… Excuse me but do you see me filthy rich and owning a private island? No? Then no I do own Harry Potter…
Damn it…
FYI When I type with just Jean and Mark or even Hermione in the fic I'll refer H.G as Harrison that's just how it'll be they are his family they can call him Harrison because that's his name even if he prefers to be called H.G by almost everyone, only teachers and his family can call him Harrison though. So I'll only write H.G as Harrison when his family is alone without him around, when he does show up in the story only then will he be H.G.
It's a little confusing but let me explain.
Friends and people H.G likes call him H.G out of friendship. Also whenever H.G is alone, with friends or with his sister I'll be calling him H.G.
Family and some teachers call him Harrison out of love or respect. Meaning whenever he's with teachers or his parents they'll be calling him Harrison.
People he doesn't like can only call him Mr. Granger. This will be a rarity for me to write so…
Chapter 4: Murphy's Law My Dear Brother
Jean had left the living room right after the Headmaster of Hogwarts had told her and her family that Sirius and Remus would be staying with them and as she was heading up she heard Albus speak to the Potters that they were to leave with him now that everything was settled.
Jean to say the least was happy the Potters were leaving her home, she did not like them at all; she hated them as much as her son and daughter did if not more. They had hurt a wonderful, smart, beautiful, and caring child by leaving him in an orphanage as if he was a used napkin only to show up years later and act like they care about him; it infuriated her to no end.
Jean scowled to herself as she thought more about it, Mrs. Potter was lucky to have two children and by the looks of it could more or likely did have more, she on the other hand could no longer have children.
After Jean had Hermione which had been very stressful and bad pregnancy, she had learned from her doctor a few days later that the strain of another child on her would either kill her or her unborn child if she were to get pregnant again. Jean not wanting to risk either killing her own baby or losing her life and leaving her daughter and husband at such a young age decided to get her 'tubes tied' so to speak thus the reason why she could no longer have children…
But that didn't stop her from dreaming of giving Hermione a little sibling and giving her husband a son to care for, so when she and her husband after six years of deciding, being approved for adoption, and visiting orphanages went to gain a son, they went to the nearest orphanage and asked if they could see the children.
Hermione had been with them for the trip, she had been about seven years old almost about to turn eight, and she was the most excited to gain a brother mainly to have someone her age around since she didn't have any friends at school due to her 'know-it-all' phase as a child.
Jean had always loved the fact her daughter was so smart but she was a bit grateful Hermione learned modesty and to allow others to have a chance to answer thanks to H.G's teachings, in a way both of her children taught each other something important.
When her daughter had walked off in the orphanage on her own and after panicking when both Jean and Mark could not find her, Hermione had been found under the staircase of the orphanage with a young seven year old Harry James Potter, thus sealing her and her family's fate when Hermione decided to have him as her little brother.
At first both Jean and Mark did not know if they wanted a seven year old, they were hoping to get a child a bit younger but after just spending a few hours with the emerald eyed boy they grew to love him as their own. How he spoke was adorable, how his eyes sparkled with happiness when he talked to Hermione, how he seemed so shy around new people but brave enough to speak his mind when he could, and how he was so kind to them just made the Grangers fall for him.
It broke Jean's heart when years later they would discover the truth about H.G's true parents and who the Potters were. It broke her heart even more when her son cried in Hermione's arms when they discovered more about the Potters, and to see her son in tears while the hopeful dreams he created shatter into pieces was very horrible to witness.
Since that day she promised herself the Potters would no longer hurt her son, she would protect her son from them and everything else, the son she raised and cared for as if she had given birth to him.
And it was a promise she was going to keep.
Jean knocked on H.G's door, the loud music still blaring in his anger, from… Everything basically.
From finding out his boyfriend of two years was cheating on him, to his biological parents returning to him as if they truly missed him, even Jean would had been blasting music in a way to drown her anger and sorrow.
