Chapter 4

Kara stared at the figure on the lake, seeming to stand on top of the water's surface, Kara could barely make out old female features underneath the shadow of the hood,

"Cailleach" Merlin said, shock and distrust in his voice

"Silence young warlock" she glared at him, before turning her cold grey gaze back to the blonde "Kara Zor-El of Krypton you have been brought here to save another, one that is shrouded with darkness and anger"

Kara stayed silent, not entirely sure of what was going on

"Only you can save the one consumed by hate, betrayed by the one's she held closest" the woman hissed

Kara stepped forward, so she was no longer behind Merlin

"How am I supposed to save this person without my powers?" she asked, coming to terms with the fact that in this realm she did not have her Kryptonian powers

"You do not need your alien powers" the woman replied "You need to save her soul, only then can you return home"

"Who is it that I have to save?" Kara asked, not knowing anyone in this world

"Her name is Morgana Pendragon, daughter of Uther Pendragon, half sister to King Arthur of Camelot"

Merlin gasped "No" he said

Kara glanced back at him, he obviously knew who Morgana was and by the look on his elvish features, this situation wasn't good

"It is the only way" countered the woman harshly, once again silencing the young man, she turned back to Kara "If you wish to return to your world, you will have to save Morgana from her own destruction and secure Camelot's future, or watch this world burn until the end of your days"

Then the woman was gone, only a light smoke on the water was the only evidence that she had been standing there, silence fell in the woods, as Kara tried to figure out what was going on, her mind whirling

She turned to face Merlin, who looked even paler than he did before, his eyes staring at the lake where the old woman had disappeared

"You know who this Morgana is don't you" Kara said, breaking the silence

Merlin glanced up at her sadness in his eyes "She was once one of the kindest people I knew, always doing everything in her power to help others"

"What happened?" the blonde asked

Merlin sat on a nearby boulder "Arthur's father the previous king, his name was Uther, he despised magic, believing it to be the cause of his wife's death, he was ruthless, believing everything he did was protecting Camelot, but he made enemies of magic users and executed anyone for using it"

Kara sat beside him, listening to his tale

"Morgana became attached to a young druid boy, she cared for him, keeping him hidden from Uther, but he found out and ordered the boy's death, even though he did nothing" Merlin ran a hand through his hair, reliving the memory "Morgana asked for my help to get the boy out of Camelot and to a group of druids, she distracted Uther, but he found out and in his rage he locked her in the dungeons, he was so angry… that's when Morgana started to change, she became angrier and started plotting against him"

"She played the part of his ward, but I knew something was wrong, she became cold… I thought that maybe I could help her but when she met Morgause another strong druid, she poisoned her mind and talked her into killing the king" he dropped his head in sorrow

Kara didn't know what to say, how was she supposed to save this Morgana if she was already so far gone, was it possible? Kara had no idea how to even start

"What happened to her?" the blonde asked "Where is she now?"

Merlin looked up at her "She hasn't been seen since Uther's death, but Gaius and I believe that she is plotting to try and take over Camelot with the warlord Helios"

Kara nodded

Merlin rubbed his face and stood, we should get back, I have to set dinner for Arthur and I'm sure Gaius will prepare some food for you

They began their walk back to Camelot, Kara had decided to leave her suit under the rock by the lake, she wouldn't be needing it anytime soon by the sound of it

"Cailleach said that you were an alien… what is that?" Merlin asked

Kara raised her eyebrows, then a thought struck her, of course he wouldn't know what an alien was, this was not her world

"Erm, well…" she thought of how to explain this, did he even know that there were other planets "I'm not from this world, I come from the stars, if that makes sense"

Merlin seemed to think it over for a long moment "Okay" was all he said "What's your world like?"

"Well I have two different worlds that I call home…where I was born, that world got destroyed, me and my cousin were the only two to survive, our parents sent us away to another world" she fell silent for a moment feeling the loss of Krypton, she shook the memory off "My new home it's… different from here, there are more buildings, a lot larger than the ones you have here, although there are a lot less forests and open spaces"

Merlin looked amazed "You have castles larger than Camelot, it's one of the biggest kingdoms in Albion"

Kara smiled at him "Yes much larger but we call them skyscrapers, because they almost touch the sky"

The smile on Merlin's face grew as he tried to imagine what that might look like

They spoke more as they made their way back, the sun beginning to, Merlin had asked about the 'powers' she and the woman had spoken of, Kara had explained that she was a sort of hero in her world and that she had these special abilities that helped her to do so,

Merlin had stopped her after she spoke of flying, it looked like he was trying to supress a smile

"What?" Kara asked

"Can you keep a secret?" he asked, glancing around them

"Of course" she replied

Merlin raised his palm to the ground and after a moment a small whirlwind formed, sweeping up all the fallen leaves

Kara's jaw dropped, the whirlwind died down and Merlin looked up at her with anticipation

"You have magic" she asked

He beamed at her, then it vanished "Kara you cannot tell anyone, not about you or your powers and not mine, magic is still not accepted here"

"Nobody knows?" she asked "Why do you still hide your amazing abilities ?"

Merlin exhaled "Arthur blames magic for Uther's death, he does not condemn people like his father did but he does not accept it in Camelot"

Merlin looked up to the sky "It's getting late, I have to get to Arthur, c'mon I will take you back to Gaius, you can tell him, he knows about me since the beginning, he can help you and tell you more"
