"Harry!?"
At the sound of his name Harry halted his next attack and for the first time he noticed just who it was who'd entered the room. Four very familiar adults were staring at him in absolute shock. In any other situation this would have been rather humorous, he'd never seen the headmaster's eyes that wide before.
"Sirius! Remus! Professors!" Harry was actually extremely grateful he was covered in dark fur at that moment, as he quickly sat back between his heels, snapped his knees together and pulled a pillow into his lap. Being furry and mostly alone, he'd seen no reason to put clothes on. So now his father figures and his teachers had seen his… He was sure that his whole body was tomato red under the fur right now.
Likely do to his many years of experience dealing with the strangeness of a school of magical teenagers, Dumbledore was the first one to regain his composure. "Well my boy this isn't exactly how we expected to find you! And might I ask how you managed to gain such a glorious pelt?"
The extremely embarrassed teenager blinked at the old man in shock. Glorious pelt? Seriously?
Before he could even begin to form an answer to that, cries sounded from behind him. The twins were startled at first but know that the commotion had died down they were scared and wanted their mama to comfort them. Harry quickly turned, at ease with turning his back now that he knew it was just family, and scooped his babies up against him. Softly he hushed them, rubbing his soft cheeks over their little heads. The familiar warmth and the soothing sound of his voice calmed them quickly. Soon they were only hiccupping gently, little hands clenched tight in his fur.
So when the twins quieted down, Harry quickly became re-aware of the fact that there were other people in the room. If he missed the feeling of the return of the stunned stares, he couldn't really miss the sounds his godfather was making.
"W-wh-what! Hell! Those-!" Sirius stuttered, wand arm flapping, sending sparks skittering everywhere.
Harry took a deep breath, transfigured the pillow in his lap into a pair of shorts, and turned to face them. Ears pinned back, he peered at his audience up through his fringe. (Which was, by the way, one of the few things to go unchanged by the transformation. His hair was just as wild as ever.)
"Even more surprising …" Dumbledore mumbled staring at the newborns, one fair haired the other having Harry's midnight locks, clutched in his honorary grandsons arms.
"Where the hell did those come from!?" Sirius finial burst out, wand flapping all the harder now, "And when the hell did you get a TAIL!?"
"Actually it looks like he's got three of them," Remus murmured, hand reaching out to grab Sirius' failing wrist, "And horns too."
"Mr. Pottter! Explain yourself!" McGonagall spoke for the first time, eyes wide.
"Well it's perfectly obvious isn't it?" All eyes snapped to the headmaster at these words. Even little Finn turned to peer bright green eyes at the man. His brother's matching set, however, were still tightly closed and pressed with the rest of his face into his mama's neck.
"What about this situation is OBVIOUS!?" Sirius asked loudly, earning a glare from his godson as Finn startled back into his neck.
"Mind your voice Sirius." Dumbledore chided lightly. "And really, Harry is sitting there, looking like nothing I've ever seen before, and clutching newborns after having performed several impressive acts of wandless magic. It makes it quite obvious that over the summer, he came into his inheritance as a Genetrix, then came to Hogwarts, found his mate, and a few days ago came in here to give birth in privacy."
Grey-blue, amber and brown eyes snapped from the smiling old man to the shy youth and back again.
"A Genetrix," Moony breathed, "Harry is this true?"
"Seems to be," Harry muttered, staring resolutely at the tops of his sons' heads, "Took me by surprise, but it fits."
"Took you by surprise?" McGonagall shook her head, "I understand the initial transformation being a surprise, but the rest of it? And why in the world didn't you tell anyone?"
"I would assume that the glamour our young Harry has been wearing for the past several years has managed to conceal his transformation and following pregnancy even from himself." Twinkling blue eyes, gazed at the shocked expression on Harry's face, delighted by the way the white tufts bounced as his ears snapped up. "The contractions must have been quite the shock."
Harry nodded, (tufts bobbing away, how marvelous) "I thought they were just muscle cramps at first, so I got up to walk them off. When I got in here though, my… water broke. (his ears pinned back now, probably embarrassed, poor thing) After that I just went into this… trance I suppose, and before I knew it they were born."
"You didn't even know you were pregnant?" The Head of Gryffindor asked, baffled at such a thing.
"Well 'course not. I mean I didn't even know I could be… And there was no reason to think- I mean most of the time you'd have to-." Albus noted with some fascination that the boys two longer tails where twisting together much like how someone would wring their hands.
"….Have to what?"
Harry squirmed a little, "Well you know have… umm… h-have s-s-s-s…."
Realizing what the poor boy was trying to say, Dumbledore took pity on him, "Have sexual intercourse?"
Harry was fairly sure his fur was about to catch fire. "Y-yeah that… and since I, you know, haven't… I didn't even consider the possibility… I mean I knew something was up but I just thought it was the flu or something not… I had no reason think I was pregnant of all things!"
