She stood in the entrance of the hideout Axel had mentioned before, a small group of men standing around her, looking at her curiously.
"Guys, this is Yorusora." Axel introduced, gesturing to Yoru as he spoke. She slowly looked up to him, a light blush dusting her cheeks as Axel looked back at her, a soft, kind smile on his face. Slowly, she looked back to the floor worriedly.
"H-hello..." She said quietly.
"Hey there!" A slightly nasally voice said happily, the owner walking up to her and holding out his hand for her to shake. "My name's Demyx, it's nice to meet you!"
Yoru looked up at the man through her eyelashes and nodded slightly.
"You too..." She said, though she refused to shake his hand.
"Demyx, get away from her, you're going to scare her." A colder voice said. Yoru looked up slowly. The man had slate coloured hair that hung down in his face, with deep blue eyes that stood out against his pale skin.
"I apologize. My name is Zexion. Of course this is Demyx, our engineer believe it or not-"
"Hey!" Demyx interjected, though Zexion simply continued speaking as if the blond had said nothing.
"And this is Lexaeus. He doesn't speak much." Zexion said, gesturing to the large, angry looking man, his wavy red hair slicked back. She tensed at the sight of him and moved a bit closer to Axel, making the other red head head laugh.
"There's nothing to be afraid of, Lex won't do anything to harm you." Axel said, Demyx suddenly piping up once more in agreement.
"Yeah! Lexy is great, you don't have to worry about him!" He said happily. She looked around at the group of men once more. She still wasn't sure about any of this. But then again, anything was better than being back there. So at the very least, she figured she could give them a chance...
Avis slowly blinked her eyes open, sighing as she stared up at her ceiling in the dim lighting of her room.
"You're awake early." Masa's familiar voice said from beside her, making the girl look over to him curiously.
"I could say the same about you." She said amusedly, turning onto her side and smiling at her friend.
Masa nodded, a small smile coming to his own face.
"I couldn't sleep."
Avis chuckled and reached over, stroking the brunet's hair, making him blush lightly.
"You're silly Yuki." She said teasingly. Masa stared at her for a moment, his breathing slightly unsteady and his chest tight as he stared at her with slightly widened eyes. Avis blinked, noticing something was off, but the moment she went to say something, Masa suddenly turned over in her bed, his back now facing her as he looked down at her carpeted floor in slight irritation.
"Are you okay Masa?" She asked worriedly, sitting up slightly to try to look at him. Masa nodded slightly in response.
"I'm fine. Just go back to sleep Avis." He responded quietly. This only worried her more, but she knew Masa wouldn't talk to her if he didn't want to, so she slowly laid back down, staring at the back of his head for a moment before closing her eyes, though she didn't go back to sleep. She couldn't, now that she was all worried about Masa.
Masa glanced over his shoulder at her. Even with her eyes closed, he could see the worry on her face. He sighed, turning his attention back to the floor.
"I'm sorry Avis..." He said quietly, Avis peeking out of one of her eyes at him. She couldn't help but smile slightly at his concern for her.
"It's okay." She said, slowly getting up and climbing over Masa. He watched her amusedly until she came to sit on her knees in front of him.
"I know you don't like to talk about your problems. So it's okay. So long as you're okay, that's all that matters." She said happily, her words making Masa blink in surprise before he simply smiled back at her. It was a soft, gentle smile, and Avis couldn't help but giggle before she quickly leant forwards, kissing him on the forehead. The action made Masa blush darkly, and his eyes widened in surprise as he simply sat there. He could hear his heart pounding in his ears as he watched her pull away, smiling widely at him before getting to her feet.
"I'm gonna go shower now." She said happily before turning on her heel and heading off for the bathroom, leaving Masa on her bed to watch her in shock.
"Okay~..." He breathed out quietly as the bathroom door shut, looking around the room in shock as he tried to figure out what had just happened.
All day Avis noticed something was off about Masa. He was quiet, less irritable, and kind of spacing out. This wasn't like him, and it was seriously starting to freak her out. But she couldn't figure out what was wrong. What the hell had happened? It was just a normal day wasn't it? Was he still upset about that morning? Avis didn't even know why he'd been upset this morning, he wouldn't talk to her about it. She sighed as she looked over to her friend, worry clear in her eyes, though he wasn't looking at her. Instead he was looking up at the front of the class room, a pensive expression on his features.
