Lakeside Adventure 4

What are we doing?

"So I take it that you aren't exactly thrilled to be on this trip." Kurosaki Karin asked the sulking boy next to her as the vehicle started up.

"No, no I am not." Hitugaya Toshiro replied, arms crossed over his chest as he sunk lower into his seat. He looked around the vehicle, making sure to note where the doors were. He was apparently in the far back of the vehicle. To his left was one Kurosaki Karin and to his right, one Ichimaru Gin. Next to the man was Toshiro's lieutenant. In front of them was a row of three seats with Kurotsuchi fuku-taicho, Yachiru, and Kurosaki's other sister, Yuzu occupying it. In front of them was one of the thirteenth division's third seats, Kotetsu Kiyone, Ukitake, and Kuchiki Rukia. In front of them was yet another row with Urahara, Shihoin Yoruichi and Soi fon. He could just barely make out Kurosaki Ichigo in the driver's seat and Inoue as his co-pilot. Toshiro let out a heavy sigh.

"Where the hell are we going anyway?" he asked, looking up at the cieling.

"Some lakeside resort or something. I heard that it's apparently a western styled one with cabins and stuff." Karin replied, browsing through her phone.

"How long are we staying?" Toshiro inquired further.

"Don't know how long you're staying, but we're staying until next next Sunday." Karin replied, starting to dig in the bag by her feet. Toshiro remained silent for a minute, just listening to the chatter in the vehicle. It seemed like everyone was talking. He turned his head to the left and looked out the window past Karin. It looked like they were just leaving Karakura Town.

"Do you know how long this drive will be?" he asked. Karin sat back in here seat, apparently finding what she had been looking for.

"No, but I can ask." she told him. She took in a dep breath of air and hollered, "Ichi-nii! When are we gonna get there?!"

"It's a four hour drive, Kairn!" Ichigo shouted back.

"Do you two have to yell?!" Toshiro hollered. Everyone went silent. Toshiro started to blush a little. "What?" he asked.

"Still have that temper on you I see, Hitsugaya-taicho." Urahara remarked from the front, turning around to look at the boy-genius.

"Why are we driving there when we could just get out of the Senkaimon at the destination?" Toshiro asked the man, scowling. Urahara turned back around to face forward again.

"Well, wouldn't you find it odd for a bunch of your renters to appear out of nowhere?" he replied.

"You didn't rent the entire place?" Soi fon asked in disbelief.

"No, no, no." Urahara said, waving his fan. "We did indeed rent the entire place, but the owners will be there for our check-in. After all, it's not often that someone rents out an entire resort for a family reunion." he explained.

"Yay! Resort, resort, resort!" Yachiru chanted.

"You have got to be kidding me. You told the people running the resort that it's a family reunion?!" Soi fon sighed, rubbing at her eyes with one hand.

"What is a family reunion?" Rukia asked.

"According to my data, a family reunion is where those of blood relation gather at one location to communicate reminscence with one another about past events." Nemu stated, her mono-tone voice startling Yuzu slightly.

"No, no, Nemu-san! A family reunion is much more than that!" Orihime yelled, turning her upper body so she could look back on Nemu. "A family reunion is where more than just blood relation get together, it's where anyone you consider family get together and-"

"Oh my god..." Toshiro muttered as he let his head fall back against the seat again as Inoue prattled on about what a family reunion really was. After a rather long explanation, everyone in the van starting chatting again. From what he could hear, Yuzu and Yachiru were talking about playing in the water and shell collecting. The three thirteenth division members were discussing the heat and Soi fon was raving about some kind of technique to Shihoin.

Toshiro's head lolled to the right and he looked to the exit of the back area where everyone was sitting. He also noticed that the third division captain seemed to be staring at him.

"Do you need something, Ichimaru?" Toshiro growled at the man. Ichimaru's grin only seemed to widen at this.

"Just keeping an eye on ya is all." Gin remarked.

"It's not like I am going anywhere." the boy said, eyes briefly glancing back to the door.

"I wouldn't put it past you to though." Gin moved to block Toshiro's sight of the door. Toshiro let out a small huff before straightnening his head and looking back up to the cieling of the vehicle.

'Why is he so viligent of where I am and what I am doing all of a sudden?' the child captain wondered, closing his eyes. 'If I am being forced to go on this vacation, I might as well try and get a nap in before all of the chaos starts...'

"Um... Toshiro-kun?" he heard someone call.

"It's Hitsug-" he started, only to stop himself as he opened an eye to see who was addressing him. It was the light-haired Kurosaki sibling, Yuzu if he remembered correctly. She had turned around in her seat in front of Ichimaru and was facing Toshiro.