The music still blared and she knocked again this time louder so her son would hear it better, when he didn't answer she knew it was time just to enter the room with or without permission.
Jean opened H.G's door and calmly walked inside, she quickly looked around the room that belonged to her son. To others it was just a normal teenage boy's room, posters, pictures, a desk, a laptop, a small bookshelf for his books, a stereo for his music which was currently blasting the loud music from his iPod, the only thing that was missing was her son.
Jean didn't worry though she knew instantly where he was when she noticed the window wide open. She 'tch'ed quietly and went to turn the volume down on the stereo, once she did she made her way to the bed that was in front of the window. Jean climbed onto the bed using her knees to get close to the window and stuck her head out of it before she turned her head right.
Laying down on one of the rooftops of their house was her son, his hands behind his head as he stared up to the light blue sky while his face seemed to be in a frown that was both angry and sad, it seemed her son was so caught up in his own thoughts that he never noticed his music being turned down at all.
"Harrison, what did I say about being on the roof?" Jean scowled her son lightly, it was normal for the Granger family to find the youngest on the rooftop whenever he needed to clear his head so it wasn't anything huge for them to worry about though it did cause major panic in the family when it first happened, Hermione was one who found him later on the roof.
H.G, who was so caught up in his own thoughts, jumped a bit when he heard his mother's voice scowl him. He quickly turned and stared at his mother whose expression was between amused and annoyance that she found him on the roof again.
He gave her a small smile before he answered her question "Not to when we have guests at the house, they might freak out like Mrs. Rivers did when I was nine…"
Jean smirked softly as she asked "And what are you doing right now?"
H.G tried to hold back a small smile but answered his mother "I'm on the roof…"
"Come inside dear." Jean said sternly but kindly as she moved away from the window and off the bed to allow her son to come back inside which he did a few seconds later. He landed with a soft thump on his bed when he came in and looked straight at his mother who was now standing in front of him, though he had been happy for a few seconds when he had been on the roof the happy feeling disappeared when he went back inside, the problems he had left behind came crashing back down.
Jean watched as her son did what he always did when he was really upset, it was a habit he had learned to do while in the orphanage from being picked on as a child.
H.G slowly raised his knees up to his chest before he placed his arms around them and placed his head into his curled up body. He tried hard to curl himself tighter into a ball, before he began to cry, it broke Jean's heart when she heard him sob. She slowly reached for her son and pulled him into a small hug, for a moment he tensed but slowly he leaned himself into his mother's embrace.
Jean's heart broke even more as she heard him sob out in pure bitterness and sadness.
"W-Why… Why now?... W-Why did they… C-Come find me now?…" was all the words Jean could hear coming from her son's mouths but after a while the words began to fade into just sobs.
Jean just held her son, and in truth it was the only thing she could do for him as she was not sure on how she could have answered his questions but oh who she wished she could...
-x-x-
It took a while for Jean to calm her son down after allowing him to sob nearly all of his anger, and sadness out in her arms. Jean wanted nothing more to do than track the Potters down and destroy them for hurting her son again, despite the fact she wasn't magical like they were.
Jean sighed before she petted her son's head softly that now rested on her shoulder his hands tightly latched on her shirt, this wasn't the first time he had cried himself to sleep on Jean and she somehow knew it wouldn't be the last by the way their future looked like it was heading to. Jean hummed lightly as she listened to H.G's soft breathing before he curled up somewhat closer to her, she smiled lightly at the small habit H.G hardly knew he had.
After a bit, Jean slowly removed herself from his grip and began to slowly place his head on a pillow from his bed before going to tuck him in like she used to do when he was a child. She smiled softly at her son and watched his sleeping form for a moment, she slowly went to leave the room but not before closing and locking his window, after all a mother needed to make sure the house was locked up for the safety of her children.
When she finally reached his door, she turned around and looked at her son in all but blood; Jean whispered a soft simple 'good night' before she left his room closing the door behind her as she headed for the staircase to see the rest of her family and guests.
