Chapter 4 –
When I woke up I was laid on a huge king sized bed, someone had laid the duvet over me I already had an idea who it was. I opened my eyes and scanned the room until my eyes landed on a vampire standing in the corner, he was not one I recognised!
"who are you" I questioned but he just stood there almost acting as though I didn't exist, or I wasn't there. Shortly after, he walked out and left me all alone. I was sat there for a few minutes before getting bored. I decided to explore the room. It was so big it would probably take me all day. I started in the bathroom. It was the size of Manhattan! The bathtub was pure white, and the shower polished to perfection. It looked like a display rather than an actual used bathroom. I took this moment to have a human minute, jumped in the shower and quickly washed my hair and body.
When I returned, I found my old clothes had been replaced with some new clothes. There was a little black dress, a white blazer and either a choice of flats or some small heels. I chose the heels and then walked out of the room only to find the vampire who knocked me out sitting in the chair reading. He looked up as soon as I came in.
"you look lovely Camille, good choice, come and sit" and he beckoned towards the chair on the opposite. Reluctantly I went and sat sensing that I didn't really have much of an option.
"are you going to tell me what's going on, why can't I go home, I don't want to be here, I want to be back in my old flat, back in my old life" I told him
"it's best you forget about that now Camille, you belong here and you will not be leaving any time soon so you best get comfortable" he told me
"you can't do this" I felt the anger building up in my voice "this is kidnap, people are going to notice I'm gone" I took a breath "listen if it's money you want I can get it for you I won't even tell anyone about what happened just let me go" I began to feel the tears welling up in my eyes but I refused to let them fall, I wouldn't show him any signs of weakness.
"I don't want your money" he smirked "I have all the money I could want and all the possessions I could ever need. I will tell you why you have to remain here, but I must warn you once you know something it cannot be unknown" I nodded and he began "right have you ever heard of a soul mate"
"yes" I nodded "it's like when two people are fated to be together forever"
"that is correct, well in the vampire world we have something known as mates, they are like our other half, it is quite hard for a vampire to find their true mates and most settle for just a strong bond but when a true mate is found it overwrites any previous relationships"
"why is any of this relevant" I questioned him
"patience my dear, when a true mate is found they become the centre of each other's lives no one can interfere, the penalty for trying to separate a mated coupe is death. Anyway, it relates because you Camille are my mate, my other half" he paused for a second waiting for me to respond but when I didn't he then continued "I found out about you a few years ago when you were only a child yourself. I didn't want to take you from your family and everything you knew so I just made sure you would be safe a checked up on you every few weeks. I tried the best I could to keep you concealed to the entire vampire world if they knew about you there would constantly be a target on your back for our enemies and believe me Camille, we have a lot of them. I managed to do this successfully for a few years but then Aro became suspicious of where I kept disappearing off to and he discovered my secret, you! Needless to say soon after the vampire world knew about you and I had to bring you in, it was no longer safe. I sent Felix and Demetri out to get you with clear, strict instructions not to harm you in any way but unfortunately, they were too late. By the time they got there the Romanians had already taken you so there was a fight and they managed to get you back."
That was a lot of information to process. We sat in silence for a few minutes and I kept going over it in my head.
"I know that it's a lot to take in, I'll leave you to process that for a few minutes when your ready to talk just give me a shout and I'll be there" and then he left
I sat there for what felt like hours thinking. What was I going to say to him? He was a vampire king and I was just another human how could I be mated to someone like him, he was the definition of perfection and I was well . . . me! I had to get out of here, I couldn't stay in this castle any longer. I stood up and opened the door a crack, peeped out to see if anyone was there and no one was so I set off in search of an exit. I was walking for a while when I came across a window. It was open just enough for me to squeeze out, with a look down I saw we was only on the second floor, so it wasn't that far down, it beats staying here and being found wondering the halls. I climbed out of the window lowering myself, so I was hanging by my arms and then let go. I was falling for about a second before I hit the floor, my ankle buckled underneath me, I'm sure it was broken or at the very least sprained, but apart from that I was fine. I had to carry on, I ran as fast as I could with my ankle away from the castle, every step I was taking I felt a pull in my chest, but I had to ignore it, I might have just made my escape. I didn't look back until I reached a road. I hailed a taxi, which was surprisingly a lot easier than in New York, and hopped in.
"Volterra airport please" and he nodded speeding off.
When we arrived, I ran inside, the pain in my ankle significantly worsening, I looked on the flights board, I couldn't go home that is the first place they'd look for me, so I decided on London. It was far away, and the flight was taking off in 20 minutes. I quickly went over to the ticket office and ordered my flight, used my funds from college and half an hour later we were in the air. I couldn't help but feel a little disappointed but quickly dismissed that feeling and relaxed putting my mind at ease for the 3-hour flight.
Whilst we were in the air, I took the time to look at my ankle, it was badly bruised but hopefully it would heal on it's own, the more populated places I go the more likely they are to find me so I had to stay moving.
When we landed, I got off the plane and went in search of a cheap hotel for the night. After a few hours wondering the city I found a cheap motel type place on the outskirts of the city and checked in for the night. The room was nice enough and I quickly threw my stuff down and drifted into a dreamless sleep.
When I woke up, I knew I instantly that had slept for too long. I had barely left Italy 24 hours ago and I was already making mistakes. I grabbed my stuff and checked out praying they hadn't found me yet. My fears were confirmed because as soon as I stepped out into the lobby of the hotel, I saw one of them, they were in the shade as they didn't want to draw attention to themselves, but I knew they had seen me. I put my hood up and hobbled quickly away hoping I would be able to get away before they found a way to capture me, I might need to get my ankle looked at. I had been walking for about a minute and even managed to convince myself I had gotten away before I felt a hand fall onto my shoulder and my heart dropped.
"I suggest you come with me willingly or I will have to force you and believe me that won't be good for anyone around" an unknown voice whispered in my ear. I let out a breath I didn't even know I had been holding but I knew I had to go back. I didn't have a choice! I turned around to face this mysterious vampire.
"okay, I'll go with you" I told him, and he took me back to my hotel room. I sat on the bed as he made a call and before I knew it, I was on the private jet headed back to the castle.
"what's going to happen to me" I questioned a few hours into our flight trying to keep a calm exterior but instead my mind was screaming and going over every possible bad situation that could happen.
"let's just say the masters aren't to happy about your little runaway act" he sneered
As much as I didn't want to be in Volterra there was one person I had slightly missed, "is Caius angry at me" I whispered closing my eyes half not wanting to hear the answer
"guess you'll find out soon, were about to land" he told me. I sat back in my seat and went through every possible scenario that could play out. This was going to be an interesting next few hours.
