Lying on her stomach on the deck of the Merry, Annika was reading a book when she heard Luffy say, "Nami, shouldn't we reach the Grand Line soon?"
Sighing, Nami said, "What do you think? We just left Loguetown a few days ago. It'll take awhile for us to get there, just be patience!"
"Kay!" he grinned atop the sheep figurehead who had Pam sitting on the top of his head.
"Feel that sunshine. With weather like this it almost seems like that storm was a bad dream," she heard Sanji say.
Grinning, with her nose still in the book, Annika said, "Really Sanji, a bad dream."
"Awww…I don't mean you, Annika-chan!" Sanji exclaimed with hearts in his eyes.
"Relax, I was only teasing," she giggled.
"Hey, I see a flock of birds, starboard!" Usopp shouted.
"Are you sure?" Luffy asked looking up at Usopp in the crow's nest.
"Yeah, and they're surrounding something! I can't make it out exactly, but it's big! I wonder what it is?" as he shouted down to them.
"Maybe a fish," Luffy commented looking to his right.
"Maybe…or a small boat, a fish, I don't know," Usopp said fidgeting with his goggles.
"I've heard it's common for seabirds to flock above fish and even trail them," Sanji replied looking up.
"It is," Luffy said excitedly.
"That's right. Sounds like lunch to me." Sanji said.
"You said it! Gum-Gum…," Luffy started, "…Grab!"
Looking up from her book she saw Luffy stretch out his arm across the ocean when Usopp exclaimed, "Whoa, that's a stretch!"
"It never gets old," Sanji grinned.
With his arm stretched out he proclaimed, "I caught it! Come here!" he said as he began to bring his arm back to the ship, commenting, "It seems pretty big!"
"Nice one, Luffy!" Nami shouted.
"You're reeling in fast, dial it down or we're gonna…," but Sanji didn't get to finish because he had to dodge Luffy's arm which unfortunately hit Zoro taking a nap which caused him to be sent into the ocean.
"Oh, I'm sorry," Luffy said as he brought his arm back to his body.
"Dumbass!" Sanji exclaimed getting up.
As Usopp went to go help Zoro: she, Pam, Nami, and Sanji went over to what Luffy had grabbed which turned out to be a young girl. "That's no fish I've ever seen," Sanji replied.
"A Fishperson? Where's her webs?" Luffy said as he and Usopp walked over to them after helping Zoro.
"You moron, it's just a little kid!" Usopp said.
"Why would someone leave a child out in the ocean?" she and Nami said at the exact same time.
"Don't know, but let's get her inside," Pam replied.
"Yeah," they all said.
An hour later…
Sitting at the table between Luffy and Nami, Annika kept reading until she and everyone heard a crashing sound accompanied by a shout, "Owww…that hurt!"
Looking up from her book, she shifted her gaze over to the little girl. "Oh, you're awake. Are you hungry?" Nami questioned.
"Lucky!" the little girl exclaimed.
"I'm guessing you were shipwrecked. You are lucky, so what's your name?" Nami asked.
"Mhmmm…before asking a stranger questions it's polite to give them your name first," the little girl said.
"Good point, I'm Nami," she laughed softly, "The cook preparing that delicious soup is Sanji."
"Hi!" Sanji waved.
"The one with the scowl on his face is Zoro and despite his scowl he's a good guy."
"Just shut up," Zoro grumbled.
"The one sitting next to me is Annika and her pixie, Pam."
"Hello, are you alright little girl?" Pam asked.
"Uh huh," the little girl nodded.
"Good," Pam said while Annika smiled and waved.
"And you've already met the one on the floor, that's Usopp," Nami concluded.
"And I'm Luffy. I'm the captain of this pirate vessel!" Luffy proclaimed.
"Wha…pirates!" the little girl gasped.
"Hey, she isn't moving," Luffy said.
"There's the proper reaction," Zoro smirked looking over at Annika and Pam.
"And what's that supposed to mean?" Annika glared.
"Yeah," Pam replied.
"I'm just saying you two are a bit strange since you have no idea what's going on," Zoro said yawned.
"Hey, take that back right now you jerk!" Sanji glared.
