Disclaimer: Not Rowling, not mine. I just own the bits of the idea that are mine. (I've read so many stories, both published and fan fiction, that I honestly can't tell you if I've pulled ideas inadvertently from somewhere but I'm trying to make an effort to not do so.)
A/N: Well, well, well...been a while it seems. I'm not dead...although I was horrifically sick over the Christmas/New Year holidays. That blew. Anyway. I'm not totally happy with this chapter. Bits of it were a bit choppy to write. I apologize for that. If you spot any errors, feel free to point them out...politely please. If you flame...well, cooking is a hobby of mine so that's what they'll be used for.
Side Note: I adore fan art so if you feel inspired by my fic(s) to draw something, I would greatly appreciate being able to see it. I can barely draw a stick figure so seeing art done by others is a treat to me. I also find it to be inspiring...gets the creative juices bubbling so to speak.
Molly Weasley was in rather rough shape as she shuffled into the kitchen at Twelve Grimmauld Place. She was worried sick about her youngest child and the boy she loved like he was her own. Neither of them had been found, nothing had even been heard from or about them and it had been four days already! They could be captured by Death Eaters, being killed or tortured, at any time.
Mindlessly working to prepare some tea for those who preferred it and other drinks for those who didn't, Molly waited for the Order members Dumbledore had asked to meet him that evening. Without her consciously registering it, Molly was joined by her husband and Sirius. She didn't notice but they exchanged a glance and Arthur was soon urging her to sit while Sirius got the rest of the refreshments gathered and set up in the center of the table.
A bit later, how long was unknown to Molly, everyone Dumbledore had asked to meet was there. Molly, Arthur, Sirius, Severus, Minerva, and Remus were those gathered. Tonks hadn't been able to get away from the Auror office according to Remus. With little to no fanfare, the headmaster spoke a sentence that grabbed Molly's attention entirely.
"I have heard from Harry."
"Is Ginny with him? Are they both alright? Where are they? Are they going to be coming back here?" the redheaded mother fired questions off faster than most of the others could understand them. Fortunately, the headmaster was one of those that could.
"Please Molly calm yourself. To answer your questions, yes I believe Ginny is with him. He indicates that they are both in excellent health and safe. As for where they are, I still do not know. None of the tracking methods I have attempted have worked. I also do not believe either of them will be coming back here willingly at the moment," Dumbledore explained.
"What?" Molly almost screeched. Fortunately for the ears of those around her, she had hashed her vocal cords up a bit with crying so when she went to yell, her voice cracked just enough to prevent loud volumes.
"Harry sent me a letter. I have had no luck in tracing its original location, my response, or the owl I sent my response with."
"But what about Ginny?" here she had tears in her eyes.
A smile tipped up the corners under his whiskers as he replied, "Harry seemed to indicate that Ginny had intentions of contacting you and soon."
Those words were barely out of his mouth when a bang echoed near the ceiling and a cloud of neon pink smoke appeared. Before anyone could do more than exclaim in shock, a rolled piece of parchment fell to the table and bounced to a rest merrily. The frozen tableau was broken by the headmaster reaching forward to pick up the scroll only to be shocked forcefully enough that his hair, beard included, started to frizz out enough he looked a bit like a puffball sitting at the table. Muffled snorts of laughter were heard but Molly paid no attention as she reached out tentatively…and picked up the scroll with no trouble whatsoever. Recognizing her daughter's handwriting on the outside, she wasted no time in opening and reading it.
Mum and Dad,
I'm sorry I left like I did but as you have probably gathered by now, based on the fact that Dumbledore got a letter from Harry a bit ago, I have met up with him. We are both safe and sound. Yes, I knew he would be leaving the Dursley's household. Yes, I was prepared to join him. Yes, I carried my stuff with me. Anyway, we're both tucked away in a little hideout-
You call this place little Gin? Did you fall out of your rocker?
Okay yes fine. I get it. This place isn't so little. Sheesh, don't get your hair in a twist Harry! Ah…. Yes, that was Harry obviously. I'm dictating this and he's apparently putting in commentary.
Oh you know you get a kick out of it Ginny. Besides, I spent my entire morning working on my blasted homework. I have to get my kicks somewhere you know!