As Jean walked down the staircase and into the hallway that lead to the living room, she stopped briefly when she heard her daughter and husband speaking to the two men in the kitchen off to the side of the hallway.
"Anyways, we tried everything we could to get Lily and James to spill where they put Har- uhh I mean, H.G for years, well everything that was legal to be honest." Sirius Black's voice said but it sounded a bit muffled, then he made a small 'omph' sound when Jean somehow knew Remus Lupin hit him upside the head and said "Sirius, close your mouth when you're eating. And don't talk like you didn't try to do anything illegal, do I need to remind you of the time I caught you almost slipping veritaserum into their drinks a few months after they gave up H.G? You're lucky I stopped you and reminded you that if you did that you'll instantly go to Azkaban for misusing the potion and abusing your position as an Auror."
Jean entered the kitchen at that point; she raised an eyebrow at Sirius who cringed in reminder of what he had almost done all those years ago, he had been desperate to find his first chosen godson during those beginning years especially around the first few months of Lily and James giving him up to a freaking orphanage, he hadn't care when they told him Harry or should he say H.G didn't have magic and would had fit in with Muggles better.
He knew what they said was a lie, Sirius had seen with his own eyes H.G preform magic as a baby, as a matter of fact he even knew that H.G showed his magic before Henry did by three whole weeks. So when James and Lily told him what they did and when they didn't listen to what Sirius told them, he had gone nearly insane trying to find his sweet little godson.
Sirius always felt strongly connected to both of his godchildren since the day they were born but it was mostly H.G that always caught Sirius eyes upon their birth, maybe it was because how small H.G was when he was born allowing Sirius and his grim form to know he was so small that he needed to be protected a bit more, maybe it was because H.G's first sentence, not word cause his godson was awesome, was "Pa-Foo uvos Oony!", or it could be because during the time when Lily and James fawned over Henry after that Halloween night it was H.G both him and Remus had grown to watch over, care, and love for before James and Lily had given him up. Sirius honestly didn't know he just knew he loved his godson Harry, now going by the name H.G, very much and it drove him nearly insane when he could not be there for him.
But, despite not being able to raise his godson himself Sirius was happy H.G had been taken in by such a loving family. Sirius was a bit envious however about how much H.G seemed to love his adopted family and to be honest it stung a little when for a moment it looked like his godson might not want a thing to do with him or Remus due to their connection to his birthparents but from what H.G's sister Hermione spoke about him, saying he normally likes to get to know people before he judges, the only ones that he didn't care to give that to was the Potters, they might have a small chance to get to know about his godson.
"So… Who is and what are you going to do about this ex-boyfriend?" Sirius asked to the head of the Granger household with a grin at the thought of pranking his godson's cheating Ex, he hadn't played a good prank on someone in a long while, other than James at the office, and that someone being a cheating boyfriend was a great target.
Jean shook her head when she saw his grin, just looking at him she could tell the Auror seemed to like pranks nearly as much as her son did, especially if the name 'Weasley Wizard Wheezes' products were involved. She then crossed her arms to her chest when she saw her husband grinning along with Mr. Black and before he could respond Jean spoke up "Nothing. You all will do nothing to that boy…"
Mark jumped at the sound of his wife's voice while Hermione snickered at her father, Sirius pouted and Remus just chuckled at his fiancé as he took a small drink of the cup of water he held in his hand.
"B-But Jean…" Mark began but was cut off by his wife.
"No Mark, I understand that you are mad at that boy that broke our Harrison's heart but as of right now we need to be concerned about something else other than pranking that idiot to near death…" she said sternly, in a way that said the matter of H.G's ex-boyfriend was now over. Mark pouted at the look his wife sent him, causing Hermione to once again snicker at her father who was acting like a four year old.
