The door wasn't opened horribly loud, nor was it very aggressive.

Light's eyes had already peeled away from where Ryuk had been, not caring when the cursed creature left. In his sickened daze and anger he'd forgotten the cameras new presence, the thing that truly surprised him was that L, only L sat on his bed. That was when it occurred to him it was likely had been no sound, all the man knew he was talking to himself and he knew nothing of the shinigami that plagued this realm and the majority, their own realm.

In a slow movement the eraser was further hidden from L's sight, hoping the object hadn't been noticed in the footage being so small and pale.

"Raito-kun-", he looked up from the sheets that had been his focus during his thoughts, "for now I've turned off the cameras. This isn't going to be included in the case, even if you confess." His eyes flickered across Light's shaking frame, "your mental state being unclear it couldn't be considered-"

There was the flicker of a smile which Light had never seen, yet at the same time he'd never seen such an honest smile since he was a child. But he couldn't, he could never let himself be considered weak. "I'm fine Ryuzaki."

L looked to the corner with a sense of curiosity, mapping it out, before looking back to Light suspiciously.

"There's nothing there to speak to."

"Do you always to need to speak to something?" Ryuzaki let the back of his cold fingers brush Light's forehead before touching his lips to his forehead gently, "why not tell the truth so I can determine if you require a doctor."

Realizing the man was attempting to take his temperature in a method he'd only read about he allowed the action, "Fine, I was talking to a magical being in the corner." Light muttered before rolling his eyes, allowing his voice to sound nearly cynical to avoid the misinterpretation of the sarcasm, it didn't work. "What kind?" Light let the words roll off his tongue smoothly, so softly, "shinigami."

What he hadn't expected was L's vacant expression to turn into surprise, fear even, it was his turn to worry slightly. "Ryuzaki?" L shook off the feeling momentarily consciously noting the years in which Beyond had spoken of shinigami. "What did its eyes look like?"

Light was struck with more curiosity than had previously eluded him, "rings of red… very peculiar.

" It was in this moment that L had tackled young Light-kun, it was quick, it was bitter. Shocked by the sudden movement Light had kneed L fiercely in his chest, afterwards shivering and unmoving and ignored as L felt over his cheek bones, and fought strongly against the urge to fight him as he looked over Light's teeth. L sighed with honest relief and drew away from the trembling body.

Alone. It was cold. It was dark.

Light curled into himself as he cursed L under his breath, as quickly as L had fled the room Light fell into a deep fitful sleep.

Light eyed his watch, keeping the eraser out of view when he slipped it yes, inside the compartment of his watch, he need it to stay near him. A dull electric light was wandering in from under the door, it being the only light since his current room lacked any windows at all.

Allowing his toes to brush the bottoms of the carpet floor he headed to his bathroom to shower off his tired body. When he entered the main room Matsuda was the first one to vocally express his concern, "Light are you okay?"

"Yes, it's not like you couldn't check over the monitor," he scoffed conversationally dismissing any hostility that might have lurked into his words.

"The monitors have been off since L went to see you, we can't bring them back up…"

He stumbled toward the couple blank screens that generally represented his room his fingers darting over the keys, "you only need Ryuzaki's password…"

"He still hasn't come back since last night." Matsuda scratched the back of his head, "when we checked on you were asleep so we left you figuring we could ask in the morning…" Matsuda's furrowing eyebrows furrowed further betraying his attempt to stay stoic, "you don't know?"

"I joked about seeing a shinigami and that seemed to freak him out." The young man's eyebrow shot up at the statement, but his gaze shifted from Light. It was hours of the same combing through information, all the while Light thought of ways he could for a while to get to the location, it'd be much easier without L or it seemed Watari amongst the group.

However his thought was interrupted by a certain L entering the room followed by what seemed to be, another L, only bound and finally Watari. The bound L hastily approached Light before scoffing at him, his bound hand running uncomfortably along the rim of his jaw. "You don't have the eyes do you, Light?"

Mentally cursing himself he met Beyond's red eyes, no one in their right mind would make that deal. "You traded-"

Beyond put a finger over his lips, "I did not, like you."

He blinked "you can see the eyes."

Beyond took a deep, calming breath for the both of them while the other inhabitants of the room watched them cautiously. Light's father was the first to speak, "What the hell is going on Ryuzaki!?" L gave him a wide eyed look before stepping further into the room, "either they happen to both be crazy or- we happen to have the missing link to the case."

The members of the room eyed the two young boys before looking to L wide eyed," Light's not, you've seen he's not-"

"Ryuzaki my boy isn't the killer," " I know. He isn't at least not at the moment." Beyond laughed genuinely at their struggles before his teeth caught on Light's shirt as he pulled him into Light's own room. At first Light had allowed it due to curiosity but with the locking of his door he knew, now he had no choice but to talk with Beyond while of course he felt the occasional vibrations of yelling and decision making going on outside.