ANYWAY! Yes, this place is adequately large enough and comfortable enough for the two of us. In fact, Harry had to come find me after he got done working on his homework. By the way, yes I have pretty much finished mine mum. Don't worry, I have no intention of slacking off on my work. I'm not Ron you know. Where was I? Oh yes, this place is great. I've got my own room and it is gorgeous! I designed it myself after all so of course I like it!
Actually, she helped me design and decorate the entire place. She's got quite the skill at interior decorating. Sirius, if you're there, you might want to ask her to help you after all of this is over and done with.
Oh shut up you! Anyway, there's a library here and a media lounge. Harry's room is upstairs and I must say, I'm a bit jealous of his bathroom! It is so much better than mine. I'm debating remodeling my bathroom actually. His tub is huge and mine isn't. How can a girl get in a proper soak in a tub that small, I ask you?
Uh…Ginny? You're rambling.
Molly actually let out a watery little giggle, having started crying with relief at her daughter's reassurances. The byplay between the two was humorous. Attention around the room was drawn back to her as she wasn't reading aloud.
Oh. Oops. Sorry mum, dad. I guess you don't want to know about things like that right now. Well. I guess all I can say is that we're safe but we're not coming back to headquarters right now. I don't even know if either of us will at all this summer. For one, Harry just got out of a place where he was trod upon all the time. Yes, Sirius is there but the headmaster tends to override him when it comes to Harry and that isn't right. The headmaster isn't even his guardian so why is he having such a strong say in Harry's life outside of school?
Ginny.
Right. Sorry, rambling again. Its just that topic gets me agitated. Me? I simply cannot abide by having to deal with Snape. And don't you dare tell me to respect the man! He was perfectly willing to try and steal my PERSONAL property right in front of you. If you ask me, he deserved the broken nose he got!
Merlin I wish I could have seen that!
Nor do I wish to deal with Ron. To be honest, I don't wish to deal with you either mum. I love you dearly but you're too stifling. You keep calling me a child and trying to stuff me into a tiny, toddler shaped box. I'm not a child and I'm not a pushover. I've faced Evil and come out stronger for it. I haven't been a child by your standards in years. I ask you to trust me and let me go. I promise to keep up writing to you and while I hope you can do the same without lecturing or being mad at me, or Harry, I understand. Just remember, Howlers won't reach us. We've got more security measures in place than Hogwarts has and that's all I will say on the matter.
She's right Mr. and Mrs. Weasley. We're as safe here as we are when at Hogwarts. Safer actually. I got curious last year and looked up the safety measures there. There are more here, stronger and tighter too. Please don't be mad but if you must be, be mad at me beca-
IF YOU SAY THIS IS YOUR FAULT HARRY JAMES POTTER I'M GOING TO HEX YOU AND MAKE YOUR BOOGIES BOX YOUR EARS!
Molly flat out laughed, drawing some truly curious looks now.
Ginny, the letter.
Right. Fine. We'll discuss this later Potter. Anyway. Right now the only ones who can read this are you mum and dad. We've spelled it- yes we can do magic undetected. Don't ask. We'll tell you later. We've spelled it and protected to the best of our abilities from snoopers. This includes the headmaster and the twins. Tell Sirius to expect a letter too. Harry is writing that one next. We just thought you'd like to hear from both of us.
Anyway, I had better end this or it will be truly epic in length. I love you both very much and I hope you can trust me. I will write again in a few days to a week depending on how long it takes me to finish my homework. Harry says bye but he had to go get whatever it is he is making out of the oven before it burns. He almost forgot about it.
All my love,
Ginny
She handed the letter to Arthur and sat back in her chair, eyes closed. She was going to wait until her husband had read it to see what he thought before she gave anyone else a glimpse at what she was thinking. A few moments later, Arthur touched her elbow and handed the letter back to her. Their eyes met and with the tiniest of smiles and nods they were on the same page.
Arthur turned to the others as Molly turned her attention to carefully rolling the letter back up. "It was a letter from Ginny with some input from Harry. They are safe and currently have no intentions of coming back here."
"May I read the letter?" Dumbledore asked, his hand held out as if he expected it to be put into his hand just like that. Molly found herself clutching it to her with surprising resentment to the question and action.
