AN: I found my book. Though, technically, I could have done this chapter... I guess I'm looking for a new beta? Someone who can deal with my sudden bursts of writing/going on hiatus. (I should be working on my OC fic...) Oh, this is un-beta'd. I also plan on finishing the next... 6 chapters by May. I hope.
Song: Eye Examination (Shiryoku Kensa) by 40meter-P feat. GUMI
Disclaimer: Fanfiction. Also, look at my interpretation of this song. Then look at the manga. Do either characters fit Megumi's "character"? No? I thought so.
There was nothing but amusement. That was all Tsuna could feel when he picked up the prefect's presence. While, normally, he would have been horrified to find out that someone had taken upon stalking him, No Good-Tsuna, the attention from the prefect was nice. Despite what others tended to think about their "demonic" prefect, he was actually quite nice if one knew him well.
Tsuna shook his head, amused by the thought of Hibari being nice. However, even he could admit that Hibari was fair in his way of thinking—it was the discipline that might have been too extreme. Yet, Tsuna couldn't personally say that he had ever been on the receiving end of those tonfas as he did his best to follow the rules.
However, right now, Tsuna was almost certain that the situation, while it brought some entertainment to his horrible, monotonous life, was illegal. From the very little bit of law he knew, the brunette was almost certain that stalking was a crime of some sort.
Yet, despite how awkward it was whenever he knew Hibari was by (thankfully, the prefect would leave way before dinner was ready—he could only imagine what would happen if Hibari knew of his mother's tendency to forget he existed), Tsuna was also thankful that the dark-haired prefect cared enough to resort to this. (Tsuna completely ignored the voice in his head that said that Hibari was only watching to see if he was a carnivore.)
The secrets that he held, though, weren't ones that he was ready to share yet. There was no doubt that Tsuna would be facing a murderous prefect if he ever found out about Tsuna's secrets but at the same time, he couldn't help but think that Hibari might be the only one who understood how he felt.
However, because of the raven-hair's habit of observing him, Tsuna started to watch the other out of mild curiosity. With that, he noticed things that others would have never noticed, things that he could sympathize with.
Just like Tsuna, there was no one close to Hibari. Tsuna admitted that, sadly, Tetsuya Kusakabe seemed to be the closest to Hibari, yet he also didn't quite understand what Hibari was going through. However, Tsuna understood what Hibari was going through, to some extent, and he could sympathize with the older teen.
The brunette knew the biting sting of being friendless and he knew that despite the idea of peace of quiet, it wasn't something that he would choose. If there was one thing that Tsuna understood, it was that loneliness was the worst thing that one could suffer from.
The brunette could admit that it was nice to be acknowledged (albeit, in a horrible way), so it wasn't a complete loss, yet he knew that it would be nice to befriend someone without questioning their motive—having it happen a few times, Tsuna knew that others would use him for their own gain (most notably was his own brother), so he was naturally wary of those near him. However, even he could admit that it was lonely, hiding his true self for the benefit of his brother.
Tsuna felt a bit unnerved though, that he could sympathize with the other. While he was mildly happy that someone could relate to him, the brunette didn't want anyone else to go through things he did to reach the point he did. However, at the same time, Tsuna knew that Hibari was a bit different, as his personality became "warped" by similar experiences.
There was a time where Tsuna knew he could have chosen to become like Hibari, emotionless and violent, yet he chose to become kind, caring and selfless for reasons even he didn't understand. It was based on that Tsuna could presume that inside, where no one could see, was a broken person much like himself.
"Did you hear? No Good-Tsuna was playing on the same team as Ietsuna. No wonder they lost."
Laughter followed, and he could tell it was more than two people—if he had to guess based on the variety of laughs, there were at least five people.
"He really is no good at anything. At least, with him on their team, we won't lose to those bastards."
It almost hurt, the words that he heard, but Tsuna was too used to hearing about his "uselessness", and he didn't take it as an insult at this point. It was just a normal, everyday thing that he had to deal with.
Instead of commenting (and making himself seem like a bigger fool), he walked away, ignoring the pain in his chest. While he didn't view those words as an insult, it didn't mean that the stinging effects had lessened.
Smiling slightly, he opened the window, and turned towards the general area where he suspected the raven-haired prefect to be. While he knew of the consequences for the thing he was about to say, Tsuna was going to do it anyways. "Hibari-san, would you like to come in?"
The effect was almost instantaneous—the brunette could feel a sudden drop in temperature, and he swore that there was an almost lethal murderous intent hanging in the air. However, he kept the smile on his face, hoping that the other would come in to speak with him. Without waiting for an answer (as he was almost certain that it would lead to him being bodily harmed), Tsuna walked away from the window.
It was shocking to hear rustling, and he turned back to the window to see the school prefect climbing in through said window. It brought a lightness to his heart, as if he rather be with one of the most scariest people in school, and he admitted that he felt safe as soon as it was apparent that Hibari wouldn't harm him… intentionally.
With a small, unnoticeable sigh, Tsuna made his request.
Had it been anyone but Hibari, Tsuna wouldn't have even considered voicing his request. However, the brunette knew that the prefect would hear him out, and he prayed to every deity that Hibari would even consider helping him out.
