Hey guys. So it's been YEARS! Years. I don't know if anyone is still reading... but I feel bad leaving these stories here just sitting unfinished. So here is a chapter. Review if you want, but I certainly do not blame you if you don't! I hope you enjoy!
Chapter 4
Bella's POV
The following morning, my phone rang. I was sitting by the pond outside. In the mornings, I loved to sit out there. It was so peaceful. The wind blew lightly, and my hair swirled around my face. It smelled like flowers.
I looked at my phone, and it was Charlie. He called every month or so, just to make sure that I was doing alright. I hadn't seen him in over a year. After I was changed, I went back to Forks to visit him once, a few months after the wedding. He knew something was different, but he just couldn't put his finger on it. Charlie wasn't the only one I ran into that visit…
I snapped out of my flashback and answered the phone. "Hi, dad!"
"Hiya, Bells. Listen, I need to ask you something. It's not a good something. Are you sitting down?"
My heart sunk. Did something happen to him? Or mom? Or even Phil? "What is it?"
He sighed. "It's Jake, Bella. Nobody's seen him in a few weeks. His dad didn't even tell me about it until a few days ago. Has he… has he contacted you at all?"
I frowned. I hadn't talked to Jake in over a year. Not since I had been to Forks. The terms we parted on were not good. "No, I haven't heard anything from him. Is he… do you know if he is okay?"
"He left a note, but that's it. Said he had something he had to do. He hasn't been answering his phone. I just thought maybe he would have told you something. You guys were such good friends." Charlie still had a hard time accepting that Jake and I didn't speak anymore.
"I know dad. If I hear anything about him, I'll call you."
Our conversation wrapped up pretty quickly after that. After I hung up, I slid the phone in my pocket and closed my eyes. I hated thinking about my last visit to Forks. I lost my best friend there.
"Bella!" Jake exclaimed as he got out of his car. I was waiting for him at my house. It was the first time I had seen him since the wedding, and I was so excited. I had missed him! He didn't even make it to the porch before he stopped. He looked at me, standing in the doorway.
He knew.
"Jacob," I started.
Jake shook his head. "No. How could you," he spat.
I approached him slowly. He was shaking. "Jake, it's okay. I promise you, everything is alright.
"Alright? ALRIGHT?! There is nothing okay about this, Bella."
The door opened, and Charlie poked his head out. "Is everything okay out here?"
"It's fine, dad! We're okay! Go inside!" I yelled without turning around.
"Jacob Black, if you think you can come here and yell at my daughter, than you have another thing coming."
Jacob put his head in his hands, and I could have sworn I heard him growl.
"Dad, inside, please!" I exclaimed. If there was something Charlie never needed to see, it was Jacob exploding into a wolf.
He sighed and I heard the door slam behind me.
I was close enough to touch him. "Jake," I whispered.
"No! No, Bella! No, you aren't even Bella! You are a monster!" he shouted. He took a deep breath and started running into the woods behind my house. I wasn't going to let him go that easily. I was the same Bella! I was still me! I just happened to be a little bit more durable, that was all.
He was barely in the woods before he changed. It always looked so painful to me, and this was no different. He was running like mad. His growls were so loud, I was sure that Charlie could hear.
"Jake, stop! Please!" I shouted.
He turned to face me, snarling. He pounced.
I was pulled out of my flashback by the sound of footsteps.
"Bella?" It was Jasper. "I… I felt something out here."
"I'm okay!" I lied.
He sat beside me. He looked pointedly at my arms, which were wrapped tightly around my stomach.
"He didn't mean to do it, you know." Jasper pulled me into him, and rested his arm around my shoulders.
The scars on my stomach did not fade over time. You could always see those scratches, where my best friend tried to rip me open.
"I know," I sighed, resting my head on his shoulder. We sat like that for a long time. We listened to the birds sing. Jasper was the one who found me in the forest. When he brought my home to Laurent, he was the one who convinced him not to kill Jacob. He knew what I was feeling, and he made sure nobody did anything to make it worse.
"He's missing now, you know. Left a note and said that he was leaving town. That's not really like him."
"Wait a minute." Jasper pulled away from me. "He left?"
I nodded.
"I need to talk to Alice. I'll see you later, Bella."
I shrugged, and a few minutes later followed him into the house. I could hear everyone talking and laughing. Carlisle and Eleazar were playing chess. Laurent and Emmett were cheering them on. I smiled.
Before I opened the front door, my phone rang again. I didn't recognize the number.
"Hello?"
"Bella, it's me." Jacob. It was Jacob.
"Jake, where are you? Charlie just called me! They're worried!"
"I know. I can't talk about them. I need to see you. When can you meet?"
"What? You're in France?"
He sighed. "I will text you where to meet me. Do not bring anyone." He hung up.
I paused. I wanted to tell everyone inside what happened. My morning had ended up being much more interesting than usual. When my phone buzzed with Jacob's text, I made the decision. I turned from the front door and hopped in the car. It would be a few minutes before anyone noticed I was gone. I just hoped that was enough time.
It has been years since I have written any fanfiction, so hopefully this is good enough! I hope you guys like it. Hopefully I'll be able to update soon. Review if you want!