Jean shook her head and headed to get some pizza she had spotted on the kitchen table they were all surrounding, along with a few paper plates next to the box, she knew her daughter was staring at her with questions in her mind on how her brother was doing but Jean wanted to sit down before she told Hermione and her husband anything. When Jean got herself pizza and sat down she instantly knew the question what her daughter was going to ask.
"Mom, how's Harrison?" Hermione asked, biting her lip lightly as she casted a small look to the doorway that lead to the stairs, instantly knowing she was going to head up to check on him when he was ready to let her in.
"He's fine now, I found him on the roof again and he…" Jean stopped and cast a small look at the other two men in the kitchen before continuing, knowing what she would say next would only make sense to her family "He went back into that old habit of his when he was inside, he also tired himself out and fell asleep, should wake up in an hour or two…"
Hermione's lips pushed themselves into a thin line with concern as she casted more looks to the doorway while Mark frowned in anger, not at his son no at the Potters for causing his son to fall into an old habit H.G hadn't done in years.
"Old habit?" Remus asked, confused and concerned while Sirius frowned lightly and looked around at the Grangers faces wondering what they meant. The Grangers looked at each other for a moment, unsure if they wanted people outside of their family to know about H.G's habit of curling into a ball when he was super upset.
Jean coughed lightly and said with a small wave of her hand "Just an old habit he picked up years ago, nothing to be concerned with…"
It was a family matter after all so it would be best to keep it that way even if it was just for a little bit longer.
"Err… Yes, umm Mr. Lupin? Do you think you can explain to me the courses and lessons my brother and I will be taking during our time at Hogwarts?" Hermione asked after a few seconds of silence and concerned looks Sirius and Remus had given each other in respond to her mother's answer, hoping it would take their minds off it even for a bit.
-x-x-
H.G awoke to find his room dark, from both no light on and the sun no longer in the sky.
"AW FUCK!" H.G swore when he felt his eyes suddenly sting like he had splashed hot boiling water along with salt on them, he quickly turned to his side that he didn't realize he was near the edge of it and falling out onto the floor in his small outburst of pain and raised his hands to shut eyes and rub the stinging away.
Below, sounds of chairs scrapping across the floor and thundering footsteps could be heard as the family downstairs had heard H.G's outburst and fall from above. He didn't have enough time to tell those coming upstairs not to worry or panic because the door to his room burst open. Sirius the Auror, if what H.G remember correctly was the first to come in when he had opened his eyes slightly before he forced them closed again, his wand in his hand and was pointing straight out ready to attack anything in the room that posed a threat.
Instead of finding someone to attack all Sirius found was H.G on the floor, rolling a bit to his side with his hands on his face. Sirius raised an eyebrow before he was pushed out of the way by Hermione who had forced her way from the back of the group to see her brother.
Hermione looked around quickly before her eyes met with her brother's body on the floor, she dashed into the room and fell to his side, Hermione put her hands on his chest and forearm as if trying to find a wound or something on him while asking if he was okay.
"I'm okay! I'm okay! S-Shit, shit! I just forgot to pull out my contacts before I fell asleep, fuck it stings like hell!" was H.G's answer when he realized his sister was next to him and asking him questions if he was hurt. His eyes were hurting from more than just him falling asleep with them on but he had also had them on when he had cried earlier. Hermione's eyebrows rose and she stared at H.G in surprise while her mind tried to process what was said.
Hermione shook her head and chuckled mostly to herself, only her brother would be cause so much panic over his contacts stinging his eyes. She carefully placed her hands on him and helped him up along with herself so they could go to his bathroom to take care of the problem.
"Come on, let's go get them out before they infect your eyes and make them worse than before. Also watch your language." She said as she led him to his bathroom, careful not to bump him into the walls or anything along the way their parents following silently while shaking their heads bemused at their son. Jean soon joined her children in the bathroom when Hermione had left H.G side momentarily to put the toilet seat lid down so her brother could sit on it.
