nodded when Yamcha spoke, "Cool, we'll wait here."
So they stood in this manner for a few minutes when Gohan noticed something amiss, he looked among the people around them, "Hey Yamcha, where did Roshi go?"
Yamcha looked about, "Probably chasing tail."
Gohan tilted his head, and spoke with an inflection that shewn he didn't understand the reference, "Chasing tail?"
Yamcha laughed, "It means he's looking at women."
Gohan laughed, "Oh, I see."
Krillin emerged from the store with a bag and asked, "Kay, you guys ready…hey, where did Master Roshi go?"
Gohan laughed, "Chasing tail."
Yamcha laughed at his quick use of the phrase, "Well, I'm not waiting, he can get home on his own."
Krillin and Yamcha walked a few feet when Krillin noticed the half Saiyan had disappeared now as well, he complained, "What the heck, where did Gohan go now?"
Yamcha hummed, "Huh," he turned and glanced around, "There he is."
Krillin traced the trail that Yamcha's eyes drew out and spotted Gohan, the teen had walked about fifty feet away from them, "What's he doing?"
They watched as Gohan knelt down and picked up a bag from some girly store that sat alone on the floor, seemingly dropped by its owner. The teen stood with the bag and carried it, running another fifty or so feet when he hailed to two women that walked away from him, "Excuse me mam!?"
The crowd drowned Gohan's voice, seeing they couldn't hear him, he rushed and dodged a few people as he got close enough for them to hear, so he called again, "Excuse me mam."
The loud call warranted both girls to turn towards the source, one was blonde and dressed in sleek clothes while the other hoisted dark pigtails and a simple large white t shirt, the former noticed Gohan was speaking to her, so she pointed to herself, "Me?"
Gohan nodded, "Yes mam," he lifted the shopping bag up, "You dropped your bag way back there!"
The blonde girl blushed, "Oh my, thank you so much!"
Gohan nodded as he turned and waved while running back to his group, "No problem, have a great day!"
The blonde girl turned to look at her friend with a grin, "He sure was a cutie, wasn't he Videl?"
Videl laughed, ignoring her pry for girl talk, "That was nice of him."
Eresa giggled, "I'm just glad he didn't look in the bag."
Videl turned her head sideways, "Why?"
Eresa pulled an item halfway out, showing the lace of a quite risqué bra, "Because that would have been embarrassing."
Videl face palmed, "If it's so embarrassing, why buy it in the first place?"
They girls argued a moment when Gohan walked up to Yamcha, the ball player speaking before Gohan, "Chasing Tail kid?"
Gohan gave him a sour look, "She dropped her bag."
Krillin elbowed the teen, "Still, that was smooth kid."
Gohan blushed as the three men left the mall. All the while the two girls eagerly watching them, Eresa speaking, "Hey, isn't that short guy the one that was with That Yamcha guy?"
Videl just nodded, "Yeah, I guess that means your Good Samaritan knew Yamcha as well."
Eresa laughed, "Wait till we tell Sharpener we met one of his boyfriend's entourage."
…
Another hour passed until Videl and Eresa had finished their shopping, the two girls had made their way out to where Sharpener had parked his car when said guy stepped out of said car, his face was bloody and he was grinning. Videl rushed up, "Hey, what happened Sharpener?!"
Sharpener grinned through obvious pain, "It was awesome!"
Both girls looked at each other then at him, Videl asked further, "You hit your head?"
Sharpener shook his head no then continued, "So I waited by Yamcha's car so I could ask for his autograph when he came outside. I'd been there for a while when a group of weird looking guys came through the parking lot breaking into cars, I called the police on my phone and hid beside Yamcha's car so I could keep an eye on them when Yamcha and his buddies came out to his car, they had just started to climb in to his car when the thieves stopped him and mentioned how nice the car was. Yamcha said thanks but I could tell he knew the guys were bad news. Yamcha and his two buddies stood there when all those guys surrounded them, there had to have been at least ten guys there! Yamcha asked them if they would move so they could get out when one of them kicked the headlight on his car and busted it in. Then the whole group attacked Yamcha and his buddies!"
Sharpener seemed to speak all of that in one breath, he took a second to breathe through the excitement when Videl snapped, "Is that Yamcha guy and his friends alright?!"
Sharpener nodded vigorously, "Yeah, it was amazing! Yamcha and his two friends beat those guys up in like two seconds!"
Eresa finally cut in, "Three guys beat over ten?"
Videl chimed in too, "That Yamcha guy did compete in the old tournaments right?"
Sharpener nodded, "Yeah, but I have never seen anything like this before, it was like a flash and they were all down, I jumped up right when they won to tell Yamcha how cool It was, but Yamcha was still in fight mode and thought I was a bad guy, he punched me in the face! He felt so bad that he gave me this," Sharpener pulled a signed baseball out of his pocket, "He signed it for me and everything! Then they left and the Police came and took those criminals away. That's when I came here to wait for you two!"
The punch and the talking had worn on the teen, he passed out as Videl thought to herself, "Now I want to meet this Yamcha guy, Ten people in two seconds!? And his friends could fight too!? What are they, a martial arts entourage!?"
She snarled and laughed at the thought when Eresa yelled at her, "Hey, Help me here, Sharpener passed out!"
…
Night had fallen on Roshi's island once again. After returning from the game, Yamcha continued with Gohan's instruction in the Wolf Fang Fist. They continued this way until the sun dwindled. Right at dusk Krillin fed everyone some dinner, more Tuna, this time, prepared in a pasta. It was eaten with haste, and now that the sun had fallen, Krillin had taken over the coaching, focusing on the Solar Flare once again. Two hours of darkness had passed when a loud wind gust howled, followed by the shout of teen floating high in the sky, "Solar Flare!" Finally, a massive burst of light exploded out, blinding the caster and the teacher. After the pain of sun spurned blindness, his teacher yelled, "You did it Gohan! And it was crazy strong!"
Gohan danced in the air, "I did it! Awesome!"
He blast another one, then another, then another, and then one more! His teacher finally stopped him in his elation, "Alright, let's get to bed then!"
The two of them descended to the beach and found Yamcha had already started a massive bonfire on the sand, so they joined him and settled in. They joked about what Yamcha had done to the teen stalker that day, and laughed about how Gohan had been so smooth earlier that day, much to the teen's displeasure. Then they all lay light hearted until Gohan asked, "Hey, Think Roshi is ok?"
Krillin laughed, "Yeah, he'll be fine."
After that last line, they grew silent. Krillin and Yamcha fell fast asleep. As they slept, Gohan took in a deep breath of the ocean and stared up at the sky, he felt a deep sense of comfort. Staring at the stars and sitting on Kame Island made him think of his father. Gohan sat up and looked at Yamcha and Krillin, then remembered his mother, brother, Piccolo, Trunks, Bulma, and Vegeta. He smiled at a thought that graced his mind, "I'm so lucky dad, you blessed me with such a wonderful family." As Gohan thought about how much these people meant to him and his father, he remembered his Dad always placing his heart into keeping them safe and sheltered from harm. He knew that same resolve had been instilled in him. He lay back down on the beach and stared back up into the sky. He spoke aloud into the night, "I love you dad."
Hope you enjoyed, thanks!