"Did you need something, Kurosaki-san?" he asked, opening both eyes so he could speak to her properly. The girl let out a giggle.

"You can call me Yuzu, Toshiro-kun. There are three of us in the vehicle. Besides, we're the same age. There's no need to be so formal." Yuzu told him.

"O-okay, Yu-... Yu-... Yuzu-chan." he stammered out, blushing slightly. He heard the dark haired twin next to him let out a chuckle along with Ichimaru.

"Gin..." Matsumoto warned, elbowing the man in the side.

"Sorry, sorry. It's just kind of funny how he has a hard time being so informal." Ichimaru chuckled. Toshiro crossed his arms over his chest as he glared at the man.

"My Granny taught me to respect people, an aspect you seem to be lacking." he spat at the man. Ichimaru seemed to wince slightly and backed off.

"Well... I was just wondering, won't you get hot wearing that?" Yuzu smiled, pointing at Toshiro's clothes. Toshiro looked down at what he was wearing. It was nothing out of the ordinary, just his usual white pants and black polo with brown loafers.

"Uh, I don't know. I don't think so. Why?" Toshiro asked, looking up at the girl with an eyebrow raised.

"It's just that black tends to attract the sun and make you hotter. Plus your're wearing long pants which look like they're made of some kind of heavy material, causing you to sweat more." she pointed out. Toshiro stared at the girl, mouth slightly parted and speechless.

'I didn't know that there was more to getting warm than just being outside in direct sunlight and layers.' Toshiro thought to himsef.

"Don't worry, Yuzu-chan. Toshiro has more appropriate clothing packed." Matsumoto assured the girl. Her worries put at ease, she smiled at the woman before sitting down again. Toshiro turned to look at his lieutenant.

"You of all people should know full well that it's-" Toshiro began, only for Ichimaru to clap a hand over his mouth. Toshiro brought his hands up to the one at his mouth and tried to remove the hand from his face as he glared at the offending appendage.

"I take it that the little missies don't know about Soul Society. Maybe we should keep it that way, hm?" Gin suggested, leaning down and getting rather uncomfortabley close to the small boy's face. Toshiro leaned away from the man, continuing to try and tear Gin's hand off of his face. Gin's grin suddenly faltered and he quickly pulled his hand away from the boy and stared at his palm. While the man stared at his hand, Toshiro took a deep breath of air.

"You seriously licked my hand." Ichimaru stated dumbfoundedly, eyes slightly showing as he gazed at the boy and wiped his hand off on his light purple shorts.

"Gin, I told you not to bother him." Matsumoto chastised, turning Ichimaru to face her.

"Here, Toshiro." Karin handed him a water bottle before leaning up against the window and staring between Toshiro and Ichimaru again. Toshiro gratefully took the water bottle and swished some water around in his mouth.

"He licked my hand." Gin stated, turning back to the small capain in beside him.

"He did what?!" Rangiku peered around Gin to stare at her captain.

"I couldn't pry his hand off, so what did you expect me to do? Just let him cover my mouth for no reason?" Toshiro questioned, capping the water bottle in his hands.

"There's nothing wrong with licking people! I lick people all the time." Yachiru suddenly pipped up, standing on her seat to talk the people behiind her.

"Yachiru-chan, that's dangerous. You should really sit down." Yuzu told the young girl, trying to get her to sit. Yachiru giggled and jumped over the seat, landing in Toshiro's lap.

"What's going on back there?!" Ichigo hollered, seeing commmotion in the rearview mirror.

"Hiya Snowey!" Yachiru exclaimed, patting the white-haired boy on the head. Toshiro only stared at her with a look of disbelief written across his face.

"Yachiru-chan!" Yuzu exclaimed, un-buckling herself to peer over at the girl better. Yachiru let out another giggle before jumping into Karin's lap and then launching herself over nemu and landing in Kotetsu Kiyone's lap. Said girl let out a startled shriek, before Yachiru launched herself again, this time landing on Soi fon's head.

"Yachiru!" the second division captain yelled, attepting to grab the girl. The lieutenant of the eleventh division quickly evaded and continued to leap from person to person throughout the vehicle. The vehicle suddenly took a sharp turn and pulled to an abrupt stop.

"I cannot drive with people jumping around the vehicle!" Ichigo yelled, he himself turning around to look at the commotion. The sudden stop caused the ruckus to end however. What Ichigo saw was people drapped across seats and others buckled in like they were suppose to be.

"Why the hell did I accept this job." Ichigo grumbled, scratching the back of his head as people began to seat themselves again.

A/N: So...how was it? Did I do an okay job of keeping people in character? I'm not used to writing some of these people, and I want to make sure I do it right. So, thoughts?