"I'm sorry Albus but they said that there are enough protections and spells on it to ensure that only Molly and I can read it," Arthur responded calmly. "After all, it shocked you soundly enough that your hair is still going a bit bonkers."
Molly noticed that was indeed true and put a hand up to hide a smile before she spoke and shocked everyone but her husband, "I think we can leave off the search for Harry and Ginny. From what they said, we're not going to find where they are hiding and they can protect themselves. Ginny said they've got everything they need there. They've even been working on their schoolwork!"
"Molly? Are you feeling well?"
"Quite well Minerva. I'm still worried about them but it seems as if they've thought of everything. Ginny was able to answer a number of my worries and considering the fact that we hadn't found them yet, it stands to reason that she is telling me the truth." A couple of people around the table were looking at the Weasley matriarch as if she had somehow grown a third arm without the use of magic.
Arthur, on the other hand, was reading the subtle signs that only a very select few could and knew that his wife was reaching the end of what she could handle for the day, despite her extremely calm façade. So, with that in mind, he stood and took her hand to help her stand.
"I think that we should be finished here for the evening. We're not going to find any more answers and I for one would like to seek my bed. Work was a bit tiring today and I would like to rest. Shall we my dear?" Arthur completely over rode everyone else as he lead his wife out of the room. As he turned back to close the door, he flashed a look at Sirius. The black haired Lord Black gave him the minutest of nods and settled deeper into his seat, intent on watching those still around him.
Upstairs in the room they claimed as theirs when they stayed at Sirius's home, Arthur threw up silencing and privacy wards as soon as they had the door closed behind them. Molly broke down completely. Gathering her to him, Arthur lead her to sit on the edge of the bed and simply held her as she cried out all the worries and fears that had been permeating her body over the last four to five days.
Hearing from his daughter and Harry had been a huge relief for him too but he wasn't the worrier that Molly was. Soon she would start to balance out and what had been happening would truly sink in. For now though, she was in desperate need of sleep and it seemed her body was finally driving the point home with some force. She had stopped crying and was falling asleep leaning on him.
Gently he got her stretched out on her side and tucked under a throw blanket she kept at the foot of the bed. He removed the charms around the room and door before grabbing a book he had been reading and settling into one of a pair of plush old chairs tucked into the corner. An undetermined time later, a soft knock sounded.
He hurried over and opened it to find who he expected; Sirius. He let him in and they settled into the chairs. Arthur put up the same charms he had earlier but centered them around himself and Sirius. He wasn't going to wake Molly up with chatter if he could at all help it. She was worn through.
"There was a message for you in the letter they sent Molly and I. Ginny said to tell you that Harry was writing you a letter this evening and that it would have the same spells and protections on it that were on ours," Arthur didn't beat around the bush.
Sirius sighed and relaxed a bit. "Was there anything else in the letter? I was surprised to see Molly laughing to tell you the truth."
Arthur told him the contents of the letter, including the play by play of the two teens. He himself was chuckling over a couple parts and Sirius flat out laughed over Ginny's scolding of Harry. "What happened downstairs after we left?" Arthur asked after he finished.
"Well Albus doesn't think we should stop looking. He was also rather put out that you wouldn't let him read that letter although he seemed to think that you would let him do so at some point soon." Sirius paused before he hesitantly continued, "Sometimes I think he forgets that we are people and not pawn on a life sized chessboard."
Arthur couldn't help the snort that came out, "If chess is to be the game, I would rather have Minerva or Ron at the lead. I've played all three of them and Albus is decidedly the lesser player of the three." Sirius couldn't help it and burst into laughter again.
The two spent the remainder of the evening talking quietly until Molly woke enough to alert them to the late hour and all three of them sought their pillows.
Harry yawned as he reached the top of the stairs after he finished the letter he was going to send to Sirius in the morning. It was nothing special; the man obviously knew where they were. It kept up the appearance that he was as clueless as the rest of them though. The true beauty of the setup he and Ginny had come up with was that the letter could contain a topic completely different than expected and no one else would know. It was going to make covert communications much easier. Not quite as covert as their journals but that was just for them at the moment.
Just before he passed near the door to the media room he noticed that there was light shining out under the door. Gently opening it, he noticed that Ginny had fallen asleep while watching what had swiftly become her favorite movie; Pride and Prejudice. Specifically the version done by the BBC network back in the nineties. Apparently it was the truest to the book out of those she had found. Harry didn't get it, but then he hadn't read the book and he had only seen small bits of any of the movies.