Mark watched as his wife and daughter fussed over his son, noticing out of the corner of his eye that Sirius and Remus were watching a bit confused but curious at what they were doing to H.G.
"Hermione, get Harrison's contact case and eye drops please for me sweetheart? Now Harrison, I'm going to open your eyes to take your contacts out, just lean back and try not to move okay dear. Hermione when I take one out please put an eye drop in his eye please." Jean said as she cupped her son's face and moved some of his hair out of the way, Hermione did what she was told, finding his contact case in the mirror along with the eye drops opening them both up quickly while H.G nodded his eyes still shut tight while he fought back the want to pull away from his mother and rub his eyes so badly.
Sirius and Remus watched from outside of the somewhat small bathroom with Mark who had folded his arms and lend against the doorway frame, they were concerned and a bit confused as they saw Jean place two fingers, her thumb and index finger, at H.G's right eye one below and above an eyelid. They watched as Jean forced the eyelids apart, opening H.G's eye that was red from irritation, crying, and rubbing. Jean used her other hand to move as close to his eye as possible without poking him and carefully but quickly took hold of the thin layer on top of his eyes. She pulled back, taking the contact with her and removed her fingers off of him, H.G's eye closed shut again as he went to rub that side of his eye in an attempt to sooth the slowly fading pain from it but was forced to stop when Hermione used one her hands to open his eye and used the other to put the eye drop bottle close to his eye, squeezing just hard enough to let a single drop out.
She fiddled with the contact on top of her finger, setting it to the right way it was to rest and dropped it in the right side of the contact case. H.G on the other hand gave a shaky breath once the pain started to go into a dull ache.
"They're called contact lens and eye drops." Mark said when he noticed the two magical raised adults seemed very confused and concerned at what his wife was doing to their son, Remus and Sirius blinked at Mark not understanding what he meant.
"They are like glasses but the lens are thin enough and created to set on top someone's eyes. My son got those contacts two or three years ago because he likes to play soccer and sometimes other sports that make it hard for him if he was to wear glasses. But he has to take them off before he goes to bed because they are not built to be used in sleep, it'll either damage his eyes more than they are now or at the very least cause some large discomfort for his eyes for a few hours or for a few days. Eye drops are used to help sooth eyes from when they are dry or over used." Mark explained a bit of what he knew about contacts to them, watching out of the corner of his eyes as his wife took out the other contact from H.G's aching eye and once it was out he went to rub it like he had done with his right eye and once again was made to stop as Hermione went to use the eye drops on his other eye.
"Oh, so that's why he wasn't wearing glasses, I thought he got very lucky and didn't suffer from the infamous Potter curse." Sirius said but cringed when he realized what he said, not remembering for a moment that most the people in the room didn't like the Potters. He hoped that what he said wouldn't cause the Grangers to start disliking him, he really would love to get to know his other godson better.
"Potter curse?" H.G couldn't help but ask, it was the first time he had ever said the name Potter without spitting it out with hiss to it. He sent a look to Hermione, well to the blur of brown hair he knew was his sister, who had raised an eyebrow in question, after all it was the first time the two magical teenagers ever heard of a 'Potter curse'. Even though the Potter's weren't as worshiped as they are in Europe, they were still well known in the States mostly because of their son being the first and so far only person to ever survive the Killing Curse.
"Errr… Yeah, it's a common fact around old magical families that Potters seem to have bad eyesight, wild messy black hair though yours seem tamer, a love for smart women, and an amazing talent at being Aurors, it's mostly just a joke in the family to be honest…" Sirius explained, unsure of what to say after that.
H.G and Hermione raised an eyebrow at that, it really didn't sound like what he liked at all. Sure H.G had bad eyesight, he was still debating on getting an eye correction potion due to the fact he wasn't of age yet and some minor problems with the chance of the potion turning his eyes to reptile eyes as a side effect for a few months, he didn't like girls in a romantic way at all or had any thoughts of becoming an Auror in all honestly, in fact DADA was one of his lowest grade to have, it was either an Exceeds Expectations or Acceptable the last time he checked it has been a while. In all honestly Harry wasn't even aiming to become an Auror, he was on his way to become a Potions Master.