However, at this moment, Tsuna was hoping that the prefect wasn't dying from shock (despite how illogical that sounded). The other hadn't spoken, hadn't made a single move, ever since he had made his one lone request.
"Hibari-senpai, I know this is too much to ask, but could you please train me?"
He felt a bit peeved—he trained hard to make that request, making sure not to stutter and make himself a bigger fool than he already was—but all the prefect could do was stare at him as if he either had a death wish or he was crazy.
Hibari, on the other hand, felt his expression change to something akin to amusement once he saw that other wasn't planning on giving up, and he smirked, suddenly making the connection between what he knew would eventually happen and what was happening right now. Despite the fact that he knew Tsuna would come to him for help, Hibari hadn't counted on the fact that it would come this soon, especially since he was just invited in the room (generally, anyone who invited him into a room and didn't immediately get bitten to death would cower in fear for the next hour or so.)
"Of course, herbivore." The last part was added to make it sound less genuine, to add a stinging bite at the end of a nice sentence—that was rare on its own, but to not reject a proposal with no obvious benefits was certainly new.
The way the brunette's face lit up with his agreement made Hibari a bit uncomfortable—he wasn't used to meeting someone's expectations, and that added weight made him regret ever agreeing to help the brunette out with learning self-defense.
However, the temptation of fighting someone as powerful as Tsunayoshi, of being able to train someone into being his ideal sparring partner, outweighed the cons of having to train someone. To be honest, Hibari was almost certain that it wouldn't be so much training as it would be sparring—Tsunayoshi seemed to have an innate talent in fighting, so it wouldn't require much teaching.
Hibari noted that Tsunayoshi was more relaxed now, but then the brunette tensed. Hibari didn't know anything that could have caused such a sudden change in attitude, other than a surprise attack, but he didn't sense anything that would say that was the cause.
Seeing the clock, Hibari noted that it was almost dinner time, and that he should leave. However, something made him want to stay.
And when he heard only one person being called down for dinner, he understood.
Tsuna knew that Hibari found out about his home conditions, at least to some extent. (Actually, he wouldn't be shocked if Hibari knew about his home conditions before now, since the prefect seemed to keep tabs on everyone—the power of technology.)
"Tsunayoshi," Hibari said suddenly. He sounded awkward, almost embarrassed and if it wouldn't have gotten him killed, Tsuna would say that he was cute. "Would you like to have dinner with me?"
"Yes, Hibari-senpai." Tsuna didn't expect to sound so formal, but he suspected that it was due to Hibari having an intimidating presence that demanded politeness. It wasn't as bad as Reborn's presence, but Tsuna had a feeling that if Hibari had time to work on his (especially with Reborn training him), he could be much more intimidating than Reborn himself.
Hibari simply left his room the way he came, through the window. Not sure if he was to follow or not, he shouted, "I'm going out." Not bothering to wait for a response, if there was one, he closed his eyes and steeled himself to hop out the window.
Hibari watched with mild (hidden) amusement as Tsunayoshi jumped into the tree, trying to grab the trunk. (At least he wasn't hugging it, yet.) The brunette was slowly making his way across the branch, using his arms for balance, and he managed to make it to the other side.
Hibari stayed where he was—on the rooftop of the house next to the tree and to Tsunayoshi's house—and nearly smiled when the brunette finally made it to his resting place.
The family was unusual, but he had to admit that he could somewhat empathize with the brunette—he knew the "pain" of returning home to where no one really cared if he was there or not. (The difference lying in that his parents were rarely home, and Tsunayoshi just seemed to be ignored in favor of his twin brother.)
He stared at Tsunayoshi, who was gasping for breath, though the prefect assumed it was due to nerves (he'd hate to think of what training would be like if the brunette was already gasping from a lack of energy.)
Tsuna soon seemed to get over the fact that he had just faced one of his biggest challenges so far, and he smiled at the prefect. Hibari couldn't help but think that the brunette was either trying too hard to be friendly, or that he was a natural bookworm that wouldn't (couldn't) survive in the real world. (Or maybe both.)
It was only after threatening to shove a tonfa into his mouth (which wasn't pleasant, if Hibari believed the last person he did that to) that Tsunayoshi had stopped the fearful glances downwards and the near screams that would leave his lips every time he nearly missed the rooftop. (It was only because it was Dame-Tsuna that the residents ignored it.)
Hibari found the other's company to be almost pleasant, had it not been for the fact that he seemed terrified. (He despised cowardice when it was unwarranted.) He watched Tsunayoshi slowly make his way down the tree to the ground. (It was sort of amusing, in a way, watching him grip the trunk while sliding down.)
At least, Tsuna noted, he was on somewhat friendly terms with the prefect. Though, glancing at the barely concealed tonfas, Tsuna couldn't help but think that it might be more of an acquaintanceship than a friendship.
(He still sort of hated the fact that it only stemmed because they could empathize with each other.)

AN: I was originally going to have the lyrics scattered in here, but then... I realized that it wouldn't really match. So this does bring them closer, and I think I gave Tsuna a phobia of heights. If not that, at least a good amount of fear. And did I mention I'd like a beta? (If you'd like to, please PM me?)