With a shake of his head he turned off the electronics, ending the looping display of the disk menu. Turning to Ginny, he noted that she was curled up in a ball and her head had tilted at a rather uncomfortable angle. As he gazed at her, he debated what he should do. He could stretch her out fully, making her as comfortable on the couch as he could or he could try to get her downstairs to her own room. The latter wasn't really a good idea considering the stairs and he was tired. Carrying her himself or levitating her down the stairs could be problematic. Dobby had already retired to his suite of rooms under the kitchen and Harry was loathe to interrupt the elf's time to himself, whatever it was he did be it sleep or knit or even stare blankly at the wall.
Finally he decided to just take her into his room. She could sleep on his bed; the bed was certainly large enough for the two of them to sleep and never touch each other. It was worlds more comfortable than trying to sleep on the couch because despite how comfortable couch was, it wasn't meant for sleeping on.
Putting the throw blanket she was using on the couch back, he gulped. She was wearing a singlet tank top and the tiniest pair of shorts he had ever seen in his life. It was obviously her normal sleepwear but it was probably the sexiest thing he'd ever seen, bar none. Taking a breath to steady himself he slipped one arm under her knees and the other around her back. A quick swoop and scoop had her snuggled right up against his chest with her head just at his shoulder.
Merlin she was tiny! At least it seemed that way to him; she felt feather light. Normally her personality and vivacious nature made one completely forget her small physical frame.
Once through his already open door, he used his foot to nudge it gently closed before going to the bed. It was a bit of a juggle to get the covers pulled back but he did it and soon had her settled against the pillows and covered back up. He went through his normal routine to get ready for bed and slipped under the covers on the opposite side of the bed from Ginny. He wanted nothing more than to slide to the middle of the bed and pull her to him but he didn't. Instead he rolled so his back was to her and forced himself to give in to the fatigue that was pulling him under in soft waves.
Morning light was streaming between the curtains and in through the bathroom when he woke the next morning. Unsure exactly what it was that woke him, he stayed still as if still asleep. Listening carefully he heard someone breathing beside him. Memory drenched him as he remember tucking Ginny into his bed the night before. The breathing said she was still there.
The fact that they were snuggled up together, her tucked firmly against his side with his arm draped around her, his hand at her waist was another tell.
His eyes popped open, inadvertently tensing his entire body, and when he turned his head toward her, their gazes locked. A wry quirk of his lip; "Hi?"
Ginny blushed and dropped her head back down to the pillow with a groan. "Harry!" She was quiet for a moment, "How did I end up in here anyway? Last thing I remember is watching a movie."
"I found you sound asleep with the menu playing. Dobby had already retired for the night and I was too tired to try and get you back downstairs without hurting one of us. So instead I just brought you in here; it is more comfortable than the couch anyway. We did start out on opposite sides of the bed though," here Harry blushed a little as he remembered wanting to hold her before he fell asleep.
Ginny popped up so she was on her elbow and looked around. They were in the middle of the bed. "Looks like we both moved around some during the night." Harry wasn't really paying attention to anything, just gazing at her as he liked to do and was caught off guard when she suddenly turned to look back at him and caught him. The look in his eyes was enough to take her breath away and her own feelings for him bubbled up within her, fully out of her control.
Harry saw the emotion in her eyes and couldn't help himself. He sat up fully, keeping their gazes locked, and cupped the side of her jaw with his hand, his thumb absently playing over her bottom lip. Seeing the affirmative in her eyes and the way she ever so slightly leaned into his touch, He gently brought his mouth down to hers in a soft gentle kiss.
A moment later he pulled back and looked at her. Ginny's eyes were sparkling and the smile she had on her face was one he'd never seen before on her. He leaned in for another quick peck, completely unable to help himself.
"I've wanted to do that for a long, long time. Be mine?" he asked after he'd pulled away again.
The grin that lit up her face was breathtaking and she responded with a kiss that made his head spin. "Always," was her answer after she pulled back.
"Brilliant," Harry grinned. "But as much as I would love to stay here with you, we should get going. Sirius was going to come over again this morning and I don't think we want him to catch us if we can help it. He'd never let up on the teasing."
