Summer 2004 - STAR Labs Underground

"Mr. Parker! We've finished your web jumpstarters!" Peter heard the voice of Harrison Wells coming from the hallway. "Try them on!" Wells handed Peter a pair of black bracelets. Peter could sense that there was something that was going to pierce his skin.

"Umm. Dr. Wells? There are pins here, are you sure I should be wearing these?"

"Don't worry about them. They only go half a millimeter into your skin. It's required to activate the webs. You won't feel them at all." Peter put them on, and felt a slight tingling sensation where the pins were. It quickly went away. "Try shooting some webs at the target." Peter was amazed at how well the jumpstarters worked. The moment he closed his middle and ring fingers, they fired. "We tested the strength of your webs when you avoided Ms. Danvers' heat vision. They're stronger than elevator cables."

"What exactly does that mean to me? I know it's cool and all, but why is that important."

"Because," Cisco said as he entered the room. "They're strong enough to allow you to swing around the city. By shooting your webs at buildings and slingshotting yourself up, you can immediately get a good vantage point. Then, all you need to do is to attach the webs to buildings ahead of you, and swing on them as though they're ropes. That'll be awesome to see" Wells looked at him "Of course, only do that after you've had extensive training."

"Now that's cool." Peter said. He kept on using his webs.

About an hour later, Peter was trying out his strength and agility on the salmon ladder when there was an alert.

"Supergirl, there's reports of a bomb underneath a building on Third Lane that's gonna explode!" Cisco said. Peter immediately wanted to help. Then he remembered the huge stink he made about not wanting to be a hero earlier, and decided against it.

"My cousin will come." A few minutes passed and nobody came.

"Ms. Danvers, it looks like you'll have to do this yourself" Dr Wells said.

Kara's voice came through the comms. "I'm here. What do I do?"

"X-Ray the building and freeze the bomb!" said Dr Wells. "You should know what to do in a situation like this by now!"

Kara found the bomb and went towards it, but she noticed that the closer she got to it, the weaker she felt. Eventually, she realized what was happening. The bomber put kryptonite around the bomb, probably to stop Superman from freezing it.

"There's kryptonite here! I can't do this! There's an hour left before it goes off!" Kara yelled through the comms. "I'm getting out of the bomb room!" Kara left the building, but stayed by it, just in case.

"I'm sorry, what's kryptonite?" Peter asked.

"The one substance that weakens Kara. She's powerless right now." said Wells.

"So everyone in there is gonna die?"

"Peter-"

"Cisco! Give me the suit!"

Cisco was about to press a button on the console before Wells said "Peter! You are not ready for this yet!"

"I thought you said that 'with great power comes great responsibility' a month ago!' Didn't you want me to become a hero!"

"Didn't you say that being a hero was the one thing you didn't want to do! As much as I want Central City to have another hero, I do caution some restraint!"

"Doctor, I doubt restraint made you the man you are today."

"Yes, a man whose wife is dead and has limited leg movement due to a car crash!"

"I- alright, I'll admit that was a good point. But in the end, it's up to me! And I say that I want to help out there!" That was it for Wells. He got up and left the room. "Cisco."

"But Dr. Wells said-"

"Cisco, NOW! People are going to die out there. If you don't let me do this, it's not my fault I didn't save them. It'll be your fault for holding me back. And you'll have to live with that. Now, GIVE ME THE SUIT!"

"OKAY, okay!." Cisco went and got the suit. "the web jumpstarters will work through the suit, don't worry." Peter put the suit on, except for the mask.

"We need to call these things something other than 'web jumpstarters.' How about 'web shooters?" Cisco gave Peter a hug.

"You are an actual genius." Cisco said, and they both laughed.

Peter put on the mask, attached his com, and left.

"Cisco, how do I swing?"

"First, you gotta slingshot yourself into the air. Then, you just need to aim your webs at the building walls, and swing on them as though they were ropes. You have super-strength, it shouldn't be a problem." Peter did what Cisco told him, and he felt amazing. Swinging was so fun, relaxing, and exciting at the same time. "You're at the building, find Kara!"

