"Do you seriously not know who I am?" Spencer was sitting on a log next to Derek with her knees pulled up to her chest and her arms wrapped around them. She titled her head to the side and waited for an answer. When she was met with a shurg and silence she tried a different approach. "I mean you have heard of Allison DeLaurentes and her band of pretty little liars?" The last sentence was fraught with sarcasm. "Seriously they made a movie about our lives."

"I'm not one for T.V. much. Besides I like to think for myself." Derek bumped Spencer's shoulder with his own as a sign of affection.

"I'm sure you've heard people crack jokes about my lying skills." Spencer said the last part with a chuckle filled with distain. Spencer changed her position so now she was sitting with her knees pulled up to her chest with her elbows resting on my knees and her face in her hands. It made her look like the little girl that she was and not the strong women she tried to make everyone see.

"Well sometimes lying is over rated." Derek took a seat next to Spencer and bumped his shoulder to hers. He didn't know why he was so drawn to the one particular girl. But he had this need to protect her. To make things all right. Maybe they were kinder spirits. He couldn't deny it. He knew what it was like when it seemed like the whole world is against you. "I happen to think that lying can be a useful skill."

Spencer laughed. An honest to goodness laugh. It had been too long since she laughed like that. "Well if that's the case they I must be an olympic champion of lying."

"So do you wanna tell what it is that got your lying skills so up?"Derek knew that if he didn't give the girl a push she wouldn't open up. And she needed to. She needed to tell someone who was objective; who had no connection to her past.

"It all started the summer of sophomore year." And with that Spencer began the horror story of Alison DeLaurentis. She told him about A one and two, she told him about red coat. Hell she even told him that she was once part of the A team. She told him about all of the dead bodies that kept on pilling up, and that always seem to land at their feet. She told him about the blackmail, their dirty little secrets, and all of the lies. She told him about Radly, and about her family including Jason. More important she told him the one thing she hadn't told a soul. She told him that Alison was still alive, and that they were working to bring her back home before her parents had enough and shipped her across the country. And the worst of Spencer's story was when she told him that everyone they thought cared about them seemed to be the ones that had it out for them the most.

Derek took it all in, and just listened. He didn't know what he could do or say to make things better. Hell he didn't even know if he was the one that could fix her. "So wanna go running for the hills?" Spencer cracked.

"You're not the only one with secrets and a past Spencer. I have my own story." Oh no Derek was not ready to tackle that one right now.

"Tell Mr. Hale does your past include hand cuffs, blackmail, and an ever growing body count?" Spencer challenged. "Because if it does I gotta say that I would love to her. Hell it might even do me some good."

"Another time Spencer. Right now I think I need to get you home; it's getting late." Derek stood up and offered Spencer his hand.

"Wait are you serious you can't leave me hanging like that." Spencer pouted. Derek chuckled. The two drove to the McCall house in silence. Not an uncomfortable silence either.

When they pulled up to the McCall house Derek was amused to see Scott getting out of Stiles. Jeep. This was going to be good. He could only imagine the fit that Scott would pitch when he saw Spencer crawling out of his car.

"Spencer? What the hell Derek what are you doing with my little cousin?" Scott charged at the pair with Stiles following behind.

"No Scott you don't understand." Spencer made an attempt to defend Derek. That only made Scott more angrier.

"It's okay Spencer. Why don't you go in the house, and give Scott and I a minute." The three males what Spencer leave before the yelling could start. "Alright have at it."

"What are you doing with her?" Scott huffed out through clenched teeth. "Is this some ploy to get me?

"I'm doing your job." Derek took great pleasure in taunting the teen. It was high time that Scott learned his place. The quicker Scott realized that the two needed each other the quicker the two could take down the Alpha.

"What the hell does that mean?" Scott snapped.

"It means that maybe you should start paying more attention to those you are hell bent on protecting. If you wanna be the hero Scott you need to learn the roll." With that Derek got back into his car a speed off.

Scott found Spencer in her bed writing in what he assumed was her journal. Man would he love to get his hands on that thing. Things between the two of them have been tense. It's not like the two of them didn't get along; it was more like they didn't know each other enough to even come to the decision if they did or did not like each other.

"Hey Spence can we talk?" Scott knocked on Spencer's door frame.

"Sure." Spencer put her journal down and motioned for Scott to take a seat on her bed.

"Listen I know that I haven't been around a lot, and I know that failed you. You're my cousin in a strange city and I left you out to dry. That's my fault and I plan in fixing that. I guess what I am saying is that I am here if you need me or if you just want to talk."

"I'm doing okay, but thanks for the offer." Spencer gave Scott and reassuring smile. "But I'll let you know if I do."