She watched as a pale hand reached up and tapped him on the shoulder, looking back to see Xika with his notebook at the ready.
Masa looked back at him curiously.
"What?" He asked quietly, Xika holding up his notebook to show what he had written to the brunet.
"What's wrong with you now?" It read, making Avis blink in surprise. He was rather bold.
"Nothing. Don't worry about it." He said quietly, turning his attention back to the front of the class room, resting his cheek in his hand. Xika was persistent though, quickly scrawling some more in his notebook and leaning over Masa, holding his notebook in front of his face.
"You're a liar, what's wrong?" He asked once again. Masa growled under his breath, this worrying Avis. He quickly pushed the book out of his face and stood up, Avis quickly shooting up after him to make sure he didn't hurt the smaller, silver haired boy. Xika backed up slightly, though he didn't seem startled or scared, in fact, he was completely composed, which was something that generally only irritated Masa further. He hated it when if he couldn't strike fear in someone, it just made him want to punch them even more.
"I said nothing! Now mind your own fucking business okay?!" He said, quickly grabbing his dufflebag off the chair next to him and heading for the stairs.
"Masa wait!" Avis said, hurrying after the boy, though he ignored her as he continued out of the class room, pushing past Axel as the teacher walked in.
"What the hell?" He asked confusedly.
"Sorry Mr. Flynn! We'll be right back!" Avis promised as she quickly ran past him, only confusing the red head more, though no one in the class really seemed to have an answer for the man as to what the hell had just happened. Even Xika was completely confused.
"Masa!" Avis called out as she ran up to him, the brunet halting in his steps and quickly turning around.
"What?!" He snapped without thinking, startling Avis and making her stop, tensing slightly.
An expression of guilt suddenly crossed his features as he saw the mix of fear and worry on her face, quickly looking away sadly. He didn't mean to scare her, he was just upset, and Avis knew that. So she slowly stepped over to him, placing a hand on his arm and looking at him worriedly.
"Masa, what's wrong with you? I don't understand. Just please talk to me..." Avis said quietly.
"It's nothing really. I just..." Masa sighed as he trailed off.
"What?" Avis prompted, the brunet slowly looking over to her, his eyes shining with an emotion she didn't recognize. What the hell was wrong with him?
"Avis, I..." He started, trailing off again as he looked away. Avis simply watched him, waiting. "I'm sorry, I need to go."
He turned at that point, walking away with his head down. Avis watched on in worry, wondering if she should go after him. In the end, she decided not to, figuring she should give him his space.
Slowly, she trudged back to her classroom, looking rather sad as she opened the door. Everyone looked over to the gloomy girl as the door opened, several students beginning to whisper to each other. Axel and Xika looked especially worried though.
"Hey, is everything alright?" Axel inquired, taking a step towards the girl.
At that moment though, Avis wasn't quite sure what had happened, maybe she'd been spending too much time with her angry best friend, or maybe she'd finally had enough of the bullshit, but regardless of what it may have been to provoke her, something suddenly snapped in Avis. She looked up at the students whispering about her and shot them a glare, the students jumping back slightly and clamping their mouths shut as they looked away from the blonde in fear.
"Everything's fine." She muttered to Axel, turning and walking briskly up the steps. If anything, Axel was only more worried by this behavior, but there wasn't much he could do about it, he was just a teacher.
Avis sighed as she opened the door to her house, running a hand through her hair in frustration. She couldn't believe the day she'd had, but at this point, she just wanted to curl up in her bed and fall asleep at this point. So, she quickly kicked off her shoes and dropped her bag by the front door as she slammed it shut, making sure to lock it before she rushed up the stairs to her bedroom. When she opened her door though, she was greeted with the sight of Masa, curled up on her bed. He was fast asleep and hugging one of her pillows to his chest with half his face hidden by said pillow. Avis' foul mood melted away at the sight. She quietly shut the door, locking it behind her before slowly padding across the floor, stopping as she stood over the boy.
