Chapter Four
Security
"That was a good doughnut," Emma said, walking into the station, Killian in tow.
"Aye, love. That it was," Killian chuckled.
"I haven't had-" She stopped in her tracks, eyes glued to her desk.
Killian looked at it, not seeing anything but her desk. "What is it?"
Emma walked over to it. "This drawer." Emma pointed to one of the drawers on her desk that was opened. "It was closed when we left last night."
"Perhaps not," Killian said, walking over to his desk, draping his jacket over the back of the chair.
"No, I did. Someone was here while we were gone," Emma explained. Emma looked around the room, trying to spot a sign of a break in.
"Maybe your father was here late and needed a pen. He's always complaining about losing his," Killian suggested.
Emma shook her head. "I have pens on my desk he could've used and so do you." Emma
looked back at her desk, everything else seemed - no, not everything. Emma picked up her wedding picture she showed it to Killian. "You see that?"
Killian nodded. "It's us on our wedding day, love."
Emma shook her head and pointed to the bottom corner of the frame. "It's a fingerprint, a smudge. Whoever was in here had something on their hands."
"Why would someone look at our wedding picture?"
"I don't know." She set the picture down and walked over to Killian's desk. The top looked fine. She opened the top drawer and smiled. "Look." She pointed into the drawer.
Killian looked in. "Love, all that stuff was already there. I don't know how it go so messy-"
"Exactly. You're a neat freak. You wouldn't have ever let it get this messy."
In the drawer, pencils and pens were strewn out everywhere, pieces of paper were scatter and not piled in neat piles.
"David might have needed paper?"
Emma shook her head and slammed the drawer close. "No, Killian. Plus, my dad went home before us."
Killian nodded, finally accepting that Emma was right. "You're right."
Emma smiled. She looked around the room, trying to figure what to do next. "Who do you think broke in?"
"I have no clue. Perhaps we should check the tapes?" Killian asked.
"Tapes? Are you talking about the security cameras?"
Killian nodded. "Aye, that's what they're called."
Emma laughed. "We should. Hopefully, there is something there."
Emma pulled up the tape on her computer and rewound it until it reached eight fifteen PM.
Emma and Killian watched closely as a dark figure walked in.
"Who is that?" Emma asked, squinting her eyes to see if she could make out who it was.
Killian looked closer. He clenched his jaw and fist. "It's Blackbeard."
"The one you tried to start a duel with yesterday?"
Killian nodded. "That's the one." They watched as he went through Killian's desk and then Emma's. Killian clenched his fists tighter when he saw Blackbeard go through Emma's stuff. "What the devil is he doing?"
Emma stopped the tape when they watched Blackbeard leave. "I don't know, but it doesn't look like he took anything."
"He was gathering information," Killian said. "He wanted to know more about me and my new life… my family." A look flashed across Killian's face, it was a mix between angry and worry.
Emma took Killian's hand. "Hey, Killian. What's going on?"
Killian looked at her. "You're not safe here." He pulled her up, grabbed her hand, and rushed out, pulling her with him.
"Killian, wait. What are you doing?" Emma asked. She planted her feet down, making Killian stopped.
"Emma, come on," Killian said urgently. "Please."
Emma pulled Killian towards her. "Not until you tell me what you doing or what you meant."
"I'll explain later. We have to get you somewhere safe."
"Killian, it's freezing out here and you don't even have your jacket. Let's go back inside."
"No!" Killian shouted frantically.
Emma put her hand on his cheek. "Hey, what's going on?"
"Blackbeard. He wants my ship and he won't stop at anything until he gets it," Killian said.
"We've faced worse before. We can handle a bad pirate," Emma said.
"I know we can, but I can't let you do anything. He knows the way to get my ship is by threatening you or harming you and… I can't let that happen. You're my wife and you're carrying our child."
"This Blackbeard doesn't know what he's doing."
"Alas, I do."
Killian and Emma turned around just in time to see Blackbeard hit Killian in the head with the hilt of his sword, knocking him out.
"Killian!" Emma cried as she caught Killian right before he hit the ground. She slowly kneeled down, Killian in her lap. "Killian, wake up."
"He won't wake for an hour or so."
Emma glared at Blackbeard. "What do you want?"
"I want you out of the way. So, move along and let me take your husband."
"No. Why would I do that?" Emma barked.
"Look, I really don't want to hurt you and inflict Hook's wrath on me, so step aside."
"Not a chance."
Blackbeard thought about this. He could easily move the girl, but he wouldn't be able to restrain her long enough to take Hook. Then it hit him.
"You're coming with me."
Emma rolled her eyes. "You can't be serious. You think I'd come with you?"
"Aye, you will if you want your pirate to live."
Worry flashed through Emma's eyes, but she kept her expression the same. "I have magic. I can get rid of you with a wave of my hand."
"You haven't yet though. I wonder why."
Emma glanced at her stomach, but looked back at Killian, trying to cover up the motion.
Blackbeard smiled. "You're with child." It wasn't a question.
Emma's head snapped to him. "What are you talking about?"
"Oh, please. You are a dreadful liar. Now, come with me or your baby won't have a father."
Emma sucked in a breath. She could sword fight with him, but he was more skilled and she couldn't risk the baby. She also would not go with him, that was out of the question. But she didn't know if using her magic would affect the baby or not.
Blackbeard drew his sword and pointed it towards Killian. "Answer me."
Emma looked at Killian and closed her eyes, willing herself to transport to her parents house. Not a second later, she felt a whoosh of magic and a change in the ground she was on. She opened her eyes and saw that she was in the living room of her parent's house.
"I'm running late!" Emma heard her mother exclaim. She heard pounding footsteps through the hallway and then they stopped. "Emma? What are - What happened?" She rushed over to Emma's side, kneeling down next to her.
"Blackbeard," Emma growled. "He broke into the station last night. Killian was trying to get me somewhere safe when Blackbeard showed up out of the blue and knocked him out. He tried to kidnap Killian and then me, but I got away."
"Are you alright?" Snow asked.
Emma nodded. "Yeah. I was hesitant to use my magic but-" She shut her mouth. She said too much. Her mother was definitely going to know now.
Snow hid her smile well. "Why were you hesitant?"
"Um… 'cause… you know… magic is… unpredictable."
Snow nodded. "I'm sure it is in your condition."
"What do you mean?" Emma asked, trying to be clueless.
Snow leaned closer and whispered, "You're pregnant."
Emma couldn't hide the smile that grew on her face. "How did you know?"
"Come on, Emma. A mother always knows. I won't tell David."
Emma smiled. "Thanks, Mom. Killian and I don't know when we want to tell everybody."
"Tell everybody what?" David asked, walking in with Neal in tow.
Emma panicked. "Uh…"
"About Blackbeard being here. They don't want to worry the town with another crisis," Snow explained. She winked at Emma.
David nodded. "Good thinking, but he hasn't done anything." David walked in farther and then saw Killian passed out. "What happened to him?"
"Blackbeard," Emma said.
"So he did do something."
Emma nodded. "He ambushed us. He knocked Killian out. We need to stop him."
"When will he wake up?" Snow asked.
"An hour or so, maybe less."
"We shouldn't do anything rash until Hook's awake, he knows Blackbeard best," David explained.
"You're right." Emma shifted. "Help me get him comfortable on the couch."
With David's help, they got Killian onto the couch.
Emma sat down next to his head and put his head in her lap. She messed with his hair while she looked down at him. She waited patiently for him to wake up. She knew he was okay, but she was still worried.