"In that case, considering that a genetrix pregnancy is shorter and easier than a human's, I guess it makes sense! I certainly wouldn't have noticed, if it had happened to me!" The headmaster beamed. "Though I suppose we should take this to the hospital wing, Hogwarts' newest family needs a check up! And I believe that Poppy might be help determine these little ones' father."
Harry blinked, "She can do that?"
Remus took it upon himself to answer this time, "There are enchantments on a Medi-witch's wand that record the magical signature of everyone they've treated. It's so they can access a patient's medical history or identify them through transfiguration or curses. It can be used to determine paternity as well."
Dumbledore nodded, "If your mate is in fact a student here, then Poppy should be able to tell us who he is. Well they could be a she but that's truly rare."
Harry paused in the process of making his way off the bed, then shook his head violently as if dispelling a thought.
"WAIT!" Everyone startled at the sudden outburst. Harry stumbled, the babies whimpered, and everyone else turned to stare at the perpetrator. Who was, of course, Sirius.
"Just wait a second." The canine animagus muttered, rubbing the bridge of his nose. "Are you telling me that not only has my godson managed to transform into the rarest magical creature in the world, and have twins without even knowing, he doesn't even know who their father is!?"
Grey-blue eyes stared in absolute incredulity at his godson. "What the fuck!?"
"SIRIUS, LANGUAGE!" The shout was echoed by most of the teachers in the room and one very upset young mother who had brought his white tails up to cover his sons' delicate ears.
"Whatever!" The canine animagus yelled throwing his arms in the air, "This is insane! How're you so calm?"
The question was technically for everyone in the room but he was staring at Harry when he said it. The teen didn't quite know how to answer that, so he stayed silent and shifted restlessly from paw to paw.
"Well I believe Harry has had some time to get used to the idea, Remus and Minerva are a little shell shocked and I," Dumbledore smiled, "am really quite used to all sorts of things happening at this school. Why once a few years ago we discovered that there was nesting family of veelas in the owlery, they were on their third clutch before anyone noticed! But enough of that now, let's get everyone to hospital wing shall we?"
Turns out that being the headmaster of a magical school has its benefits. The walk to the hospital wing was made in record time and without running into another soul, living or otherwise. It was actually rather odd, as they managed to get from the seventh floor to the ground level without going down a single flight of stairs. Harry determined to ask the professor about it later.
When the group arrived it was too the sight of Madame Pompfrey bustling about "Harry's" bed muttering to herself. Harry caught the words "Potter" and "injury prone" as well a few potion names.
"Poppy," Dumbledore called, eyes twinkling again, "We've located Mr. Potter."
"Well about time!" She said without looking up from her vials. "Should have known something was going to happen, a whole term without Potter in hospital? Bad omen, that. So what's he done this time…."
When the Headmaster had made his announcement, the Medi-witch had been relieved. There wasn't the running and shouting of something potentially fatal, nor the grief of being too late. No, the old man sounded amused and that usually meant a transformation of some kind; transfigured by a classmate, animagus transformation gone wrong or something of the like. So she took a few extra moments to make sure she was prepared before she looked up.
What she saw, she was not prepared for.
"Oh my goodness!" Pompfrey gasped, eyes locked on the infants in the teenagers arms. "Mr. Potter explain yourself!"
"He's a Genetrix Poppy." Remus said as the matron began rapidly firing off spells at said Genetrix and his children.
"Yes, I can see that. Thank you Mr. Lupin." The healer glared slightly at her old student even as she made the last spell sparkle in a pretty way to soothe the little ones. "What I meant was why you didn't come to me the moment you went into labor! Or, barring that, as soon as you gave birth!"
Harry's ears titled down in a guilty way. "I'm sorry, but I couldn't…."
He struggled for a moment to find the words that would explain the need he had felt to keep his babies safe and hidden. He knew they were healthy and the idea leaving the safety of the Room hadn't even crossed his mind.
Some of the struggle must have shown on his face because Madame Pompfrey's stern look softened. "Well they are perfectly healthy, you've taken good care of them." She gave him a fond pat between the ears.
"Poppy," she turned to her employer, "There is a question as to the father of the little ones, so if you wouldn't mind."
"Oh, of course. If you would set them down for a moment, there on the bed, close proximity to another magical signature disrupts the spell."
Harry eased his sons down onto the bed, cooing gently to ease Finn's fussing, and absently conjured a few pillows to tuck around them so they would feel secure. Stepping back a few paces, he flicked his longest tails in the air, catching his sons' attention. Harry had rarely set them down since they'd been born, so he wanted to make sure they could see him.
Madame Pompfrey smiled at the little faces, intent as they were on their mothers show. Harry would do a good job with them she was sure of it. She cast the spell, and watched as the results were formed on a floating piece of parchment. "Let's see here, mother Harry James Potter, father…. Oh my."
"Who is it Poppy?"
The matron looked at her audience with disbelief coloring her features, "Draco Malfoy."
Tada! I know took me long enough. So an Extra Special THANK YOU to all the people following this sad little neglected story. Draco finally comes in the next chapter for all those still sticking around by then!