It might of even been his dad who locked the door, with hope of protecting him from the argument. Baffled eyes now met the figure comfortably lying on his bed, he noticed his bindings had been severed, they probably were before he even got into the room. Light enjoying the taste of silence began pondering if L's strange treatment yesterday was to determine if he was in fact the person who now sat in his bed, who while looking a lot like L, was not a twin, thpugh there was no way that much similarity was random, the man might be an especially good impersonator. "What should I call you?"

He watched at the man pondered the question, "Beyond Birthday, Beyond, BB, B. All are fine." Light sat on the furthest edge of the bed, "so how did you get the eyes?" "I was born with them, a shinigami I met while trapped said it was because they were dropped in this realm, a lot like the note you found and well your gift." "How did you-?"

Beyond smile was wide and somehow terribly cold, "Ryuk."

He laughed gently before settling completely back down, watching Light's later movements. "Your name looks a little different as well, without him I would never have guessed what that meant without him." The man's attention now fell onto the lonely scythe on the wall, Light eyes following as he attempted to pick up and laughed as it passed through fingers, "do you ever use your gift?"

Light shuddered and let his hand pass through the lamp on the table, he hated the feeling. Beyond smiled "you have so much more control…."

Light gave the lightest look pity, the eyes could become detrimental to those that used them… endlessly aware of the names, of the times of any one you'd ever known death. Beyond licked his lips appreciatively, crawling a little closer to light.

Eying the boys gentle features before looking around, "may I use your shower?"

Light nodded as Beyond moved towards the closed door. Light hadn't meant to fall asleep but the lack of food and fitful nights had left him tired, though even more so he hadn't expected the situation he awoke to, at first he'd been surprised to find that he'd slept peacefully but now the reason was all the more confusing. Beyond's pale body was curled up to his own, his warm arm around Light's thin frame.

His stirring resulted in the flickering of Beyond's lashes as languid red eyes met Light's. Beyond only curled closer, the hand that had rested placidly near Light's back curled into his hair in some sort of tired and calming response.

He allowed the petting and even smiled as Beyond made half asleep murmurs about the softness of Light's hair. He pulled the blanket over them and returned Beyond's sleeping embrace before letting his mind wander into a once more peaceful sleep.

The next morning was quiet, until the door was burst open by an excited Matsuda who awoke a now blushing Light, and gawked at the scene before him. Before any question could even be muttered Light disappeared and now, this was a much more concerning matter for the young Matsuda, who had been denying that Light had done so before as it had been mere moments or at the turning of a corner or ledge.

Now Beyond could see and hear the frantic Light, who now was crying in loud weeps and whispers.

"Light."

Light groaned the only clear words, "not again-"

" I don't want to disappear-"

Not caring if he looked any less sane hugging the empty space, as his own arms fell through Light but he kept them near where he could see the boy to be, "You're not going to disappear."

"I'm stuck like before-"

"No you're fine."

"No-"

"Yes." It was soft, gentle, barely a volume to be heard yet still loud to know it was there.

Light inhaled deeply, reappearing in front of Matsuda, who surprisingly had closed the door behind himself. As not to betray his dog-like nature he wrapped his arms tightly around Light-kun who smiled into the embrace, enjoying the happy mutterings before Matsuda was overtaken by the blush of Beyond's current state, of well clothing. "Did you-" Light shook his head aggressively as Matsuda blushed further, "I was gonna say we've decided that you're most likely, not Kira."

"Most likely."

"Ryuzaki wouldn't completely dismiss the idea…" Light groaned lightly, before getting up half-hazardly and stretching out his arms and tossing Beyond a pair of his pajamas, as the man was slightly taller than him, his own day clothes wouldn't fit the man well enough.

Beyond unabashedly began to change and Matsuda began to leave the room as Light grabbed his own clothes and headed to the bathroom but not before catching a few good glimpses of Beyond's pale skin.

Light entered the main room with Beyond shockingly close, usually he'd be angered by such behavior but now, it seemed calming. Even as he sat in front of his usual computer he didn't mind the gentle touch of his shoulder as Beyond sat down next to him.

L looked to the two young men, "I'd like to compose a summary of what you know of these beings, and what surrounds them." Beyond piqued up first, "the eyes mean if you see someone's face you know their name." L nodded, "that seems to be enough to kill from our observations…"

This time Light made himself heard feeling a little more comfortable talking to L with his look alike present, "with an object called a death note, I believe that there are two in possession of Kira and his group." Realizing L lacked knowledge of the object in question he elaborated, " with a death note all you have to do is write their name, how you want to die and when." "The beings called shinigami are lazy and likely aren't going to be much of a problem."

L nodded, is there anything else?" Light nodded, "Kira is a man named Maurice Richard."

Matsuda stole into the conversation, "you knew who Kira was the whole time?"

"I haven't been able to locate him…" Teeth almost unnoticeably clenched L started rapidly typing on the innocent keyboard, Light now turned to his father, "that message was threatening our family." Mr. Yagami shook his head aggressively before leaving the room, eyes dark, ile still lingering in the doorway his eyes fell back on Light, "you can't go meet him, it's too dangerous."