Avis sighed as she looked over the brunet with a small smile. He looked so peaceful when he slept. It was hard for her to believe that when awake he was one of the meanest little fuckers in her school. And yet, he'd always been so sweet to her, there's nothing he wouldn't do for her, and Avis knew that.
"You're an idiot, you know that?" She said quietly with a light giggle, reaching her hand up to brush back his hair. Just as her hand touched him though, Masa's hand shot up and grabbed her wrist, startling the girl. He then quickly pulled her down onto the bed with him, turning towards her and staring at her with deep, brown eyes.
"I do. And I'm sorry about that... Can you forgive me?" He said quietly, smiling softly at the girl. Avis blinked in surprise, shocked for a moment, but a wide smile quickly came to her face.
"Of course I can silly. You're my best friend!" She said happily, Masa chuckling at her words and pulling her into a hug.
"I take it you're feeling better then?" She asked, looking up at her counterpart questioningly. Masa chuckled and nodded slightly in response.
"A bit, yeah. I'm sorry if I upset you. I... I don't know what was wrong with me." He said quietly, looking off to the side.
"You're a liar." Avis said bluntly, startling the brunet. He looked to her confusedly, and she smirked at him knowingly.
"You know what was wrong, you just don't want to tell me. And that's fine, its none of my business anyways. But just know, if you ever want to talk, I'm here." She said happily. Masa stared at her for a moment, then a smile pulled across his face.
"I know. Thanks Avis."
She chuckled and snuggled up to him, relaxing in his arms and closing her eyes.
Later that night, Avis laid awake in her bed, Masa fast asleep beside her. She didn't know why she was awake now, but she was, and she couldn't manage to get back to sleep.
With a sigh, she slowly sat up, looking out the window beside her bed. Everything was still, quiet, nothing out of the ordinary. She let out another side, resting her arm on the window sill and leaning her head against the cool glass, watching the outside boredly. As she continued to watch though, she spotted something, in the dim street lights, scritching around the grass in her yard, looking for something. Though what, Avis didn't know. In fact, Avis didn't even know what it was down in her yard. It suddenly turned and looked up at her window though, glowing yellow eyes piercing through the darkness and startling the girl.
She shot up straight, quickly pulling open her window and leaning out to try and get a better look at the creature, her quick movements startling Masa awake with a low grumble.
"What are you doing?" He asked groggily, though he received no response. The creature didn't stay for long though as it seemingly heard Avis frantically open the window and scurried away. Avis sighed, sitting back in her bed and looking at the window in disappointment.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to wake you." Avis said quietly.
Masa chuckled and shook his head, placing his hand over hers.
"It's fine, I just want to make sure you're okay." He said, smiling at her, regardless of whether or not she could see it.
"Yeah, I'm fine. I just saw something weird..."
"Alright. Then come lay back down."
Avis nodded, then shut the window, looking at it warily for a moment before laying back down with Masa. He seemed to immediately fall back asleep, though Avis stayed up a bit longer, thinking about the creature she'd seen just outside her home. What was it? And why couldn't she shake the feeling that it was there for her...?
She sighed, turning over in her bed and curling up next to Masa, the boy humming in his sleep and moving so his arm was around her. Avis blushed lightly but moved closer, her friend's warmth comforting her and the sound of his soft breaths slowly lulling her to sleep.
Well, it has been quite some time ._. I am so fucking sorry for my super long absence! I... Well, I haven't really been all that busy, but I generally write on my phone, and the thing was a piece of shit, it kept dying super fast, so I wasn't able to write at work anymore. But also, I've been trying super hard to keep up with my boyfriend. So I am super sorry to all my readers for not being here, and I hope you can forgive me T.T I'll try to do better, but I've kind of lost a bit of inspiration for all my stories. But I promise, I will definitely try to finish everything out. I have a lot of stories to continue, and I believe right now, Down the Rabbit Hole has the most chapters, so that will possibly end up my main focus, but when I got on today, I just really wanted to write a chapter of this, so yeah, I hope you enjoy! I'll see you all later, have a great day!