As Sanji and Zoro glared at each other, Annika brought her hands up in front of her chest and created a small sphere between her hands. She then shot the ball at Zoro and stood up.
When the energy ball hit Zoro, it exploded causing him to fall to the ground. Breathing heavily, Zoro started to stand when he noticed Annika standing in front of him with her hands on her hips, glaring down at him. "You did that, didn't you?" Zoro glared.
"Yes I did and don't you ever make fun of me or Pam again. Do I make myself clear?" Annika threatened.
"Fine," Zoro answered but in the privacy of his own thoughts he said, Great, another girl like Nami.
"Good," Annika huffed with her hands at her sides while walking over to the door and leaving the room.
"Hey Pam, is she always like that?" Usopp whimpered as he got up.
"Well, not always, she only gets like that when she's mad, so don't forget that she's the fairy of dragon's wind and as such she can manipulate the weather somewhat, so stay on her good side," Pam explained.
Uhhh…no kidding! thought everyone except Luffy.
"That's so awesome!" Luffy chuckled.
Great, someone with frightening emotions and the other who's just plain stupid. What have we gotten ourselves into? everyone thought.
The Next Day…
After everyone ate the food the little girl had made, who they learned whose name was Apis, Nami walked out only to have Usopp yell down from the crow's nest, "We've got company! It's the Marines, and I'm not talking about one or two ships either!"
"Marines?" Nami asked looking up at Usopp then to the side railing, "Why would the Marines send out an entire fleet to this area?"
Walking out of the kitchen accompanied with Annika, Pam, and Zoro, Luffy said, "Have they come to collect the bounty on my head?"
"Shut up, this isn't about you!" Nami yelled.
"Well, maybe they feel they need an entire fleet to capture me," Luffy said.
Seeing the Marine fleet, Apis gasped knowing they were after her. "They belong to Branch 8. They're the ones I escaped from!"
As everyone started bickering, Sanji and Annika knelt down beside Apis and Sanji said, "Apis, go inside and wait, okay?"
"Alright," Apis said.
"Yeah, don't worry, we won't let them get you," Annika smiled to reassure Apis but in the privacy of her thoughts, How could they hold a child captive?
As Apis began to walk inside she suddenly looked up at some seagulls and she said while Nami and Annika looked at her, "A wind's coming. He says it's a strong one."
As Nami gave everyone orders to set sail, Nami glanced down at Apis. The ships came closer to their position while Nami waited when suddenly a strong gust of wind blew air into the sail, making the Merry sail south quickly.
As the wind died down and everyone began congratulating Nami: Zoro and Pam were looking around in concern while Annika began to feel weakened. Breaking the silence, Nami said, "Hey, you've had that brooding look for awhile."
"I guess I hoped I was imagining it, but it feels like we're not even moving," Zoro stated.
"Yeah," Annika and Pam said.
As Nami slowly began to realize the same thing, she suddenly let out a loud scream. Looking up, Sanji asked, "What's wrong, Nami? Did you lose something?"
"We're screwed! We've entered the Calm Belt! Quick, grab the oars and we'll double back!" Nami ordered.
"What? Why would we double back when the Marines are waiting for us," Usopp said.
"Look, just start paddling," Nami replied.
"Well, at least it's nice and quiet here," Luffy said casually.
"Look, in our escape from the Marines we've gone too far south and entered what is known as the Calm Belt," Nami said showing them a map.
"South? Does that mean we're in the Grand Line?" Luffy said excitedly.
"If we were in the Grand Line, do you think I would waste my time explaining. We've ended up in the Calm Belt that is on either side of the Grand Line and no one knows why but no wind blows here. Now do you understand," Nami explained.
"Nope, but it sounds like we're in big trouble," Luffy replied.
"Good, you obtained more than I thought you would. Now get the oars and start rowing," Nami said.
As Nami continued to shout out orders, Annika felt the ship begin to rock which caused Apis to say, "They're here," and as she said this giant Sea Kings appeared with the Merry on the nose of one.
Nami, paling with streams of tears running down her cheeks said, "The Sea Kings are the number one reason that no one can cross the Calm Belt. It's their main place for breeding."