"I see…" H.G said unsure of all of that, it sounded more like a weird family coincidence. H.G shrugged lightly before his mother came back into the bathroom, she had walked out around the time they were talking about the Potter Curse, with his rarely used glasses nothing fancy just some nice black rectangle glasses that weren't too big or too small for his face a lot better than the old round ones he kept from his childhood.
Jean placed them on her son's face, knowing he couldn't see well without them. H.G blinked his eyes once they were on and his sight tried to rearrange for a few seconds, shaking his head at the sudden change again he knew he would need headache medicine on hand if his brain didn't like the quick change but he ignored the pain for now.
H.G smiled when his vision finally worked again, well as best as it could with all the pain it suffered from, and he looked around his bathroom, taking quick notice that his sister was by his side, his mother was near the sink now, and his father, Remus, and Sirius were near the doorway of the bathroom, giving a sigh as he raised his hand to his head and ran his fingers in his hair. He know his eyes were red from all irritation that happened and he made a mental note to put his eye drops in, but for now he wanted to be left alone to think.
Hermione noticed the look on his face instantly and knew what her brother needed, after all she learned how to read her brother like a book, and began to shoo everyone out as politely as she could. "Come on everyone let's give Harrison some time to breathe, I'll stay with him if he needs help."
Their parents gave a chuckle, also knowing there was only one person Hermione would ever be rude for it was her baby brother, and Remus and Sirius seemed to give her an amused look but they all agreed to allow H.G time with his sister. Once everyone was out and the door closed both Hermione and H.G gave a small sigh of relief, H.G rose from his spot in the bathroom and went back into his room, with Hermione sitting down in his computer chair.
The two didn't say any words, both were silent and in a way processing everything that had happened within twenty-four hours, with not much else to do Hermione reached over to one of H.G books that laid resting on his desk and began to somewhat read a random page, she knew her brother needed a moment to think over things and knew that if she left him he would just go look for her in order to talk about it.
"Mione tell what just happened in our lives?" H.G asked, wondering if perhaps he was crazy and all of this was an insane dream.
Hermione sighed lightly and closed the book with a small snap and said without missing a beat "Well… Your boyfriend of two years cheated on you, we just got home after the last day of school, we have meet Albus Dumbledore who told us we'd have to move in a few days and transfer to Hogwarts for the next year, we have a Hogwarts teacher named Remus Lupin here to test us for placement and his Auror fiancé Sirius Black is here as protection whom is also your godfather, discovered a madman and his followers from England is for some unknown reason after you, and… Your birth parents seem to think you'd welcome into your life with open arms after like fourteen years of absence and gave a pitiful reason as to why they gave you up."
"Fucking great…" H.G said with a small hint of sarcasm in his voice as he thought over her words, with a sigh H.G walked over to his bed and said as he flopped down on it "So we have to move to England all because of a fucking psychopath is out for my blood and my birth parents are idiots. Can this day get any fucking worse Monie?"
Hermione looked over to her brother, gave him another sigh and said tiredly "You shouldn't had said that Harrison now with your luck it's going to get worse… Murphy's Law my dear brother. Also watch your language."
Hermione's lips twitched upwards as she heard her brother groan in annoyance as he took hold of his pillow and covered his head in it.
And done with that quick chapter, I wonder how long it took –looks at last update for story- ! 2012! FIVE YEARS WHAT, HOW!?
My gosh I am so, so sorry this chapter took so long, I honestly never meant to take such a long break everyone, I really didn't. But I guess life took over and I just didn't have time to write and add writers block. I am so sorry.
However it doesn't seem like I've been writing more, not at a good speed mind you but I have been writing, but I noticed I've been writing again.
I will try not to take five years for the next chapter, promise.