Peter ran up the building to the top and found Kara. Knowing she had super-hearing, he just said "Kara, up here," and she came up.

"Nice suit," she said.

"I'm gonna get all the kryptonite out of there. You need to do your thing and get rid of the bomb!" Kara quickly told him how to get to the bomb, and he ran there. Once he had taken all the kryptonite out, Kara got rid of the bomb, and they both went back to STAR labs underground, where they found a very angry Dr. Wells.

"Peter Benjamin Parker what were you thinking! You did not have the training for this! You could have died!" Wells shouted.

"But I didn't, did I? Plus, I saved a huge amount of lives today."

"I see my suit held up pretty well" Cisco said. Everyone stared at him. "I'm just gonna go home now." Cisco left the room, and Wells followed him out.

"I'm actually feeling really hungry right now." Peter said

"With your powers, you'll probably need to eat more. I need to eat about 8000 calories a day." Kara replied.

"Wow. Why don't we meet up with Barry and Alex and get some pizza?"

"Good idea."

Peter went off to get the pizza, while Kara brought everyone together. They all went to the Danvers place.

Peter, who realized that he had wasted 20 minutes thinking about what he had done in the day decided to swing back home, so he wouldn't be late. He arrived at the Danvers on time.

"Pizza time," he said. He didn't notice, but there were webs stuck to the top of the pizza boxes.

"Peter, why are there webs stuck to these boxes?" Barry asked. Then he saw the news. The headline read 'Spider-Man Found Carrying Pizzas After Saving Building "Oh. OH no. Please don't tell me you-"

"I am the spider hero." Peter said. Kara kicked him lightly.

"What the hell were you thinking!"

"Look, Supergirl was in danger and-"

"I don't want to hear it-"

"And I just thought about what Ben would have wanted-"

"And now I gotta hear it."

"Barry, you're not my dad! You're the same age as me!"

"And yet you don't see me risking my life just to play hero!"

"Well, you don't have powers, do you!? If you did, you'd understand!"

"How would you know that Supergirl was in danger anyway? You don't know her!"

"ENOUGH!" Kara shouted. "Barry, I didn't want to tell you, but seen as Peter's already screwed up… I am Supergirl." Barry was about to say something, but he decided to just grab some pizza and go home.

Barry felt sad, angry, betrayed. Why would Kara keep a secret that big from him? She was his best friend. Didn't she trust him? Then he felt a wave of guilt hit him. What If he had just allowed his emotions to destroy his relationship with his best friend and his brother?

After Kara finished up her pizzas, she went looking for Barry, and found him walking home.

"Kara, what are you doing here?"

"Look, I know you're angry about me not telling you my secret, and you have every right to be, but can you please hear me out at least?"

"Fine."

"I was doing it to protect you. Barry, if you had learned my identity, that would immediately put you in danger. Not just because of my cousin's enemies knowing how close we are, but what If you start doing more risky things, and expecting me to come save you? I can't be there for you all the time!"

"I- I get why you might not have wanted to tell me. I just stormed out of there because of something else that happened today."

"What?"

"My dad's prison sentence just- it got extended from 30 years to his whole life, without parole." Barry said as he started to cry. Kara hugged him.

Kara asked "W- Why would they do that?"

"Detective Joe West found evidence that he killed someone else. So, before even looking into that case, they extended my dad's sentence. I'm never going to be able to properly see him again." Kara and Barry hugged each other for a long time. When it got awkward, Kara let go. Then Barry fell to the ground, unconscious. Kara saw a man in yellow with a masked, blurred face pick up Barry, and looked at her.

"Catch me if you can." He said, and then ran.

A/N Reverse-Flash is here, and he has Barry! I know this chapter had a lot of action, but I think it's really cool when Spider-Man and Supergirl team up. Next chapter, a few new characters will be introduced into the story.