Ginny slid to the edge of the bed, "What time is he going to be here?"
"Just before lunch," a glance at the clock told him it was just after nine. "We've got some time. How about some dancing to warm up for the day?"
"Meet in the studio in a few minutes?" After Harry nodded Ginny was out the door and away.
Sirius appeared in an alley just down the block from the Hideaway and walked calmly toward his destination. Headquarters had gotten a little crazy with people dropping by for various reasons so he had taken the chance offered and slipped out early in the chaos. Harry had invited him to lunch in the letter he sent last night but it wasn't likely that he would care if Sirius was over an hour early. As he reached the hideaway the wards recognized and admitted him. If they hadn't, he would have never even known they were there and hiding something.
Once through the front door, the only one that he was aware of actually, he moved through the great room through to the inner door. A peek into the library showed it was empty and so was the kitchen when he got there. The sparing and exercise rooms were both empty as well so he made his way up the stairs. Upstairs it was easy to tell where the teens were. The media room door was open showing it to be empty and there was music playing in the studio.
He froze in the doorway to the studio when he saw the way Harry and Ginny were moving around the room. To his slightly uneducated eyes, it seemed like they were blurring as they moved. The fast, upbeat music came to a stop and so did the two teens. Instead of breathing heavily as Sirius expected, they were puffing a bit and laughing as they turned to face him.
"Hey Sirius! You're early!" Harry grinned, clearly in as good a mood as his laughter indicated.
"I got the chance to sneak away early. So what are you two up to today?"
Ginny had finished turning off the sound system and came over as she answered, "Warming up a bit. We were planning on doing some sparring and this is a more entertaining way to warm up than running laps could ever be. It helps that it is good for stamina too."
"Okay?" Sirius didn't truly see how dancing of all things was relevant to the defense and dueling training the two undertook.
"He doesn't get it," Harry shook his head at Ginny.
After thinking for a moment, Ginny hit upon an idea that might just clue Sirius in. "Come on," she left the room, beckoning the others to follow her. They went downstairs and into the training room where she stepped into the center of room before turning to face the two males.
"Attack me."
Sirius stuttered to a stop. "What?" Harry figured out what Ginny was getting at and moved to the wall, content to lean against it and watch his girl wow his godfather.
"You heard me the first time Sirius. Attack me."
"With what?"
Ginny graced him with a look that indicated just how idiotic he was being. "The pumpkin pie in your shoe! With spells you nit!"
Sirius gave a little grin and shrug before drawing his wand. "If you're sure Ginny. I'll stick to harmless spells though; just in case."
Ten minutes later Sirius was bent over puffing more than a little while Ginny stood calmly in the center of the room, a bit winded but not tired. He'd fired as many spells at her as fast as he could and he hadn't hit her. At all. Sirius wasn't a slouch when it came to casting speed either. Before he'd been sent to Azkaban, he had been one of the fastest casters in the Order and it hadn't taken him very long to get back up to that level after he'd recovered from his stint in the prison.
"How on earth are you not completely exhausted or even hit by one spell?" he puffed out as he stood up.
Tilting a shoulder up she responded, "Higher stamina, agility, and awareness as well as better balance."
Sirius blinked, "Okay, I'll buy that. But how?"
Both teens burst into laughter at the perplexed look on his face. "Really Sirius. We told you this already. What got us down here so you could shoot colorfully lit spells at me?" Ginny teased.
"Are you serious?" the older wizard barely held back a squawk of surprise.
"No, you are."
Ginny covered her face with one hand, "Harry!"
Harry held up his hands in surrender. "Sorry, I had to. Anyway, yes dancing is what helped us with all that; in fact, often a dancer's body is put through more of a work out than a professional athlete's is. The problem is, we've gotten as far along that way as we can and we need help. We can't push each other harder by ourselves anymore. Sure, we can learn new spells from books and such but we can't learn anymore little nuances that'll improve our casting or dueling or whatever else I can't think of at the moment."
"That makes sense," Sirius nodded. "To be honest, I'm a bit shocked at what the two of you are able to do just working to this point by yourselves."
"Not entirely by ourselves. We've asked random questions of various people and studied others over the last few years. What you see is an amalgamation of all that plus plenty of time working in the Room of Requirement at Hogwarts as much as we could."
