Mark IV: Will You Marry Me?

Pepper walks through the airport with her bag rolling by her side. She is so happy to finally be back in New York for two reasons: it's a city she can navigate around in blindfolded even if you spun her around several times and because Tony's here. The thought of being back in the same city with him brings a happy smile to her face, especially because he's picking her up from the airport.

Pepper holds her cell phone to her ear as she listens to it ring. Finally, it picks up and she hears his voice on the other end.

"Tony?" Pepper asks. "I'm already here. Please tell me you're not still on the road."

Tony: I'm here, I'm here. I'll always be on time for you.

Pepper scoffs. Before she says anything else, she hears something strange on his end. It sounds like other people's voices which she expected because it's an airport, but what has her suspicious is the fact that she specifically hears Thor's booming voice on the other side. Pepper is about to ask about that but can't when Tony unexpectedly hangs up. She looks at her phone screen oddly before putting it back in her bag. She would call back but doesn't bother since Tony's here. For all she knows, maybe Thor is here because Tony needed someone to carry her bags (he certainly wasn't going to do it).

Pepper takes a turn and enters the common area of the airport. She looks around for Tony and is wondering where he is because he shouldn't be hard to find, especially if Thor is with him. Not only did she expect to spot the God of Thunder from miles away but there would be fangirls surrounding Tony like a swarm of bees. She continues to walk and thinks about how much her feet will hurt because she didn't think through about wearing her heels at the airport.

After looking around for a bit and finding nothing, Pepper takes out her phone to call him but stops herself when she sees a text message from Tony. She finds it weird that it tells her to please say yes because she isn't sure what the question is. Then again, it's natural of him to do that since she says no to almost everything he asks.

Instead of replying to his text, she continues walking and when she enters another atrium, she stops when she sees all of The Avengers standing in a row. Each of them holds a plain white poster board in their hands and Jane and Betty are on each end, holding cameras to capture whatever this moment may be. Pepper takes a second before slowing walking over, rolling her bags by her side.

Then, the poster boards start being flipped over from left to right. Each of them has a different word on it:

Clint's: Virginia Potts,

Thor's: Will

Steve's: You

Bruce's: Marry

Tony's: Me

Natasha's: ?!

Virginia Potts, will you marry me?!

Pepper reads the message and her heart swells up in the most joyful way possible as tears start to form in her eyes. She starts to cry happily and laugh, holding her hands to her mouth to contain herself. She looks directly at Tony and can see how much he loves her based on his face alone. She could only guess that he had planned to do this for a while now and this simplistic proposal beats any extravagant idea that may have come his way.

She feels so ecstatic right now. Tony just asked her to marry him.

And she's happy for that because if he didn't ask sooner or later, she was going to ask him herself.

Pepper ignores the pain in her feet as she begins running over to him in her heels. Tony drops his sign and opens his arms for her. Pepper basically jumps in his arms and he holds her, stepping back. She sobs excitedly as her heels fall off her feet and onto the floor.

"I made a promise," he says to her, "the promise to make you happy. How am I doing so far?"

She laughs. "Tony Stark, yes, I will always be your Mrs. Stark."

Tony exhales with relief. "Thank god. She said yes!"

After hearing that yes, which sounds so foreign coming out of her mouth, Tony is content hearing a no from her for the rest of his life.

The Avengers cheer and so do passing passengers and staff in the airport. Tony puts Pepper down but still holds her close as he pulls out the ring box. He opens it and shows her the ring. It's a light gold band with a mounted salt and pepper rose-cut diamond in the center. He slips it on her finger and she screams hysterically, hugging Tony again. She sways from side-to-side and Tony takes in the lovely scent of her strawberry blonde hair that tickles his cheeks. Pepper parts a bit from their embrace and starts to kiss him.

This is their first kiss as fiancés and they love it.

They know that not only The Avengers are taking their pictures. They're in a public place which means that in the next hour, the world will know.

The two of them part as they go to hug their friends who congratulate them even though they helped in making this happen. Tony and the males all shake hands and do those guy hugs similar to those in fraternity houses, and Pepper hugs and kisses the cheeks of all the girls, showing off the rings. Eventually, they switch and the guys all take turns hugging and swinging Pepper around, and the girls give Tony a big group hug.

In the midst of it all, Tony and Pepper keep their eyes on one another.

At this moment in time, that didn't matter because all they notice is each other.

He asked her to marry him, she said yes, they're going to get married.

Simple as that.