Looks of horror appeared on everyone's faces except Annika, and as Zoro told everyone to stay quiet, she quietly began to say, "Winx Encha…," but was unable to finish because a giant frog leapt at the Merry making everyone on board go flying.
Apis, being unable to grab onto something was flung overboard causing Luffy to stretch out his arm and grab her. Seeing Luffy's arm stretch out she asked, "Luffy, did you eat a devil fruit?"
"Yeah," Luffy answered as he began pulling her back to the ship.
The nose of one of the giant Sea Kings caught her attention making her ask, "Hey Luffy, move your arm downwards."
Doing as she asked, he moved her down towards the Sea King's nose and as she entered it she pulled out a nose hair which caused the Sea King to sneeze making the Merry go flying.
Landing back where they came from they sailed towards WarshipIsland, Apis' home.
A Few Hours Later…
Sailing through a thick blanket of fog, Luffy sat on the Merry's figurehead until he spotted a shape in the distance. Grinning and placing a hand on his hat, he said, "Ooh, a ship, and it's gigantic!"
"Gigantic! That doesn't even begin to describe it," Zoro replied.
"No, that's the island itself. It was named WarshipIsland because it looks like a warship," Apis explained.
"It's not that big," Annika sighed and placing a hand on her hip.
"What are you talking about? It's huge!" Usopp gapped.
"Yeah," Nami agreed.
"I just meant I've seen things that are a lot bigger. Like on Domino, Bloom's home world, we saw a gigantic rock bird the size of a mountain," she explained.
"What? Are you serious?" they shouted with Usopp whimpering, "Sparks is scary. Sparks is scary."
"Yep," she giggled.
"I bet there's tons of adventures there!" Luffy shouted.
Again, what have we gotten ourselves into, all the Straw Hats except Annika and Pam thought.
As the Merry sailed into the port of the island they all kneeled and threw the rope ladder over the side then Apis stuck her head up and shouted, "I'm home everyone!"
Climbing down the ladder first, Apis conversed with villagers until all the Straw Hats stood behind her. Seeing the pirates, the villagers held up their spears and pitch forks until Luffy said pointing at them, "Hey you, I have a question?"
"Yeah, what is it?" one of them said tensing up.
"Do you know any good barbeque restaurants around here?"
"What kind of question is that, pirate?" they all gapped.
Bringing her hands up, Apis smiled, "Don't worry they're good pirates. They're nice and helpful."
"I've never heard of a nice and helpful pirate," one villager said.
"Apis, is that you child?" an elderly voice said.
"Grandpa," Apis exclaimed running up to him and giving him a hug.
"Thank you for bringing back my granddaughter," he said.
"Then do you know any good barbeque places," Luffy proclaimed.
"Sorry Luffy, but Grandpa's pork buns are the best on the island," Apis replied.
As they walked to Apis' house, they entered and they all sat down on the floor waiting for the pork buns to cook; unfortunately, they had to cook awhile so to pass the time Apis' grandfather started to tell a long, and painful boring story.
Apis had snuck out just as he started and as he continued Zoro had fallen asleep while everyone else tried to stay awake. This guy could put some teachers at Alfea to sleep, Annika thought as she fought to keep her eyes open as she leaned against the wall.
Noticing Nami crawling out of the room she decided to follow since she could see that Luffy wasn't in the room either. As they exited the room they went to where the food was cooking and as they entered, Luffy was lying on his stomach with a pork bun resting on his cheek with all the others gone.
Shocked while Nami was fuming, Annika just stood there until Nami hit Luffy over the head which in turn woke him up and causing the pork bun to fall into his mouth. "Yummy…so delicious," he said sitting up.
"What is everyone else going to eat now that you've inhaled everything!" Nami shouted.
As Nami continued to yell at Luffy, Annika noticed a trail going out the door, so she said, "Hey guys, look at this."
After looking at it they decided to follow it until it lead them to the bushes. Being Luffy, he stuck his head into the bushes and told them the trail continued.
Through the forest, over a cliff, and into a cave they heard Apis' voice. Following the sound of her voice they reached the end of the cave and first Luffy stopped and gapped at what was in front of him.
Then Annika, and finally Nami.
The thought running through their minds was, A dragon.