"Alright. Now what do you need?"
"Someone to teach us without letting anything slip; someone we can trust completely like we do you," Harry answered. Deciding that they could have this discussion in a more comfortable setting, Ginny lead the others to the kitchen. Harry finished just as they went.
Sirius was quiet for a few minutes, obviously in thought. "Well, I think Remus would be one person we could talk to. He's good at secrets and I know we can trust him with this. He hasn't been searching for you two as hard as many think he is. He told me that since I'm not worried, he isn't. Tonks might be another one but I would have to sound her out first to know for certain. Most of the others are entirely out of the question. Moody, for example, is Albus's man through and through. Minerva is entirely too straight laced." He was quiet again for a few minutes before shaking his head. "Right. I think I'll talk to Remus for sure and sound out Tonks to see where she stands in the scheme of things. I think going beyond those two would be unwise as it would likely bring all this to the attention of one busybody Headmaster."
"That makes sense to me. Ginny?" Harry responded. The petite redhead nodded before her face turned bright red at the grumble her stomach then chose to let out. The males laughed before Harry said, "Come on. Lets go see if Dobby is ready to feed the beasts."
"My Lord, I bring news that I believe you will find of great interest," the death eater bowed as he spoke. Not taking his eyes off of the floor in front of him, he was nonetheless aware of the being in front of him turning his gaze away from the fire he was staring into.
"Severus. Be seated," Lord Voldemort waved a hand at the second chair that was in front of the fire. Severus smoothly stood and took the offered seat, of obviously lesser quality and comfort than the one the Dark Lord was ensconced in. "What is it?"
Taking a steadying breath the potions master spoke, "My Lord, Dumbledore has discovered that Potter has left his relatives' care and cannot find him. He has dispatched multiple members of the Order to find him but so far there has been no sign of the boy."
Voldemort was silent for a moment, gaze caught by the flames flickering in the otherwise dark room. "I see. When were you informed of this?"
"Earlier today. This was the soonest I could get away."
"None have been able to find him?"
"Not to my knowledge my Lord. Dumbledore did say that he had found Potter's aunt but he wasn't there. Nor was she expecting the brat. In fact, from what I gleaned off of him, she was delighted he was gone," Severus kept as close to the truth as he could.
The pale figure was silent again for a period of time, obviously deep in thought. Eventually he spoke, "Keep digging for information Severus. I want to know if Dumbledore or his order find out anything. I will have a few people discreetly searching as well."
"As you will it my Lord," Severus stood, bowed, and exited the room. Speedily moving through the building the Dark Lord has made his lair in, he reached the apparation point and was away from the gloomy place.
Appearing just outside the wards to Hogwarts, he quickly hid away anything that might hint as to his previous location before making his way up to the school. Eventually coming to the gargoyle guarding the door to the headmaster's office he gave the password and was on the staircase. Knocking on the door at the top gained him entrance, upon which he seated himself at the chair in front of the desk.
"How did it go" the headmaster asked.
"Very well," Severus took a sip of the tea he had helped himself to. "He was very interested in the information and said he was going to put a couple people on it. Although I don't see how they're going to have any luck if none of the order have."
"We can only hope that if they do have a breakthrough, we can find out and prevent anything happening to Mr. Potter. Did you say anything about Miss Weasley being missing as well?"
"No. He won't be interested in her unless she can provide some leverage against Potter. And we don't even know if they are together still at this point. Nothing Potter has said has indicated they are as far as I am aware."
Albus sighed, "Indeed he did not mention that they were going to stay together in the communique I received from him. Nor are Molly and Arthur saying anything about what their daughter may have said to them."
"Can we try Legilimency?"
"No. They were trained by an Unspeakable in that art. I have yet to learn who it was though, nor have I ever been able to read them since," Albus shot down that idea.
Severus's lip curled in disdain for his next comment, "What about Black?"
Albus again shot it down, "He is also unreadable and won't discuss anything Harry has said in his letters."
"He has to have been looking for Potter. Lupin too. What if we tail or track them? One of them may just be able to find him and lead us right to him."
"That idea has merit indeed."
A/N: Once again, I've no idea how long it will be before I post again on this. Sorry but that's the way the cookie bakes even if I am attempting to speed up my writing.
